The new remixing period length

  1. 1. What do you think of the longer remixing period and PRC?

    • Good.
      7
    • Bad idea, I prefer the two weeks round duration. PRC should stay the same.
      1
    • I want multiple sources or a whole game to select a source from to remix.
      3
    • I want easy sources as well, please scrap the rule that sources with OC Remixes aren't allowed.
      6
    • Bundeslang must enter himself instead of letting HoboKa save the contest each time.
      5
    • Please run multiple rounds in parallel (let PRC379 start in two weeks already).
      2
    • Other ideas (please post in the topic).

The People's Remix Competition 378
PRCv15-14

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

In PRC376 it was again HoboKa who saved the contest by submitting a song. Again he picked a source.

Because of the low participation I'm gonna try out a longer remixing stage. So the deadline is next month, more time to remix!!

The longer duration of the round will not affect the length of a PRC season, it will just take longer to reach round 26 of the season.

Note that also a poll is added. If anyone has ideas, let me know with a reply.

"More than words - title says all.  A surprisingly expressive tune for such limited hardware."

ThaSauce link: Click here to submit

To submit a song at the compo page you can use the ThaSauce page. If you use this, an account is required. If you don't want to use ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in this thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce. I will keep using ThaSauce as the place where all songs are located.

If you want to use ThaSauce, the following steps should be done.

  • Click the ThaSauce Link.
  • Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right.
  • Click on 'register' (at the bottom).
  • Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce.
  • Continue the process by filling in your information.
  • You will get a question to confirm that you're not a robot. Here are some possible answers:
  1. Name a compo: PRC
  2. Who organizes One Hour Compo: Starla
  3. Name a ThaSauce subdomain: compo.thasauce.net
  4. Who created Mega Mans: Capcom

A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above.

Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link.

After uploading your song, please check if your song plays and can be downloaded and played without problems. Only upload MP3 files.

PRC instructions

  • The deadline is Wednesday August 15th 2018 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 GMT), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread.
  • You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread.
  • Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.
  • Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.
  • The winner of this round may select the source for PRC380, the round after next round.
  • The winner of PRC376, HoboKa, who picked this source, can only participate by submitting a Bonus Mix. His vote is doubled in the voting stage.
  • You can find the full rules list at this page as well. Note that the remixing stage is longer, but this won't have affect on the remaining rules.

GOOD LUCK!

Apologies on MIDI...tried to find a better one, but no dice.  I think if you turn down the velocities on it it should sound good, unless you can go by ear then no probs :P

Some of the timing is off on the notes too, but for what I want to do that shouldn't be too big of an issue. Since we have a longer mixing period this time around, should be ample time to get something nice out.

I think its just that theres essentially two copies of the melody.  Theres four channels playing the melody and three playing the harmony. Three of the melody channels play nicely together, but the fourth is just the other three stacked into one channel and played off time so it sounds funny.

This longer remixing period is definitely nice. I always start a mix and then get distracted and before i know it im two days away from the sub time with no ideas.

Dude, I'm loving this longer period too. Half of my track is already done, and I'm very, very pleased with the end result. I'll definitely have something up by the submission date.

5 days bro.  Git remixin'!!!

I have! Yesterday I just reached the point where it turned from "trying to figure out the notes" to "this is starting to find some character of its own", which is exciting!

Also finally sent in my source pick for the next round. It's a genuine classic and one of my all time favourite VGM pieces!

Welcome to the voting stage

The mixing stage is over. This round has 3 songs and 3 bonus mix. The following people compete against each other

AxLR

Evktalo

Starphoenix

and there's a bonus by Hoboka

(if you want a different color, let me know by replying or sending me a PM).

To vote, do the following:

·       Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries.

·       Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.

·       Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3.

·       State a reasoning for it.

·       Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they get a free first place if they vote, so it might help. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments.

·       Hoboka has a vote that counts twice.

·       Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results. Especially since some people might vote by sending me a PM.

You have until THIS Monday, August 20th 8:59 AM ThaSauce time (17:00 UTC, 18:00 GMT) to vote.

If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 (or top 2 for participants) is clear. I prefer something like this:

Bundeslang (if you follow the link you won’t have to add my name).

(Subject)

PRC ### Vote

(Message):

1: (remixer A )

2: (remixer B )

3: (remixer C )

(reasoning)

I will post the feedback given in the PM’s and the votes in this thread. The winner may choose the source tune for PRC380.

PRC379 starts in a couple of minutes.

Check the ThaSauce Page to vote or click here to send a PM.

Results time.

Evktalo got 13 points but still ends with the last place wooden spoon.

AxLR gathered 14 points and gets the second place.

And the winner of PRC378 by unanimous decision is Starphoenix with 21 points.

Starphoenix congratulations. You are the winner. You may pick a source for PRC380. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before next Wednesday (29 August 2018), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).

You may select any source for any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links:

http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc

http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above).

Thanks for the votes in the poll, for the upcoming rounds I'll use a longer remixing stage of three weeks. I might scrap the rule that sources with OC Remixes are not allowed, didn't decide on that yet. And if I find the time, I might be able to enter more often.

Check the ThaSauce Page for the results and votes.

Welp, congrats to @Starphoenix, you deserve that win, your remix was really good !

Concerning votes, I'd like to add some precisions :

HoboKa: sorry I totally forgot to comment your bonus entry, It was good but it desynchronises with the rythm and that makes my OCD's scream a lot.

evktalo : Your remix reminded me of this xD

Nice work, would very much like to hear the final music x)

And now, to respond to some votes :

HoboKa : Didn't play the game (Still got your joke tho xD ), while listening to the music without context, I felt like it was more uplifting than sad. Which lead me to trap because it would give more energy to that ambiance.

Starphoenix : Didn't notice distortion, maybe it was caused by my drums.

Dex : Yup, Didn't feel like adding more layers would do good so I focused on what I had instead.

And there you go, that was a fun round, hope that PRC keeps that spirit onwards! I'm looking forward for next rounds !
