  • I love F-zero and I especially love Mute City, my all time favorite being the guitar arrangement of the endless challenge, it just had so much energy behind it.  I wanted to try and capture the same amount of energy behind it while maintaining a rather simple sound to the song as a whole so that it doesn't exactly exhaust others with everything that's going on to the point that it starts to lose its' value and still keep you hooked until the very end, especially the very end because it would be the part people lose their interest after everything is done with and the final chorus is repeated, I always want to make it have its own unique twist to it that keeps you playing to the end and end up getting stuck in your head and make you want to keep listening to it again and again.

  • I'm also very picky about the sound, I always want to try to make everything sound the best it possibly could, I've actually redid the sound of the drums from a previous version just because the new version of the drums sounded so much fuller and more powerful, I focus on their sound so much because I believe them to be the biggest contributor of the energy to any song usually, As for the rest of the song I just try to make sound good.  For the guitars, they never sound as heavy as I want them to but they still end up sounding good in the long run.  So they've got that going for them, which is nice I guess.

Intro is... unique... piano sounds warped.  I'm happier when the guitars start.  The guitar playing is competent.  The leadwork gets buried at the choruses.  There are two spots where something isn't working harmonically:  0:46-0:49 and again from 1:33-1:36.  The soloing starting at 1:53 is AMAZING, I love it!  Drums sound really good throughout the track.  Other than the soloing, the source use is quite conservative.  The ending is a problem for me, the kick is hammering away on 16th notes.... it's super exciting... and it starts to FADE OUT.  Blarg, I can't stand this!  There's a lot of good going on in this track for sure, but I just don't think it's quite there, yet.

Yeah, I think Kris hit all the big issues I'm having with this track. The warped intro sounds very strange to me, and honestly doesn't do much to build into the energy that you have going on in the track. The drumming sounds pretty good overall, though I feel like they are a bit overpowering on speakers at times. I also feel like the balance on the guitars is off a little as well towards the end, with the thirds of the melody coming through stronger than the melody itself.

Kris is definitely right about the harmonic sections (0:46 and 1:31) sounding a bit wonky. I really want to see that fixed up, because it's completely distracting to listen to. The soloing is pretty good, though once I'm completely on board the mix fades out. I think the length of the mix is fine as is, though I wouldn't mind it stretching a bit further. Regardless, I'm not feeling the fade-out here, and would love to hear a different close-out.

On the right track here, but there's some work yet to be done. Use our WIP forums to get some feedback and keep improving!

Very exposed, mechanical-sounding piano to start, but that was quickly dropped after the intro for the rock verse. No problem with the warping effect there, just the rigid sequencing.

The drums seem slightly awkward; they're definitely too loud over the top of the guitar lead.

In principle, I like the idea of the organ usage from :41-1:00, but 1) it was barely audible, and 2) what could be heard seemed like it was clashing in places with the melody (so perhaps it was better not being heard). You'll have to fix the organ writing.

1:07-1:43 had another "Big Blue" verse but it was just a cut-and-paste of :21-:57, so something different should have been done there to develop the arrangement further. Consider some melodic or rhythmic variations, or changing the instrumentation, just something to provide some meaningful variation to keep the piece from being too repetitive.

Cool original soloing from 1:53-2:18; great energy and pretty expressive, though the transition back to the theme could have been smoother.

Pull back the drum work some so that it's not barrelling over the lead guitar,

I'm not against the fadeout ending. Sure, I'd like something more conclusive, but what's there wasn't inherently wrong, and I never get harping about fadeouts. Also, props for adding melodic doubling and other part-writing under the last verse of "Big Blue" at 2:18 for some variation on the source.

Develop the source tune some more for the 1:07-1:43 verse, fix that organ writing so it's not clashing, and adjust the loudness of the drumwork (in that order) to tighten this up. Consider an actual resolution for the ending, but IMO as long as the rest of the piece is fully clicking, that shouldn't matter.

Promising stuff so far. Even if you've moved on from this piece, definitely keep submitting arrangements and improving your skills, you have good potential based on the energy of this piece!
