  1. 1. What are your thoughts on adding integrated blogs to OCR?

    • I'm a ReMixer and I'm interested, even if it costs $$$
    • I'm a ReMixer and I'd only do it if it were free
    • I'm a visitor and I'm interested, even if it costs $$$
    • I'm a visitor and I'd only do it if it were free
    • I think it's a bad idea or am otherwise uninterested

What Sephfire said.

also, even if it's only 10 people at first paying for the bloggs, it'll be worth it so go for it Dave ;)

Fix'd, since I'm positive that the people interested in having OCR blogs will go up at time passes.

Plus, according to this survey, we have over 20 so far who are interested in it even if it costs $$$, so all the better :-).

How obvious is it that a person has a blog integrated with their profile? I don't know why that's the most important to me, but I was just making sure I wouldn't be clicking everybody's profile looking for a blog.

I probably would have said no to this a while back, but now that I've gotten back into OCR a little more recently, it seems almost fun. Except for the fact that I would feel like I needed to blog just so it wouldn't be a waste of space. Hmm, I'm torn.

I still think it's a cool idea, if not for me, for everyone else.

Maybe incorporating an icon or such in the "header-thingy" when you write in the forum too? A little blog sign next to your user name probably couldn't hurt. But don't make it next to all the wiinumber, xboxlive and so on stuff. It should be easy to notice.

hmm. I probably have other ideas but I'm tired and I'm going to bed ;) I'll be back

I'm going to be starting a blog on classical music/composition/orchestration/arranging/game music/film music/whatever else pretty soon (when I can find some time.) The main focus will be to give readers and aspiring arrangers some (almost tutorial-like) insight into what I do and how they might go about doing something similar. The catch is that I will require a few embedded clips of music no longer than a minute each. If I could make it a part of ocremix it'd probably give me more motivation to inform about music rather than complain. :D

Re: Metatron and Jam Stunna

I used to be of that mind, but I think you're taking the blogs which are blatantly misused, or blogs clearly meant only for, say, friends and family of the blogger, and supplanting them as a blanket stereotype for their entirety. You are right, I could care less what bgc or djp ate for breakfast, or that they broke up with their significant other, etc. That's why I'd say if this is done, that that sort of content stays out. I don't subscribe to anybody's blog that talks about their day, or their life, however, my RSS reader is full of professional blogs of the design industry (my profession). Blogs such as this which keep abreast of industry news and goings-on show that the blogger knows their stuff in terms of the industry (which is why I would hope that more of the hardcore remixers do this) which could help them both as a remixer and given their chosen career, if it is related.

On top of that, if this is done right, connexions via reviews or trackbacks with various areas of the blogosphere related to OCR, such as gaming, game music, electronic music, electronic music equipment, and so on, will create tremendous exposure for the site.

With RSS feeds, it is now tremendously easy to keep in the know in regards to various topics. If run as a press-release style blog, readers can become aware of the professional news that strikes the remixers. Andy's news page features only things related to his music, and as long as the blogs stay along that regard, be it remixers news, or game reviews, or especially game soundtrack reviews, it will be a powerful tool for keeping tabs on the musicians and creating a large amount of activity and exposure for the site within the blogging realm.

In regards to your comment, Metatron, that's fine, you can tell your people what you're thinking, and since you're so good at it, you can act as liaison to the remixers, and personally inform ALL of their would-be rss feed subscribers their music-related news. :)

As the first post says: 'Let me know what you think!'

If you don't want my opinion, don't ask for it.

I never said that you did anything wrong. I just thought you were a bit negative and didn't really be very specific about what you disliked about the idea of OCR blogs for forum users or remixers.

Your argument was simply 'I think all blogs sucks because I don't care'.

I found that negative and not really bringing anything to the discussion.

Also it's kinda hard for a remixer to get the word out about new projects in your way. That would create millions of forum-posts saying "check out all my new stuff" much too often. Or mass-PMs. Hence it's a good idea for remixers to have a way to reach out to the community and an audience that might be interested in them.

I think making them cost money is definitely something that's going to be necessary to keep the blogs relevant. If the blogs cost money, only the people who matter (the artists, the project and community managers, and some forward community members) are going to be willing to use the blogs, and if they cost money, they're realizing it's a commitment and a tool, but not a throw-away. It's more valuable to everyone that way. BUT if people were to use their blog improperly having paid, you'd have to make sure that when they pay there's the understanding that their content is either restricted to something relevant like video games and music, or, look the other way understanding that they paid for their blog and give them some leeway on topics (well, assuming they're not filling it with porn.)

If I were to pay for one it would be because I have something important to say. And since I don't, I won't buy one, but that's exactly my point.

I somewhat agree with Shael, except I really don't think the WIP forums get enough traffic to do their job particularly well. If WIP-pimping is what we want to do, maybe putting the top 10 WIPs on the front page, or running some kind of promotional campaign for #ocrwip should be considered.

I think if you were to have blogs on the site, it would have to be for a price, otherwise everyone and their grandmother would get one, and the server would sink like the Titanic. That, and if everyone had free access to an OCR-blog, it would likely be flooded with inane garbage rather than actual journaling.

That said, I would be very interested in having a way to more closely follow the life/works of established remixers. Maybe make 'em available (still for a price) to only people who have a song posted? I think that might work. Remixer-exclusive blogs could possibly be a very informative resource for newbies, lurkers, and aspiring remixers.

This would be a great way to give updates on my original works to all y'all. However, I probably wouldn't do it if it was over 10 bucks...

Also, there would have to be some kind of option to have a constant link to the blog from posts - (kind of like the "OverClocked ReMixer" thing that's under remixer's names, maybe just have a Blog link of some kind) because I'd want to be assured people would actually have the chance to read it without my advertising it everywhere.

Still, this is a pretty cool idea. These kind of expanded functions might increase site visitors/interest too.

EDIT: Oh, I see easy accessibility has already been talked about. Never mind.

I'd probably be up for that. A lot of my listeners are from here, but a lot don't frequent my own page. Users are lazy. It would be a good promotional tool that I can post news on in a place where a lot of my listeners already go. I'm planning on doing a some game remixes (which I haven't done in a long while), so I won't just be spamming my originals :)

It would be awesome if there was some sort of little widget that would aggregate like the last 3 blog headlines from my ocremix blog into some small text in my forum sig or something.

This has been up for awhile; I actually think I'm eventually gonna move my own blog off my homepage and here to OCR, so we'll probably be going ahead with this, FYI...

...BUT I'm going to wait until we've safely upgraded and templated vBulletin 3.7; there are enough changes, specifically to the interface, that I want to handle them and get us set on 3.7 before adding anything new (like the blogs).
