The People's Remix Competition 234

PRCv9-26

Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

This PRC is (like every 26th PRC) an anniversary edition, the ninth in the PRC history. The same rules apply as last year.

Free Round

All songs are allowed as source this PRC, except songs which has an OC Remix, and songs which has been covered on PRC before. You are allowed to remix more than one source, but please mention which song's you remixed.

An overview of songs remixed in the past PRC's can be found in the links below:

The deadline is not the second Monday after the announcement as usual, but it is Friday the 28th of December (to not have a deadline at Christmas Eve and give you a few days after Christmas to finish). Voting will end on Sunday December 30th.

Everyone is allowed to enter, including last rounds winner (which is not decided yet).

ThaSauce link: Click here to submit.

The URL is not up yet, but this will happen after the end of the voting stage of PRC233 to not confuse the Compo ThaSauce system. You can start working on the song already, but uploading is only possible after this Wednesday.

GOOD LUCK!

PRC instructions

  1. Limitations at ThaSauce require your entry to be 6 MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed (only as Bonus Mixes).
  2. Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by FRIDAY DECEMBER 28th at 10:59 am ThaSauce time: check my signature (below) or the ThaSauce page for the exact time left.
  3. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix. You can post it in the thread if that doesn't work.
  4. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted.
  5. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score.

Finally decided on a project to do for this, uncharacteristically using only one source (for now). Spent a good chunk of yesterday hunting for free VSTs and soundfonts for Chinese instruments. Anyone have any suggestions for a Chinese (or at least Asian) bass instument? Everything I've been able to find, even just to learn about, let alone find sounds for, is in the tenor-and-up range, except percussion.

ok so is a midi rip using a midi of the original source tune as the starting point to start a mix? also , where do you find out what songs have been mixed on prc? either way, these compos seem like a fun way to get more involved and start making full mixes that are more than just 16 bar loops, which is where im stuck at currenty :)

Using a MIDI as a starting point is fine. (It's actually a requirement for source tunes in regular rounds that the chooser provides a MIDI). Just personalize it in the process so it's not just instruments changed + drumloop added. :) I can attest that taking part in compos such as this is a great way to improve your music and get stuff done (or at least started). Good luck!

It's results time.

Total number of mixes - 5

Total number of votes - 6

Maximum Score - 18.

Yami gets the last place wooden spoon with 4 points.

Evktalo and MindWanderer tied with 5 points and third place.

Desolation Sound was close, but 15 points is just not enough to win, receiving the second place.

And the winner of PRC234 is Garpocalypse with 9 points.

Congratulations Garpocalypse, you are the winner. You may select the source for PRC235. That round will be a double source PRC. Send your source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix).

You may select any source from any game, as long as it doesn't have an Overclocked Remix and it hasn't been on PRC before. Check it at the list:

http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc

http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above).

Send your source as fast as you can, but before next Tuesday, 2 janauary 2013.

You can find the votes with comments here:
