MISSION STATEMENT

The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

MnP Instructions/Guidelines

1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted.

2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell.

3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met.

4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max).

5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.

6. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct

MISC/TIPS

- When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.

- In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

- Certain sad or moody source tunes don't have drums or percussion for a reason. So keeping it that way may be the easiest way to retain much of the original feel, such as

They did. Its a really fun beat`em up game, and a extremely hard one, but not frustating, more like challenging. (or so I remember)

I also think LJN is not that bad of a company, they get too much bad reputation thanks to the AVGN and other Internet reviewers. (not saying they are great, but also not as bad as portrayed)

yeah, LJN get a semi-pass for me, cuz of this game alone rofl. Hard as sin, but fun as heck :nicework:

LJN did this!? lol. I wonder if they finally stepped there game up after the nes days.

I know right??

EDIT

also, even AVGN admitted that LJN did well with Maximum Carnage, in his last christmas wish-list review, I think.

I'm stuck again... I making the song with my own interpretations but I feel like I'm keeping the same mood ( however that's in my opinion so i'm probably already biased to my own song.lol)

I just don't want to do what I did last time on the water god mitula MnP and have that be a missed potential.any suggestions?

Im not sure if I got what you are saying. You think you are adding to much of your own interpretation?

Well, I dont think it will be a problem, as long as is still follow the guidelines of the compo....

you know keeping the mood, most of the notes, that kind of stuff.

Hey, you've come close to winning several times, so I'd say keep on doing what you do, and just keep these 2 things in mind: mood and energy being preserved. The notation and genre are negotiable within reason.

...and being consistent with my voting and comments has proven to be very challenging.

Back to the topic at hand, I think you have a lot of potential Supercoolmike, and there have been times (such as Watergoddess Mitula's full version) where you did shine.

Also the game has some great heavy metal tunes in his OST

They even did an unauthorized 16 bit version of The Mob Rules:

here is the original in case you didnt knew it:

Well, Wild Arms plagiarized the theme of Ecstasy of Gold, so it's all cool. I used to be all anal about that stuff, but I don't care as much; because one day we will run out of original ideas and sounds anyway :)!!

Some think we're already there...

Welcome to the Voting Stage!

  • gercr has a vote that's worth 2x
  • There are 2 participants this round.
  • There are no Bonus entries this round
  • No first-place voter bonus, due to only 2 participants.

**Remember: participants may not vote for themselves**

EDIT

Esperado, if you still want to do something for this round, you can submit it as a Bonus, since it's unfair to supercoolmike and mushroomsword, who did submit it before the cut-off time, extended or no. PM it to me and I will add it in. I intend to do a late Bonus, myself :P

Alright... :(

Well here's my Bonus...ThaSauce won't let me submit my Bonus, even after re-editing the due dates. Oh well.

You can upload it to the next round, or to the current PRC and edit the round of the song. I'll see if I can get the song at ThaSauce, but I will do that after the voting stage.

I think I know what I did wrong actually. I'll give it 1 more shot, then if that fails I shall contact you. I'll let you know either way :nicework:

Thanks Bunde!

Nice bonus

Thanks! I figure if I got Brandon Strader or another Bad-Ass remixer to collab, this could probably be posted haha. Granted... it'd prob take a lot more work on my end too, but hey, I actually enjoyed this one. Also, figured that with the low turn-out I may as well churn something out. :D
