For my choice for the next PRC is the Pyrite Town theme from Pokemon Colosseum. There isn't a lot to this song I feel like people can put their own personality on it that others might not expect.

I'm having trouble inputting any midi of this in this message so the link to get this is on http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon

just Ctrl+F and type in Pokemon Colosseum and its one the themes below. I'm sorry for burdening you with this.

  • 2 weeks later...

Welcome to the voting stage

The mixing stage is over. This round has 2 songs. The following people compete against each other

Kat

Shid0

(if you want a different color, let me know by replying or sending me a PM).

To vote, do the following:

·       Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries.

·       Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.

·       Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3.

·       State a reasoning for it.

·       Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they get a free first place if they vote, so it might help. They should leave the third box empty. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments.

·       Flurry of Flames has a vote that counts twice.

·       Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results. Especially since some people might vote by sending me a PM.

You have until THIS Monday, October 9th 9:59 AM ThaSauce time (17:00 UTC, 18:00 GMT) to vote (note: 1 hour shorter as usual).

If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 (or top 2 for participants) is clear. I prefer something like this:

@Flurry of Flames there's still time to pick a source for PRC359. It will start probably on sunday.

Results time.

Shid0 got 9 points, and gets the last place wooden spoon.

And the winner of PRC358 is Kat with 12 points.

Kat congratulations. You may pick a source for PRC360. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before this Monday (16 October 2017), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).

You may select any source for any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links:

Check the ThaSauce Page for the results and votes.

Vote by Flurry Of Flames:

PRC 358 Vote

1. Kat

2. Shid0

This is the hardest vote I ever had to do for PRC. Both of these remixer did one crucial key factor of jazz incredibly well, and that is improvising.  Kat was more bombastic in her arrangement with more instrumentation, more contrast in dynamics and going for a fuller and wider soundscape with emphasis on reverb. The voice was a nice touch, and although sometimes I thought the voice didn't know what vowel which made the tone somewhat fuzzy and not focused such as at the start of the second playthrough. I thought the voice really came into its own was when she was on a pure oo vowel and the high notes when it was on a "ah" vowel especially at the end as it really made it sound so effortless and really fit in well to what was going on with the rest of the instrumentation. The celeste (what I think it is?) also was a great addition at the end emphasizing the melody and getting more high range to better fill out the end as the source track in particular can be bottom heavy if not careful. Overall, Kat did an amazing job with the remix with a full sound and ingenuity in the soundscape or atmosphere.

Now with Shid0's, where Kat went with a big amount of instrumentation and a wide atmospheric sound, I feel what what Shid0 did well was everything in the remix played well and accentuated with each other. In the second half when improvising takes place, the bass, piano, and percussion work and fill out each other so well with piano taking the lead, and the bass and percussion filling in the rest of the ensemble. The piano improv was my favorite part of this track, and I would've liked if the saxophone got a bit more love on the second half on the track, or some more time to provide countermelody as the piano improv was my favorite, I feel like there is more that can be done in that area. One other aspect that I feel like that could have more use in this remix is a sense of direction in terms of contrast of dynamics or resolution at the end ot the track. At the end, I think having the sax or another instrument come back in and give a greater sense of resolution and contrast from what happened before with the piano improv, and slowly fade to the snaps would be something to look into for future remixes.

Again this is merely my opinion and I'm still trying to figure out a lot of stuff in my remixes so my advice could be wrong or not well versed. I had a lovely time listening to your remixes on repeat, and can't wait to meet you in future competitions.

Hello, thanks a lot for the feedback !

This piece was fun and interesting to mess around with, and definetely quite different from what i'm used to do though i wish I spent more time on the mixing side of things. But as usual I have this bad habbit of stopping short from finishing it up 100% (thank god I don't do this in every single area of my life... oh wait !).

Jokes aside, thanks for the critiques, it's always nice to know what people think of your work and it's even better when someone takes a liking to it :)

PS: My vote to Kat since i forgot to vote myself. Love the atmosphere and sound you went with, even tho i'm not really fond of the vocals (but that's just my opinion)
