Hey folks!
Long time listener, first time poster...
I've been a big fan of OCR for a long time, ever since I started feeling nostalgic for old game music. I first tried to find the original songs, but this was often difficult or expensive. but then heard of your site and was blown away by the consistent high quality of the remixes, and I've not looked back!
I wish everyone here the greatest of success, and eagerly await those projects that are currently in progress.
I did have one question to ask though, which is I suppose why I registered. I was looking at the requests thread, and noticed it was geared towards asking about specific games or specific tracks within games.
I was looking to make a general request for a few well known PC game series, but wasn't really sure if that was the appropriate place to ask... and I feel a bit forward in asking, since I can make very little contribution due to my complete lack of musical ability!

requests is for all requests. if you want to hear remixes of starcraft songs, you can make a general post there detailing what you mean.
just don't expect anything. it's rare for things to come from requests, in case you didn't notice.

Thanks, I've made my pitch.
Better to ask and hope, than stay silent and never know.
I'll be happy with several of the upcoming projects anyway, and there always seems to be plenty of new remixes whenever I visit.
Thanks again!
Magnus.

Hello all, I've been listening to OCR's for a long time now, back when this site was still just getting started and there weren't even 500 songs yet. Aahh bring back memories =)
Anywho, I signed up for the forums because I want to try remixing myself, or give it a shot at least. I've wanted to remix since I first discovered this site, and I guess now it's finally time to try!
Nice to meet everyone ^_^

Greetings everyone! I've been a lurker for a while, and recently decided I put some words to my thoughts, and hopefully get to know a few of you.
I'm currently living in Japan, but am originally from Minnesota, USA. Trying my best to learn more Japanese and keep up with a lot of talent I've heard so far on the site. Let's see... my interest in games ranges from Adventure to Party to RPG to Puzzle to Strategy... and everywhere in between. Hmmm, I keep wanting to say my favorite food is cantaloupe or something (Japan seems to be very fond of self-introductions, and I'm used to using very simple things to talk about myself).
As far as music goes, I minored in music at my college with a focus in vocal... and I only know a bit of music theory to try and back up my opinion. In other words, I'm still learning and I hope to learn a few things along the way! See you around the forums! Yoroshiku

Hey. Obviously I'm new here. I've been a long time fan of the albums here, and was hoping to get into some remixing myself.
I know this is slightly off topic in this thread, but would anyone have some general advice on remixing (besides what's posted on the Guides & Tutorials form)?

Well, for my introduction. I go by Irateresearchers.
I've downloaded tons of content from this site, as well as led others to it long before joining.
I would be a gamer, artist (so they say), and a writer.
I also tend to use ellipses far to often.
I've followed the site since "Voices of the Lifestream."
My favorite music would be DnB, Rock, Acoustic, and Techno.
My favorite games would be:
Total Annihilation
Command and Conquer (Gold Edition) and Red Alert
Starcraft
Final Fantasy IV,V, and VI
Warcraft III
Thunderforce II
Jungle Strike
Half-Life 1 and 2
Metroid Prime
and lastly World of Warcraft...
Not in any particular order.
I dislike debating over religion or politics, because it tends to make people hate me. I do like talking about Warhammer 40k (tabletop).
I have a love of fiction, preferrably fantasy and sci-fi, and would be happy to discuss recent novels.
I enjoy vocaloids too, but I like OC Remix music more.
My only experience (sp?) in musicmaking would be Garageband (which wasn't that lovely.)
That about covers it.
Geez... that was only four times bigger than I'd hoped...

Hey guys, glad to finally be apart of the community :)
I've been a stalker of the OC Remix website for a couple o' years now, and thought it was finally time to join the forums and attempt to make a contribution to some of the awesome, fantastic, brilliant work here, if I can.
Note that in a year I'll probably still only be 'planning' to do a remix ^^;
I play the alto sax, susato pentatonic recorders, and can sing, as well as having access to heaps of talented musician friends and a recording studio at my university that can be book to use for free. I'm still just a beginner at Pro Tools but I hope to become more familiar with it in the near future. Until then, I will work with my humble little Cool Edit Pro 2 xD
When I do actually come out with a few remixes, they're probably be around the area of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Shadow of the Colossus and Sailor Moon: Another Story (although I'm not even sure if there's a category for the latter), as they're the games I already have tracks in mind for.
Um, that's all for now.

I've been a fan of this site for over a year but never participated. I just got finished with my Electrical Engineering classes recently so now I actually have time to do things that I want to do (like play and write music)!
I play Electric Bass and a bit of Keyboard. I love rock, metal, techno, trance, house, jazz, and classical.
I use Propellerhead's Reason and Record to make music.
I love the albums on ocremix.
I hope to contribute my own musicality to this wonderful community.

I've never tried Drum and Bass music. I'd love to experiment with it sometime.
Prophet, for me music is music. Music is just pitches rearranged in time. Most of the time those pitches played with a rhythm make me feel good. The pitches however must be used in an organized fashion and adhere to some music theory rules.
I only have a few genres I absolutely hate : Hardcore Screamo, most of that emo indie crap, radio pop, radio rock, and reggae.
I hate what the mainstream has done to modern music.
I too wonder why the Bass is spelled B-A-S-S.
On dictionary.com Base is defined as "the bottom support of anything; that on which a thing stands or rests".

Bass when referring to the fish rhymes with mass.
Bass when referring to lower frequencies rhymes with face.

Heyla! I've been listening since about 2004 and finally decided to show up.
While I would like to remix, it probably will not happen. I am fairly musically inclined, but I don't have the money or time to put into remixing (college takes over my life). The only 'instrument' I have experience in is my voice. I usually sing alto, but I can sing soprano too sometimes.

Heya, I'm FreezeFlame. I too have been around the site for some time. Love all the music here.
I do remix/arrange some music to video games such as Legend Of Zelda. I have 6 years on the Trumpet, and 3 years on the Piano. But I am not a fan of recording myself playing covers of songs. So I use FL Studio 8 to write my melodies. I specialize in arrangement of music, rather than covering a song note-for-note. I use Symphonic/Orchestral instruments in FL, with using Edirol Orchestral. I hope to contribute here as soon as I have enough confidence to post something...
^most of us here are trying to improve in musical production(or whatever you'd like to call it) & the best way is to give & receive feedback. no one on this forum should be ashamed of posting their compositions, because we all have to start somewhere

I have a musical background and am also interested in Sound Engineering/mixing/editing.
What's a good way to get started doing a mix for this site? I have a Macbook pro and would appreciate some recommendations for programs that would help a beginner. Thanks in advance!

12-07-2009, 06:03 AM
Hello everyone. I'm new here on the forums, but I have been visiting for about 5 years now.
I always said that if I got means, I'd join the OCremix, since I love games and I love music.
Subsequently, I kinda like game music. Go figure.
I got Fruity Loops a while back sometime in May, so I finally have the means to make music. Whether that music is good or not.. well.....
In any event, a small history:
I've played the piano for 10+ years, and the trumpet for 9, am considering a double-major in music theory (I am a history major now), and I am a big aficionado of modern classical music, ie, stuff that no one likes to listen to (Schoenberg, Ligeti, Boulez, etc). A small dream of mine (something of a joke) is to do a total serialist rendition of the Zelda theme. How would that work out? I still have to figure that one out.
My favorite game series are pretty typical... I like Zelda, and Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem, etc. My all time favorite series would have to be Metroid. In fact, I signed up on this forum under the name "Emperor Ing" a good 2 years ago. However, I never received an activation email, and despite emailing a few folks, I got nothing. That's in the past, and I'm fine, since this is the name of my music-making persona across the web.
Hopefully, you won't think me TOO much of a noob. Amateur, definitely. But noob? That's harsh.
Here is a sample of something I made for an album a while back (totally free of course):
http://www.last.fm/music/Emperor+Charlemagne/_/Organ+Grinder
I like to cover a bevy of styles, but if I get myself a really good free (lol) orchestral set of samples, I want to focus primarily on orchestral arrangements. I already have a few Metroid NES ones lined up in my head, so....
Well, I also joined because musically, I've been in a rut, and maybe being amongst other musicians might help me break out. I loves the OCR, and I hope to become a somewhat active member here!
Sorry for the long read.
Jack Polo
12-10-2009, 04:36 AM
Hey everyone! I'm Rob/Jack Polo, I hail from a small town north of Ottawa, Canada.
My introduction to OCR came this past summer; working at a resort, I had the chance to listen to these ReMixes while strolling through the woods on my breaks, it was pretty awesome. Needless to say, I have been constantly coming back for more.
I finally decided to join a few days ago. I have a, uhh... somewhat fairly decent? musical background, so I intend to, one day, try my hand at ReMixing.
Buuut until then, I'm perfectly fine with just sitting back and listening to the sweet, sweet sounds that everyone else has to offer! :-P

I never noticed this thread when i joined. I'm still a newbie though so i'll say hi.
HAI
My name's Johnny. I live in Scotland. I'm 20 years old and my birthday is on 9/11 (aren't i lucky). I'm studying music at college which covers MIDI, live performance, theory etc. Really enjoying it. I'm an epic Sonic fan so if anyone needs a good conversation about the series then they should talk to me. I love all Nintendo series among other games. I am a mod on the site www.tweeaks.com/forums. If you like graphics and game talk then you should go there. I have no interest in graphics or making sigs but i really enjoy it there, mainly because it's not a huge community, so you get to know the people a lot better and they're all really cool. Plus it doesn't have any big restrictions when it comes to customising sigs, and you get your own ava and stuff. It makes you feel more individual.
I love OC ReMix. I found it randomly on Last FM and discovered the Project Chaos album. It really blew my mind. I'd like to make my own remixes but i'm not sure where to start, so any help there would be much appreciated. My favourite remixers would be Sixto and SnappleMan. They just do my kind of music, me being a metalhead and all :P
So hopefully i'll enjoy my time here and will submit a remix in the near future.
Peace out <3

Well, I guess this is my obligatory first post as a newbie.
My name's Thomas, and I'm from Canada. I've been downloading and listening to remixes on OCR since shortly after it began and have never been anything but a casual lurker around these parts. I've also posted on and off at the Minibosses Message Board for 6 years, as Void.
Anyhow, I've always been interested in making VG remixes, but have only ever made original music. So, hopefully posting here will help to break me out of my shell.

Hello all, I am CJthemusicdude. I am a college student, majoring in Music technology and I hope to someday work in the video game industry designing sound and composing music. I've been a fan of OCremix since I was in grade school and all throughout highschool. And now that I'm in college and really learning about music composition and electronic bric-a-brac I finally am starting to create my own remixes.
I hope to remix video game pieces that are not as well know, I find it much more free and intriguing to remix a piece that hasn't even been turned into a midi yet. Nothing fills me with pride more than figuring out each pitch of each note by ear and transposing video game beeps and bloops into midi form :D.
Anyways, I hope to meet many of you and long live video game music!

Hey there OCR Community.
Been a long time listener, first time posting. Just wanted to drop a line and say hello.
I've had many a great night/drive/experience due to you great musicians out there and I aspire to one day influence someone the way everyone in this community has me.
Finally after setting aside some time of hopefully realizing some dreams, I may be able to do that real soon.
Thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to sharing in your successes and wish you all the greatest futures that you can achieve.

Good morning everybody...DJ Enhancr here from New Jersey. I just returned from Magfest 8 and what a time it was!
I had the pleasure of meeting Larry and attending the kick-ass panel OCRemix had on Saturday afternoon.
I am a 15 yr. Veteran EDM DJ (House, Trance, Techno, etc) and have just about 1 year of amatuer production skill using Acid Pro. I am looking to expand my horizons and create a few vid game rmx's of some of my favorite games.
You can check out some of my work on my Myspace... http://www.myspace.com/atsdjenhancr
My first attempt will be at God of War...cause I just love epics like that...so, we shall see. I am all for working/collabing with others to make things happen. So, hit me up and lets do this...

Hello, I thought I'd take a moment to make my presence known.
I've been listening to OCR for almost as long as the site has been active, I'm a big fan of non-traditional ReMixes, such as McVaffe's Yoshi's Rag, which I believe is now titled "Dinosaur band rehearsal" or something like that.
I am attempting to get into the active side of remixing, not just appreciating. It was about 2 months ago that my brain just started ReMixing game music on its own while I was at work, so I hope to transfer my thoughts into actual sound.
Speaking of Sound, I hold an AS in Sound Arts, so I'm a legitimate Sound Engineer with both live- and post-production experience. I'm an amateur musician, I've played bass in a rock trio, I want to learn guitar, and play piano better as I think it will aid in my composition.
In real life I get paid to do boring things, like work. It's the fun things that I do for free, like do the post-production audio editing and mastering for a local Cable-access Late-night Talk Show called Drinking With Ian (http://www.drinkingwithian.com). It's awesome, I've been doing it for almost three years now, with nearly 50 episodes passing through my ears before broadcast.
Musically, I tend to oscillate between Techno and Metal, some months I just CRAVE Goa Trance, and others I can't get enough Strapping Young Lad et. al. However, the music I will always enjoy is folk music, especially Scandinavian folk music like Frigg and Väsen. I also enjoy the Irish community that's in St. Paul as well as some of the fine French Musette music Dan Newton and his Cafe Accordion Orchestra play in the area.
I hope to bring some of these less-exposed genres into the OverClocked ReMix community, however I don't expect to knock square-pegs into round holes, if you know what I mean. Some music lends itself to specific genres, it takes a good ear to discover the possibilities.
You'll probably see me hanging around in the Workshop WIP threads. I love to talk about music and what makes it work within a song. I've gotten some good feedback to my criticism, which is heartening. I don't like to leave simple, "the guitar sucks" comments, I like to delve deeper to try and get to the meaning behind the sound, and I will gladly talk at length about anything.
I'll see you around.
Cheers,
-Steffen

I have no idea what I'm doing here. I have no interest in video game music, no interest in anime, no interest in remixing, and a general distaste for video games.
Makai, however, informed me that this website had a great community, and because of that, I joined. I guess I'm looking for relatively good general discussions.

This place is a good community if you like those things. If you don't, you're going to get bored fast.

Heya!
Been on this site quite a while, but only just decided to come out of the lurking shroud.
Not much to say about myself really, I fiddle a lot with music in my spare time, but rarely get anything finished. This is my main flaw.
I have a fond knack for turning video game music to the doom metal genre (except with synth, but it's pretty much the same idea, there's probably a name for it somewhere anyway). I find it incredibly fun to tear a sad ballad or a an exciting battle theme into a seven minute pit of dispair and distortion. Dunno why.
Away from the PC, I have fronted a few thrash metal\punk bands in my local area. Nothing better to do than bring the mosh in your spare time. Or something like that.
Not much else to say, except that I have long hair, but you probably guessed that.

Croak! ...I mean, hello!
As you can see, I'm an anthropomorfic frog, so you might deduce that I like mosquitoes and cockroach juice, but there's also a side of mine that likes chocolates and orange juice.
XD Well I really enjoy music in general, and also appreciate some 'light' discussions. Besides looking for help on remixes, I thought I'd also enjoy talking about some random stuff, so I joined in. ^^

Hey all,
I've been lurking around here for oh, three years now. I've recently taken an interest in picking up some remixing of my own (though I've not a musical bone in my body so it will be an interesting journey).
Figured now would be as good a time as ever to finally make an account a post something, so, Hey! You might be seeing me around. Or I might just go back to the front page forever; we'll see.

Hi there!
My username is Kaputnik
I am from Austria so please forgive me if i make some gramatically mistakes i really try to do my best :)!!
so right now i am just an amateur "self- and premade sample around pusher, little FX-effects adder and MIDI-Keyboard-owner (and not able to play it right now)" with the strong urge to improve myself as far as possible!
The software i use is "MagixMusicMaker 16 Premium XXL", and yea i know this is really nothing compared to the professional softwares used on OCR but at the moment i (finacially) cant afford more
Havent done any remixes until now but createt some own songs. I really would apreciate it if i could get some serious (and helpful) comends on my creations (i wont upload them to the site) what to improve and whats already good. As soon as i have done a remix i will upload it (and hope its good enough for the comunity).
At the moment i am on the way to become software engineer in c++ and c# so maybe someday i might upload self made software specially for you  but dont expect this to happen in the next 2 years (like i wrote, i still am on the way to).
in my Spare time i enjoy playing computer and ps3 games like:
Left 4 Dead (speed runs)
Left 4 Dead 2
Battlefield 2
Joint Operations
World of Warcraft (European-German-Server Blackhand, HordeFTW, Orc Ele/Heal Shaman pve, Undead Muti Rogue pvp/arena)
Assassins Creed 2
Mini Ninjas
Tekken 6
Grand Turismo 5
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ace Combat (still waiting for part 6 to appear on playstation 3. goddamn bastards from namco turning away from us sony gamers)
and so on...
thanks 4 reading that far and i hope to read you all soon!

Hi everyone!
I'm sure many newbies say this, but I've been lurking OCRemix since back when the site was still orange. Still a big fan, even though these days I tend to wait for a new bulk torrent rather than download every remix as it appears on the site.
The Robot Master competition (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26822) finally pushed me out of lurkerdom. I'm not sure whether I'll be doing a lot of posting besides voting for that. I guess we'll find out :)

hey, as you can see im Masamune5, im a big fan of all sorts of mideaval, imperial, etc. weaponry, i found this awesome game, chrono trigger, and the game was awesome and i saw frogs/glenns master sword, the masamune and i just flipped out, cuz my friend got a hold of the exact same sword and he spent TONS of cash on it (crafted centuries ago, i think there was like 1800 made or something, says on wikipedia) and so i decided to stck with that username, and then i came across a remix of the final battle of chrono trigger, saw it said OCR, and there was a link in the description to this site, and ive been meaning to register for a very long time, but never got around to it.
my family is very musical so i decided to try and make my own remixes, but if my first ones suck, its cuz im recording and over-recording (dont know the term) from my crappy little keyboard straight into y computer, so bear with me on this, and im looking to be a great follower of this site, and its many great and talented artists

Masamune was a swordsmith
he made swords
I very seriously doubt that your friend acquired a broadsword (which is the kind of sword that Frog uses) bearing Masamune's name seeing as broadswords are very european and Masamune was very japanese
also medieval
anyway welcome I guess, genericname1995

Hey everyone! I'm not exactly sure what to say, this first-post stuff is always awkward for me. =D
Anyway, I've actually been registered for quite a while now, I guess you could say I'm a late poster. I'm a huge fan of the site and its music, so I guess it's high time I contributed something to it myself.
I've been composing and remixing stuff for a few years now and I'm about to send my first submission to the site, so hopefully it'll go OK. =)
My music usually has a soundtrackish vibe to it, but I dabble in a few other genres as well (not very often, though =) ).
Well, that's it, I suppose. =D I'll spare you my life story, if you want to know something you can just ask me, I don't want to force people with my CV! =)

Hi everyone! To clear any confusion of my post title my REAL first post was a remix review and I only just found this thread. Henceforth, I fealt I should introduce myself properly here. I have been listening, DLing, and silently reviewing mixs for almost a half-year now and came across a track that I could not be silent about. Can't remember the title but it was mixed by Sixto and Theory from Romancing Saga. Great rock mix. Anywho, my title is FallenOne (yes, it hurt) but my friends just call me Fallen, no joke either. It's a pleasure to meet you and I am hoping for many more months of great listening and deeper involvment in the site.
P.S. Happy new year and such!

I am ridiculously excited! *She blushes* I've been listening to OC Remixes for about 2 years now, and even the shortlived podcast with PixieTrix and Zircon. Up until now I have been attempting to remix my own song and have about 5 incomplete mixes.
Been composing music since Mario Paint (15 years ago?) and have enough songs written to have published 10 albums. My biggest issue is the lack of formal training and confidence! I'm really excited to be a member of OCRemix, and was estatic when I realized that there is a place to submit my own submissions. :-D
One question- are the custom avatars alotted to only established members? Well off I go to post my first composition for some help! *Crosses fingers* Wish me luck! Thanks!

Custom avatars can be suggested in this thread which Liontamer apparently ignores (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3715). They're not custom in the sense that you can upload anything you want, they're more like additions to the avatar gallery.

Hello. As the name goes, Gladian00b is a twofer. 'Gladiator' and 'n00b' would mean that even though I think I am awesome, I would still suck anyways. Whether it be gaming, music creation, or making a speech, I still suck. And yet, the Gladian00b managed, making somewhat overdone music, and he says he wants to make a set of remixes. Let's see what he's got.
First off, there is only one great computer in his house, which MEANS, it is not his own. Should that be a problem? Yes! because he cannot use that device every time he sees it. He should get his own computer, right? True, but that's when the second problem comes knocking at his door, with an alias of LOW BUDGET. Because he feels deprived, he receives only about a thousand bucks per year. And his siblings of the elders use it for gas money. Dang!
Second, he makes Progressive/Electro House with FL Studio. Is he trying to imitate bLind, you say?! Not exactly. He want's to make Dixieland remixes, too, after he figures out the school's tuba [The school shouldn't be involved in anything except for recording]. He's trying to get his house varied a lot more than average professionals, but they got something he doesn't: The ability to master songs to a top quality. Oh no!
At last, the Gladian00b's speech will finally come to an end. If a Youtube video was made in thanks to this script, it will receive a range of one to two stars, if it get's rated at all. He... is a Linux type of guy. Even though he uses Windows on the computer that isn't his own, he should soon obtain one. And one question he poses to: Should you care if this guy makes music, if so, why?

Enjoy your stay, and remember... if you see any strange puddles, don't touch them. We're still trying to figure out what they are, but we have it down to three possibilities. They're either remnants of remixers who got one too many rejections and had a mental meltdown, gateways to a hellish dimension where being flayed alive is just a way to say hello, or they're from someone who couldn't make it to the bathroom in time.

Hello there, Jetlion speaking,:-P
I’ve been visiting this site for years to listen and donwload lots of great tunes. I always wanted to try doing my own music and only last year i began to put an effort into it. So now here I am, with Cubase 5 on a Mac Book Pro, trying to learn by myself, digging everywhere to find guides and tutorials. By the way, this site and especially Zircon mixing guide is a real gold mine.
Compared to the artists who get their music posted on the main page, i obviously consider myself as a total noob. So, to learn and grow better, i would need feedback from the community here.
Here what i plan to do, and beforehand i would like to ask you if i can do it, if it is not considered rude or anything. See right now I’m working on a little musical piece and i’d like to upload it somewhere here, thus experimented users and musicians here can comment on it and give me pointers about what to improve or change.
Please keep in mind that this in no way is a real remix, it’s not a music i plan to submit to OCremix as it doesn’t respect most of the submission rules. Actually it’s almost a carbon copy of an existing piece (from a videogame of course) that i made as a training ground to familiarize myself with my DAW and the (overwhelming:banghead:) possibilities it offers.
So, is it something I can do? Where exactly should i post it in order to not spam and get feedback?
Thank you for reading and sorry for any kind of grammar or syntax errors, as English is not my native language.
Hope to hear from you soon !
Jetlion
Hi there! comin' to say hello and congratulate all of you for making this site. Hope to be of service to this community in whatever way I can help.

first of all,
what??
Second, it sounds to me like your shooting yourself in the foot with self esteem issues. A more self-positive perspective is how you have the confidence to learn how to get better at anything. Otherwise you will suck at everything with the wrong mentality.
And third, you end with a should we care about your music question. *scratches head*. That in and of itself is self-defeating. Why would you care if other people care about your music? First of all you would have to post your music for anyone to know. Again, i think the question is based in a lack of self confidence.
Why not just post a project and ask for feedback? Nobody needs prepositions of your gear struggles and why it was hard for you to make music. Just do it. Im not trying to be mean, just realistic, and i hope you understand the difference.

Hi,
I'm new here, (duh)
Ive been trying to learn to play the guitar, (im told ive made great progress in the short time ive been playing)
Instruments I have:
electric guitars:3
squire 2 stratocaster
drifter (Gibson les paul copy)
bass
Keyboards:1
kasino
main software:
FL-studio (for guitar distortion and synthesizer effects)
Guitar pro (for tabs and midi editing)
Amplifyer:
Kenwood KR-5030 [things very old, only 100Watts, but its a demon:twisted:] (4 speakers operating pc audio output)
PC build: custom
so, yeah, none of my stuff is really "top of the line" or "newest of the new" or "really expensive" but im sure ill manage.
I hope to remix something some day with what is within my arsenal.
Anyway, here I am, and ill go crawl back under my rock now.
Mr. L
02-17-2010, 12:14 AM
Hello everyone, it's a pleasure to make your (virtual) acquaintance! I'm a long-time lurker / downloader, but I decided it was time to register and say hi!
So, my name's Matthew, and I'm a 27 year old gamer and lover of video game music. I know very, very little about music itself; I just know that I like how some of it sounds. So, any "reviews" I give are usually like "It sounds great!", but still I hope that helps!
For a little over 20 years, I've been playing video games on all kinds of consoles. I started when I was 5; my dad and I beat Super Mario Bros. for the first time, and the rest is history. At the same time, I acquired an appreciation of the music.
It's great to see a vibrant community such as this that brings back cool memories of games back-then and here-now with remixes that, often, make the song even more memorable. ...The fact that I reminisce so much already shows I'm getting old...
As far as my favorite games go, I'd have to say my most favorite "modern-time" game is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. My most favorite "back-then" game is a tie between Super Mario Bros. 3 (Sky World!) or Super Mario World. Pretty much, I'm a Nintendo fan, and I always will be.
Hmm... let's see... while I'm listening to said video game music, I enjoy playing around with a wide array of technologies to build web applications (ASP.NET, PHP, Python, Ruby, you name it), though I'm still at a hobbyist level. Of course, nothing I've built is really far beyond "Insert your name here: "... but unlike music, I can sort of understand some of that terminology. So, if you need someone to code an XHTML 1.0 (or HTML 5) front-end or something, I can try to help you!
That's a bit about me, so rather than turn this into a novel, I'll stop there. If you'd like to see volume 2, I'll have it up at a later time.
With that said, it's great to be here, and I hope to have some cool discussions and what not with everyone!

Hi! My name is Universe-X and I joined about a week ago. Forgot to introduce myself. I am a huge Mario fan. I know almost every game and I've remixed a few of the songs from several games. I am willing to take reqeusts/suggestions for remixes, but I am limited. I remix (currently) with only Mario Paint Composer and I must say I am pretty good at it ;). I am about 14 years and I can't give out my location or name on the internet. I love remixing video game music, so I hope I can contribute to OCR someday!

Howdy everyone and welcome!
@Universe-X
I feel a bit awkward here, as I joined only a few days ago, but it's a pleasure to "meet" you, albeit belatedly. It's great to see another Mario fan. *subliminal message* Go! Green Thunder! *end message* *ahem* I've been playing that series since I was 5... it's been a few years. ;-)
I feel so behind on the times, I didn't even know about Mario Paint Composer until now. I had played Mario Paint a long time ago though...
http://www.unfungames.com/mariopaint/. This program, right?
I'll just have to add learning that to my never-ending list of things to do. But first, I must perfect my drawing of stick men...
Universe-X
02-21-2010, 05:03 PM
That's the one, yep! I've also been playing the series since I was 5, maybe 4. I'm sorry you didn't hear about Mario Paint Composer until now! There are a ton of videos on youtube, and it's MUCH more advanced than the SNES version (5 note per beat limit, unlimited tempo, longer songs, files added for even longer songs, and you're allowed to pick between different sounds, and if you want, you can make you're own sounds!).
You can see some of my Mario Paint stuff in the Workshop thread "My songs". Please check it out! I can teach you how to get back into Mario Paint if you're willing to :-).

Yes you should.
My current arrangement that I'm working on is Gusty Garden. Then I'll do SSBB Main Theme (Virtuoso Piano Sheets), Kirby Super Star Gourmet Race, Sims 2 Main Theme, Mario Party 5 - Start the Dream, and Mario Party 2 Space Land.
Here's a medley on Mario Paint you should definitely listen to (not mine):

hiya, I wouldn't feel too bad,
for the longest time I thought i would never be able to play guitar,
but now im up to doing so.......poorly....but making progress.
good things take time,
take some time, find the instrument that works for you
when you have found what you like, try to play a tune you know,
dont need no lessons to do that ;)
singing humming and whistling even has its place.
in a nutshell, pick something up and play around with it. eventually something will sound good.
i'[d better shut up before I say the wrong thing,
Nice to meet ya. :)

Use some cool remixer that you can find, you could learn the treble and bass clef notes. Those are the basics, and once you learn those, it should be easy enough to make that song. Whatever works for you!

Hello!
I've been aware of OCR for some time now, just never had a chance to really participate in the community. I've done some remixes in the past, but recently I've been really feeling the need to dust off my keyboard and software programs and get back to that feeling of making interesting sounds. That combined with my life-long video game obsession, really seemed like OCR was the best place to start participating.
I'm somewhat linked to OCR already though, as I'm on-staff over at Rainwave (site (http://www.rainwave.cc/)/OCR thread (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16566)) primarily focusing on evaluating and uploading original video game material for the Rainwave station. I'll also be at PAX East, so I look forward to introducing myself there as well.
I already have my eye at contributing to a project here at OCR, so hopefully that pans out. Either way, pleasure to be here!

I'm not a remixer, but I hope to have some fun here as part of the OCR community. :]

Hello, I'm Dj CUTMAN. I've been a long time fan of ocremix, and I've made a few remixes but nothing I was very happy with.
Recently, I was asked to Dj my friend MC Death Bear's (http://www.mcdeathbearblog.com) art show. Having never Dj'd live before, I turned to the music i knew best, my collection of game OSTs and OCremixes. Since then, I've made two mixtapes, and a few original beats.
You can listen to the newest mixtape here (http://soundcloud.com/dj-cutman/dj-cutman-video-game-mixtape-2).
I wanted to say Hi here and see what the community thinks of this kind of DJ thing.
Is anyone else spining this kind of stuff?
I've also made some friends over on 8bitcollective (http://8bitcollective.com), a very rocking chiptune site.
I'd love to see some collabs (or maybe some mashups? :D) between ocremix and 8bc (http://8bitcollective.com).
You can listen to my other mixtape and a few originals on my SoundCloud (http://soundcloud.com/dj-cutman). I'm also on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dj-CUTMAN/293684323197?ref=ts).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This must be my.. what, third account here? (I've abandoned the other accounts because a) I can't access the email addresses those are assigned and b) they don't represent me or my music.)
So, I'm Not a Number, (pka "Neotails8762", pka "28% Will Do Fine") I make music, and in the almost five years since first registering, I'm now a student at a music college.
Softwares I use are Logic Pro (at college - curse my lack of OSX at home) and MTVMG (PS1).
Recent music I've made is a remix of a Sonic Adventure 2 track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpwTVgSXxIY), vocals and all. I'm not very good at singing, but I sing anyway because.

Howdy. Been a hardcore fan of OCR for a while, now, and have lurked around the IRC for about a month as well.
I don't have any real musically-related talent and am kind of a dummy when it comes to the terminology, to be honest, but I've been playing the drums in my school's band for over 5 years, so I can read music and have a pretty good sense of rythm (When I listened to CrashedMen, I felt mentally abused).
I do have modplug tracker though, and the built in midi samples, and have been piddling around with that a little. Nothing worth mentioning yet, though, as I can hardly even recreate a song as simple as CT's Wind Scene. :|
Aside from the actual remixes themselves, my favorite part of OCR is definitely djp's writeups. They're really insightful sometimes, and it's often fun to read the artist and judge quotes. So, sorry if I contribute quite a bit to the bandwidth traffic, hopping around the site and reading all the reviews. :awesome:
Let's see, what else. Oh, yeah, an OCR T-shirt I ordered arrived last week. Now I need to go out and buy a car to show off this awesome bumper sticker!
Anyway, my hobby (essesntially what I spend all my spare time doing while pretending that it's productive) is Super Metroid editing... ROMhacks ahoy. Super Metroid literally defines about 80% of my childhood, so I'm pretty dedicated to it. If anyone's interested, please let me know! I'd love to share my stuff with the OCR community. Although my most recent 'officially' released work is over a year old and is really crappy by my standards at this point (haha, I understand how a lot of the remixers here feel. Brainsick Metal comes to mind. Still love that one, Prot), I've been working on and off for over a year now on my main project, Super Metroid: Tierus, which I keep under a big white veil, and in full private development. I'm a little more lax about my other projects, though. For instance, I'm working on a mini-hack that I've simply named Super Metroid: Up. Althouhg terribly short, it's the best I can offer to anyone to play at this point. I might be releasing a demo soon.
...Sorry, I'm rambling.
Nice to meet you all!
Edit: Wow, I just realized that the threads read backwards compared to most forums. I paused a minute and said, "Wait. Mine isn't the first post... wtf!?"
Hahaha. Cool
Edit deux: Oh, I almost forgot. I was going to take a minute and name some of my favorite artists. The order is unrelated to favor. Let's see...
Sixto Sounds, zircon, Star Salzman, bLiNd, LuIzA, DrumUltima, pixietricks, Christian Pacaud (these past people have especially amazing work), McVaffe, Darkesword, Disco Dan, NoppZ, goat, Prophecy, Protricy, Suzumebachi, djpretzel, Shnabubula (did I get that right...? Whatever. DUELING CONSOLES, MAN. HOLY.), Sir NutS, Hale-Bopp... I can't think of any more, and going through Shuffle on OCR isn't jogging my memory, so I guess that's it.
These are all people whose music I consistently love and enjoy on OCR. Your work is really great; please keep it up!

As explained by someone in one of the last pages of that thread, Larry's the one doing it, and he has his own standards for what passes as a good avatar and what doesn't. Go back to around page 80 there (20 pages back from the newest post) and you'll see blue LT comments on the posts. Haven't been any of that in a while tho. Thing is, avatars aren't really a priority.
Bring this discussion to the avatar thread if you wanna keep at it, let's leave this threads for newbie introductions and first questions and stuff. :D

Hey OC, I just joined here. I've been a fan of OCRemix music for a long time; it's filled up nearly half my iPod. I listen to the music almost daily, in my car, at work, and when I'm chilling on my computer.
I've decided to join now because I plan on making music as part of my life and I'd like to join the community which I felt made one of the biggest influences in my love for music. I've been a musician for many years and I've just started to get into music composition using software. I've purchased FL Studio and hope to make the best out of it. Perhaps someday I'll have some songs good enough to be in the OCRemix collection.

Hey guys, I'm new to OCremix and just downloaded a bunch of stuff today!
I wanted to join the community because I just went through my first quarter of an electronic music class and did my first video game project.
I'm still in my newb stages but plan to continue growing and hopefully make a career out of this (or at least make professional sounding stuff in my free time)
Although it's nothing special, here is a link to where you can download the music I made for my friends video game he made for a class. http://rapidshare.com/files/359018220/SoS.zip.html
I did it in my spare time (with a lot of other school work and job-work to do as well) so it's not as good as I would like it to be. But I plan on improving it. :)!!

My name is Flam1n90 F1ght3r, and to others I'm known as Sovereign(The name was taken, as it was my first choice). I'm a big fan of OCReMix, as I love listening to the many styles of Mixers. I use quite a few of the Mixes from here, placing them in my Brawl Music List.
Being a newbie, I've come here with a great request for anyone willing to take it on. I'll post it in the proper thread, so I'm not spamming or anything.
I'll do my best to stay active. I honestly want to learn how to ReMix, as well, so that I can express my style and love of music, through other soundtracks.

I'm a Bay Raver, Massage therapist, Music Fanatic, Hardcore gamer and Newb synther. I have Reason 4.0 (With a comprehensive guide / the idiot's guide to music theory), A MicroKorg Synthesizer/Vocoder, And a brand new Laptop. I'm an avid music collector and a final fantasy fanatic. Seems strange that only now after so many years I would think to look for a combination of the two. Regardless, here I am and I think this is the place I want to begin my musical career.
Brief Bio:
Been out of high school for three years. Was a mathlete, choir and drama nerd, and played many sports. I got sick of school fast though and started failing out, but managed to get myself through to a diploma. Afterwards I gave the finger to school, got a few jobs here and there, and went raving like a madman. I did, in the midst of this, get certified as a massage therapist and will use that as a crutch for my musical focus.
At this point I am finally ready to buckle back down and make life happen. I'm getting back into school (finally because I want to). I'm turning my attention to music in any way possible while maintaining other windows of opportunity and hopefully I'll be able to use remixing as a way to learn how to create my own tunes.
I'm here to learn. I'm here to find wonderful music. I'm here to be a part of something. I'm excited to get to know some of you. I already respect the hell out of many of the mixers I've heard so far. Can't wait to see if I can contribute to this great site.

Well, i'm absolutely blown away after checking this site out for my first time today. I checked all of Sixto's stuff then Level 99 and co's Ecco cover and I shat everywhere. I've been on this extreme video game music binge lately and Powerglove, Vomitron and Ultranomicons music was all I had to let this tension out and now I have dozens of songs more, thanks! lol.
I've been playing guitar for about 6+ years now and am pretty fluent to say the least. I've never checked out recording or ever had good gear. (Bugera 333xl with a 4x12 marshall cab, ibanez 350dx w/ emg 81/85 combo) but I had purchased an interface awhile ago (tascam us122 mkII) and I have cubase 5 with some vst plugins (peavey revalver III) and can never get a nice tone. My recordings are crap and there's tons of fuzz from the amp sims. How do you guys get such great recordings?
Anyways, thanks for reading my introductory, looking forward to stickin' around.

Hi! Welcome! Glad you dig the stuff here! If you're looking for help with recording and whatnot, check out the Workshop (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42)section of the forums, specifically the Music Composition & Production (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12) area.
Despite being a little outdated, Sixto actually did a guide on getting good guitar tone for free, which you can check here:
http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14222
Personally, it depends on the method you want or intend to record the guitars. You can do it with direct input from the guitar itself and do everything in post with the amp sims. You can use a direct effects box, like a multi-effects processor or a stompbox board, and then mess with the post processing effects as you see fit. Or you can record your amp'd setup through mic's and just do compression and reverb on the recording.
I'm pretty sure that this will get moved to the workshop section anyway, but definitely read Sixto's guide before anything else.

Ah, you wouldn't recommend doing a direct line in for a good sounding recording wouldcha? Someone recommended me getting some mics and micing up my amp but it would destroy my funds lol.
Was thinking of getting something like a pod xt then running that for tone, not sure yet that would be future future haha. Thanks for the response.

Either way works. Seems like you already have good enough gear for mic recordings, so you could probably just do that. I personally use Pod XT direct-in and it's been my favorite tool for a long time. Either way, good luck!

Either way works. Seems like you already have good enough gear for mic recordings, so you could probably just do that. I personally use Pod XT direct-in and it's been my favorite tool for a long time. Either way, good luck!
I'm starting to also think that something like a Pod would be a great tool, especially for computers like mine that can't run more than 1 instance of a plugin
My only gripe is that you can't change your tone after the fact, you would have to re-record the part with a new tone through the pod

I made a post all ready without coming here. ^_^"
Well I'm Bloodeyezack (you all can use my real name too if want too) I have a lot of stuff made up in my head but I haven't tried making anything yet, but I have been reading through the Linplug Free Alpha manual trying to understand its mechanics better
I'm 18 years old (19 on the 29th of April :P), and currently unemployed, in collage, and trying to make something of myself. I have been playing video games sense I was like four. :P and I have always had a passion for VG music, I always though "what if Mega Man didn't have such epic music would it still be one of peoples favorite game?" I hope I'll be able to understand and make music of my own.

Hi. Well, I'm Gamma 32... I found this website after reading an article in Nintendo Power about an album you guys made... I'd really like to try my hand at making a remix, but there's two problems:
1. My computer is very bad for doing things other than being on the Internet and
2. I don't own any mixing -ware, neither Hard- nor Soft- Also, I'm 13 so I might just get bored with it. But Hopefully not. I have a few ideas for when I get a new computer and the right tools...

Hello, ReMixers (and fellow n00bs). My name is Chroxic (you can call me Nick if you think that's one weird-ass name) and I've been following OCR since early high school. I'm now a freshman in college (notice the post time of 3:00 AM) and I'm hoping to start training myself in the fine art of ReMixing. As far as musical experience goes, I've only sliced, diced, and spliced loops in ACID and Soundtrack Pro / GarageBand. I haven't done much in FL Studio yet but I am optimistic about the potential of such a freakin' awesome program.
Please be sure to offer me as much criticism (preferably constructive) as possible!

Hey guys. I've lurked around the forums for a few days and decided to join. I know nothing about how to make music or remixing songs from video games so I hope to just pick knowledge here and there around the forums. Unfortunately I have no musical instrument skill either but I will be picking up a keyboard in the near future. I go on deployment in a few months so I would like to get my feet wet before then so I can make music in my free time. Look forward to chatting and working with you all in the future.

Hi all, I've posted music here before but I thought I'd post an introduction as I have a website now that I can point people to. My name is Jared, I'm a composer who loves video game music and never passes up an opportunity to write some! I currently attend graduate classes while doing music/sound editing on the side, always looking for new people to talk to about game music. You can check out my website here: www.jaredcowing.com
Any feedback on the website (it's new so there are some kinks to work out!) and on the music itself would be much appreciated! I check this site periodically and can also be reached by email at JaredCowing@gmail.com
By the way, is everyone aware of the video games live concert coming up on PBS sometime in July? My good friend will be in it as Flute Link, be sure to check it out, it sounds like it will be awesome!

have i ever told you how much i incredibly hate having music play upon loading a web page? i think i'm not alone, too.
i checked your website because i figured you must have gone to school at IC if you knew Laura Intravia. i'm a current grad student there (about to graduate, actually), and someone showed me that video a while back.

Hiya, all. As my username indicates, I would be AllanAokage; it's a nigh-universal handle, so some may recognise it from elsewhere. That's doubtful, though.
I've once visited back in early 2009 (or thereabouts), to have a look at the Final Fantasy VII remix album. I had a luck at some of it, then wandered away for some time. Upon being linked to a few tracks (namely, Fire Cross and Terra in Black), I decided to lurk the forums for some time.
And now I've signed up and intend to become a regular poster. Fun~
Having trouble with the interface, though. It's weird to have the new posts at the "beginning of the topic," with the older ones being further back XD; I'll get used to it, however~

Hello, my username is JWDragair which someone may or may not have heard of before. It's a unique name that fashioned for myself out of my first three initials and an army from the old Dragons toys.
Anyway, I'm an avid musician and have been for several years, playing mainly jazz and swing. I've known about this site for many years now, but only recently have I decided to become seriously active. I'd love to be a remixer, but honestly I just don't have the equipment for it.
So, if anyone has the need for a saxophone player who talks to much and has way too much time on his hands, let me know. Oh, and thanks to all the remixers here at OCR, you've kept me entertained for a very long time now :)

Hi, I'm Low Phi (pronounced lofi) and I work in an underground electronic group from where I live (Phils.) and I represent our group in this forum. So, you'll probably hear some work from my group and also my personal mixes. To know more about our music, just check our myspace and youtube sites sometime:

I specialize in game remixes and mashups (combination of two or more songs into one) and doing remakes of classic games as well. I do well on certain game developers--preferrably in the RPG or 2D Fighting genre.
Hope to work and spend a great time in this place!!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

i really liked some of the OCR works, like the Doom 2 remix album, so i decided to join.
I'm studing piano and composition lately and i'm a good synth player and producer... you can ear some of my tunes on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/nicolapisanti)
i play synths in a metal band too, the "Deus X Makina" (http://www.myspace.com/deusxmakina)
i hope to make some good remixes for OCR in the future =)

04-19-2010, 03:20 AM
First off, I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who has submitted something musical here at OCRemix as the tunes I find here always seem to stay right near the top of playlist no matter what. Second, my name is Aurebesh as you might have guessed. It's the same name I use all over the net, so there's a 80%-90% chance it's me if you see the name used elsewhere.
While I'm afraid that I'm not very talented when it comes to playing an instrument, I do have an ear for music and can usually plunk something out on the piano after hearing it once or twice. I'm also a tenor/baritone voice, and can possibly even reach the alto range if necessary. If you need another singer for a project (or possibly even a lyricist), just let me know.
I'm looking forward to seeing what all is released by y'all in the upcoming years. Keep up the amazing work!

Anyway I'd like to become a tad more involved in OCremix then my one post so far. I've got a single song up and at the moment considering another but not sure yet.

Click on the "User CP" link near the top of the page on the left (it's under the forum name), click on "Edit Options" along the left side of the new screen and scroll down to "Thread Display Mode." Select "Linear - Oldest First" and then click on "Save Changes" at the bottom. That'll fix it for you.
Oh, and don't forget to type in the answer to the anti spam question near the top of that same "Edit Options" menu before you save any changes.

04-27-2010, 10:01 PM
Hello everybody, I am TMF128.
I have actually been working remixes for several months now. A few of them turned out quite well.
I have played around with techno/electronic, but it only turned out okay. I am better in the rock/metal area though. Guitar is my best instrument, and I plan to use it often from now on. I choose the genre for a remix based off what I naturally feel it should be (my metal stuff will probably turn out better though.)
Expect some more stuff from me soon, I just need a Line 6 Pod XT Live so I can record guitar and bass. There are about 5 remixes I have waiting, but they won't be finished until I get at least a guitar part in it.
Anyway, I am glad to be on this website. I hope I learn a lot here.
Here is something I made that is worth listening to:

Hello everyone,
First, I must apologize for never introducing myself before. I'm pretty shy, even on a web forum. Go figure.
Alright, so. My name is Ramon, and I've been a lurker for about 5/6 years.I've always had the desire to become a member of the OCReMix community, but I could never get myself to go through with it. So, a few months ago I finally decided that it was time for me to at least try instead of sitting back and wondering "if". And here we are.
I hope that, even if I never get anything posted, I can help others improve their work.
Cheers.

Hello everyone!
I'm Leo, from Uruguay, yes URUGUAY.
I ended up here after reading about OCRemixes in various places.
I really love VG music, though I'm not any music expert (I'm more into graphic design) I enjoy listening and feeling the music in the games.
I believe it's not just about the music, but the relation between the music and the game itself, that makes it so memorable and enjoyable.
Usually my favourite VG OSTs come from SEGA/CAPCOM games. Starting by JSR, trough the NiGHTS, to Gyakuten Saiban.
So that's about it, hope you liked this little introduction, and I guess you'll see me around praising the remixes I like.

My name is Amber Vasami. I've been into video game music since the middle of 2007. I discovered this site sometime in 2008 and began downloading ReMixes in early 2009. At first, I only downloaded mixes from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but I eventually moved on to other games. If a game, any game, has good music, I'll come here and search for ReMixes. I probably have over 100 songs from this site on my hard drive.
I'm not a ReMixer, but I have actually tried imagining what certain game tracks would sound like being done in certain styles, like the Wily Stage 1 theme from Mega Man 2 being done hip-hop style.

Hey, I'm Gerbil. I've know about this site for a while, and have always wanted to join but just couldn't bring myself to do so until today. Music and video games are my two favorite things, so I hope that I can get along with people here. Also, I'm a musician, and I'm interested in remixing. I've never done any remixes though, I usually write original pieces. I do most of my work in Reason, but I've been known to pick up things pretty quickly.

TransSonic: Have you ever tried doing anything with the song ideas? If not I would recommend downloading a demo of FruityLoops Studio or Reason and trying to do something with it. Who knows? You might be good at it.
Gerbil: What genre of music do you prefer to do for the most part? And could you link me to some of your work? I'd like to hear.

Hi!
I'm Sleepy Dream.
I love music, and I love video games, so it's no wonder I really love video game music. I discovered this site several years ago, but only recently have had time to properly browse through the music. At the moment my downloads folder is swamped by mp3s downloaded from here waiting for me to put them in the right folders and listening them with thought and care :)
Perhaps one day I'll do remixes of my own, that has been a thought going in my head recently, and I'll propably try something once I get a good synthetisizer. But that will take some time.
That's all for now, I'm happy to be here :)
(Oh, and if my writing looks funny at times or I write something a bit oddly, it's because I'm not a native English speaker ^^ I try my best to write good English ^^ )
Welcome, Sleepy Dream! Don't worry about your English, music is the universal language. We have members from all over the world, so we're guaranteed to have at least someone from the same place. :)

Welcome to the community, Sleepy Dream! It's good to have you here. :-)
And to be quite honest, I couldn't tell in the slightest that you weren't a native-born English speaker... and I spend a large portion of my time fixing people's grammar, so that should tell you something. So I wouldn't worry too much!

Glad to finally be here on the forums. Though I absolutely love the work done here and music itself, my artistic skills themselves are horrible.
In a naive hope to correct that, here I am, fresh to start bombing the forums with newbie-questions so horrible, most of you will probably get a heart attack.
In any case, thanks for having me (at least, this far), and hello again to one and all.

Hi, Ouguiya, hi zneoson. Welcome to ocr. :D
We've had our fair share of dumb, ill considered, already answered newbie-questions. You'd have to try hard to outdumb them. Music making questions goes in Workshop (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12), site questions here (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36), and just about any other question belongs here (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18).
We remixers love hearing about how our works move ppl, most of us probably like it more than we like to hear how technically competent we are. ;)

Hello everyone, my name is Moisei "Sei" Frolov my nationality is Russian. I've been downloading OC Remixes ever since its inception but never was part of the forums. I do appreciate the site very much though, some amazing music and talent here.
My whole life i wanted to be involved with music, but my family was never one to be open to musical ideology, so i never really got around to getting my studio until now. Now that i have finally set up my studio for the most part, one of the first things I wanted to do is remix a song for OC Remix, and learn everything I can from the feedback to better myself.
I have already submitted my first entry, I don't know if it ill make it through, but ill post a mink here just in case you guys and gals want to give me some advice or pointers. Keep in mind though that i just recently set up my studio so I am quite new at this, but I hope some of my remixes will help and entertain others as much as the previous remixes on OC Remix have me.
I will try and contribute as much as I can. Heres a link to my first attempt at an OC Remix, I hope you guys like it lol.
http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/18551482/file.html
The way i like mixing is that i believe simplicity comes first, sorta like David Guetta and his minimalistic approach to music. Less is more I say.
And I know my mixes are not the greatest in the world, but my plan is to make them the greatest in the world ;) with time and practice of course.
I use Ableton Suite 8 along with a host of VSTi's and VST's. If you guys or gals have any questions just e-mail me at vodkaproductions@gmail.com .
Also im in the process of starting my company Vodka Studios, doing everything from recording bands to making my own music. But I love video games and I love video game music, so I definitely want to contribute here a lot  .

Hello, my name is Moisei "Sei" Frolov, I've been downloading OC's since the sites inception, but was never able to begin remixing because my family is not too musically inclined and consequently i never bought studio gear 'til a couple months back. Anyway my nationality is Russian, and I also submitted my first song, I have no idea if it will be accepted but I like it.
My style is fairly simple, kinda like David Guetta, less is more I say. I love video games and I love video game music, and I absolutely love remixing and making it. I look forward to getting to know all you in the forum, since before I never really came here before. I am starting a production company called Vodka Studios soon as well. I'll be doing everything from recording bands to making my own stuff to everything I can basically.
If anyone has any questions just ask ;)

Hello!
My name is Chris Geehan, I'm a music student for another week, before I finish my Honours Degree in Music and am set free into the world of self-employment. Good times! I hope.
I'm one half of a music composing team called HyperDuck Music Studios (http://hyperduck.co.uk), the other half being Dan Byrne-McCullough. We wrote music for a game called Iji, we have since decided to learn how to produce, compose, mix, record, etc, whatever we do, and have managed to be the sound & music, behind last years Dream Build Play grand prize winner ($40,000 and a XBLA publishing deal), Dust: An Elysian Tail (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR7vE6l1MN0). We are also the music and sound behind this years Dream Build Play first prize winner ($20,000 and a XBLA publishing deal), A.R.E.S (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9XiG61lqpw old trailer).
We're involved in lots of other fun projects with Indie Game Developers, so a fair bit of it can be tracked on our website. I have always wanted to join the community properly and get stuck in with trying remixes and learning from you lovely bunch about your own techniques and what not. Also just to have a bit of banter and good craic about the boards, since it seems lively from the outside :). Anyway, I'm done lurking as of next week when I do my final exam, so I just wanted to drop a line and say i'll be staying for the long haul.
Nice to be here!

Hallo,
I'm halfway migrating from Game Music Affiliates, as a transcriber / arranger. I use Finale '09 as my primary software, and I expect to get Cubase if it turns out I really like remixing. I've played the piano for almost 4 years now, and I really enjoy playing just about anything.
I've got a pretty critical mind when it comes to music theory and what game music should sound like, but I'll be fair when evaluating others work here, and I won't mind taking advice and criticisms when I start submitting.
Thanks in advance!
Oh and my website is here (I haven't updated recently): http://sites.google.com/site/wazkatango2/

I'm not very talented in music, but perhaps one day...with some practice, I'd make a decent remixer. I have followed this site, since...OCR had a blue background...must have been...2001-2002 ish. DJ Pretzel has impressed me with his work on this site over the years. As well as his talent, devotion and success.
About myself, well...I have quite a bit of experience testing games...debugging them, suggesting improvements...I went to college for this...I was never good at developing games from the ground up.
I'm the webmaster of http://www.inspiredclan.com a Priston Tale 1 (MMORPG hosted by subagames) on Valento Server. I lead a very successful clan there (imo) complete with Vent and forums. If anyone is interested or wants more info, please pm me here on these forums or simply message me in game there.
DJPretzel was one of my inspirations for creating my own site...its about a month old, but everything is a work in progress.
Thanks for reading.

I've never heard of this game before, maybe you should spend some time and tell people what it is and why we might want to play.

This is essentially a "Hi, I'm new post!" so I've merged it into the appropriate thread.
If you'd like please go ahead and make a general thread about the game Priston Tale, but please refrain from only recruiting for your own clan.
Welcome to OCR forums. Please leave reviews for remixes. :350:

Hey what's up! I was doing some googling and ended up here. I'm a metal musician guy who's done a few Genesis music remixes. Looks like there's a lot to this place so I decided to register, take some peeking around, and hopefully end up being one of my main hang outs. *waves*

Hello people nakamura here, real name is Martin. I have been a long time fan of this site and have many tracks from it's members.
I haven't downloaded anything from the site for almost 2 years since becoming a father, life is rather hectic but I accidently stumbled across an artist called Willrock and was reminded of the quality of the music here.
I am a producer myself, I will pop my tunes up in the right forum. I am no musician mind, it is all just for fun and I have never done a remix of a game. Maybe I will try sometime.

There's a story behind our names. I'm about to be 20 now and Philippe is 22.
We first talked when I was 12 and he was 14, on Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.
We first met in real life 7 years later (it's a crazy story since he lives far)
Because we realized a passion for both music and video games.
To date we remixed two songs : Battletoads and Double Dragon : Stage 1
And Megaman X : Storm Eagle.
We will send them soon.

I've run into some people from D2 (even a few québécois).. but in my online gaming history I don't have any stories nearly as great as that one.

Hello all, I've been on this site somewhat frequently the last year or so and after checking out Chaos Project here and been blown away by the potential of Video Game Remix music (seriously, that album kicks so much ass), I thought I'd check out the forums. I would really like to have a go at remixing myself but I really need to get money for some decent gear so I can then in turn build my compositional skills properly. I also play guitar, bass, piano yada yada no-one cares. :P
docnano
06-19-2010, 05:08 AM
I'm Alex (Doc Nano), my name stemming from the fact that I do research in nanotechnology. It probably sounds cooler than it is, but I have to admit I do love my work! Other than science, my passions are linguistics/language and music, game music being a large part of the latter.
I'm a long-time downloader and, after recently getting a decent synth, am only just now getting into making remixes of my own. Actually, I hadn't checked the site regularly in a few years, and I'm very impressed with how the remixes have matured.
Anyway, I'm interested in collaborating with anyone who needs compositional or piano/keyboard skills. I'd also like to team up with a vocalist at some point (got some ideas brewing), but come to think of it perhaps there's another place in the forums for this...
CodeD64
06-19-2010, 02:32 PM
I'm an old school gamer, started out on atari, c64 and amiga. I actually started programming when I was only six years old but its always just been a hobby of mine.
I used to contribute to the c64 cracktro/intro/demo scene as well. I used to go by the scene name CodeD and CodeD64.
I've been DJing at clubs and mobile gigs since 2000 in Hawaii and have been steadily and working on my production skills as well. I currently use Acid, FL Studio and Ableton Live to produce and I'm a VST junky as well. I'll be back in Oahu later this year.
I make my own original music as well as remixes/mashes mostly in electronica, techno, trance, house, breakbeat and industrial.
Lately, I've also been working on new original chiptunes using MadTracker, an old school tracker with new school functionality.
I still love old school video games and still play a lot of NES. IRL I'm a TV/Radio Reporter & Producer. Music, DJing and Programming are hobbies for me.
All my life people told me I should have pursued a Computer Science degree but I do it for fun and wouldn't want to make a job out of it and end up with a menial programming job or at the mercy of the fickle video game industry.
You can check out a few of my recent tunes here:

Hello. Im a 30-something year old bloke living in the North East of the England.
Im a Bedroom DJ who uses Serato Scratch so I can mix MP3's off my PC with my decks.
Done a couple of 8-bit/chiptune dj mixes for my YouTube channel. Downloaded a load of songs from OCRemix and was staggered by the quality. Top notch stuff :0)
Intend to get round to trying my hand at doing my own remix but it's just one of the many things on my "to do" list.

Hello, I'm Yoder. Nice to meet you all finally. I've lurked around this site for about 7 years now, and I decided it was about time I joined the community. I can't promise I'll be too active (especially since I'm not a remixer) but I'll be around when I can be.

Hello, My name is Daniel, and I am a newbie. I've been playing musical instruments since I was 4 (God, I loved that piano...), and games since I was 5.
SNES and N64 forever, though I love Metal Gear Solid. I'm working on my first remix (yay), and I hope I can create one that suits the quality of OCR.

Welcome to our new n00bs! I just realized a disturbing trend: 9 out of 10 n00bs that actually post in this thread seem to have less than 25 posts still...and this thread goes back a LONG ways.
No excuses to be lurkers. n00bs: make us proud.

Hey, just dropping in to introduce myself...I've known about this site for the longest time, like in the back of my head, but I never actually used it. My brother use to bring out his ipod to show me remixs of VG music from musicians from time to time(long time ago), but I was busy doing my own thing, especially with music.
At some point, I got a request from someone to make my rendition of a sonic the hedgehog song, and since then; as far as music is concerned, I have further plunged into my gaming side of myself when it comes to the music in the game.
My mixes range from NES to Genesis, even to current gaming consoles.
When I take a break from my original music, I'd make my version, and share it with my circle of gamer friends. I have a lot now, and they aren't doing anything else on my harddrive, so as soon as I can figure out the submission process, I'll start submitting tracks, see what people think on my mixed versions.
see you guys around. Peace

echo "Hello world!"
So yeah, hello everyone. I'm nub to the forums, but I've been a frequenter of OCR for a long time. Props to JJT for "Enter the Frog", as it is the song that originally drew me into this site. I know comments on remixes are supposed to be detailed and all, but I'm not really an authority on this topic (yet?).
I'm looking forward to posting and whatnot, it's been a while since I've seen an active board that I was interested in. My initial thought is to start learning about remixing, but I don't even play any instruments. Which brings me to my first question: There are a number of tutorials out there, where should I start?
And of course, thanks to everyone for sharing your talents and skills with me and my friends. Jamming OCR has never let us down!

Sweet! Thanks!
I had snooped around and found a guide that helped someone get started with mixing without spending any money (obviously if I dig it I'll have to invest). I can't find it anymore! Also, do I need to have some sort of instrumental talent to even consider, or does my quad-core suffice?
