Final Fantasy 9 'the battle of strings and a cell phone'

I'm a lot more serious about music then I realized up to this point. I don't have the same appriciation for a portion of a remix being played on a cell phone as some people seem to have. It all sounds like it took some serious talent to produce something like this, but due to the overall sound quality and the fact that one of the instruments is a not so great sounding piece of electronics, I wouldn't keep something like this. So great work zid, I can't say that you aren't pleasing a crowd, just not me. :P Oh, and the world doesn't revolve around me, so no worries.

Great instrument choices!

When it got around to the first cellphone part, I just cracked up! Great stuff! Guitar is played well, and complements the cellphone quite nicely :P

Overall, a fun little piece to listen to when you need a good laugh.

I love the guitar, and the cell phone was just great, this is definatly worth it to see how Zid mizes these instruments together so well

Brilliant! I want this as a ringtone on my Nokia!
*laughs her ass off*

oh, btw, the guitars sound more than decent.

Fun remix, definitely a keeper! :D

LOL.
Great remix, great for a laugh, and to wake the up in the morning. I just kinda hoped for a lil more cell phone, and at the end it did a minor little cell phone ending

Hhaha awesome!! The cellphone is great. Guitars are played very well. I enjoy listening to this. I like the backwards guitar recording effect used once in a while. Awesome.

I liked this one overall. It's very resourceful, if nothing else, and considering the instruments used, it's played very well.

A good fun remix, but is anyone else as irratated by that white noise in the backround which sounds like something vibrating?

DJ_Aquagenesis
12-12-2002, 11:34 PM
yea there is a rather disturbing noise in the background. i cant tell if its a nasty clip, but its bothersome

Straziante
12-12-2002, 11:52 PM
Damn you! I was arranging this song for a metal remix! But nevertheless, this is resourceful as all hell. The cellphone was an interesting touch to the song, which had a very amateur feel to it. Not exactly the best as far as sound quality, and the guitar is played pretty decent. I recommend that anyone who is a fan of the Final Fantasy 9 battle theme to listen to this at least once. If not, I'd stray from this one.

This would be a great idea if it was LISTENABLE-- the volume/clipping problems are just WAY out of hand for me to enjoy/appreciate/respect it

Yaaay!!! Remix of battle music (can't go wrong with that for an FF game!) AND A CELL PHONE!?! Whooooooooaaa!! Great work!http://www.geocities.com/crazy_name_changer/Clapping.txt

I thought it was great guitar interpretation. Then the phone thing would've suprised me if it wasn't mentioned in the summary. When I actually heard it, I thought "That's bad ass! I'm totally geting a cell phone now." ...It does it good because unlike the original track this is done purely in guitar. The phone gives you something more to listen to, though maybe anything other instrument than a phone could be better. But what the hell do I know

Seriously though, I love this mix. It's totally creative and original. Keep that Nokia rockin'.

I love nylon strings. They sound so mellow. There is a problem with clipping, but overall I like this very much. The playing reminds me of the Cranes' style.

Was is inspiration, or was it boredom? At this point, I'm luaghing too hard to care. This is one talented remixer here. The sounds were a tad loud and ear-piercing at parts, but otherwise not too bad. A for creativity, add a plus for making my night while I study for finals. ^_^

Hahaha! Now, this is was an INTERESTING track! This is one of the most creative songs I've heard since Team Gato's stuff. You gotta love that cell phone and it's cute little melody that goes along with the battle theme. I dig~

this really is a great piece. I love it. I just wish the volume / filtering / noise processing whatever problems weren't there. It sounds very dirty.

Well, I used to play this a lot in Windows 98, and it soudned incredible, but now that I'm using XP Pro more and more (on a different partition), I have noticed that XP keeps bumping the Bass WAY too high for my speakers, or me ears' liking. But this song is really cool. I'd like to know how he the the cell phone to do that...Did he record them all separately, or did he somehow program it to do that live? And that line hum is slightly more noticeable in XP as well, especially the beginning. Otherwise, I loved this song. I haven't played IX yet, but when I do, I'll hear this song and start laughing.

This song is utterly awesome. Its been a long time since I last posted, but eh. This is noteworthy of my taking a moment to stop and drop a line about it. I have the original version, and it plays pretty much perfectly in tune. Even if there is that fuzzy sound, I dont mind it in the slightest. I think it should be more or less overlooked, because it seems like thats what people are putting emphasis upon when they listen to the song and not the -song- itself.

The guitar work is very admirable. And the cell phone idea is insanely inventive. Kudos on that, and kudos again. I look forward to more of the like. Perhaps a full blown rendition of One Winged Angel with some Nokia cell beats thumping alongside the lyrics of the song?

Lol. Just an idea. Keep up the good work.

I'm not laughing, I'm digging this immensely. This is one the best re-arrangements on the site, and absolutely the best FF9 battle remix I've heard. The strings and the guitar clearly steal the show, and the mobile phone tune provides interesting spice. It's not a battle between those elements, really, everything works very well together. The 'battle draw-in' sound at the beginning is a very nice touch, too, though its easy to miss on the first go. The style is very flamenco, right down to tapping the guitar (or that could be stomping the floor too). The sound is rugged, but so is life. The hiss is regrettable, but this is an awesome, original piece of music, deserving of much praise.

Exelent ReMix maybe next time move microphone back to reduce the problems you had? Maybe u can work on something like Frogs Theme from Chrono Trigger with the guitar/cell phone that would be awesome =)

Yeah the cell phone was cool, but the excellent guitar work is why I like this song. I just love the way it sounds. Now while I would probably better enjoy something processed for better sound quality, this is a welcome addition. A great way to break in this battle theme for the OC site. :D

12-21-2002, 01:28 AM
I liked this one - and even though it was noticeably annoying, I don't mind the clipping any bit. It seems to give the remix sort of an underprocessed feeling, which I feel gives it character. It seems like there's a whole bunch of remixes here that have everything perfectly processed, but that eliminates any real feeling I can get from the music. It just makes it sound too...perfect, and music isn't perfect.

So yes, clipping IS annoying, but it's something you can get used to. The guitar playing is great, and the cell phone adds a great deal to this remix. Some good stuff....

Wow. I can't imagine the time and effort it took to learn all the parts of this on the guitar. I had a whole long post written... then my computer crashed... so I'll just say this:

excellent guitar playing + cool and original cell phone part = awesome remix.

That cell phone brings back memories of playing Red Alarm on Virtualboy. I can see those red after images now.
As for the song, I can't help but echo what has already been said: Great work on the guitar, the clipping is bad, but not intolerable. I love the guitar playing a lot, and I think that we need more live instruments in our remixes.

This is so beautiful.

Nah, but to get serious, it was really good, the string play was really good and to top it off the CELLPHONE. Made me laugh and bob my head the same time. So I was rocking and laughing.

09-06-2003, 07:33 PM
Wow...the cellphone is just awesome...Note that some others may have arranged that cell phone part differently, and not make it sound as cool...but you sorta staccato'd it, and made it sound so...so...its...*_*

I actually heard this ReMix on a video game music radio show called Ultra Mega OK! (http://www.gongaga.net/megaok/) before I found it on OC, and thought it was funny. Sure the sound quality isn't the greatest (it helps to use a DSP while listening), but the use of just an acustic guitar and a cellphone is quite creative. This has become the official song that I play when I get annoyed at cellphones (I don't have one).

Maybe Zid can make a ringtone out of this?

Sweet mother of god, my ears. I mean, the song itself is okay, but I listen to music really loudly, and the fuzz of the guitar and the pierce of the cellphone are far to intense. Clean up the guitar a bit, and lower the volume of the cellphoen track, and you got a decent mix... right now, it's window shattering.

Brim

Ahaha I love this song, its great. The quality is a bit low-par, but that doesn't really matter, I love this song because it made me remember FF9, and also because of the cell phone. Its one of the first mixes I downloaded, I believe.

When I listen to this song, I imagine walking into a small garage and watching a guy slamming off some music on his guitar. Suddenly, he jerks out his cellphone and holds it out like in a commercial, and it chimes in with its portion. Fun stuff.

09-17-2004, 07:56 AM
I love the guitar for this piece(I was really worried that it would be totaly awfull cause of the cellphone part!) I didn't notice the white noise in the background, untill I actualy listened for it I heard it, but just barely. But I listen to music to enjoy it, so meh. No mistakes musicaly or weird notes that just sounded wrong so bleh, awsome piece. Even with the cellphone.

Well, It ain't that But but it Ain't the SHarpest Kunai in the Puch Y'KNow... But still a Cool Remix, I enjoyed the Cellphone part LoL... Unlike some people who don't really Like it though but It's still Different. That Noise in the Backround was Kinda annoying after a while though... White Noise is REALLY Annoying... Oh well

I must say this was one of my favorite remixes to Final Fantasy IX. It sounds like somethin my brother's best friend would play. You can almost see the rednecks playin their guitars on the porch with some cousin from the city usin his cell phone in parts of it...... sry, I got a wild imagination but this remix is awesome, keep up the good work!![/b]

Who said you needed remixing tools for hundreds of bucks? zid just make me laugh, I had listened to it in the past, but for now I remembered it and laughed and laughed...and laughed. His creativity blow all our minds, and it´s funny.
But it not all funny, that guitar is awesome, very skilled played, and with that bright Nokia tune, it just EYH! Rock´n Roll!
Well, maybe not that, but at least roll.

Freaking awesome! Not in a technical, artistic, Move-Over-Nobuo kind of way. More like a What-can-I-do-to-throw-people-for-a-loop way. I listened to it and at first I laughed-quite a bit in fact. But before I knew it I was bopping along with the tune and actually looking forward to the Nokia's next feature. Long story short, this song is now on my Ipod. It's just so damn catch-y!

Oh man, this remix. It came up on the roulette and I instantly remembered it all.

It's funny and it's original and all that (CELLPHONE FTW), but MAN that sound quality is something awful. I'd like this mix a lot more if it didn't sound as bad as it does.

I love this mix because of the innovation; it's great to see people branching out from more conventional instruments and creating things that aren't just meritable on the basis that they're an arrangement of a video game track, but are true works of creativity. Who knows, maybe someday we'll hear a theremin or a didgeridoo in a ReMix.

(Er, if either of those {live} instruments already are in a ReMix, please let me know.)

I didn't understand what the title of this song meant at first. So I gave it a listen and laughed so hard when the phone kicked in. I thought the title was a joke. Other than the "Oh my god he used a cellphone" reaction, this is also a pretty cool mix. Downloaded.

agree with the person who said this one doesn't get old

as much as i love the cell phone i wouldn't mind a version without it, and better recording quality.

but i still like it a lot!

Ooh, I love this. Right up my alley. I don't mind the blaring on the guitar, it fits right in in my opinion. The imperfection of the recording is half the charm. The cellphone is a bit piercing, though. Never mind that. This isn't just a funny track, the arrangement is really good, rather beautiful in places.

Gotta say that this is a pretty nifty mix. Recording quality is pretty bad - especially by OCR's current standards, but it was pretty innovative for the time, especially the cell phone bits. Really predates all these people running around 'making music' with their weird little iPhone apps these days :nicework:

Can't really say this mix is much more than a novelty, but it is at least amusing for its cute use of the cellphone.
