Alestance
10-17-2011, 03:42 PM
Hello!
I go by Alestance on the interwebs. I've been writing music for a very short time, and have no real professional music training. I've come here because the style I've developed while learning seems to be influenced from classic music from the 8 and 16 bit era console games, with a bit of 80s pop and rock.
I write at least one song every day, usually experimenting, not always top quality work, but I strive to improve with each song. Granted I am incapable of remixing all that well, or playing instruments.

What's up?
I'm BLen! I play in a band called Fish Hook, and have been a fan of OCR since Serious Monkey Business. Huge fan of chip tune and ska music! Very excited to be apart of this incredible community.

Hey there, this is David from germany. After many years of browsing through the tons of remixes here I finally decided to take a look into the forum and join.
I'm not a remixer myself and when it comes to "creativity" am more into the field of graphics (esp. 80s-style Logo designs, hehe) but hope this is ok
Besides music and graphics I'm very much into all eighties related and still living to some degree in my childhood days full of cartoons, videogames, action toys etc. (GI Joe and MotU mainly).
Ok, guess that's all for now. See/Read you later...
ShadTK
10-28-2011, 08:12 PM
Gentlemen.
My name is Marcos, but I prefer to be called ShadTK. I'm from Brazil, Săo Paulo.
I've met ocremix a long time ago, subscribing on the youtube channel. I don't remember when I subscribed, but I like most of the musics you guys do.
Speaking of music, I've aways been a video game music enthusiast. There's no better feeling in the world then listening to a track while watching a fitting situation, and god does videogames know how to bring this feeling up.
Overall, I love earthbound, sonic, touhou, metroid, zelda, patapon, as well as many other series, and the biggest reason for me to love most of them is their soundtracks. For me, if I'm forced to play a game without it's original soudtracks(both music and SFX), i'd rather not play it at all.
I'm still in need of playing chrono trigger tough. The game have amazing soundtracks, but I never got enough time to play it.
Unfortunatly, this is both my pride and my sine, as I tend to stay a LOT of time listening to VGM and tend to ignore more "popular" music. I find myself ignoring many important pieces, from classic works of bethoven to "popular" band works of these days such as metallica, because of my preference to the VGM's. It's pretty obivous that I have some trouble on general music conversations, as I can't keep up with anything that haven't been introduced to me by videogames.
Speaking of bands, favorite here is Crush 40.
I play piano/keyboard since I have 5 years old, but I stopped at the age of 9. After almost 10 years, I picked up an old keyboard, and here I am playing it again. I'm learning how to play a trumpet for my main "air-based" instrument, and I'm thinking of getting a cello as main chord instrument. And i'm wondering if I should be taking some basic drum classes just to get the hang of drum patterns, as well as some singing classes, but nothing really serious.
I don't have a clue on how can I compose using the bread'n butter softwares (guitar pro, cubase, flstudio), and to make the matter worse, my keyboard have no midi output (it's THAT old), so I gotta learn at the hard-mouse way. Currently, I'm experimentating with FL studio, but as I said, I'm clueless on how to use the program.
Sound mixing and mastering sounds fun, but as I said, I have absolutely 0 knowedge on this area. So basically, I'm all kinds of new.
Hope I can contribute with the forums, learn a lot, and make great stuff. As well as help someone when I'm able to.
That said, hello everybody!
Hello, I'm Gono, I found a lot of incredible remixes on this site and well as I've composed a bunch of songs by myself, I decided to give it a try remixing some videogame tracks which I'll be sharing for everyone to enjoy. That's it.. and here I am enjoying this great forum!
:)
Hi, my name is KM. Long time fan, first time poster. I've been listening to OCremixes since about song 150 and even tried to do my own remixes at one point, before I was really adept at making songs. Hopefully I can back into trying to get a remix of mine on the list, and cross that off my bucket list of things to do in life.
I've been playing guitar for about 9 years, composing for 11 and I've been enjoying video game music for about 25. When I couldn't have the sound turned up too loud on the TV, I would hum entire soundtracks like Final Fantasy and Super Mario 3 to myself as I'd play, because I enjoyed them that much.
My favorite soundtracks are Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, FF6, Terranigma.
Currently I run a website devoted to promoting Indie video game music that's called TIG Tunes (http://www.tigtunes.com/). It hasn't seen much success from the smaller time indie dev communities, but I hope I can find more of an audience here at OCRemix, since you guys definitely know how to appreciate video game music. :D
So, nice to meet you guys and all. Hopefully I can supply you with some excellent tunes.

Hey everyone,
I've been active on here since September, but didn't really notice this thread until recently. So to those who haven't seen any of my posts, hi and glad to be here.
I've been listening to music from OCR on and off for a few years. More recently, like within the past 2 years, I've been coming here daily to check for new remixes and albums, and occasionally lurk on the workshop forum. I was interested in actually making music for a while, but decided to take the plunge and get serious only within the past couple months, well aware of the massive learning.
As for my music making experience, I first used FL Studio for a digital music class back in the winter/spring of 2009. My song for that class was a pretty terrible techno song. Since then, I experimented with the demo version on and off, until I decided to buy the real thing. I've stuck with FL Studio ever since.
I feel like I've improved even in such a short amount, but without some awesome advice from the really helpful community, I wouldn't have gotten far. For anyone who is struggling to get started here, check out this thread that I started to ask for help: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36856. Also check out this awesome guide by Rozovian: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33049.
My advice, no matter what program/instrument you use, is to just make tons of projects, no matter how terrible they may be. Work on projects until you get bored and/or frustrated, then move on to a new one, or go back to an old one, you might have new ideas/skills as you progress. You will start to establish a work flow, and your music will slowly improve (hopefully ). Even if after multiple projects you still aren't satisfied with how your music sounds, don't give up and stay positive. You will eventually make a project that you're happy with. Remember: do not quit and just keep working. Also, listening to other people's works-in-progress and reading comments about them is incredibly useful and will help you get better. You should try to give people feedback as well, regardless of your experience level. People always appreciate feedback, as long as you don't act rudely.
I hope my advice helps out newcomers, and maybe even some veterans.

Yo! The name's SoundSouldier. I've been learning the guitar and have always loved good VGM and a lot of the remixes on this site. So I said what the heck and joined. I hope to one day contribute some note worthy remixes and such. And wish to be a part of the community!

Hello!
I've always been a fan of the music here that my brother (also a member here) has showed me, just awhile ago I decided I'd finally register and try to get involved. He just introduced me to the basics of some music studio software and I've been following tutorials where I can find to figure what I can.
I really love music, the only experience I actually have writing it comes from playing LittleBigPlanet on PS3 that has a weak Midi sequencer in game where I wrote some -- what I thought to be -- decent songs. I got some good feedback in game about what I made there but most players of that game don't have the experience or knowledge most members of this forum do!
Hopefully the community here will bolster my enthusiasm in working music and maybe I'll make something stellar someday. ;-)And certainly happy to be here!
JovianStardroid
12-12-2011, 07:32 PM
Hey guys. I'm JovianStardroid, but you can also call me JS or Jovi. I've lurked here for a long while (about two or three years) because of amazing remixes from the games of my childhood: Super Mario Bros. 3, Final Fantasy I, the Mega Man games, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Pokemon.
I'm still learning to remix right now (using FL Studio mostly) so I'm probably nowhere near great yet, but I hope to get better though this community.
Cheers, guys! Can' wait to get more involved!

Hi, I'm PokeRemixStudio (http://www.youtube.com/user/pokeremixstudio) from youtube, but I signed up with an alternate name since I don't solely make Pokemon remixes. I've been lurking around the forums a bit, so I'm ready to start posting, I suppose. I signed up months ago but college made me forget to be active here. :P

Hello to everyone, I'm EmuZSNES from Youtube!
I'm still a newbie in music, and I mainly make originals over remixes, but hey, why not. Hope I can get better at using FL Studio 10! :D
I'm hoping to go big one day, but at the pace I'm going at, that's going to be several years away. xD

Hey, if you go from 'Newbie' to 'Proffesional' in several years... that's not such a bad pace to work at. I hope we can help you make that 'several year' goal happen at OCRemix.

Hello everyone. I'm the new guy here for the time being.
I've been a fan of OCR for quite some time now. Going buy my iTunes "Date Added" sorting, I'd estimate around 2008 or 2009 was when I first discovered the site, though it could be longer since I've seen at least three redesigns of the site.
I thought I'd finally join the forums so I can post when provoked. :) I hope this community is a welcoming one.

Hi everyone! I'm Brotha Dom...or just Dom. (Decided to use a nickname from high school)
Anyway, I'm into working with FL, but I'm not really great at remixing. Also, I like to rap, so hopefully I can get some practice working with people here!
As far as favorite game soundtracks, I'd say I enjoy Sonic, Megaman, Pulseman, DKC2, and Kirby. However, I'm welcome to suggestion.

Hello there.
I'm GuitArbitrary. I also go by m64m.
As for my musical experience, I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now. I used to use tabs, but now I mostly learn and write music by ear. I decided to join this community to build my skill in almost every way.
Right now, I've submitted my first remix. I'm pretty excited to get the judges' feedback on it.

Yo! Long time lurker first time someone. Recently I've had the sudden urge to learn how to compose music, and I felt that this was a good place to start. Ten years experience with piano, but I'm not very good at it. Also dipping my feet in piano score composition; I hope to submit some quality piano solos to the site in the near future.

Hey, I'm Blazaking. Also known as draze4blaze on YouTube. I'm into remixing video game music with FL Studio. Most of my remixes are Pokémon tracks, though I have some Sonic remixes and a Touhou one as well.
Anyway, I've been eager to get my account activated so I can dive into the community and improve my skills! :)

Hey folks, thought I'd do the standard introduction now that my registration is complete :)
I just found this site randomly googling because I've been searching to find....well exactly what this place is! I'm a life time music fan, and life time gamer, I've noticed my original music recently has been taking quite a video game sounding turn, so I thought I'd just go full throttle and cover some video game music while I'm at it.
I play a bunch of instruments, and record primarily in Cubase, hope to see you all around :)

Hi, I'm Nate! (said in the style of 'Hi, I'm Daisy!!!') I knew of OCR before and I think I listened to some remixes, but doing remixes/covers of old tunes didn't really interest me until recently. I went to the OCR panel at Magfest and saw some familiar faces and everyone was just really nice and encouraging. I think the fact that I could meet up with fellow forum members in real life at some point is really awesome. I already did my first remix request yesterday and will submit soon, hopefully you'll dig it. On other forums I also go by bubblepipemedia, so if you already know me from another forum or real life, add me as a contact!

The Dr Pepper Diet, that is!
I've been a fan of this site and its contents for years and years; only now, though, have I really gotten the nerve to join in and try my hand at remixing. I've no real experience, besides screwing around with MIDIs and percussion IRL, but I'm eager to learn and open-minded!
Mega Man, Sonic, and F-Zero, mainly have brought me great joy through their music. Prog rock and jazz are also genres that really appeal to me.
Anyhow, I hope to learn a lot and have fun!

Hey there. :)
As a long time lurker, I hail from the NiGHTSIntoDreams.com forums. Few of you might know me from over there and various conventions along the way.
Told myself I was going to join up after Otakon came and went last year, but somehow neglected to do just that. So, now it's Post-MAGFest and... well, here I am.
Without overloading on the dorky side, yes - I'm a huge fan and have tons of admiration for the different styles and remixes I've come across here on the site. When I was a kid, I used to think it would be just swell if people actually took these songs and translated them into different mediums... and, well, a number of years later, here we are.
I've got intentions of eventually starting into several music-related projects, but that's been a slow process as I've been trying to learn as much as I can about programs and how they work before I sit down and set myself up for failure in not knowing what it is I'm doing.
Whether that happens or when it happens, we shall see.
Otherwise, I look forward to lurking with a name ;)

My name is Demetrius, but I go by NerdMeech; and I have been lurking this website for a loonng time. I dunno what took me soo long to gather the courage to join the forum; but I finally got around to it. I love the music that comes from this site and the love for just videogames and their music period. For now I am just a listener and fan [but soon I will be learning to play the Bass guitar and when I get good enough, hopefully uploading remixes of my own one day]. Some of my favorite soundtracks are DK64, Shaq Fu, FFIX and Brave Fencer Musashi. I am sorry that this intro was soo long lol.

My name is Andy, I'm 16 years-old, and my artist name is PixelPanic! I have recently started remixing and I am planning to submit some songs in the near future (not that good at mastering)! My favorite games are Mega Man X, Zelda: Wind Waker, and Earthbound, my favorite OST would have to be Chrono Trigger, though (can't beat Nobuo)!
My real talents are in translation and transposition from sheet music (I'm not that good at playing by ear) and making synths. I also play bass, but not that well, or maybe that well, I listen to a lot of good bassists so I don't have much room for comparison. VGM is my favorite kind of music, and although I make primarily rave-style music, I lean toward rock remixes done by the likes of Entertainment System or Random Encounter.

Well, Pixel, why don't you mosey on over to the WIP forums (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16) before submitting your first track? Over there plenty of people will be willing to give you the guidance you need for mastering and possibly dictation ('playing by ear').
Welcome to OCR - I hope people here help you musically move forward!

Hey, everyone! I'm Greg. I've been musically involved for thirteen years, when I first picked up an alto sax on the first day of middle school band, but didn't start writing my own stuff until spring 2006. Back then I wrote sparsely and all of my music revolved around my music of study in college, jazz. Writing picked up over the next few years, but I didn't actually write anything intended for games until the fall after I graduated (2009).
Since then I've been getting more and more serious about writing for games. To keep myself focused, among other things, I started writing a blog (you can click my sig if you'd like to check it out). For me, joining OCRemix is long overdue, I think. I look forward to listening to and working on many projects here in the future.
Cheers!
PS: I already posted a thread in the WIP section. Did it last night and then thought 'hey, I'm sure there's a place to introduce myself.' Sure enough...
pokemoneinstein
01-19-2012, 01:20 AM
Just finding this now, I guess I'll introduce myself, despite having been here for a while.
So I'm pokemoneinstein. Shocker, huh? I'm 15 years old, and I've been gaming since I was three, starting with Donkey Kong Country and DKC2. I grew up on mostly retro stuff, so I have a lot of the same memories as a lot of you older users. VGM means a lot to me, and I'm quite honestly not sure why. But it brings back so many wonderful memories that regular, popular music just don't invoke. I started "remixing" on YouTube a couple of years ago, but I've really only gotten good in the last few months. For the longest time I would just take MIDIs and run them through GarageBand. But I'm a very fast learner, and I've managed to teach myself a lot about music theory just by listening to remixers here, as well as a YouTube user named skotein. I just finished my first attempt at a "real" remix, called Land of the Beans, and it's a huge improvement even from what I was uploading a few months ago.
It's so hard to choose a favorite song, or franchise, or anything, so I'll just list some of the ones that have been the biggest parts of my life. Kirby, Donkey Kong, Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, EarthBound, and Final Fantasy IV have been the biggest influences on my life, in terms of both music and gaming. More specifically, Kirby's Adventure, DKC, all the classic Mario games, as well as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Pokémon Gold/Silver and Red/Blue, and Ocarina of Time... Wow, that's a lot of games, and I'm not nearly done, so I'll just stop. I feel like this is way more information than necessary XD
Anyway, it means a lot to me that I get to be here! Glad to meet some of you, and to know some others, and I look forward to spending even more time around these parts!

It's been almost 5 years since my last post. If you remember me as an avid remix reviewer/listener and forum poster, it's nice to be back in touch. If you joined any time after 2007, let me give a full introduction:
Lady Zelda here. I live, eat, sleep, and breathe video games. Over the last 5 years I have worked to grow my video game horizons exponentially, including discovering a hobby for writing video game-themed song parodies. For that, I recently started a YouTube channel, where I am known as Lady Game Lyric, that I have been working to grow. If you are interested in checking it out, here is my channel: www.youtube.com/LadyGameLyric
This of course moved me to get more involved in the video game music community (even if video game song parodies don't count as video game music...do they?) and made me realize I owe you all a long-overdue visit and a pledge to be more active on OC Remix this year.
So hello from Lady Zelda/Lady Game Lyric, and it is very nice to be back!

Greetings!
I've been a long-time lurker, but I thought that it is wrong to not properly introduce myself as I am big OCR fan. Before anything else, I'd like to thank all of the OCRemixers who are working hard to make us experience another side of music; I deeply respect what you do.
I'm 20 and I live in France, somewhere near Paris to be a little bit more precise, so my English can be quite weird from time to time because I am not very used to talk casually in English (even though I am studying English literature <_<). Though, I must say, my French is weird too, even though I've been living in France for 20 years. Grammar is a pain ** *** *** after all... :(
I was quite a gamer, J-RPGs had risen my interest in game music, I started J-RPGs quite early with Final Fantasy VI and I just cannot forget the first time I heard Atma Weapon's battle theme... and of course, Kefka's epic Dancing Mad theme. I don't have as much time as I did before so now I stick with watching animes, playing from time to time with friends.
I had played keyboard for about a year and then I dropped because I had little time to spend on music. But now I kinda regret this decision and I want to play once again asap!
I listen to quite a lot of things, ranging from video games music (O RLY?) to Japanese music (yeah, including anime music and stuff, I really like Kajiura Yuki's works), but mostly rock&metal (things like Arctic Monkeys, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Nightwish, The Police, Queen, etc. among others).
My favourite OST is... well, each track has its own meaning, so it is a hard choice. I would say "The Last Remnant"'s OST because there is a lot of variety in it. My favourite game music is definitely "Final Fantasy XI"'s "Distant Worlds", though I love "Final Fantasy IX"'s "A Place to Call Home" nearly as much.
As for my favourite OCR Album... well, I enjoyed most of them, but "Chrono Symphonic" was top-notch. Finally, my favourite OCR... ugh, I can't say. They all remind me part of my childhood so they all bring good ol' memories back, that is why I am thankful. I have a preference for epic sounding OCRemix (orchestra-like), heavy metal track (well, you know, lots of beats and with ungodly guitar solo), acoustic&piano; and OCR never fails to surprise me.
That's quite a wall of text, I'm sorry about it, I have a bad habit of saying/writing too much about myself.
Please take good care of me. :D
[edit]oh, and happy chinese new year too. :D
Hey, an introduction place-thing!
Hello everyone! I, like many I'm sure, have been lurking around this site for a while. I was just waiting for the right moment to make an account (similar to how one might wait, with an arrow nocked and the bowstring drawn, for the right moment to claim their target). I recently saw a request for performers in one of the album threads and thought "that's my cue!" (pun always intended :-) )...Wait, is that really a pun at all?
About me! I'm currently finishing up my undergrad at college (getting a borring BA in Music) and have absolutely no idea what I want to do afterwards! So exciting! :dstrbd:
I've gotten into a lot of things though, both in and outside of music, and since composition is one of them I'm sure I'll be posting my own remix around here soon enough (though I think I should deal with my comp. project for school first >_>) The amount of community support and quality feedback around here is mind-blowing to me, so I feel like it'd be a waste to not take advantage of it
More info! My favorite game is easily FFIX, which also happens to hold my favorite game OST. I play lots of RPGs but I'm also very partial to Metroid, Kirby, and Link. Of those three series, my favorites would probably be Super Metroid (though I liked Other M a lot), Kirby Super Star, and either Wind Waker or Skyward Sword (I need to give SS a few more years to see how well it holds up).
Anyway, I can be terrible at keeping up with social things (even online social things) but I'm determined to make it most likely not happen here, probably. See you in the forums!
...I never know how to end things well. :whatevaa:

Greetings, everyone. I am a sophomore college student hoping to be a music composer for games. Hoping I can start off here because I'm not satisfied with whether I'm original or not, yet, as well as getting interested in remixes, covers, and the like.
I already have some original releases available on Bandcamp, if anyone wants sonic reference as to what I do.

I look forward to the experience, here.

Hey all! Long time lurker / listener, first time poster. Looking to really expand my musical technique here and share some of my creations with you all. Just graduated from college and now I have nothing else to do but find a job and produce some music. I am hoping to jump right in and get some solid feedback.

Well, as you two probably know, the best place for feedback is the Workshop forums.

Hello all!
Recently discovered the site and its trove of treasure through the Extra Creditz show, if you haven't seen it check it out :)
Long-time gamer and somewhat shorter time as an amateur musician. I've played for several years, mainly guitar, and played around in various DAWs. Just recently have I started taking it seriously. I thought I'd try my hand at some remixing. If it doesn't pan out you'll just see me enjoying all the wonderful stuff on the site :)
Anyhow, hope to be an asset to the community and have some fun!
Thanks!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking OCR for years now, and finally decided it was time to drop a line and introduce myself.
I'm Sarinilli, an avid fan of the Legend of Zelda series, and music in general. Never done a remix, and I have minimal experience with sound editing. I have dabbled in various forms of music, from singing to keyboard, flute and my beloved little Ocarinas. I had a violin for a while which I sadly had to get rid of because of shoulder problems. I'm also a fan of harps/lyres and would love to get one, drums of all kinda, and guitars- especially electric bass.
I like to think I'm a decent singer and not half bad with my ocarina, but by no means consider myself to be good enough with my ocarina to record for remixes. That might or might not just be self criticism though. Regardless, and all of my various time consuming hobbies aside (I have plenty), I do like messing around with music and recordings from time to time.
Vocal and Ocarina references, if anyone is so inclined...

Hi everyone, I'm Mokoni.
I'm a HUGE fan of video games in general, and I want to write music for video games for a living.
I actually met OC Remix in person first via my room mate, she seems to be good friends with them, hahah, though they met me by my real name.
I'm actually a Graduate Student at NYU Steinhardt in the Music Technology program, and I'm trying to write a Master's Thesis on chiptunes (I was trying to see if I could post here to see if I could talk to chiptunes composers as interviews for said thesis, but have NO idea where to put it).
I'm classically trained in flute, piccolo, voice, piano, etc. I have an ocarina too but it's a small one, I want a bigger one. I've gotten my hands on almost every single orchestral instrument at one point or another, and know classical orchestration extremely well. I stepped into the tech scene because, well, that's where you have to go if you want to write for games, right?
Actually I'm pretty sure if it weren't for my room mate, I'd probably still have no idea what to do next in order to pursue my career...
I DO have a website but currently do not have a lot of samples up on it, currently working on making more. If you're interested in seeing it, please go here: www.mokonimusic.com
I really have no idea what to put, I don't want to sound snobby...so I guess that's it for now. Look forward to meeting more people, and perhaps having my questions answered.
Please take good care of me :3

Hello, everyone.
My name is Ian A. Neumann, but please call me Ian.
I had trouble regestering at this forum because even though I was doing everything correctly, I still kept getting that one error.
But thankfully, with help, I was able to get on the forums. :)
Anyways, I came here to this forum to see if I can make some music track requests for any composers who would want to create them with their MIDI Players or Reorchestrated Software Thingies like on that ZREO site.
I'm more into classic cartoon music rather than video game music,so I certainly hope that some people out there would be glad to work on some requests I have in mind.

My name is CG Morton.
I played piano as a youth, clarinet and saxophone in school, and more recently took up the bass guitar, which I play with some friends in both jazz and rock capacities. I like to think that I'm passably good.
I've also dickered about with composition. For instance, I once transposed piano parts for every song in Final Fantasy (the first one).
But now I'm trying to get proper serious. I mean to make video games, and I also mean to write the music for them. So I'm here primarily to learn what I can about making excellent music.
Of course, I'm also a long-time fan of the site, so I'll try and contribute what I can. I may even try my hand at a remix, though they say it takes five years to be good enough to pass the judges, so, uh, don't hold your breath.
Anyways, it's been lovely meeting you all! I hope we will be the best of friends.

I've been a fan of video games music since I first got my Sega Mega Drive (aka Genesis), at around 8 years old. I'll never forget the first moments I heard the "Streets of Rage" main theme for the first time. Damn... the chills!
From "Sonic: The Hedgehog" incredibly made soundtrack to the "Mortal Kombat" series awesome dark-ambient music overall, to my all-time favorite "Comix Zone", they all got me thinking: "Man... I gotta learn to play this." By the time I got the console, I was already learning to play the guitar on my own, and with a little help from older friends and soon started to practice my favorite game's tunes. I mean, my technique was, of course, very bad... but hell, I sure had lots of fun doing it anyway.
I'm 26 years old now. I'm a professional musician for two aspiring rock bands. Been writing, recording/producing and playing live shows actively for about 7 years now and I have no doubt that I owe it to my passion for music. But that alone isn't enough if you're not fully commited to the cause, don't have lots of perseverence and are not willing to dedicate a lot of your time learning and knowing your instrument, and are not constantly motivated by your own beliefs and results to work even harder and get further beyond. And, in my case...
... were not simply a young boy fascinated by video games music. If I look back, I can clearly see where it all really started for me :)

Hopefully I'll be able to learn how to begin arranging music from the ocr community and perhaps give something back at the same time
Looking forward to it.

Hey everyone,
My name's Steve. I've been playing video games since I learned to use my thumbs, and its my goal to write music for video games!
I'm a guitarist, however I'm currently studying film scoring (minor in video game scoring) at Berklee College of Music so composing takes up most of my time! I've got a few songs up on my Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/stephen-pierce-music
I heard about OC ReMix when I discovered that a lot of my favorite composers/producers (Danny Baranowsky, Zircon, Jimmy Hinson) got their start here, and after lurking for a while I figured it was finally time to make an account and get some feedback from you guys!
I'm trying to up my electronic skillz which is also what led me here. I hope to learn a lot from everybody and help out where ever I can!
Thanks!

If you want something to do while waiting to set up a new music machine, come to the remix board, listen and comment on stuff. Learning to listen is one of the most important skills you can have, and a board full of unfinished music by not-yet-professionals is a great place to learn to listen for flaws to avoid in your own music.
Besides, it's a great place to make friends, and help those aspiring artists grow as artists.

Hey, I'm NES(Or Simple if you wanna call me that). I got a contact suggestion from Youtube about ocremix. You guys have inspired me to make my own remixes in the future. I'm a first year bassist though so I don't expect to remake anything in a couple of years. I'm taking Music Comprehension classes starting next year, so I feel like I'll get better as time moves on. I look forward to being on this site with all you guys.
Edit: By the way, my favorite game series is Kingdom Hearts. I love Yoko's musical skills.

Hey all - Glad to actually start posting here. I have actually been reading the forums of OCremix since way back in the day with my friend and roomie Unstable Hamster (childhood friends and all), so i have technically been around for quite awhile, but I wanna step into the forum now. I absolutely adore video game music (listen to it most of the time with only some occasional metal), and I think the work all of the remix artists here is absolutely incredible and artistic. I get inspired by these songs so keep up the great work! I play a small bit of guitar (can't find too much time for it now unfortunately), so i hope to be able to some arrangement at some point, but until then I'll just keep rocking to your tunes! Thanks again!

Howdy everybody!
I've been listening to OCR for quite a while. I'm a homeschooled student, so I have quite a bit of time in front of my computer with nothing to do but work and music. I also can't seem to focus on lyrical music, so I always come here first. Suffice it to say, I love this site. It's always been on my bucket list to write some music, and I figured that it would be a smart idea to start with the area I'm passionate about. Sit tight, because I'll be listening, waiting, and posting whenever the mood lighting is just right.

Hai to all,
Video games are the best. Remember that feeling you got when you were right in the middle of Chrono Trigger for the first time? I mean right in the thick of it? Like just got to Magus' castle with Frog, Marle and Chrono. That to me was the pinacle of video game ecstasy. That is the dragon i've been chasing since my halcyon days of super nintendo youth.
I'm excited about video games, music and video game music. I am an eclectic, full time composer living in LA. I love to collaborate so don't be shy. I'm excited to look into the remixing competitions and to meet the people on the board.

Hi and welcome, new folks. :D
Aside from competitions, there's also our remix board (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16) for remixes finished or in progress, intended for ocr or not; there's remix projects that pretty much always want more remixers (this one certainly does (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14083)), there's ppl seeking collaborators for... pretty much anything music-related (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39)... For those who don't make music themselves (also for ppl who do), drop some comments on ppl's individual tracks (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14) and the albums (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=34) (available here (http://ocremix.org/albums/)), remixers like to hear what ppl think of their work.
There's lots of ways to get into this community. Welcome. :D

Hey all. My name is 194.
I am a Chilean guy, and a normal Engineering student. However, I have always been really interested in both music and videogames. I teached myself some keyboard and arranging.
I have worked in some stuff recently. I'd like to showcase just one of them here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyDj0leKCFM
I joined OCRemix because I have noticed most of my stuff sounds... mediocre. Mainly because of my not-so-good abilities with VSTs. And I'm sure there will be people here willing to help this guy (and many others).
Thanks for reading :D

Hello, I'm Adrian. Aspiring VGM composer. Alas, the aspirations are currently greater than the skills with which to achieve them, but we'll get there :D. Found OC remix via: FL Studio -> Zircon -> Mindblown -> Youtube search -> Press conference/seminar on entering the VGM business -> Mention of OC Remix.
I used to make Hip Hop beats (Still do sometimes), but eventually, it turned into me stealing other people's songs, programming drums over them and calling them mine. Then started composing for Hip Hop, got pretty good at that, but found the genre to be limiting. Got a little older, lost my "wanna-be-black-and-gangsta mentality". Opened up to other genres of music, embraced it, and here I am on my quest for knowledge and development. I will ask many questions. (But worry not, I'm aware of the search function.)
Hopefully, I'll become part of this community.

Some of you guys may have seen me here or there, but I've now decided to finally do something here :P
I'm here and looking to meet new people!
Anyways, name's Brian. Around the web, I often go under the aliases Brian6330 or Brischli. On Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/brianbelize), I'm Brianbelize and in a few rare instances I use B6330.
I love Video Games! They make up a big part of my life and will continue to do so. I like all genres of games, but prefer RPG games most of the time. I can hold my own in video games and would say that I have some degree of skill. If I play a game I've never played before, then most likely I'll get owned by everybody. After getting aquainted with the controls and everything though? Good luck then.
Some may know that I'm also an avid Pianist. I have been playing for over 6 years now and will keep on doing that! I learn and play Classical and Video Game music. Sometimes, I even upload videos of me playing to Youtube, so people can enjoy what I do. Personally, I plan to keep playing until I can't play anymore. School or life will not stop this. The Piano is just such an awesome instrument! It can play practically any kind of music, is diverse and can either be in the fore- or back-ground!
Something about myself?
Well, I never dislike a person without good reason. To me, "everybody on the world is my friend; I just haven't met them yet." I'm always up for discussion, sometimes I can offer some good advice and always try to be on my best behavior. Never hesitate to talk to me- I'm here on the internet to meet new people and make friends, through talking about things we have in common!
That about covers it.
I'm also the owner (along with somebody else) of n00bpwners.com (http://n00bpwners.com) - Video Game Blog and Forum. I blog there, manage the site and am active. The site has some focus on Video Game Music (Has over 200 different sheets there) and working in the video game industry.
See you, who thankfully took the time to read all this, around the forum!
P.S. Ask for my Steam, Skype and Twitter if you're interested!

Hi guys!
i finally got around to joining OCremix, been wanting to do that for some time now, and finally got the chance.
let me introduce myself
my name is Luuk and i go by the alias of TheMrkuul. i love videgame soundtracks for the feeling of recognition they awake in me. i grew up in the 80's and 90's and saw the rise and fall of a complete videogame era :<
i have been playing music ever since i was old enough to play a keyboard, my dad was a musician as well, so it started off early :-D
Can you imagine a small kid, five years of age, banging enthousiastically on an organ keyboard? that kid would be me :lmassoff:
over the years as i grew up i became more and more developed, learning to read notes and playing them on the fly, i learned to play piano keyboard an organ. i took up several other instruments along the way, i play bass guitar, accordion, percussion (cajon or rockbox) several synths, and i sing. this combined with the power of the almighty atari STe (at that time the most widely used sequencing machine along with Cubase) lead to the skills i now posess. the sequencing software i use are several, i use Fruity, Cubase, Sonar, Acid and sometimes for making samples i use Audacity. i make use of a lot of VST instruments, sometimes i even use circuit bent or modded hardware because VST's cannot always produce the "right" sound.
the equipment i have:
Yamaha Dx7, Korg X5d, Roland ax7, Korg Trinity Rack, Stereo microphone setup for recording, a Cajon, An Aria 120 bass accordion, a fender precision bass, a load of VST instruments (some specifically designed and modded by me) some modded hardware (like a modded NES) for chipsounds. more equipment is added from time to time. (it keeps growing! my house is too small!)
i absolutley love writing arrangements, been in several bands, playing live on stage. right as of now i am working again to get a group together to be on the stage, just for the thrill and the fun of it.
i can't wait for a competition to start! also i am very interested in a collaboration on remixes, sharing creativity with others and learning from it is what music is all about!
i'll post some of my music remixes, which are hosted on soundcloud in the appropriate section later.
for now i say HI to all you musicians here and hope to have a happy, fruitful stay here.

Hey!
I've know of OCRemix for a while but I had never checked the forums until a couple of days ago...
I am a keyboardist though I don't have a really great keyboard, so my recording possibilities are quite bad sadly. I've been composing for quite a few years and even though I don't know much theory, I think I'm at least a decent composer.
Regarding music, I listen mainly to progressive rock/metal, but I'm open to other styles. And in games, I like almost everything. My faves are Zelda, Final Fantasy, Smash Bros, Banjo Kazooie and more.
Anyway, I hope I can contribute with some arrangements if I figure out how to use some of the softwares recommended here. I noticed there are no Earthbound/Mother 3 remixing projects, which is quite sad...

Hello everyone!
My name is Jordan and I'm a New Yorker. I've been playing (obsessed with) video games for about 20 years now and I've always loved the music. The first game I can remember playing is Metroid II for the Game Boy. Besides video game music, I listen to all kinds of genres, though metal would probably be the go-to for me. I've done some quick and terrible remixes in the past, but now I'm trying to do it right. I'm working on one now and hope to have it up on the WIP board tonight.

Hello,
I'm Riulyn and I've known about this site for years but never really thought about joining an online community that appreciated videogame music until now. My main connection to videogames at the moment is transcribing their music for piano [I sadly spend more time working on transcriptions than playing videogames]. I would like to submit some remixes at some point but I lack the equipment or the funds to make anything that sounds nice.
I think I'll mostly be lurking and occasionally checking out people's WIPs. I'm pretty obsessive over the Suikoden series so if you make a Suikoden ReMix I'm sure I'll listen to it at least once.

I guess I should write and introduction thingy. Well, there isn't much to say within the context of music. I'm not a composure, singer, or musically inclined at all. Listening to music is fine, I suppose, but I'm also fine with not listening to it. I'm just weird, I suppose. I'm much more artistically gifted in other areas, like painting, drawing, and graphic design.
Aside from that, I'm a nerd. I like anime and manga, video games, comics, reading books, even writing--yes, I write fan fiction. I also play Dungeons & Dragons, both 3.5 and 4e. So, yeah, huge nerdy girl. Mirby told me this place was cool, so I thought I'd check it out and stuff.

Hello, everyone! I'm Matt.
I'm 22, I live in NJ, USA, and I've always loved both gaming and music. I'm a drummer and guitarist, but I have more experience with guitar (I sold my drum kit years ago). Unfortunately, I've been neglecting my guitars for a while now, so I'm a little rusty. I actually started college as a music recording major, but have since decided to switch over to computer science for various reasons.
I recently started composing electronic music with FL studio. It's loads of fun, and it makes me feel a lot more productive than spending ALL of my free time playing video games :-P
I'm also a beginner programmer, who has yet to get his feet wet with anything substantial (aside from basic college class projects). The only language I really feel comfortable using at the moment is Java, but I plan on learning C++ as soon as I'm a bit more experienced. I made a few flash games (using AS3) for school, and I really like the idea of developing games as a hobby, or possibly even a profession. We'll see :D
I'm really excited to be a part of this community, and I know there are tons of extremely talented people here that I can learn a lot from. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Hello, MangaMan here.
I've only been on this site for a short while and I suppose I should have came here first but oh well.
I review manga and anime on both my blip.tv channel and Youtube channel called MangaMan Reviews.
I'm also the project coordinator for the Majora's Mask: Tears of the Moon Musical Remix project (Recruiting now!).
Big fan of anime, love music, and I love video games.

Hello! I'm LuigiBlood, 18 years old french guy.
I do ROM Hacking, Music, Videos, and some more.
So I use FL Studio for making music and remixes, and I've did quite some stuff there... Sometimes I do still use Wario Ware DIY for making music.
Almost all my songs/remixes there:

About my other stuff...
Working on BS-X Project, with the goal of making a working Satellaview server. And it partially works now.

Hello OC pals!
My name is Alan Garcia and I am a bassist/composer currently working as a composer for "Breeze in the Clouds (http://www.facebook.com/alangee15)": a video game currently in development by SrBilyon Harris and HeadRush Games.
I have been playing electric bass for about 5 years now, but have only recently acquired the means to finally be able to compose. Composing for Breeze takes up most of my time, but I am really looking forward to doing some great arrangements for my favorite video game music.
Hope you can guys can drop by my channels to share your opinions on my original and remixed work. I'll make sure to do the same for you all as well:

I'm pretty sure no one actually reads these so I'll keep it brief. I've been writing music for a decade or so now, and recently came back from a long hiatus. I'm frustrated that I have few people to share my music with nowadays, so I registered here for the entirely selfish reason of finding an audience that might give me some feedback.
Currently I'm in the process of designing, programming, and scoring an independent game project. It's still in its infancy, but I'm having a blast figuring out what exactly it will be, and the music plays a big role in that.

I have known of OC for some time, signed up since I'm a musician who from time to time plays around with game midi's. I don't plan on releasing any big projects as I work intuitively. Predetermined releases do not mix with this approach. Sometimes I may abandon a track for many years before returning. It all depends on what takes priority of attention. That aside, I will share the remixies that may come along
Been composing on FL studio for 10 years now, and use it in conjunction with mainly allot of Korg software and a keyboard, I like their gear! they have a global tuner so custom scales are made possible. I am mainly into eastern sounds and love writing and remixing tunes with non-contemporary scales in the genre of World Music: New Age / Orchestral Fantasy (like RPGs), Ethnic Beats, Down tempo, Chill Out...and New Wave Goa-Psychedelic Trance - Slower tempo within the cycles of natural circadian rhythms i.e. below 120bpm and not at the usual 140+ range. I fuse these various genres of interest as well
I do not use any compression or limiting filters when I master, I sometimes use EQ to create more head room I am a purist where timber dynamics are concerned.
I write music for pleasures sake and not for selling and making money tho I am open to donations... If a piece is good enough for OC I am happy have someone else do the mastering that may be desired if liked to be released and hosted here as an officially accepted remix.
being someone who experiences synaesthesia I am able to feel the inaudible tones more than most people and this is something I notice being lacking in modern music tho I didn't have frame of reference for this until I began to re-develope synaesthesia in the last 4 or 5 years (I recall it being the state of being I had as a child.)
I don't really play games any more but I still remember the musical scores from some of the early 8-32 bit generation.
If you know of any midi's which would fit into my tastes I would love to have them forwarded to me.
Some Titles which I am fond of as a reference (tho I didn't play all these games) to what I am looking for are
Alundra:
the lake shrine,
meia's dream,
Inoa Village (if some one has a midi or can transcribe it that would be ace)
Legend of Dragoon
Lunar 1 & 2.
Mystery of Mana
Some Sonic tunes still catch me today :) like lava reef, and the Chaotix tune from level one
So basically RPG tunes which Have an Erie mystic or fantastical sort of vibe like Alundra...
anything that compares with that game is great... thank you Koei Tanaka!
Peace

False indeed. I read them all the time, and other regulars do pop in from time to time to greet ppl, at least if they have something specific to reply to. In this case correcting you and inviting you to the remix board (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16). (for originals/non-vgm-remixes, there's a second board, tho)
Invitation is open to everyone, so if you make music, let's hear it. :D

Heya. :)
I've been a fan of OCRemix for some time, and I think I actually joined the forum a long time ago - like, years ago - but I've long since forgot about it, otherwise I'd log back in. xD
Well, my name is Aaron, and while I'm not a musician by hobby or trade - I really like the fact OCRemix exists to appreciate the musical art form; not so much the game music, although that is certainly apart of it, but music as a whole from a lot of great artists here.
I do appreciate a lot of musical styles, some of my notable favorites being swing, jazz, mostly classical, and some ambience/techno/trance. I dunno if Broadway counts any, lol. xD
But that said, music plays a role in my life whenever I'm doing my webcomic that's been around for a year. Music definitely helps keep the ideas flowing and the motivation on hope to imagine scenes for the series and stuff like that; it's quite amazing what it can do.
At any rate, a pleasure to meet y'all! :D

Allright, introduction thread! Although I've been aware of OCR for years and have many times visited the site and downloaded some of the album projects, I have never actually signed up for it. Now I have. So...
I've been arranging video game music (and done some original work) for many many years. At first I arranged video game music on homecomputers for more advanced soundchips (like from 3-channel square wave & noise to a 9-channel FM synthesizer chip), and as soon as I could afford a synthesizer I started doing them on those. I used to own a Roland XP50 (still have it), Kawai K1r (still have that too), and an original vintage Juno-60 (which I sold eventually). Right now all that stuff is in storage though, so I am using Virtual instruments only for the time being.
Anyway, I produced two VGM SAV albums in the 90s which was a lot of fun (although seriously lacking in production value and mixing). I also did some arrangements by request for Junkerhq.net and the Policenauts project. I have a youtube channel with some of that 90s stuff on it (www.youtube.com/mrrudix (http://www.youtube.com/mrrudix)). I mainly (only?) arrange VGM from old MSX/MSX2 games since that is the music I grew up with - and it is often underrated.
I am no professional musician by any means, it is my hobby, but one I invest in a lot. I taught myself to play 2-handed piano, and recently picked up bass guitar but so far I suck at it. Reason for signing up is mainly cause I love the community, and I wouldn't mind getting feedback on recent work so I can make the next step...seeing how OCR has always had pretty high standards for submissions I don't expect to be featured any time soon, but I do expect to learn a lot and perhaps work together on some stuff.
Yeah...that's pretty much it.
Elder Kirby
05-15-2012, 11:49 AM
Hi guys!
My name is Elder Kirby, but you can just call me Dennis.
I've been producing sub-par original work since 2008, and I've been checking OCremix every now and then for quite a while.
When, to my dismay, I searched for some of my favorite games to see if there were ReMixes of them, I saw that there were none. This motivated me to see if I could pioneer in those games by being the first to get posts for them, so here I am!
Of course, I am far from there—in fact, I am very mediocre when it comes to producing.
Nonetheless, I hope to improve my own skills through striving to make a decent ReMix.
In the meantime, I can now at least contribute to conversations and help review WIPs .
I hope to get to work on ReMixes for Tomba 2, Wario Land 3, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, and of course, Earthbound and Pokemon R/S/E

Welcome both of you, Mr. Rudi and Elder Kirby! Took a listen to your channel, Rudi, you've got some rather interesting stuff there. And it's always good to see someone who wants to mix new games, Dennis, because even if my tastes generally run toward more popular composers and games, I've got a few less popular favorites of my own.
Look forward to seeing you both around more.

First I have to say: great site, great stuff, very helpful and interesting! I'm very glad I landed here :D
About me: I'm almost finished studying jazz saxophone (and finally bought a good saxophone mic, so if you ever need a saxophone sample just ask ;) )
Since I was a kid I was very fascinated with video games especially the audio part but I never found the time to dig really deep into game music production (practicing saxophone eats a damn lot of time you know…) but since last summer I spent more and more time for writing, producing, remixing etc. (I also got my first project and in two weeks I go with my jazzband into the studio to record the soundtrack for this amazing game http://www.mariov.ch/mirage/, wuhuuu! a first impression can be found here http://soundcloud.com/andibissig/die-entstehung-des-hutes)
so I've really just begun in the business but I guess there is no way back now :) so if anyone of you has a bit of spare time, I would be very grateful if you could listen to my works on http://soundcloud.com/tneko and give me some advice, tips, etc
thanks a lot and let's make the virtual world a better one with good audio!

Hi, I'm Jean945 (or just Jean). I'm a music fanatic, I play the drums and try to create some stuff on with FL Studio.
Music is in my blood so I really like to express that in any way possible. I had my first console when I was 3 (N64) and since then I'm playing video games in some kind of shape or form. I attach the emotions I felt that time with the music I heard on video games I played when I was kid, so to be able to revisit all my favorite video game music makes me very nostalgic.
I've been trying to create some stuff with programs like FL Studio and Audition for the past few years and I really like the liberty that I feel, I can do whatever the hell I want with music. I like remixing music and creating it, and now I just wanna get better and improve my skills.
Anyways, looking forward to my stay :)

Hi, I'm Multimedia Mike. I know nothing about creating music (aside from programmatically synthesizing a few 8-bit NES tunes from memory on various types of PCs about 20 years ago when just starting to learn to program). But I'm a big fan of OCRemix and its music. I actually discovered the site over a decade ago and downloaded some songs, but then just sort of... forgot about it for a long time. Then I watched a web show called Extra Credits that reminded me that the site existed.
Anyway, even though I can't compose music, I like to write software that pertains to music. The reason that I finally registered for the forums is that I have been working on some music software that OCRemix people might find useful (and could even be integrated into the site someday).

I had to look up those acronyms... virtual studio technology? Digital audio workstation? Goodness, that sounds awfully complicated. :-) No, that's a bit out of my league.
The audio software project I've been working on recently could best be described with the high concept pitch of: "Chipamp in the web browser." I hope to make chiptunes more accessible by allowing them to be played directly in a web browser.

Hi everyone!
My name is Ben, but online people call me LP for short. Oh, it's not short for Ben. It's short for Legendary Possum!
Legendary because I love all things legend. Brutal Legend, The Legend of Zelda, legendary berry fruit punch. Wasn't a big fan of I am Legend, though.
And possum because I just love the little underappreciated buggers to death. With their big ol' mouths and their widdle paws and the way the babies climb all over the mama like she's a jungle gym. I'm getting the word out about possums!
I'm an avid collector and listener to video game music and I have been my whole life. I'm just now learning this composition business, but I think I'm on the right track! My inspirations are, beginning with the obvious, Koji Kondo and Motoi Sakuraba. Then comes John Powell, James Newton Howard, James Horner, John Williams, Danny Elfman, etc. And last but not least, the classical composers and, in particular, the efforts of Swiss musician Marc Reift and the Philharmonic Wind Orchestra (look 'em up on Amazon).
I really enjoy the big-band, wind-orchestra sound, and I'm trying to emulate that in my current and future ReMixes. I look forward to getting and giving feedback to all my fellow musicians here at OCR!

I'm not really new here, I've always been into ocremix I'm just not exactly someone who gets very involved with people, but I'm interested in making the music now and hopefully somewhere down the line when I develop my skills I can help add to something bigger than myself. Or I can get hit by a bus tomorrow, who knows.
I'm also the united states champion of Mario Kart 64 for those of you who don't know,

as well as here,

I also play quake live competitively, left 4 dead on Steam, and I'm true Earthbound/Doom/Zelda/Final fantasy fan.
My favorite video game composers are Keeichi Suzuki, Koji Kondo and bobby prince probably. I also like Alexander Scriabin piano music, Beethoven and Aphex twin as well as artist like u-ziq, massive attack.
I play the piano and compose music but I'm not very good at it. atleast not yet. I got my entire life to build up on these skills and by the looks of it it will be all I have to do for a good while.
If that's not proof I like video games and video game music then I don't know what is.
Nice to meet you all I hope to be a productive member of this community somehow.

I just discovered this site 2 days ago after hearing some of the remixes on youtube while I was browsing for final fantasy remixes. I love great redos of the music of that series. As for other music, I mainly listen to metal and a few scene musicians (Bjorn Lynne, Jogeir Liljedahl, Chris Huelsbeck). For games, I love Final Fantasy (played 1, 2, 4, 5, and Crisis Core) and Monster Hunter, although I also play Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, and some other great PSP games. I also play on Kongregate.

Hello Everyone,
I'm Ammature, and I've known about OCremix for a while now, but I finally decided to join the forums because I'm interested in making music as an artistic hobby. I really enjoy music without lyrics (lyrics in a lot of songs today are beyond terrible), and music that conveys a scene really well, like in music videos (I considered doing AMVs, but I'm not that into anime, and this is easier). Video game music fits that description perfectly. Sometimes I can compose an entire song in my mind to fit a particular mood, and I usually end up forgetting it. My hope is to get to a skill level where I can compose quickly enough to record my mental soundtrack before I forget it.
So right now, I'm trying to just use free software since I'm not too serious about this yet. I'm trying to learn how to use LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio), and I have Audacity installed (although I never use it), so I'm hoping that I can make some decent quality music for my first few remix attempts.
After browsing the guide and etc, I still have a question to you "veteran"-ish people: How long does it typically take you to remix a song? From what I've read, you're using actual instruments and extra software and software plugins and it can take months to get a song made. For a lower-quality remix with just software, do you think it would take a long time to make a complete song? (long = > 2 months)

Welcome to the OCR Comunnity!
To answer, it should take about 1 week rough for the song to be complete in length. But according to your mood and suggestion made it could go longer. Still this is only rough work. The polishing and extra layering and add-on are taking quite an extensive time to finish.
Myself, I could do a 3:00 song in a day. But it sounds 3:00 in a day!
Hope it is what you were seeking.

Welcome. You should check out the 1-hour compos (http://compo.thasauce.net/compos/view/OHC) for some idea of what can be done in an hour. Give ppl a week, and they'll come up with stuff like the Mega Man compos here on ocr.
It depends on the song. If you play piano and make a piano song, you're likely gonna work a lot faster than if you're writing and humanizing an entire orchestra.
It also depends on your skill and your tools, obviously. I could make something listenable in an hour, I think. Others might not. It depends.

Thanks guys, those responses pretty much answer my question. I don't expect to become extremely skilled immediately, but its good to have a goal in mind. And one of the best parts about using software is that I can just edit it again if I want to, so I can polish it as much as I'd like.
Hey guys, I'm new here. I've been wanting to contribute some tracks to OC for years now, and I'm finally in a position to make it all happen. Hope the big bosses like my first effort 8)

Hey, all.
Been a fan of OCremix since it showed up in Game Informer several years back.
I'm a beginning amateur musician who's long term goal is music composition. My favorite class of instrument are strings (Guitar, Violin/Mandolin) and I know some of the basics of Piano and Drums.
I finally decided to learn how to build and use a DAW and I'm piecing together the basics, starting with a Lexicon Alpha I picked-up on sale.
I've been learning how to use finale notepad and plan on using it as my primary means of writing music. What I'm still trying to figure out is the various software options available to me, not to mention figuring how to get midi files to play on the DAW software (I'm looking at both CuBase 5LE which case with the Alpha, and Reaper).
Here's to hoping I can figure this stuff out.

Hey everyone. I'm Phil. I've been a huge fan of this site since I heard about it back in 2009 and I've finally decided to get my feet wet and expand my knowledge.
I'm currently a student studying music. I'd like to one day become a music teacher and pass on what I know to others.
I'm a pretty decent Bassist and Clarinetist. I'm currently working on improving my skills in Electric Bass and have started to work on other instruments; I'm still trying to learn how to use the editing software.
Look forward to working with you all!

Hi there,
I've lurked around on this site a little bit, not really sure if it was for me or not -- I play the cello and make instrumental arrangements of video game music, but I'm terrible at the electronic side of things. At any rate, thought maybe I'd come out of my shell and say hello...you people seem so nice and helpful so I thought maybe I should share some of my stuff here after all. :)

Hi, everybody.
I've been hearing remixes here for years now, and I figured it was time to try my hand at it. I look forward to getting to know the community here, and most of all, gaining as much experience in not only remix-making, but in music overall.
Thanks for welcoming me here, and I'll see you all around.

Greetings to all,
For the moment I will introduce myself as Zanquino. Nice to meet you all. I’ve visited and enjoyed the OCR remixes since around the time “Summoning of Spirits” album project was released so that would be late 2008 early 2009.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in one way or another. The site is amazing, very organized and clean. I am amazed at the quality of the work and it makes me really happy to see a group of individuals come together help each other create this amazing remixes and share it with the world.
I have zero experience remixing or playing any kind of instrument so what is my skill? I would have to say organizing stuff (I’m not a control freak lol). I love to take disorder and find ways to organize them in the most effective way. How can this be used to contribute to such an amazing community. Only time will tell.
Favorite game of all time - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
I think all that is left to say is see you around.

Thank you Rockos, appreciated.
Regarding Mario RPG, I also own an original cartridge but I have not had the chance to play it this year lol. Another game I love to play at least once a year is Megaman X. Megaman X is another one of my all-time favorites.
My favorite tracks from Mario RPG are:
Let's Do The Fooka-Fooka!
You And Toadofski Create...
Welcome To Bukki (Booster) Tower
Fight Against Kajidoh (Smithy)
And of course the greatest (imo) video game intro of all time Happy Adventure, Delightful Adventure!

I wasn't planning to introduce myself, but I after a while I had to do it - it-it's just so impolite not to! n.n
Not much to know about me... will talk a lot sometimes... and smother people with excessive smilies and exclamation marks :D yeh! though I try to stagger 'em - really! ;)
No musical talent or ambitions (ha! too much else to learn!) for me. I've been listening to OCRs for 3 years now and only quite recently realised I could gush over my favourites (!) by signing up. That's all I plan to do with this account. As for "Fun"? Well, normally I go by Skunk, but this other name may give a better impression to forumgoers. *-) *shrugs* We'll see how long it lasts. :)
My favourite remixes? The list keeps getting bigger and bigger! For some odd reason, these past few years I've become open to more genres. Sheesh, I didn't even listen to English vocals before coming here. And now? I listen to maybe 4-5 English songs XD It's great! :3
^w^ *gratuitous smiley*
EDIT - and I am not looking forward to being a "Dan Hibiki" X3 I'm a Makoto girl all the way! :p Ken is cute, though. ^_^

See you around!
Hi Zanquino :3 Nice to meet you!
I think I'll be Skunk before long, but should stay put after that. 8)
I agree: it's nice to finally sign up and give positive feedback to the site and all the remixers who thanklessly make awesome and free music. I'm not sure about you, but initially I just went to my favourite games... however, once I started checking out games I hadn't played or even hard of, I saw how few comments there were (even in popular games, some of the remixes have few comments). That must change! ^-^ Shiny mixes should be given more and more shiny stars! :3
Super Mario RPG? Yay! :D My favourite soundtrack and game is Secret of Mana. ^_^

Hey everyone, I'm Linkandzelda and I decided to join this forum. I'm not that good at introduction posts so, I guess I'll start with what kinds of things I do and why I joined.
In my spare time I enjoy ROM Hacking and creating various different Pokémon games. I currently have 5 projects in the works and they are as follows: Liquid Crystal, Emerald Dreams, Metallic Fusion, Yellow Advance and Platinum Origins. If you guys like, you can google those for more information since I don't want to overstay my welcome by making a post full of links lol.
As well as that, I also have websites I run. I have a Pokémon forum, a news site and a web hosting business. Either way, just other things I like to do in my spare time. If you wanna check them out, my homepage tells everything.
Now why I decided to join here at OCRemix, is because I also enjoy making music, specifically Video Game Guitar Covers. I started over 2 years ago with recording for an album I named First Step Back. Since then I've done 22/23 of the tracks I planned to make and have learnt a whole lot about equipment and home studio recording. I'm mainly here because I would like to get some feedback from some real professionals around the site as to what's good, bad and needs work. I've already spoke to a few guys on the IRC and they say the music is good but needs some work. I know my stuff needs work but I've reached my limits of what I can do without learning new stuff and delving into new topics like Mixing and Mastering. I mostly use Garageband to record my tracks and then use Logic Pro to spice them up a bit.
Well, that's it for me and why I'm here. I hope to see everyone around as I get to know the place better!

Howdy I'm Ciredn pleasure to meet you all!
Well now I think this is the first time I've ever posted on a forum. (Huge lurker here). But anyways I've been coming to this site for many years. I think at least seven years... And have enjoyed quite a few remixes from the talented artists here.
I've just started learning to make music and thought I should come here to learn how it all works. I haven't remixed anything yet. Have a few things in mind though. Just been trying to wrap my head around the DAW im using. Though my biggest foe would have to be synths. I'm absolutely horrid with them.
Anyways time to jump into the fray! Allons-y!

Howdy Ciredn and... Linkandzelda? Surprising that you're remixing pokemon instead of zelda ;-)
So you're both into remixing, eh? Try the workshop system as the first step to being and OCR artist one day! We also have competitions like "Remixing with the stars", in which unposted mixers get a posted artist to help them out with things they're having issues with.
Anyhow, welcome and enjoy your stay.

This appears to be correct place for new people to post. I am new. I am still catching up on the forum rules, so I'm going to try my best to lurk and get a feel for things before making a complete ass out of myself, but no promises.
I'm joining because I finally feel steady enough in my skills to start working on a particular arrangement I've had in my head for years. Hopefully until I've decided whether to post my (really, really shitty) test/concept recording to start getting advice from there or not I'll use good etiquette and start paying attention to what's going on with various peoples' mixes and such.
...I got up at two in the morning this morning, so if this reads as extremely dumb pretend that's why?

Hey guys!
I'm Ingen. Two years ago I discovered glorious bush raves and my life was radically changed as I became impassioned by electronic music culture. I'm 20 years old now and I've been learning to produce on Ableton Live for almost a year and discovered OCRemix through one of Zircon's amazingly helpful Zebra2 tutorials! Being an avid gamer, this community seems to perfectly fit my groove!
I think it's absolutely fantastic that you guys exist and provide such a constant stream of quality music and discussion. After working as a paralegal-graphic designer-web designer/admin in an office for 3 years I've come to realize that the 9-5 desklife is not for me... music is what I want to do, and I aspire to be a sound designer/producer, and have been slowly teaching myself in my spare time... the learning never ends, and the feels are amazing.
Here's some general stuff about me, for kicks:
Favourite Games:
Day of the Tentacle
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Majora's Mask
Half-Life 2
Pokemon Blue
Final Fantasy X
Mass Effect
Battlefield 2

Hey all, my name is One-Winged Angle. Probably like a lot of you, I have been lurking here for a while. I've downloaded Remixes for about a year and a half, but only recently have come to the conclusion that I would like to get more involved with one of my favorite websites than just passively taking! Hopefully there are some ways I can give back to OCR, because I listen to OCR remixes a lot :P It's my "homework music."
At some point in the near future, I'd also like to get into remixing, but I really don't have any kind of musical background other than choir - I can barely read music. So, that looks to be a ways off. But maybe someday I'll be good enough to submit some stuff to OCR. In the meantime, however, I can definitely tell people when I think their stuff is good!
Can't wait to meet everybody and get to know all of you!

Hello, I've been a long time gamer and admirer of the remixes and remixers emerging from this community.
I would consider myself an amateur when it comes to production but I'll divulge some details. I use FL Studio though I'm interested in incorporating or switching to Reaper in the future, and style-wise I gravitate towards dance, breakbeat and new age (ironically contrary to my nametag, haha.)
As I fail to have any attainable ideas of my own at the moment, I suppose I'll be browsing through the requests board and making note of applicable tips in feedback to start with.

As I fail to have any attainable ideas of my own at the moment, I suppose I'll be browsing through the requests board and making note of applicable tips in feedback to start with.
Hi Turbo. Please have a good stay. Make yourself at home!
1 question tho. Why change FL studio for Reaper?

Thank you :)
The routing seems more malleable, but I wouldn't be surprised if I overlooked some functionality in FL which diminishes the differences. It might be something trivial in the long run, but I'm somewhat meticulous.

Hello all. I've been a fan of OCRemix's work for a long time, and as a result I was inspired to follow in the footsteps of fellow remixers/composers. Music is a serious passion; I have a music background (bassist over 10 years, and vocalist over 5) and I also love video games. A goal of mine is to compose music for games one day, and my first step towards that goal is joining this community for advice and guidance. Some of my favorite composers are Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Yoko Kanno, Yuki Kaijura and Koji Kondo.

Those are some great choices for favorites you've got there - most are mine, too. :-D Welcome to the community - I hope you find the community a big help on your road to becoming a composer.
(Also, as a side note, if you're looking to start contributing musically right away, I know there's several projects looking for extra vocalists. ;-) )

Long time fan of the music here, ever since I found out about relics of the chozo. Figured since I've graduated from school and might finally have some free time on my hands I'd try and contribute something to the site.
I mainly play guitar (acoustic, electric, bass; all sorts of styles) and sing (baritone/tenor range), but I also dabble in electronic stuff (mostly to add "atmosphere" to guitar-driven music).
My favorite video game music is mostly from the SNES/n64 era (a.k.a my childhood), especially:
zelda (lttp,oot)
donkey kong (country/64)
super metroid
final fantasy(2,3 or 4,6 depending on your perspective)
chrono trigger
mega man x,x2,x3
earthbound (hence the name )
actraiser
but I enjoy arranging all types of stuff for guitar/vox so even if I've never heard the music before I'd like to help (who knows, I might discover a new game I've missed out on)

Newcomer ahoy! About time I joined this place too...
In any case, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeffrey! I go by the handle VizardJeffhog on most sites. I'm one of the guys who help keep The Sonic Stadium (http://www.sonicstadium.org/author/vizardjeffhog/) running, and have been in that position since March 2012. I also help run Sonic Wrecks (http://www.sonicwrecks.com/author/vizardjeffhog/).
As for my background, I've been a pianist my whole life. I hope to expand electronically like many people have done, but I don't have the time, patience, or money for it at the moment...
However, that doesn't mean I don't put my talents to good use!
I've loved video game music my whole life. It wasn't until flashygoodness came along that I became inspired to arrange tunes on my keyboard.
On TSS, I've proposed the idea of a community music album, which some of you here may have gotten wind of. The Sonic Stadium Music Album 2011 (http://projects.sonicstadium.org/music-album-2011/) is the first of its kind as a community project, and is the first of a now yearly series of albums.
I've also contributed to the Sonic Paradox Remix Shorts (http://radio.sonicstadium.org/2012/08/sonic-paradox-remix-shorts-now-available/).
My YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/VizardJeffhog) channel is where I tend to upload my work first and foremost, by the by.
I hope to contribute my songs here at OverClocked, and to also gain some experience from this website.
It's a pleasure to meet you all!

Welcome to OCR! Also don't forget If you do have any ideas for a remix you can always post it on the ReMix requests board, you might be able to get someone to make a remix based on your ideas!
I actually have a large project in mind but I'm not a good director, or at least I don't think I'd be. Do you think I should just...throw my idea out there? I'm working offsite with a fellow friend of mine to come up with a definitive idea and then we were both going to pitch it. Haha, I couldn't find my post for awhile, so I apologize for the stalled response.

Hey everyone! I've been a long time listener, and just became a member! I really love the redone video game music everyone does, I've dabbled in it some myself, but I don't really get too far, I keep getting caught up in which programs to use and such. So I decided to join, hoping that I can learn something from the forums! For games my top favorites have to be Chrono Trigger, Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts, and Xeno Gears. I really want to learn how to spruce up older tracks, and how to remix them. Just wanted to stop in and say hi!

G'day All! My name is Steven.
As my username suggests, I'm an (admittedly Amateur) Euphist (Euphoniumist? Euphophonist?) I've been playing brass instruments for a good 15 years now, starting on Baritone Horn and later moving up to Euphonium, which I've been playing for 9 years now.
I've been listening to remixes for about a year or so now and I'm constantly amazed by the music that you guys release. I particularly love the remix albums, with NiGHTS: Lucid Dreaming and Chrono Symphonic being my personal favorites (so far!)

Good evening everybody ^_^
I've been meaning to write a post here for a while, but I'm notoriously terrible when it comes to posting on forums (even my own!), so yeah...belated hi's from me.
My name's Gav, and I'm a Brit. Sorry about that. I've been a fan of OC ReMix for...quite a while. I can't remember exactly when, I do remember Bomberfuzz & Gothic Sandy being two of the first ones I downloaded. Not even sure if they were newly released at the time!
I'm a huge SEGA fan, as I'm sure the avatar and sig should attest to, and I have my own little spot on the Internet over at RadioSEGA. Won't poist a link in case it's naughty, but it's easy enough to find. We've supported the Sonic/SEGA remixes and remix albums that you guys have released for a while now, especially the Sonic Zone Remix Comp from earlier on in the year. That was cool.
Anywho, I will try and post around a bit & not lurk. Be nice to get to know some of you ^_^
Thanks for reading!

Hey all! I'm Calvin. I've been frequenting OCR since about 2002, all the way back when I was in middle school. I have fond memories of listening to remixes on the school bus. Great way to tune out all the noise. It's astounding how rowdy kids can be at 7 in the morning.
My interest in music carried on into college, where I majored in composition. I'm applying to graduate programs at USC and UCLA right now, but my ambition is not in concert music, as much as I love it. My passion is in game music, and it always has been. Coupling music with such an interactive, non-linear form of entertainment just opens up so many possibilities.
I've lurked around as a non-member and read the forums pretty avidly. Now I think it's high time I actually started participating in the community! Joining all the remixers here in the forums is sure to be exciting, and hey, maybe I'll even get posted someday :)

Welcome to OCR, we're glad to have you on board! If you're ever wanting to look for some critique for any music you're working on, don't hesitate to head on over to the Workshop forums (http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42)! You can also find projects looking for recruits or anyone wanting to collaborate with people in there as well!

Euphophonist? Euphonist? Hmm, not sure on that one (euphonist seems right to me, but hey, I'm a percussionist. I wouldn't really know). And yes, the albums here on OCR are absolutely amazing. In fact, I think I'll have to see which ones I don't already have and go ahead and download those.

Hello everyone! I am a very long time listener and I just recently joined OCRemix. I a wanted to join to be a part of the community and to possibly one day contribute. I am a programmer, musician and lover of music, life and videogames! I hope you will check out my soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/paul-vanpoucker) page. (I hope linking there is allowed here) All of the pieces there are original except for my latest track, which is a videogame cover. I recommend listeining to a few tracks as I have a varied style ;). Thank you. I am very excited to be a part of this community!

Heyy everyone! My name should be visible right above me so I'm not gonna say that I am YuriTajento  I'm a 20 year old guy from the Netherlands and I've been lurking around a little bit before registering. Big fan of video game music (overall I prefer lyricless music, like most soundtracks, over music with lyrics) and it's likely that the music is part of my love for these video games:
-Kingdom Hearts
-Pokémon
-Professor Layton
-Patapon
-Epic Mickey
-Henry Hatsworth
-Rhythm Paradise
-Rayman
"But what the heck are you doing here, you nutjob?" Glad you asked :< Well, I wish to improve my (almost non-existent) music-producing skills and try to make remixes of aforementioned games. I have so far worked with Anvil Studio (and Mario Paint Composer... kind of :-P), but AS was pretty limited and at the same time challenging for me to get the hang of. I might get something like Cubase pretty soon, but I'm not sure if it's the right program for me yet. (I am also not too good with computers)
I do have some musical skills though. I have played flute, drums, guitar and even marimba in the school band, but most of that was a long time ago. I have just started with keyboard lessons but the first lesson proved that I got the hang of the basics... I also was able to play "Father Jacob" on the climbing frame when I was six without any music lessons. Truly, a prodigy was born... and a modest one at that :-P
Anyways, my final goal in... life, I guess, is to create music for movies and video games. I will try to get into an art school next year, but then I have to practice. So... here I am.
Sorry for this messy mess of an introduction
PS: When I click on this thread in the menu, it opens on the very last page, instead of on the very first (the one from Mahaboo). Is that supposed to happen? It's kinda weird.

For some reason I like it that way. Don't ask me why, but I've never found it to be an issue.
However that probably has to do with the fact that OCR was the first forum I ever signed in to, so that might explain some of it.

Hihi! I've been poked into joining, I daresay, but I have a <3 for music and enjoy learning and playing piano pieces from videogames. My audition piece into my current college (which I'm graduating from at the end of this year!) was Close To Home from Uncharted Waters II by Yoko Kanno (<3!!)
With my current limitations of a Mac platform, I haven't got my gaming on much. BUT:
- WoW. I was doing the Draenei Female DPS Pally thing before the game got boring and I waved my uber-plated Draenei baibai. :(
- MapleStory was my very first MMO at the tender age of 14. I remember enjoying figuring out the login screen music because it was so pweety :D
- Horror games held my fascination, but I can never play them because of the heart attacks. The Fatal Frame series would always hold a special place in my heart in a love/hate kind of way.8O
- Peers who have played L4D and L4D2 with me are surprised I recognize the oncoming specials by their musical cue.
Tools of the Trade:
- Pro Tools
- Logic Pro
- Reason (sometimes)
- Piano (I had a grade 8 in the electronic organ and ABRSM Theory Grade 5, if it counts)/ the 61-key novation controller that's dusting somewhere in my apartment o.o
Why am I here? While I've dabbled in music recording and production, I really would love to work in the videogame industry. I've hardly dabbled in sound design/remixing, and I think the stuff I have found on OCRemix would be fun as a stepping stone. Have I listened to much OCRemix stuff? Admittedly nope  . But I want to get involved, get that music-making on and get busy! :D Yoroshiku!

Good evening lads and lasses, come sit on uncle Adge's knee for a while. Get comfortable, 'cause I feel a gurt ol' post coming on...
So, to introduce myself... I'm a college student living in a small town in rural England. I'll be hitting the age of 19 in a couple weeks, which is good, 'cause I will have a legitimate reason for hitting the town on that day other than "'Cause it's the weekend...".
One of the courses I'm taking at the moment is music technology. And I love it. I hopefully will be taking a degree in music/audio technology next year, and at some point I will hopefully work in the industry at some level or capacity.
Talking about things I love, I'm very much into gaming, which would surprise nobody considering the nature of this website. I grew up with the SEGA Megadrive (Genesis across the atlantic), N64 and Gameboy as a kid and have progressed as a gamer through the generations, with myself currently owning a 360 and shortly will be on the PC gaming scene, which is as much of a relief to my mates as it is to myself (since they shall not hear any more moaning about how laggy my Minecraft is on my poor old laptop).
In terms of music, I am adept at using CuBase as a music software, with me learning more and more about it from each subsequent college visit. I'm also learning the intriciticities of recording instruments day by day, but I don't intend to do any recording at home any time soon (...but that's why the collab subforum is there, right?). In terms of instruments, I can only play basic keyboard, which I'm sure many of you know is sufficient enough in music production.
My musical influences derive mainly from Massive Attack/Tricky-esque trip-hop (I actually live about an hour south from Bristol, the home of trip-hop, and I go there quite a lot and intend to study there next year. You know, for that degree I mentioned earlier? But I digress...) whilst also incorporating some Kraftwerk electronica in the mix and some cheesy synth-pop sounds. My musical influences actually differ substantially from my musical tastes, which is mostly alternative rock, like Kasabian, Kaiser chiefs, Oasis/Beady Eye/Noel Galagher's High-Flying Birds, The Stone Roses and even some of The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks... plus a bit of ska/two-tone in the form of The Specials, Madness and Bad Manners (Wow, I want to incorporate more ska in my work now I've mentioned it) and some Massive Attack and, of course, some OverClocked ReMixes :)
"So Adge, what brings you to OCRemix, you sexy devil-of-a-man!" I hear absolutely nobody say because nobody ever speaks like that to anyone. (Except my parents to eachother, but less about that...) Plus this is a forum where we communicate via typed out words. But I'll give the benefit of a doubt that you would actually ask that question in that manner should we be talking in some type of high-class jazzy establishment. So I'll answer you anyway (and regardless I want to talk about this stuff in the first place!).
I come to OCR in order to get involved. Give and receive feedback, become part of a community, and most importantly of all, to hone my craft. In a couple of weeks I'll be getting a brand-spankin' new computer, a midi keyboard, ableton live software and a lovely pair of Sennheiser cans (About the same time I hit 19, theres no coincidence there...) and I intend to make some original music. It just makes sense to me to share my creations with you clever buggers so I can better improve myself in the practicalities of music production. Plus, creating a ReMix to the specifications that OCR adhere to gives me a solid aim to reach for when creating music whilst simultainiousy contributing to OCR's aim compiling high-quality remixes to celebrate VGM as a medium. Oh, and helping others is a pretty cool thing to do aswell!
Blimey, that took a awhile. You were paying attention, yes? I'll shall be taken quizzes later. Now run along kiddies, Uncle Adge needs a lie down...

Hello.
My name is Marc, I'm 26 years old from a city in the north of England called Leeds. Long time listener/lurker.
I've been a guitar player for about a decade now, teaching privately for about half of it. Spent a couple of years studying popular music at college, focusing on the performance side of things. Currently teaching a couple of times a week for a small, local not for profit company where I live, hoping to get into it fulltime in the near future.
I play a seven string guitar primarily, dreaming of the day when I get an Ibanez endorsement (If only :3).
Musically, I'm mostly into instrumental stuff - usually guitar based, but not exclusively. Consider myself pretty open minded musically. Influences ranging from guys like Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Petrucci etc, to Massive Attack, Juno Reactor and Mr Scruff.
Relatively new to the production/recording side of things, learning by doing, as I go along mostly. With a very DIY home setup approach.
Lately very much involved in the progressive/tech/groove metal side of things; Chimp Spanner, Monuments, Vildhjarta, Animals As Leaders and Meshuggah etc.
Play in a three piece of a similar style to Animals As leaders, called Nautilus, and have a solo project I'm currently writing for, called Ship of Theseus.
Favourite games of all time? In no particular order; Gears of War, Final Fantasy VI, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid Prime, Zelda OoT, Plok, Starwing, Pokemon G/S and C&C:RA to name a few.
Here to finally get involved with a community I've watched from afar for a long time, hopefully get some stuff released, maybe do some collabs etc. Currently working on a cover of Lance's Theme from Pokemon Gold/Silver.
But yeahhh, that's me in a nutshell >:3
CaptainFluffatun

I am CaptainFluffatun, though my real name is Tommy. Feel free to call me by either.
I began making music when I picked up guitar. I took up the instrument thinking I'd get chicks but hate it, and now I have no chicks but love the instrument. I wrote shitty metal music in a band that fell apart pretty quickly due to lack of participation from the members (myself included). I realized I worked faster on my own.
Around this time is the time I got into ponies (if you don't like them, I won't shove them in your face, though extend me the courtesy of not insulting me either), and simultaneously realized my love for film music. Using the help from that fandom, I built up my orchestral music production skills, and it is now my strongsuit. I find myself able to simply CREATE in orchestral music, without having to worry about producing the song properly.
But I'm not all cellos and violins, either. I love electronic music! Thusly, I took that up as well. I've made a few adequate songs, but they aren't amazing, and don't have a whole lot of reply value.
And that brings us to now. I joined this forum because I want to take my electronic music production to the next level. I want to make masterpieces, not songs. I guess I joined because I simply want help on electronic music production, and can offer my feedback on orchestral music production.
I use FL Studio for electronic and rock music, and I use Cubase 5 for orchestral music. I am proficient in both.
I suppose on a game remix forum, I should list games I like (in no particular order):
-Skyrim
-Cave story
-Minecraft
-Fallout

Obviously, there are tons more, but we'd be here all day if I listed them all. Those are just a few that came to mind instantly.
Other than that, I guess I'd just like to say I'm looking forward to my experiences here. The work I've heard from this site in the past is phenomenal - I just didn't think to join until now.

Hello everybody, I was going to post here last night but seemed like there was an issue getting in this thread and it took me to a blank page lol. I used to be here before, but I had an issue with my email address and had to cancel it (Long story, don't want to get to it)
My name is Michael, 21, and I go by the name DJ Max-E / MaxieDaMan on YouTube.
I'm a Freelance Music Composer & Music Producer, I've been a VG Remixer for almost 5 years (December 16 marks my 5th anniversary) and have been a producer for more than 5 years.
I'm currently composing for 2 school projects, an Indie Game entitled, "Breeze In The Clouds" with 2 amazing composers, "Alan Gee" and "Aivi Tran", and a fan game entitled, "Sonic The Hedgehog: After The Sequel".
I'm also currently in college for Video Game Design & Development and I am pushing to pursue a career in the Video Game Industry as a Music Composer.
DAWs I use are both FL Studio & Logic Pro 9. I used to have Cubase, and I barely remember how it works.
As much as I have my name out there on YouTube land, I will be registering on different forums and getting into as much as I can so I can benefit myself, musically, and share my love for video games altogether.
Links will be on my signature, and I'll also post here.

Hello,
My name is Braeden, as the name implies and i have been following OC for atleast 3 years now. People like Zircon got me into FL Studio and i have been messing with it ever since. Recently my computer formatted and i did not have enough room in my hardrive to store all my files so i will have to re-download FL Studio. Anyways, my talents are Singing, Acoustic Guitar (Still in the process of getting really good), and Electronic music. Music is just a hobby as I see no real potential in it but, playing is better than not playing so why not join to share a great thing in the world? I enjoy VG but the music is what i enjoy the most. When i hear songs like Super Metroids Red Brinstar i see myself in a open/closed world where nothing but mechanical organisms live. When i listen to Final Fantasy 6's battle music i feel like i wanna pull out a sword and hack the couch to pieces because a sense of excitement rushes trough me. I wanna show that i am worth it so if i announce a new song soon and it gets through, get ready for something ausome!
Braeden Loepke.

-Skyrim
-Cave story
-Minecraft
-Fallout
-Okami

By the way, considering your, erm, interests, I think you'll like this thread (http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35294). ;-)

And welcome to everyone who joined recently! It's great to see so many people interested in OCR! Make yourselves at home, and, if you ever want feedback on music, head on over to the Workshop boards!

Hello,
I'm Orrin (a.k.a ap3xultima)I'm 24 and am based in the UK, specifically Wales. I discovered this site back in 2005, around the time the Doom remix album was released, and only now getting into the forums due part to my shyness.
I've been making music for a while but got more serious into it around 2006 by going to college and university, the latter which I finished about 5 months ago. Education it seems has boosted my confidence.
I make music based on an the idea rather than limiting myself to particular music styles etc.
It makes for a more fluid workflow and whether I should be doing this or that, of course in the end music has no rights or wrongs.
I have been an avid video game fan from an early age and find it is the best entertainment medium overall. Its soundtracks as well as whatever my dad enjoyed listening to, is what caught my interest in music production and composition.
As a final thought, my favourite game of all time despite being a PC gamer, is Gunstar Heroes.

Hey, I'm Harold Jr. (OCR name: Jr(DoT) of SupaKool)I am an Applications Analyst by day and a Game music composer+producer by night (or whenever I'm not at work). I've been involved in creating original music since 2004 as a hobbyist and I've been following OCR for about 2 1/2 years. I started out with a demo version of Fruity Loops 3.56 and Reasons 3.0. I'm currently using FL Studio 10, Reasons 3.0, and Sonar X1.
I have an ear for all types of music given that I've been involved in band from the 6th grade all the way through college. However, as of late I've decided to get back into creating music and sharing it with the world. I have started a YouTube and SoundCloud page @SupaKoolEnt. I've also just submitted my first game remix as well. I hope to get to hear some great works and even collaborate with some of you too.

NEW NEWB ALERT
Heh. Hi.
I'm IceFlame, amateur gamer/game designer and artist/writer. Also a bit of a music enthusiast. Mostly active on deviantART and Comic Dish.
I've been listening to OC Remixes for about 4 years now, most of them without even knowing it due to them being ripped and mis-titled on music streaming sites. I was quite excited this week when I started browsing more deeply through OCR's game lists and found most of my old favorites!
I've played around with music here and there for a long time, I've almost always got music in my head, be it snippets of real songs or ditties off the top of my head (being ADHD my mind never rests x-x ).
But, I've never really had much formal music training.
Guess that kinda invalidates me being here xD;
I've messed around with Anvil Studio and I've made a few "remixes" of my own, copy-pasting MIDI pieces together from VGMusic.com, usually just choosing different instruments to make things sound cooler. Now that I work on a Mac I've been fiddling in GarageBand and managed to halfbutt an original song for my girlfriend...music came out okay, my voice not so much.
Been considering going back to college for music, or culinary arts, one of the two. I can't read music, the extent of my sheet-music reading is general knowledge of the whereabouts of a note and moving up/down in relation to how far up/down the next note is.
Technology tends to hate me and not work the way it does for others so...I might have a lot of "stupid" questions and/or "derp" moments when asking here about stuff ^^; sorry in advance if I pull a stupid.
My music preferences lie along orchestral (like Fantasia/Fantasia 2000), "epic" music like the stuff used for trailers, and various videogame tracks, especially Zelda and FF7. Maybe a bit of techno here and there but not too heavy on the metal and wubwub.
POINT BEING hopefully I can learn more here than I've been learning on my own. I have some ideas for game remixes, just not the technical or musical knowhow for pulling it off in a somewhat decent fashion.
And thus I stalk off to lurk upon the forum's offered resources.

Hey Orrin! That's an interesting view on how to approach music, and one I'd agree with and probably follow myself if I had the slightest skill in arrangement/composition. I'll be looking to hear what music you put up in the Workshop sections. Welcome!

Hello and welcome, Harold! I can relate to that experience that school band can give you; I played french horn from fifth grade through my senior year of high school, and it definitely opened up my ears to new types of music that normally I would've ignored, or disliked. I'll be sure to swing by your Youtube and give it a listen to.

Always good to meet a fellow fan of FF7's music and of epic orchestral pieces, IceFlame. :-) And don't be afraid to ask 'stupid' questions at OCR; I've asked plenty dumb questions in my time here, and have always gotten pretty good, helpful answers.
A hearty welcome to all three of you!

Ah yes, another newbie introduction thread. It seems I'm always at this level in one regard or another...
I'm Mecham. I'm 21, a senior in music composition with a minor in philosophy, I play the trombone and piano. I write for anything in any style. I currently intend on going into law school, but I would love to write music for any project on the side.
I profess more in writing music more than remixing. I don't really have any DAW chops (yet, I am buying myself Logic Pro for Christmas... unless I get advice otherwise.) I am, however, very proficient in Finale (I work as the piano lab techie at my university), and also I love tracker music: I write a lot of stuff in MilkyTracker and Renoise. Here's my Soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/mecham); it hosts most of my electronic compositions. If you are interested in any of my more traditional works, for trombone, voice, piano, jazz band, etc, I'd be happy to send you PDF's or Finale files.
PM me, whatevs. You'll see me in the competitions.

Hey everyone
My name's Salvador and I'm a huge gamer enthusiast. I'm currently a college student majoring in Marketing and minoring in either finance or management. I'm also the president of the game club at my college and enjoy running all the various events, tourneys, and hangouts.
I've only recently found out about ocremix a couple of months back and couldn't believe just how many songs and albums there have been created based off of video games. Ever since then, I've become a major enthusiast for vgm and constantly look for new songs and albums to listen to. I hope to keep getting involved and learn as much as I can about video games and video game music.
Feel free to PM, comment, and what not.

My name is Lauren and I've been playing trumpet for about 11 years now. I just recently graduated from University with a degree in Jazz Performance and am now looking for different avenues in which to contribute my music.
I've been an avid listener at OCReMix since my freshman year in college and finally decided to submit my first remix and connect with the community!
While my specialty is Jazz, I am proficient in all forms of music and am eager to work with you all. If you need a trumpet player on one of your projects just send me a PM and I would love to discuss the possibilities with you.

Hello Illustrious Peoples of OCRemix!
I found this site early in 2012 and have been coming back regularly since! I love video game music and I used to think that I was kind of odd for listening to the BGM for 'Frontier Village Dali' while doing my homework, or just enjoying a listen to the 'Aria Di Mezzo Carattere' in my spare time. So I was thrilled to find a site full video game music lovers that also happen to be amazingly talented musicians!
So, I've been downloading and enjoying tons of awesome tracks over the last several months and I get to thinking...(always a dangerous endeavor )...and I'm thinking: why can't I make some cool music too?! Then I get a bit of a reality check: because you don't know much about music theory or composing, and you haven't played your guitar much since you started college. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the hard part about having a discussion/argument with yourself--you know all of your weak points. Anyways, I've decided to look my ignorance boldly in the face--all Clint Eastwood style--and give remixing a shot in spite of it! In fact to spite it!
And that's my story...*from the peanut gallery: cool story bro!*. I know there are some places around the forums to find advice on remixing, so I'll start by looking there. However, if you'd like to throw out some advice out of the generousness of your heart, then please feel free! Or, perhaps, you're a newbie too? One who would like to join me on an epic quest to figure out how to make a remix and produce an excellent piece? Hit me up and let's get something rolling!
Be seeing you around,

Ahoy and greetings to all!
My name is Daniel J Rocha, but you may call me Dan, or 'Denden Daiko' or just 'Daiko' for short. For those of you who are curious, a denden daiko is basically a 'flammie drum'. :)
An avid video gamer at heart, video game enthusiast, soundtrack listener, a saxophonist and all that jazz. I'm expanding into the world of video game composing and remixing. Since I was about 7 years old I've been singing, humming, whistling, and replicating sound effects of all my favourite games, so I figured...20 years later, enough is enough. I'm finally tapping into my creative side and composing music, and I plan to start remixing soon enough.
I heard about OCRemix through a youtube video of the Mag2011 audio panel hosted by Andrew and Jillian Aversa, Jimmy Hinson, and Wilbert Roget. It was extremely helpful, and gave me great insight on how to kick things off, so mucho thanks to em :)
Without further ado, I am pleased to join, and look forward to meeting all of you on the forums, and taking it from there!
Cheers!

Hi guys I'm James, but I also go by iAcorn (InsaneAcorn) on my youtube channel, where I post gameplays/commentaries/whatever I like (even got some airsoft footage from my headcam up there).
Been a long time downloader on OCRemix and I thought it was time to put back into it. So I made an account and submitted something. Although I usually go by my full name when I release music, anything submitted here will be under the internet alias. It seems to be a requirement?
About me: Music Tech graduate, massive gamer and trying to make it in the Sound Design field of game development. Its pretty darn hard to crack in to!
Anyways I look forward to diving more into the community :)

Hi, My name is Jon. I've been following this site off and on for several years. Just look when I created my account! I finally came back after all these years and downloaded every single torrent in about a week's time. All 45 GB are now on my harddrive. It is a bit annoying how when I'm going through my winamp library, I have doubles of songs (Flac and MP3), but it's good to have both versions for multiple reasons.
Reading through some of these intros, I'm noticing a lot of people are avid video gamers or musicians. Believe it or not, I'm neither! I just really like the music this site delivers. I don't think you have to play games or play music to enjoy this site. I like nearly all styles of music (electronic music is probably my favorite as varied as it is). Keep pumping out those tunes and I'll keep downloading them!

Hello, my name is Ian. I'm a junior music education student at Northern Arizona University, where I also privately study percussion, and composition. I have been a visitor of the site for a couple years now, but finally got the sense to create an account so I can start contributing to this community in discussion, as well as hopefully sharing my music in the future.
I'm literally just beginning with remixing (somewhat different from any arrangement experience I have, and defenatly much more challenging for me than composition). I am however looking forward to learning to revitalize the themes that have brought me joy throughout my musical life.
So, I've finally decided to go ahead and register on the site after years of merely downloading and enjoying what OCR had to offer. I've been a fan of the site since '02, during OCR's previous version, when a friend of mine showed me McVaffe's "Cammy's London Drizzle" and CotMM's "Magus (Decay of Hope)". After that, I found this place, liked what I found, and have been downloading since. I had some ideas for possible ReMixes of my own to submit, but work, and doubt in my own ability, kept me from really doing anything about it, or even bothering to make an account here.
Fast-forward over a decade: I'm currently working on a BS in Computer Science, but I'm planning on changing schools and switching to a double major in Computer Science (Programming) and Music (Composition) in the near-future.
I'm a complete remixing n00b, but I have written some original stuff using Sibelius. I play trumpet mainly, and a little piano, but I've been out of practice for quite a while and I'm working on getting my old skills back. I hope to be able to submit something here in the near future.
Anyway, I'm happy to finally join the community. I look forward to learning a lot from those who have ReMixed before me.

By day, I'm a programmer for a promotional marketing and fulfillment company - the business behind the cashbacks, money-back guarantees and instant wins.
By night, I'm second in command over at RadioSEGA. Currently working on the 8th version of the website while adding new things to the current site, and breaking the servers in an attempt to bring new features. Also host my own radio show over there on Friday evenings where some of the music here is played, as requested.
I'm a trombone player and handbell ringer mainly although I like to pick up my guitar, ocarina, treble recorder and Etherwave theremin at home.

Just started out with DAWs and so getting feet wet with remixing. I've submitted a couple of tracks in but they are in the process of being heard as I know the judging panel are busy. Fingers crossed!!

I've been a fan of OCRemix since way back in 2006? 2007? I can't really remember. I was a member of VGMusic.com forums and as I recall this was the site everyone there idolized. When I was young and naive, I even submitted a few ReMixes of my own to the site, only to be told they weren't quite up to snuff.
Judges? You are too kind. They were terrible.
This year I'm 22, and I've been training in classical studies for the past four years. I fancy myself an above-average composer, and I'd love to make a living off of it (slim though the chances may be). I'm hoping to use independent game development as a platform to showcase my musical skills (and showcase it must, because I'm a terrible artist).
My favorite composers are John Powell, James Newton Howard, Joe Hisaishi, Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu.
My favorite albums are How To Train Your Dragon, Distant Worlds ~ Music from Final Fantasy, and the soundtrack to the SeaWorld show "Believe."
I play piano, violin, clarinet, guitar, ocarina and irish whistle/flutes. The majority of my composing experience has been with pen and paper, or at least in notation software, so I expect moving to samples and sequencers will be a bit of a chore.
I'm hoping to find friends here, and to get some good feedback on my arrangements and compositions! I will be composing in a strictly orchestra-oriented style with some occasional infusions of electronica!
I really do love video games and their music, and I'm excited to see what I can make of it!

I'm not new, but I've been away from ocremix for quite a while. To update anyone who cares, since my last appearance here on the forums... I am now 19, a US Soldier, and married. I enjoy techno, trance, electro and dubstep musics, as well as heavy rock/metal and almost every genre under the sun.
I would also like to welcome all the newcomers. If you aren't already aware, the community here is great. Good support, good people, good acquaintances to be made, great musics to be heard, mixposts and self-releases alike. Enjoy!

Why hello everyone here!
I'm Leonardo Millan aka LegacyCrono, 21. I work as a game developer, making whatever creative shit comes to my mind in the meantime which may or may not include music, and I'm a long time listener of the OCRemix library.
So, I've been trying to focus on learning more about making music recently, thus here I am. I've composed a piece or two for my own games in the past, you can check them out at https://soundcloud.com/legacycrono (also, check the games at my website (http://leonmillan.com/), they're pretty alright as well). Also leave comments there if you hated or loved 'em, because that totally rocks and I'll give you a hug if I ever meet you.
My skills includes bashing my M-Audio Oxygen 61 hooked up to FL Studio until it starts to sound like something I'd hear on the radio, then tweaking it until I can actually feel confident on using it for something other than making my neighbors angry. Well, most often I'll just sequence by mouse because dude, what do I know I'm a game programmer, not a pianist. I have no formal education on playing any instrument or music theory whatsoever, all I've learned was by self-study.
So yeah, I hope I can learn a bit so I can improve my soundtracks, get a grasp of sound design, find new contacts and people to work with, et cetera.
Aaand I guess that's that. Hey there everyone! :D

Hello everybody, thank you everyone for letting me join OC remix. I can't remember how long i've been a lurker here TEE HEE HEE HEE well not on the forums that will be just perverted but i mean on the actual OC remix site itself to listen to music and stuff.
Now that i've been making my own music for a while I recently started to make Video Game Arrangements and Remixes, etc, some of them i'd love to share with everyone and hopefully one day will be as good to host on the OC Remix website, which, if that ever happens I would be quite honoured.
As my name implies, i'm not really a "remixer" but I love to remix tracks....I don't know how that makes any sense.....I don't use any real turntables or anything. However I do use real instruments my recordings (SOMETIMES) sometimes I do not. So I guess my username means "I'm not experienced, but I love to play."
Please don't get worried about that statement.
I am encouraging critiques on my upcoming remixes being posted and I know some of them may need work so I hope you guys can help me out here.
Thank you very much and have a great day!
ps I did not come here to advertise, I came here to enjoy making remixes of my favorite video games. I consider the dreamcast to be the god console and Sonic the Hedgehog is the best so is Mario and I like a lot of old games.
WTF? How did this appear above everyone elses' messages? .......LOL......

So! I just recently joined this forum for a plethora of reasons, but at the moment I'm still "testing the waters" a bit. I've been making music for a good long while now, so I actually have a good bit of experience already. I've known about this site for a very long time actually, but I felt too intimidated by it for me to actually join. Thing is, I want to make a career out of my music. Specifically, the music for games. Where I live, there is literally no connections or ways to get started in the business, so I'm basically limited to the internet.
A few days ago I emailed Grant Kirkhope for some sage advice on getting started. He said that he got in by luck, but that going here would definitely be a big help. (He also was very impressed with my music so that kinda made my day!) SO, I broke down and here I am. I'm hoping to try to get involved with some indy game devs in the near future, given that this works out. In any case, I know this site will be beneficial to me :)
Now, I play a lot of games. I mean, a LOT of games. I don't really do the "remix" thing though, as I make more purely original stuff. I also write stuff in the musical style of game's soundtracks, but again, not really a remix is it... AH WELL! Maybe I'll start and see how critical these judges are.
In any case, i'm glad to be a part of this community now, and I can't wait to meet all of you!

Hey! I'm a bit of a newbie that's been making music on and off throughout the years. I've been listening to OCRemix for years now and someone of you guys, heck alot of you, are what inspired me into getting into serious music making. I've kept a good eye on the competition things and I've been impressed by everyone. I hope I'll be good enough to compete sometime.

Hey you all! I'm Andy! I've followed this site for quite some time, and I've dabbled in producing music since I was about 13 or 14 years old. I've never really thought about making remixes to post on here until now, so I FINALLY made an account! I look forward to learning more about the programs I use (FLStudio, Reason, and ReCycle) and refining my music skills with you all!

Be sure to visit Workshop and especially Music Composition & Production! :) That's the place where I've collected a ton of ideas&information. When you're feeling up to it, post a remix work-in-progress of yours to "Post Your Game ReMixes!", and you'll most likely get some helpful feedback on how to hone your touch and skills.

Hey everybody.
My name is Josef Falkensköld, I'm 30 and I've listened to a few of your remix albums and as a retro game nerd I absolutely love it. I've been making music for a few years now and I'm very impressed by the whole chiptune/retro sound cus I'm not very good at it :P Never the less, it would be a lot of fun to participate in one way or another.
I'm writing game music myself and music about games. I guess most of my recent stuff can be heard from my youtube-page: http://www.youtube.com/user/tankith (http://www.youtube.com/user/tankith?feature=mhee)
Also, how do you work out who gets to be featured on the albums? I'd love to give it a shot at some point even though I'm not good at the retro sound.
Heeeeeey everyone. I'm Erik, also known online as Jit, 22 years old and close to finishing college. I used to check on the site while in high school (like '05-'06, around there?) cause it was amazing to find this whole area of the internet where people took video game tunes and did cool stuff with them. I downloaded a bunch, and made an mp3 CD because I didn't know how burning CDs worked. Then sometime around the end of high school, I stopped coming around, I think it was because I didn't have speakers anymore, so trying to collect music was sort of a waste of time? Something like that. Anyway yeah, OCR has always sort of been this bastion of video games and music so now I'm trying to make myself unlurk and hang out and stuff.
As it is, I've been a pianist for like 13-14 years, decent at sightreading and picking stuff up, experience as an accompanist, awful at steadily practicing and working at sections over just running through a piece. And fingerings. Chops aren't horribly great either. Besides that, I've been making music on the computer for a few years (like, three); Homestuck is both what started me on that sort of thing and also got me a good amount of experience actually making things and releasing them and stuff. I think my production and composition are both sort of lacking, as far as that goes. Never tried remixing anything before, probably won't for a while either, cause hahahaha yeah no not up to that yet I don't think.
I guess as far as video games go, I was a playstation kid for ages, never got to play any of the n64 games, and then when I went off to college I couldn't bring games with me so I've been mostly just playing stuff on my computer for a while. All the next-gen stuff and the more current developments, I really haven't kept up with.
Anyway so yeah I guess that's me in a few rambling paragraphs. I've already been hanging out on the IRC for a few days, and just by what I've seen in there, this is a really vibrant place with tons of music-making and game-enjoying and it's insanely cool to hang around. Like, even besides me thinking it'd be good to hang around here for experience's sake, all the backlogs of music that have suddenly been shown to me, is gonna be like woooooah gotta take tons of time just to get through that all and there's a lot of crazy-cool stuff. Like SHEESH.

Album project directors have the final say on the matter. They usually personally invite some artists they want to have on the project. Then, most projects are opened to the public, and posted mixers are allowed to claim away songs without complications, and unposted artists such as you and myself have to audition to the directors and showcase their previous work, after which it will be determined whether or not they get to be a part of the album. That's the case for most projects, at least. Some are never opened to public.
Hope that clarified things; feel free to ask if something was left in the dark.

Really, it's what Riversound said. Some albums are open to the public, some aren't. Probably the best thing you can do is go to the Recruit/Collab forum, and the Project forum, and look for albums that interest you that have openings, then whip up a WIP of some kind and show it to the director of that album. And of course, refine your craft in the WIP forums. :-) I look forward to seeing you on an OCR album someday!

I dropped into this thread to say Hello . I've been going to this site for 3 years now (beginning in 2010), and have gone through every album and have checked out pretty much every song. This site has helped me so much with its music as I went through High School (graduated 2012), and still does today. I love video games and music, and am looking forward to contributing to this site.
I plan on remixing these games one day; Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Froggers Journey: The Forgotten Relic, Banjo Kazooie, Cocoto Fishing Master, and several others.....when I get an idea for them.
Looking forward to advancing my compositional ability through this site as well. I use Reaper, but only have the trial version. I am especially up for collaborating with someone so that I can get better at making music.

Hey guys names Gabriel Hinton. I jumped into making my own tunes for games and remixes around 2005 sometime and I'm still making my way up. Though I've come a ways. I've visited this site off and on and loving the mixes and music people make around here I thought why not just fall in,share and give my two cents here and there. Heck even pick up some tips and other things while around.
Anyways great being here and can't wait to search around for some nice ear candy.
Quart de Carton
03-21-2013, 05:25 PM
Hi !
So... hum... yeah. Hello everybody, I'm Quart de Carton. I'm 21, and I'm French, so I may or may not do a few mistakes here and there. However, if this happens, please, do point it out : I am currently studying in a university in order to obtain an English Language, Litterature and Civilisation degree. And I'm on my third and final year, so making a dumb mistake can be a problem, even if it's a common one.
Now that that's said, I've been quite the frequent visitor of this website for several years (actually since I discovered this website back when I was about 12 or something). And, well, I'm a fan. I'm definitively a fan. Not of everything, of course, but both the concept and the overall level of quality of the remixes one can find on this website are admirable. So yeah, there is that.
The thing is, I've been doodle-deedling around with the whole "making music and remixes with your computer" for quite a while now. I started out with Melody Assistant. A nice software but... quite limited. It was fun, and I learned a thing or two, but it was mostly just me experimenting with basic composition stuff. Quite recently, since last year in fact, I started using FL Studio. And it's a LOT better. Yeah.
Still though, I'm quite the beginner. And I make a lot of mistakes. I only know the basics of solfčge, and I don't play any live instrument. I've always wanted to learn to play the piano, but piano lessons tend to be very expensive. Same thing with renting a piano. And my family never was really wealthy nor interested enough to allow me to do so. I had the occasion to take guitar lessons, but as much as I love the sound of the instrument, it really just wasn't my thing. I still plan to learn the piano though, one day, when I'll be in a situation more suitable to do so. Therefore... yeah, right now I'm kinda stuck with note-to-note, by ear composition. But hey, that's cool enough.
As I said though, I'm just starting out. I've only been "serious" about trying to make music decent enough to be listened to for less than a year now. I do need constructive feedback if I want to get better, and it's hard to find any around me.
So... here I am !
I'll soon post my currently only remix work worthy of anyone's time (at least I hope so) as a WIP project, so if you have some time to kill, go check it out ! It would make me all kinds of happy.
Well not all kinds but...
Yeah.

Hey OC Remix
Obviously, I'm new here and I've only just discovered this site thanks to a bunch of cool and insightful videos (MAGFest 9) about Freelance Game Music Composers found on Youtube (so I guess I owe a big thank you to Josh Whelchel and all the cool people present at these panels).
Late to the party, yeah, I know.
Was thrilled to see this community exists because making music for videogames is definitely what I aim to do. So I can't thank enough the uploaders for showing me the way to here.
I'm Dom, from Montreal, Quebec, I have an extensive recording sheet yet nothing has (yet) to do with videogames, unfortunately.
I've also had a couple of music deals, publishing contracts and the likes, so I consider myself very serious about this. Music is what I want to do, no matter what or how.
You guys will have to forgive me, I've never done any remixes (I recorded hundreds of songs, but I tend to be more an organic composer than anything else).
Since the aforementioned videos explained that this community is much more than remixes, I thought I'd come here anyway and introduce me and my work.
I consider myself a story-oriented gamer now, and I believe my music is like the games I enjoy playing nowadays... cinematic, emotional, very diversified.
And quite often, dark.
Right now I'm mostly doing music for movies and short flicks (as well as writing for various international artists), but what drives me is gaming, because I tend to have a pretty big musical vision, and I like to do things a little bit out of the box, and I believe it's easier to achieve these things in gaming vs. cinema if you ask me.
Influences :
Nobuo Uematsu, Akira Yamaoka, Michiru Yamane, Kondo, etc, etc.
Games :
Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Old(er) Resident Evil, Old(er) Silent Hill, Castlevania, Medievil 1, Fatal Frame, Zelda, the list goes on and on...
As well as making instrumental music, I like to make pretty cool videos of those said songs.
It's on my Youtube, but more of that later!
:)
Also, my favorite color is... red.
Nice to meet you all

I'm Kevin Reay. I go by quite a few names on the Internet, this one being just one of them. I'm a suburban transplant who currently lives out in the Land of Really Bad Internet Connections for Top-Dollar, otherwise known as any area outside of the Québec City-Windsor corridor in Ontario, though specifically a township known as Stirling-Rawdon. Canadian Internet sucks. Be warned, you may see me rant about Bell Canada a lot.
As for music things, like so many others here, I happen to use FL Studio. My plugins include V-Station, Synth1, and other such pieces of awesome.
So yeah, uh, hi, I guess.

It's good to meet all of you! Have anyone done any good remixes lately? (regardless of submission, acceptance, or rejection)
I've only done one game remix so far. I submitted it back in Nov. '12, but I don't believe anyone heard it. I will do some more for fun, but I'd like to try something much different than the usual games that get remixed. However, Sonic, MegaMan, and the Street Fighter series are always fun too. I may take a gander at some of the music from Street Fighter 2010 (NES). It was a pretty cool game back in the day!

Hello everyone! My name's Andrew Favor (Favor on these forums). I've been lurking around on here for a few years and been downloading remixes from the site for quite a while, but I've never actually gotten involved in the forums or posted anything.
I'm very much a lover of video game soundtracks (I have my itunes library full of selections from different games). Some of my favorite soundtracks come from the pokemon, metroid, and kirby series.
Recently, I've been inspired to try my hand at remixing some of my favorite tracks, but I have no experience with composing and producing music on my computer. If anyone has any advice for what programs to use, tutorials, ect., please speak up. I am looking to remix this source http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgMHWxN2U_w, among a few others. I do have some musical experience, as I was in a concert band class during my 7th-12th grade years of school (I'm able to play the clarinet somewhat well).
tl;dr, Hi, I'm looking to start remixing and have no idea where to begin. Halp!
Anyways, I'm glad to be here and I hope to become part of this community :)!!

Hello world - of ocremix, Journey Mechanism (or just JM) here. I've actually been around awhile, mostly just listening to the music and reading random threads. It's good to find a community that also enjoys video game music.
Looking forward to joining this forum!

Oh herro!
I have a remix approved here, and I've been waiting a while for it to get uploaded. So in the meantime, I thought I'd introduce myself here and listen to as many remixes as possible! My brother and I make up the band, but I'll be more active here.
If anyone wants to hear our Majora's Mask submission before it gets uploaded, here's the link:

Hey everybody! Neifion here.
For as long as I can remember, I've loved video game music. Unfortunately, most of my friends growing up thought that was weird ("video game music?? What's that??") It's freaking awesome that there's a huge community of "my people"! Like many of you other newbies, I've been listening to music here for a long time (ever since Kong in Concert back in '04). After spending the last few years improving my skills, I'm finally looking forward to submitting my first remix!
Good to meet you all and looking forward to an endless supply of amazing music for years to come.
Oh, and I use Cubase Artist and mostly EastWest Quantum Leap stuff for my samples.

Hello, this is [SUBJECT NAME HERE]!
After making my own music for 15 years and loving video game music even longer, I've finally joined this wonderful site. A Big Giant Thanks to the awesome Big Giant Circles and zircon for leading me here (and for their music of course)!
Contrary to the usual VGM history encountered here, my first love came as late as the PlayStation 1 era, with CoLD SToRAGE's soundtrack contribution to Wipeout 2097/XL. Aside from that, I'm a PC gamer, so my most-loved soundtracks are of PC games. My favorites include C&C Red Alert, Machinarium, Shatter, Total Annihilation and inMomentum, to name a few.
Being mostly into racing and puzzle games on PC, I've never played even one of the current Top 5 remixed games here (and only two of the Top 30). My knowledge of their soundtracks is therefore very limited, so I intend to widen the spectrum a little and remix some less-featured games. My platform of choice is Reason, so far with factory sounds and synths only. I'm open to ReFill/Rack extension recommendations.
My first video game music remix project is Gothic 3's "Vista Point", done in melodic breakbeat style. Unfortunately the 2006 release puts me out of the PCReMix Initiative's focus, but nevertheless the PC section could use a few more entries in my opinion.
So, this is exciting! I shall delve into the forums!
