One thing to note for Mozilla/FireFox users is that if you change network.http.sendRefererHeader to 0, you trade some functionality elsewhere (like on download sites that check to make sure there's no external linkage) for .jpg/.gif sigs hosted on Geoshitties & AngelFire to work properly.

I've had that set to 0 since... Well, sometime. But I still can't see images on my own site (http://corporal.shutupyou.net/OC_ReMoved). It works in IE, though I can't get it to work in Firefox.

It only helps if the server normally checks the http referer header before serving external linkage.

Hey all,
Sorry if this is a re-post. I thought I posted this last night but apparently it didn't go through because I can't find it in the forum.
As you can see at the bottom of my post, my signature isn't working. I think I've followed the instructions correctly, but I still don't have an image. Can anyone figure out why?
Second, where can I go to have someone make me a signature? The one I am trying to have now will suffice for starters, but it's not very good and is quite grainy because the only program I have to work with is Paint. I'd like a better one.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Copying and pasting one of the URL's claims the account is password protected, and won't show the picture.
Besides that, if it wasn't I have a feeling it'd take you to a (generated)HTML page with the picture in it. Might wanna right-click on the picture on that page, select Properties and copy the image location there, then post it.

ok, have a quick question, don't hate me if it's a simple one it's going on 4 in the am here and I'm tired...
Recently I've been dabbling in page/script editing (mainly javascript editing) for my website...I was wondering if it's possible to turn this page (http://www.geocities.com/manofchivalry2002/FFluvrsig.html) into a sig.
Currently, it's in html format and isn't really a picture, it's just part of the script. How can I turn it into an animated Gif?
Oh, I'm kind of stupid in case you hadn't noticed, so if anyone should be kind enough to reply with an answer, please put it in simple, easy-to-understand instructions for me...thanks

(Note: I didnt think it would be right make a new thread for such a small question

I can't seem to get html code to work in a sig - what gives?
Smoke
09-11-2004, 02:47 AM
Two things:
1. All tags must be ended by the same tag with a / in front of it. [i]text[i] is bad code, while
[i]text[/i] is correct.
2. All image links MUST have a jpg, png or gif extension. Wrong extensions or no extensions won't make the image show but just the plain code for it.
http://www.megaman.net/images/mega1.gif will work, however http://www.megaman.net/images/mega1 won't work.

Then you could reply to it or edit the quote in case you're trying to quote a specific part. Also, you could always use the quote tags if you want to quote something else.

1) I don't know.
2) www.imageshack.us is the same as photobucket, but better. It allows you to store images up to 1024 kb in size while photobucket only allows 250 kb. Imageshack is also better for GIFs than photobucket.

heres some important info for anyone who wants to use or post a picture from a site that restricts outside linking, but for any given reason doesnt feel the need to upload to imageshack, photobucket, or etc.
lets say that you wanted to, for example, show an image that is hosted from a tripod website.
if i input [img]http://members.tripod.com/beckysroom/darwin.jpg[/img]
we would all see this:
http://members.tripod.com/beckysroom/darwin.jpg
the wonderful tripod no-leeching image.
however, if you put http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/ in front of that very URL, like so:
[img]http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://members.tripod.com/beckysroom/darwin.jpg[/img]
we will see this:
http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://members.tripod.com/beckysroom/darwin.jpg
the intended image.
everyone have fun with this now, because i don't forsee this anonymizer site going down any time in the near future.
this, also, can be applied to any other form of file, not solely images.
(also, mods, djp, whoever; could this be deemed important enough to have its own form of stickied thread, or at least be incorporated into something else?)

Photoshop doesn't dig the whole "Animated GIF" deal, you'll have to use ImageReady for that(Which comes with a nice help file, and there's plenty of tutorials online as well)

I'm new to having a SIG. right now my sig is just a line: tizzle blizzle 1/2 black 1/2 asain.
After reading the first page of this thread I understand I need to upload an image I want as a SIG to the internet.
However how to I post a moving image? I've notice a few people have sigs that move like Yu-yu-kasha or one of the Anime guys "powering up" where the flames are moving and another person has a moving picture of Ken from SFII doing a flaming uppercut.
I want to know what steps I need to do this? I have a small file of two stick figures fighting each other doint boxing and then karate and wanted to use it as my sig. I currently have the file in a folder on my desktop.
could someone please tell me what I need to do to upload it on the internet (since its a image that moves) its a 768KB video clip.
Thanks

ok a little more info. I tried to upload the file to ImageShack but it said my file type (avi) is not allowed.
how would I change the the avi file to an allowed file like Jpeg or Gif.
last off i was wrong on the size. my avi file is 1.44MB and Imageshack says it only allows 1.02MB's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any help would be greatly appreciatedThe answer is you'd have to convert it manually into an animated GIF file.
An AVI file is actually a video file. To use an AVI would be the same as saying you want to upload a Windows Media Player file (WMV) or a Quicktime movie (MOV) as your sig. It's not possible.
JPGs and GIFs are the most common image formats used for sig. A GIF is actually more of an animated picture, but one that you have to animate yourself if you plan on creating a new one out of this video. Using a program like ImageReady (which is usuually bundled with Photoshop) is pretty much the standard around here. But, you'd have to create this GIF image by image, frame by frame til you have a moving image.
As a side note, though, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT have an sig that's over - I can't believe I'm saying this - 400kb. Some people don't have cable modems (or in your case, if you're looking to upload a 1.5 MB sig, a T3 connection). I used to say 100kbs, but people are getting more and more inconsiderate daily, and I'm going with the times.
Keep signature images small, because large animated sigs are a pain in the ass to load, and cause incredibly bad slowdown, which ruins the forum going experience for others. Thanks to programs like FireFox, these ricockulously huge sigs can be blocked, and I (as an example) pretty much block everyone's sigs that are WAY too huge, and I'm possitive most other people here do the same, meaning that you'd be uploading a sig people will block anyway.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I downloaded UnFREEz but I'm having trouble.
I downloaded an AVI/video file of two stickfigures fighting each other (Jet-li and Jackie chan)
Its 1.44MB's. Then I downloaded ImageVideoMachine from download.com which broke the video into 1807 JPEG images which I put in an empty folder.
Afterwards (now) I just downloaded UnFREEz 2.1 and followed all the steps but realized I needed GIFs so I rebroke the video file and selected GIF as the image format. I deleted the original 1807 JPEG images. Now when I right click any of the 1807 images and select properties the image registers as a GIF.
However when I select all the images and drop them in unfreez and click "make animated GIF" and save it to my desktop I get a screen reading "ERROR Not a GIF File, or incorrect version number"
Why is this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS Even though the original AVI was 1.44mb, the 1807 GIfs amount to 5.7MBs. why is this and how should i make it smaller so it can be my sig

Fairly simple. Switch to a different filetype, as these forums only support .jpg, .png and .gif. If you're stuck with Paint on XP, save the file as .png because the jpg compression it does is fucking horrible.

...
I tried making a space, a paragraph break, and none of them seem to work in my sig. I'm trying to seperate that 'line' between the post and the sig so it doesn't rest right on top of the image. I've seen someone seperate it, but I have no idea how.
Does <html> work in the sig post? I could definately do it if it does, but that would show up funny for people who have the "Always Allow HTML" option turned off, which is the default.

Copy and paste this into your sig box:

Let's make this easy, since I've mentioned it before in one of your many Unmod topics.

Make sure it looks like that. That checkbox with the red arrows pointing to it should be UNCHECKED.
Alternatively, go to Profile, scroll down to Always Allow BBCode and set it to YES.

You may want to find a way to getting that picture into something that isn't so tall. The width is fine, but height is another story.
In my humble opinion, any sig that's over 200 pixels in height is a little intrusive. between 100 and 150 is a pretty good range. Mine is 120 pixels tall, and 500 wide.
Width's are more varied. More than 600 might be questionable, though.

first off,
1. i dont think the members who have been here for a while will make a sig for me
2. i can try myself and hope for the best
3. if i try and fail, who should i ask and how fast could they make a sig? an hour or two or a day?
i hope i didnt ask to many questions.
I did some work on your sig, darthtime, but I don't know if it works for ya.
In case my private message didn't go through, here.

Since I doubt the UnMod thread will be of much help to you after those threads you made, go into the Ye Olde Sig Shoppe (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=41441) and just request it there. Waiting time will vary depending on what it is you want and who does it.
If you'd rather not wait, get a generic sig at the Sig Shoppe (http://photobucket.com/albums/a365/Sig_shoppe/).

Combine the three images into one larger picture in any editing software. Voila!
Yeah, just make sure they're saved as either .PNG or .GIF and not .JPG, so you can keep a transparent background. But seeing as how one of them has animation, your best bet would be .GIF.
