Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes)

Round 74: FF Legend 2 - Battle

Youtube:

"I choose the Final Fantasy Legend 2 battle theme for round 74. I've been working on a remix of it off and on for a while (old draft here: http://ocremix.org/community/topic/45582-final-fantasy-legend-ii-battle-theme-metal-remix/ ) with the hopes of eventually submitting it to OCR. It's a really great battle theme, and I'd love to see what others make of it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on it a little more for the bonus mix for this round."

Deadline: June 6 Tues @ 1 PM

MnP ARCHIVE  made by Trism ;)

MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

MnP Instructions/Guidelines

  1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted.
  2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell.
  3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met.
  4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max).
  5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.
  6. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded.  BONUS entries are exempt of this rule.
  7. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct

MISC/TIPS
- When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.
- In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

I'll see if I can get something up, but I kind of doubt I'll have the time. I'm currently on vacation and I'm still in the process of reorganizing my house when I get back. So, yeah :(

Heh sounds like a good time.  I'm gonna be moving into my new place mid-June...lot's of packing and selling off crap.  Can't even recognize my home now.  Anyhoo, I might have to take your place this round eh?

Been pretty good overall. Lots of sites and eats, but just the timing is kind of what kills the compo for me lol

Hey Hoboka, how's it been since that competition. You stomped me that day with your masterpiece (still hoping for tips on combining themes so well) but I've greatly improved (no really). Hope your remixing has been going well.

Anyway I may enter this round (that battle theme is real tempting) but I'm also thinking about doing PRC 346 (the Battletoads one).

Also what was the original inspiration for the MnP contest? Why the almost bare-bones format?

Hey guys, it's been a while. XD I've got about a week before my online Summer classes start, so I'm going to try to do a simple arrangement, just to at lest keep myself busy and have a little bit of fun. I think I'm going to do an orchestral arrangement, to get a better feel for my software and to improve my workflow; I've gotten quite a bit of experience working on entries for these competitions, and they're great fun! I can't wait to hear what other people have planned.

I don't stomp people, not my thing.  And your remix was passable imo - you shoulda heard my first shit, Ronald Poe...my god that was literal horror.  I can't even listen to it anymore.  Looking forward to your next take.

PRC is a great place to hone skills too, I think it has a generally larger audience and participation too.  Well, sometimes it goes through dry spells but whatevs.  Battletoads has a friggin' awesome OST too.

Inspiration for MnP?  Umm, I guess I was hearing a ton of overly re-interpretive remixes during the 2011-2014 era - granted there were also a lot of good remix projects going on at that time too, wherein the remixers did their utmost best to capture the original feels.  So I was starting to feel a little salty about that (the overly-reinterpretive stuff) I guess.  And I guess a second-best motivation was that I wanted a bit of celebrity status at OCR .  Probably isn't paying off, but eh, it's fun to run this competition :D

That's a good point about MnP and the contests. You're right, I got you and GhettoLeeLewis mixed up (he's the one who stomped me in that contest and hasn't responded to that message I sent him). Sorry about that misunderstanding. Anyway I'm entering both contests and hoping that I may get lucky and win.
