  1. Hi, they call me Ronald Poe and I hope you guys are having a great day. Here are two original trance pieces I wrote recently. Tell me what you guys think and how I can improve them. They're both character tributes meant to evoke their respective character. I'm probably not good enough to pull either theme off but here goes. First is a fan-made Palace/character theme for Makoto Niijima (Persona 5). I went for a somewhat elegant yet rebellious trance piece. I know she's a popular character so there's a bit of pressure. It's done in my signature style. https://soundcloud.com/dark-ronald-poe/honor-student-demo1 Second is a Dark Psytrance (or at least my interpretation of it) tribute to Venom (the Spiderman villain). This is my first attempt at Dark Psytrance and I felt the style might fit Venom well. It's a little more melodic than most Dark Psytrance but who cares about that. I personally think Venom would make a great bonus boss for Kingdom Hearts 3 but ...
  2. This is a remix of "Cave 2" (Might and Magic 5: Dark side of Xeen). I originally did a similar mix for PRC. I switched the cowbells for bongos and added an Indian Raga drone in the background. I work hard on my remixes and like to make soundscapes with emphasis on melody, weird extra percussion, looping repetition, and slightly abrupt endings. Tell me what you guys think and how it can be improved. I may also put another mix on here later. Piece being remixed (for reference) Enjoy
  3. Hello, I'm Ronald Poe. I'm an electronic musician (although I also play bass and guitar) with an eccentric style and loads of passion. I've got a few years of experience and was runner up in the 2016 RPG contest a while ago. I came here primarily to get advice on my music (specifically my original work) and was wondering about ways to improve. By the way, the looping repetition and somewhat abrupt ending are part of my style. Anyway, here's some original pieces I did fairly recently. First is "Crazy 8's (Demo 1)". It's a tribute to a Scott Pilgrim fan-character. I've tried to evoke the character but you could just read the description. It's both a stage theme and a boss theme to an extent. I just uploaded it today and made it Tuesday. Second is "Cable Town". Cable Town is the name for a speculated level for Kingdom Hearts 3 but might've just been the new design for Twilight Town or a cut level. When I make Kingdom Hearts tributes I almost don't bother copying Yoko Shimomura (I'm not good enough for that anyway) so I do them my way with some influence. Third is "Skuld Theme (Demo)". Skuld is a character from Kingdom Hearts Chi but I'll probably never play that game. She doesn't have a character theme yet so I wrote one myself based on initial impressions and a little imagination. I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan if you can't tell. Tell me what you guys think and have a nice day, please.
  4. I wanted to ask for an opinion on a couple of my original pieces. They're Kingdom Hearts based but are more in my own style than Yoko's. Advice for improvement/constructive criticism is highly appreciated (just try to be nice). Here's an attempt at RPG music I did this weekend. It's a theme for both Marluxia (Kingdom Hearts COM) and to a lesser extent, General Grievous (Star Wars). I usually make my own motifs when writing music but I occasionally use bits of existing motifs (depending on the character). Tell me what you think (I've gotten a little less repetitive over time). Here's a boss theme for Maleficent and Pete in KH3. Enjoy!
  5. After I got second place in that RPG project, I did some thinking. Why can't I host a remix contest? The idea is that each member chooses a video game piece they like and create a RPG field/town theme out of it. It can be anything from an RPG boss theme like "One Winged Angel" to "Gourmet Race" (Kirby)". However it can't already be a town or field theme. Round one will be a remix of the chosen theme and Round 2 will mix that theme with an original composition/beat I will provide. Message me if you want to participate. I'm sure this will be a lot of fun. The summery will provide most of the rules but if anyone would help me with them, it'd be appreciated. I'll judge the field themes myself but would prefer a second judge. Have a good day.
  6. I just wrote an original character theme for Axel/Lea. I went for a theme fit for a fiery anithero like Axel. I didn't really use anything from "The 13th Struggle" or "At Dusk I will think of You". Hope you enjoy it and please give a critique (I'd like to know how I can improve on it). Inspired by this thread
  7. Okay despite the name,"Dream Del Male", this isn't a remix of "Forze Del Male" (Kingdom Hearts) but "Elm Street" (Nightmare On Elm Street NES). I mixed the original's melody with some of my own music to create a theme that would fit both Ansem and Freddy Krueger. I have a bizarre style of electronic music (I use midi and FL Studio with samples and a KH soundfont) and I don't know much at all about mixing. Please give me your feedback and some advice. Original theme being remixed.
  8. This is my unique DnB remix of "Newbark Town" (Pokemon Gold and Silver) mixed with my own music. It's also my first DnB tune/remix (it's probably and despite it not being OCRemix quality, I think it sounds cool. The name comes from a Pokemon fanfic. I used a mixture of Musescore, FL Studio, and Audacity. I know I have a unique and strange style but ... https://soundcloud.com/dark-ronald-poe/drum-and-elm-newbark-town-remix Tell me what you guys think. Please give constructive criticism (don't be too harsh) and polite advice on how I can improve. Also this is a work in Progress but I'm probably not going back to this piece.
  9. They call me Ronald Poe. I'm a bassist, guitarist, and Electronic Musician (I use FL Studio and Audacity). I'm a fan of Metal Gear Solid, Pokemon, Shin Magami Tensei (particularly Persona 3 and 4), and especially Kingdom Hearts. I was also a regular at the "Musicians Talk" section on Ultimate Guitar and possibly the most polarizing member there. I also use Musescore for the notation process and use multiple soundfonts (mostly the KH one) and samples with FL Studio. I have a unique style. Anyway I have two questions. First what are some VG pieces with simple, easy, and somewhat repetitive melodies. I'm trying to write better remixes (my first 3 were denied) and want to try something simple. Second, what are some basics of DnB music and remixing. I've researched it quite a bit and still don't get it. I want to do a remix in DnB style but I'm not sure where to start. I've got some decent drum samples. Sorry about how personal this post was (I'm trying to make a better impression here). My questions are easy VG pieces with simple melody and basics of DnB.
