The mixing stage has come to a close, and now it's time to do the voting. Here's what you need to do -

Sign up there if you haven't done so already.
Select which of the two mixes you prefer (obviously the contenders themselves can take a break from voting this week).
Write a reasoning to elaborate on your decision.
Click "submit vote" and have a happy French Independance Day... providing you didn't miss out last Saturday?

You have until Thursday, July 19th at 4:59AM EST to vote. The winner gets to choose the source material for PRC99!

The People's Remix Competition 98
PRCv4-20

Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) PRC97's Pokemon-related contest had an amusing turnout as a result, and from all this we faced a first win from Hylian Lemon who came forth with something rhapsodic in order to take the prize.

We are still with the Gameboy in this PRC, and we're going from one popular game franchise to another as well. I bet 50 rupees that we'll get four or more entries on this one; what do you think?

http://bev.wooff.googlepages.com/prc98.jpg

I wasn't really expecting to win that... o.O

Anyway, my song choice for the next competition is Crescent Island from The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. I've made this decision for a few different reasons:

1. I think people could come up with some fun remixes of this.
2. Nobody gives the Oracles the attention they deserve, even though it's fricking Zelda we're talking about here.
3. Some other third thing.

Now tell those slaves to get cracking.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages - Crescent Moon Island
GBS (track 4) (bev.wooff.googlepages.com/prc98.gbs) | MIDI (http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/PRC98_crescent_island.mid) | MP3 (http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/PRC98_crescent_island.mp3)

I think we faced enough weirdness when it comes to Zelda coverage through The Music of My Groin, so I'm hoping this compo will go by pretty "normally"... or so I think. Come on, it's Zelda; what do we expect?

GOOD LUCK!

Fine Print:
PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness.
There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed.
Entries must be posted at the Compo ThaSauce link (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC98) by NEXT SATURDAY, July 14th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. Alternatively, you can also email your submissions over to submission@doulifee.com, though it would also help if you put forward a reminder in the thread.
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix.
Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted.
The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double.
Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.

...interesting source. I can totally feel a wave of wacky mixes coming on...

EDIT: I should probably change my sig now

Upon winning, one word crossed my mind: OMGWTFARETHESEPEOPLETHINKING.

I hope people enjoy working on this song. Oracle of Ages is very close to my heart. [/cheese]

Everyone says OMG, Oracle of Ages was better than Oracle of Seasons. I felt much more accomplished when I finished Seasons though. All of the bosses in Ages were pansies, and on the whole I found Seasons to have better music.
Oh well, I suppose I should get to mixing eh?

Hylian Lemon
07-08-2007, 07:26 PM
Seasons does have Tarm Ruins on its side...but I see the two games as generally equal music-wise. As a whole, I prefer Ages because of its superior storyline and puzzles, but Seasons definitely made me feel more accomplished, if only because of that stupid Onox.

Stupid Onox.

Ahaha, I don't want to turn this into a discussion thread, though. To get back on topic...

I can make a bonus mix, right? I can't help myself...

Chickenwarlord
07-09-2007, 05:08 AM
Ugh... I guess I'm just really good at those 'gameboy Zelda-esque' puzzles. I found almost no roadblocks throughout the whole of Ages, save for the level 8 boss who was more annoying than hard.
Yes, Onox was definitely a beast. I have yet to beat him with the cursed ring, which is something I can't say for anything in OoA.
Anyway, back to the music and such: I would have preferred the other Crescent Island theme, sadly. Oh well, I have a WIP as of right now.

Man, I've got no inspiration from this one so far. I guess it would help if I had played the game, but my last Zelda game was LttP (3d zelda never really appealed to me for whatever reason). Hopefully something will come to me eventually.

Yes you can :D Sometimes I do that to help encourage some source tunes I picked in the past (and by sometimes, I mean only twice, lol).

Newcomers are always welcomed. It's always good to hear a new style in this competition, outside from the regulars.

Good luck!

Ooh I forgot to ask, are you allowed to post a mix you're planning to use for the contest in the WIP-forum?

Hylian Lemon
07-10-2007, 08:34 PM
Nope. As far as I know, you're not allowed to get any comments on it before the voting results are in. After the contest, you can revise it for other uses, but yeah.

Hmm, I was actually under the impression that you could. I think the qualitative comments rule is to prevent people from posting "mix X is better than the rest" etc. in this thread until voting is complete so it doesn't influence other voters.

-.-

The sad thing is, that makes sense. Maybe Rexy can clear things up?

You're allowed to post a mix in the thread, to show people what they're up against, but no one is supposed to comment on it's quality.
I don't know about putting things in the WIP forum though.

I don't know about putting things in the WIP forum though.

Well in that case it really depends on what you mean by 'commenting on it's quality', since what I'm really looking for is objective feedback in the vein of " You should tone down the reverb" or " That transition could be a bit smoother", not necessarily for comments like " I love the drum sequencing".

But anyway, since it seems like the question in my previous post hasn't been asked before, I guess it's customary for you guys not to post your submissions in the WIP-forum for feedback, so I'll abide by that for now, at least until anyone else clears this up.

Rexy
07-11-2007, 01:22 PM
Well I haven't seen anyone use the WIP forum in the past. Generally, people work on the mixes for PRC and plop them in the thread when they're done, and once the contest is over they could improve on it for the future if they want.

By that, I wouldn't advise using the WIP forums for seeking for feedback on your work, though there's nothing wrong with sending private messages to people who could help you out or contacting them over AIM or MSN or whatever.

Sir_NutS
07-11-2007, 03:20 PM
As far as I know, people have used the WIP forums to post their wip's and get feedback. Posting the song here is forbidden to keep things clean and fair, but if you think you need help, you can post it in the wip forums, as far as I remember this isn't against the rules.

Good luck.

I agree with this, I only found this thread because it was the only thread with a new post after a refresh. Were this in GenDisc I would probably have seen it much sooner.

Rexy
07-19-2007, 09:00 AM
I'm sorry, but if either of you two voted, then your votes will have to be erased.

When a contestant votes, they will automatically share first place with the first place entry that they vote for. Since they're not allowed to vote for themselves, that cancels their vote out in a two-mix situation and they do absolutely nothing to the final rankings.

Chickenwarlord
07-19-2007, 09:16 AM
Well, I guess I was using that as more as a criticism holder than a thing to decide ranking. It doesn't effect the ranking, but it does help to see what we thought of each others works.

Rexy
07-19-2007, 10:54 AM
Oyeah, I should have thought about that. X_x Sorry about that. If you want to repost your response to each other's works in the thread, you can do that.

Anyway, we have results coming through. Who can lift the Master Sword for the longest period of time?

Total number of mixes: 2
Total number of votes: 5
Highest possible score: 10 (how generally pathetic, lol)

Our winner by an unanimous vote is Tensei-San with 10 points!

Another first victory and another unanimous vote for two weeks running. Well done Tensei-San; you've managed to put forth a good effort for your first try at PRC.

I suppose now you'll need informing on what kind of source tune to pick for for the next contest. What you should do is go for any kind of source tune, as long as it hasn't been covered on OCR yet (site projects don't count). It can be anything from the most ridiculously obscure (possibly one of your fave C64 games that no one else has ever played, if you have any) to those from a popular game (e.g. Sonic 1 boss). Let me know your choice as soon as possible.

Thank you very much and I should see you again tomorrow for PRC99.

where's reelmojo? he should be around for this kind of stuff, although Rexy is the legitimate owner now, it would be nice to see reelmojo around for this world-changing event. Maybe he can drop a remix while he's passing by, or choose the source for PRC100 *hint*

I haven't seen reelmojo online in ages :( but yeah, he DEFINITELY needs to keep checking in. PRC was his baby after all; I'm just the adoptive mother.

There is something special that I have in mind for PRC100, I can assure you. All I'm missing is a source tune and who to get it from. I failed at getting one from Nineko since he thinks he didn't deserve to give a source tune after the PRC76 fiasco (Decap Attack), so who knows where I should go next, lol.

And yes, you send the source tune to my PM box. The sooner it's there, the better prepared I'd be for the next PRC :)
