Afternoon, everyone!
Another n00b here, though only by my registry date. I have frequented this site to download music for AGES, but have just never bothered to register on the boards until now.
Anyway, nice to be here!
Welcome.

What is "GenDisc"?
It is the General Discussion forum (now just the "General" forum). It is the primary forum on OCR and the most recently posted in threads there are displayed on the front page. The forum is moderated, but not too heavily (you don't need to censor your language).
Just FYI, this wasn't just in response to you, but to anyone else who is interested.

Just read through the newb/tech help forum, and try not to make any topics like "OMG CLOUD FROM FF7 IS SECKZY!!!1" and you'll be JUST fine.
Some people never learn this though.

I'm new here, (duh) and just wanted to say "hi". Hi. I've been downloading Remixes for a long time, and love them a lot. I'm a musician and a gamer. It's all I do, and I don't know anyone that plays more games than me. I like writing and want to be a writer someday. I've ben to a ton of other forums, and all of them for long periods of time, so I'm not really a newb. I'm not like those annoying newbs that spam and place the same thread everywhere in the forums. When you see me you're not like, "Woah. That guy's annoying." I get GI magazine, and have been subscribed to it for a year. I hope to have fun at these forums, and make people laugh with all my stupidities.

Also, don't bother making a comment about LJU's typing if you do go to Unmod. It's all been said before.
Yes, it looks as if he is drunk when he types, yes, his sigs are vulgar, no, he is not stupid. Anyways, it should be noted, that sarcasm is used a lot in UnMod. Get good at recognizing it, not that it's very difficult to do so, but every now and then, someone will become deeply offended at another's sarcastic remarks, and making a big deal out of it just marks you as an easy target.
Oh, and welcome nooblets.

Hmmm, I really wanted to avoid saying anything in this thread, but I suppose this is a fairly decent way of introducing myself and a convenient excuse to explain the genius behind why I'm here, so...what the hell?
So hey. Really, the only reason I registered is because when I would read these things, people would get concerned. So concerned, in fact, that they would bribe me to stop. Of course, in time they began to stop bribing me, so I'm stepping it up and posting now. Yesss, now bring on the bitc...umm, nevermind. Let's just say they aren't bribing me with ice cream. Hmmm, what else should I mention....oh yesss, I completely forgot. I write music and plan to be remixing soon, so hopefully you'll be able to hear some of my work within the next couple months.
Well, that about covers everything. G'nite, whippersnappers...

Alrighty then, I go by the Gold Dragon of Twilight (Its in Jap.), and I suppose that I should post here to ensure that my already fragile personality isn't further crushed by my lack of competence... Oh well... This is the first time I have ever [EVER!!!] used a forum in my life, and I was hoping I could at least come here to share my time with some fellow video game enthusiasts. I am completely clueless on a lot of the abbreviations that are used freely around here, like the "pwed" that was in response to my first post. Is there any def of the thing, and I have used a search engine and get some kind of government bill... I dunno...
I guess I'm obligated to talk a little about myself as well. As you can see from my sig, I am a perspective concept designer for video games, and am presently in college to pursue my lifelong dream of creating them myself. I come to the forums to look for the present consumer outlook and see what people want and don't want in a game nowadays. I was first into'ed to OCRemix by Terra in Black, and now I come back on a regular basis for inspiration (Thank you Beatmainia 2DX 'Kick your A' and Wild Arms 'Not Alone in the World' for inspiring C.O.P.E.) Presently I am here to find a way to manipulate the course of forum conversations to further my market research of those who actually play games. Hardcore Gamers like myself...
Which brings me to a question. Would anyone know where or if I should post a topic on the current state of Japan? I know that some of the members here have to be from Japan or at least visited before, and I want to know what its like to live there from a natural source... I can get plenty of technical stuff from the net, but I want personal Exp. and real opinions. Its needed for a work I have in progress... I have no pen pals, I fear chat rooms like the plague, and I missed my chance to go there myself my Junior Year of HS over a stupid Passport!!! But anyways, does it belong under politics and economy or is that a General type message?
And to conclude (DANG! Every Time he Writes it's a BOOK!!) I'd just like to say:
1. I'm just about as Anti-American as a person in the Marines can be... (He's not in the Military, he just grew up with a bunch of Jar-Heads)
2. I'm just about as black as Vanilla Ice cruisin' down MLK Blvd. in a Caddy with Hydrolics. (Give it up man, now you're trying too hard...)
3. I'm obsessed about video games, and I hope that with positive input from others on this forum, I can help make someone's console dream become a reality. (Man, you were just saying that so you could have a round three remarks)
And finally, the person in the Parentheses is usually Mike... He'll keep us on the same page when necessary.

You would place something as trivial and meaningless as a post count above custom, something sacred which has lasted throughout the ages? Hmmm...tsk tsk tsk, bad priorities, but if I must give in then I must...I shipped the $5 using UPS, but unfortunately most of that was spent on packaging and shipping....but really, enjoy your 29 cents.
Some insight: I worked for UPS for awhile, don't be expecting that package for a long, long time...

Hi. Yeah, so, about me.. I'm a newbie, but I posted a bit on the Politics, Philosophy, and Religion board before realizing there was a board for newbies. Hopefully I won't stick around too long; I enjoyed the heated discussion back there..
Actually, everything needed to know about me is in my profile, and you can find out everything else yourselves as we go.
EDIT: Check out the Philosophy board.

If you put it in UnMod, it will most likely end up involving sexuality and dirty talk. Your best bet would be to put it in General. If it starts to get inappropriate (which isn't too likely to happen in General), the moderators will move it to UnMod.

Hello everyone. I'm Tyler, and I've been addicted to this site for some time now.
Chorus: Hello Tyler.
I'm a lifelong and avid gamer from the Northwest, and I just felt it was time I start contributing to this site in a siginificant way. I'm a sophomore in college working toward a degree in journalism, but my true passions are music and gaming. I guess this site fits me perfectly. After hearing some remixes for the first time, I said to myself, "man, I wanna be able to do THAT!" (goat's Purple Heart, etc. :) ) So I've recently been toying around with Reason and FL, but to be honest, I'm confused as hell and have NO IDEA how music of such high caliber is produced from said software. I suppose it'll come in time...if anyone is willing to work with an extreme newbie, feel free to IM me or drop me a line (or I suppose you could just reply on this thred...)
Anyway, that's me.

I recently saw a post about a racing league that OCR has. Since some of you guys race, I would like to ask the site owner and the makers of the logos a question. Since I have no clue who those people are, I'm going to ask you, the OCR people, who they are. I guess you could PM me, email me (tmwde3@yahoo.com) or IM me (rsnake54).
Thanks,

Long time lurker...First Time Poster.
I've been lurking around OC ReMix for about a year. Mostly just listening to remixes, and reading reviews. I love this site. Anyway. I thought I posted on this thread once, but I couldn't remember. Just saying Hi.

Thanks,
Derb
Well, I don't know if this has been taken care of yet.
The racing thing you saw was the UnMod racing series, being played on KyleJCRB's computer, on some racing game. COMPLETELY unrelated to the site.
No it wasn't taken care of, and thank you for clearing that up for me. :)

How's it going?
Oh I'm fine thanks.
My Real name is Daniel Evan Wilke Koos.
I was born 11:59pm, April 12, 1986.
And That's when the trouble Began....
I currently reside in Burlington, Ontario...
In Canada!
Sorry.
I am a bit patriotic, but let's not get into politics.
So... a bit about me...
I am a big fan of both electronic and classical music, and obviously video games.
I Have without a doubt a "unique" personality. i am an avid reader and chess player.
I am also co-captain of my school's trivia team, and i sing bass in the choir.
I have a weird/special(the kind that's ride's the small bus)/unique sense of humour, and to illustrate that.. My three favourite comedians are Levi Mcdougall, Emo Phillips, Brian Regan, and favourite group: Monty Python.
I love Comic Books. My father is a Priest in the new apostolic church. I work a little Caesar’s. 100 percent German heritage.
Personal Problems: ADHD, Epilepsy, and some other stuff
OK. That is a start
I came into this forum to learn. Any one seen the Karate Kid? Well I am here to play the "Daniel-san" to you're "sensei". I know very little about both the culture and technology surrounding Electronica and Techno. So as I said, I came here to learn, and have fun.
thanks for reading. :)
P.S. Is there an ass kissing forum? i did not mention my favourite mixes or mixers but have a lot of compliments to give out... oh well... wait... here i go anyway.
YOU ALL ROCK!!!!

09-14-2004, 03:51 PM
Hey all. Black Mage here, first time poster, long time listener.
A friend of mise first turned me on to OCR a couple of years ago and I've been downloading ever since.
My fav mixes tend to be of the orchestral genre, though I don't limit myself. I recently found the Relics of the Chozo and it utterly blew me away! I've burnt it to audio cd and even went so far as to make a complete cd case of it (I'll post the pics sometime soon). Then last night I saw the announcement of the completion of Kong in Concert, I downloaded the first song, and once again it blew me away. So I took advantage of the campus' uber download speeds to download the rest of the project this morning. I can't wait to get home and listen to the whole thing. This will also give me another excuse to design another cd cover/case.
I'm gonna stop babbling now, so I hope to get to know everyone in the forums.

Hi everyone!
My name's Ryan Thompson, and I'm a 19 year old music major (vocal performance and composition) at Iowa State University. I first visited the website around 3 years ago when one of my friends told me something he did got put up on the site.
My voice is definitely the number one thing that gets me through the day...I'm always singing something, in whatever octave. I've a range <ego> from low F on bottom of the bass clef to high G on top of the treble </ego>
I've always wanted to arrange things, but never had good enough equipment/technical skills. A year of college as a computer science major (yuck) has changed that, and I hope to eventually have time to remix something of my own.
Anyway, thanks to DarkCecil13 for getting me started here (really, thanks to both of the Mruzik guys for getting me to think about changing my major).

Ello all,
I've made a brief introduction of myself in the WIP forum, but I'll just say another quick hello here. Been surfing here for a couple of years now, and am muchly impressed with some of the music here. In fact some of my influences come from OCR artists. :D Hopefully my music'll be able to improve with help and feedback from fellow artists.

hey it's Daniel.
I have a small technical question that I do not belive is worthy of an entire topic and causing moderaters stress.
So...
Can anyone tell me if avatars can be imported?
If so how would I accomplish this, and by following which guidelines?
Thanks a lot,
Daniel

There's no way to get your own avatar on the site, you're stuck with the pre-selected ones. There are a few reasons for this, such as more control over what's shown, bandwidth issues for other sites and size issues causing the image to be resized or having the ability to warp the tables.
There's been topics about it before, we don't mind them.

I'd think this would be a good addendum for the first page newbie guides because a few of them are trying to step up to the loud-mouthed people:
- Don't try to argue with Nekofrog, you'll waste your time. He knows every cop-out insult in the book. Don't try to question his hipocrisy either.
- Firedrake plays the skin flute to the [size] tag every night. That's just his writing style.

Meh, I’ve been gone for a little while and have just returned and although I post very infrequently my brief observations of this “Neko” fellow seems to be of just your average troll. It’s been said a million times to just ignore such individuals but people never seem to get the hint. Where there are forums there will be trolls, that’s just something we will all have to deal with.
I suppose I could add a bit about not responding or encouraging such behaviours by refusing to respond to nonsense posts or topics rather than single out a certain individual. When Neko is gone another will take his place.

Especially w/ Halloween coming up, I can really use some of the 'spookier' stuff as fodder for my annual outdoor display  ... BTW has anyone managed to come across a copy of the 'Killer Kuts ' CD that Nintendo put out back when they were introducing KI to the SNES? Call me Tasogare (or some version of that), and I've been listening to OC Remixes for a couple years now. I'm a teenage girl who happens to prefer talking about video games instead of hair and makeup. Long story short, I go to high school in a boring city in Northern California (boring if you've lived up here for over a decade).
My favorite songs are pretty much ANY Donkey Kong Country remix, and a lot of Chrono Trigger ones. I'm also a fan of random anime/jpop songs, as well as Linkin Park, and obviously video game music.
I hope I'm welcome in a not-so-perverted way, though I don't get much chance to go online (with school and homework and such).

Hey, how can i move a thread from GenDisc to, say, politics, religion so forth?
Sorry but you can’t; only the mods and admins have that kind of power. You can however, delete a post or thread you have made if no one else has replied. If someone has replied though, you’re kind of stuck.
You could always try PM'ing a Mod though and asking them if they would move it for you. Just keep in mind that they are not obligated to do so. The list of Mods can be found under Community => Groups.

Hello.
I've been coming here for quite a while... about a year or two. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get my hands on as many remixes as I'd have liked to. A relatively diligent schedule, an extremely selective nature, and a sluggish 56k dial-up modem are to blame. But, what I have heard are good quality... I've recently taken a liking to "Nikki Learns a Song" by Ailsean, "Rainbow Snowland" by Dhsu, and "Green Amnesia" by Disco Dan.
I've ignored the forums for the most part, although I've read reviews and rustled through interesting topics, particularly the one concerning the recent decease of the Chrono Trigger: Resurrection project.
Ah, I think I've detailed myself quite enough. Good day.

Well, I've been cruising the site for the last couple days, gotten some songs, and I really like what I've found. This music is amazing and I definately want to be a part of it. Anyway let me introduce myself. I'm Lizzroid. I live in Seattle and I'm 16 years old. I havent made any remixes yet, but I'm sifting through a ton of articles on the site to make sense of it. Thanks.
Oh yea, sorry to sound like a complete moron, but what is Fruityloops and Reason?

Hello!
Oh yea, sorry to sound like a complete moron, but what is Fruityloops and Reason?
Yup... way to make yourself sound like a complete moron... they're two separate things ;-). Not that I know any more about them than that they both are tools to make electronic music with...

Hello everyone, Raulimus here and I'm a newbie to the forums, actually to any forums. The site is awesome, the forums are really nice and helpful and the music here is fantastic. Hmm love games, anime, cartoons, figures and that sort of stuff. Hit me up on AIM at VegetaBogard1658, or make me a friend on Battle.net "Raulimus". I also have my blog at 1Up.com under "KokiriKid84". Fighting games and RPGs are mostly my favorite, but my friend just got me into shmups and I'm loving them mainly any Gradius and Ikaruga. (Please lemme know if you recommend any other good ones) Well I guess that's it for me, I hope to have a sig soon. Stay cool, later.

Anyhow, hello to any/all fellow college grads out there. I've been an OCRemix follower for 5+ years now, and have lurked in the forums for the past few months. My hope: to bring some vestige of post-adolescent sense into the wackiness that is an open online forum. See ya around...

Hi. I'm HS. I hate that 'covers' are frowned upon. I personally frown upon tunes that take the original and change it so much as to be a slap in the face to the original composer. That's just me. I'll probably never have a tune on this site for that very reason...
It's just really strange how some songs are considered a 'rip' ('funk dreamer') and others aren't ('bar hopping')...would be nice if someone could explain it for me...and yes, I DID read the submission guidlines. ;)
Anyway, good day to you all. :)

There are quite a few people who think like you do - trust me. A rip is when a song takes the MIDI and does instrument changes. I've noticed as of late that this term is being passed around with increasing consistancy - its because some of the judges aren't really qualified to be saying some of that stuff but they do anyways cause they're dumb. Also - a remix that is really far from an original composer's stuff isn't necessarily bad - it shows other ways the composer could have taken from the original. A composer doesn't think that this is bad - its merely a different direction that the composer could have taken and as such isn't really that bad as you make it sound like. Anyways - glad to have you here!

hi
i'm levvy and i wanna be a mongoose dog
couple of quick questions (i'll ask here cos they really don't deserve an entire thread)
a) is #ocremix and the forums the same community? a few other forums i've posted on i've jumped in irc and said hi and everyone's liek "wtf who are you". so yeah are they generally the same group of guys or seperate entities?
b) why are everyones sigs so big and can i start a petition to shrink them? on a more serious note, is there an option i missed somewhere to browse without sigs showing?
c) i'm after some advice on buying instruments (primarily a new synth) but i was after a little more depth than the nub guides provided. are there any particular people around here worth asking, or better yet, an existing thread adressing this (this question is bound to have been done already)
Smoke
10-14-2004, 04:43 PM
a) They're pretty much separate communities. Other than a few members being in both, there aren't many similarities.
b) They're not big. You're just running in a low resolution ;). And a petition won't help. For the final question: No. If you use Firefox you can use it to block images from specific servers by right-clicking and selecting "Block images from <domain name>".
c) Check the Remixing forum for a thread, or ask in there with a new topic.

Yo everyone. Yet another new guy. I go by the name Wicked, as you can see. I've been hanging around OCremix since 2003 but never really cared to visit the message boards. I have enough of them bookmarked already but now that I'm half interested in remixing, I figured I might as well start participating. I'm sure everyone and their mom is interested in remixing on THIS board, though. Chances are I'll never make a remix just because I seem to have the worst grasp on all of the software. I've downloaded the demos for Fruity Loops and Reason and looked at what was there, tried messing around with it for a while but came up empty-handed. I'm planning on ordering the FL Producer's Edition when I start doing a little budget here in the next few days so maybe I'll have more luck when the SOB actually has a tutorial.
If I ever need help, I'll call on you guys. I've got some great ideas for remixes that I'd love to share with you, two in particular. I can play them in my head forever but until I learn how to get them on computer, it'll drive me nuts.
Anyway, it's a pleasure to join the site and hopefully I won't come off as a lame newb (and if I do, hopefully not for very long).

Welcome to the forums, Wicked. Don't forget to read (or re-read) the n00b stickies - i wouldn't want to chalk you up on my wall like the rest of them. As for software - work with it. It took me forever to get the hang of Fruity, but now i dont' even have to think to apply good effects and stuff. It comes naturally soon enough - just give it a few weeks. Ignore the stuff you're never gonna use (fruity vibrator, scratch pad, wrapper) and focus on the more important stuff, like the 303 OSC, samplers, layers, and such. Feel free to PM for any questions.

Absolutely. I know for a fact that many remixers including my main man Beatdrop use nothing but FL. Just import what you play into FL, if you want a more human feel.
Might want to check this (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=7) out, though, as I'm hardly a remixer.
Yeah, you can do a lot with your equipment. I'm remixing right now with some horribly outdated, simple notation software, no keyboard either. All is does is record down notes. But, at least I can print out the music afterwards and do a live, solo-piano recording.

I enjoy a lot of trance/house/NRG-style music and live DJ mixing, so I can really appreciate and enjoy what the ReMixers do. ^_^ I've thought about possibly getting into the field myself, someday, but we'll see. I'm lazy. :P
See ya around.

Welcome aboard, XelectromarioX. It's nice to have another DJ around. Here's an article I dug up that seems to fit this board well like a glove. Actually, it was ripped from another message board, but I altered it and pruned it to fit OCR better.
______________
This is for the well-being of all newbies that I post this article, though.
First off, one key to fitting in on our forums is to lay low. People who come out of this newbie topic and post like crazy are often more noticeable. Noticeable = very good or very bad! If you make yourself too "known" in the beginning (where everyone knows you're a newb), you'll automatically be recognized as "King spamx0r n00b," and we don't want that, do we? I suggest "lurking." If you're unfamiliar with the term, it means basically just hanging out, reading stuff, absorbing. Which leads to my next point....
Before just "posting" on Overclocked Remix, you have to remember that we're a unique community of people. By that I mean, some of us are rude, sarcastic, and embittered. To understand why, you should (before posting about how kawaii SD Gundam is) read some of our posts and understand why we act the way we do.
The next key to posting at Overclocked is to be reserved. When you post, either post in small amounts, or make the post worth reading and inciteful. Also, don't go directly for the 'inciteful' boards like UnMod. It's called UnMod for a reason. If you think nothing phazes you or moves you like The Blob, then by all means try it out.
The MOST important rule on all of OCR is fitting in with our little group. By that I mean, you can't be one of these people: melodrama-queen, a crazy fanatic of anything (but videogames are the most tolerable subject), go out of your way to announce to the world that you're a Goth/Pagan/Wicca, a person whom is overly obsessed with discussing their sexual preference (UnMod exempt), teh king of spamx0r, or someone who has a complete lack of understanding as far as order goes.
Also note that if you make a mistake in your "newb" days, you will most likely be ridiculed. To avoid that, don't do the following things:
- make threads on things we already have threads on
- reviving 6 month old topics about someone's pet hamster
- Post in the wrong forum (there are exceptions)
- Insult a staff member while on "newb" status
- Post completely ludicrous remarks in most forums
Remember, folks, being a newb at first is like being that guy from Full Metal Jacket who always got picked on, and we're pretty much that crazy Seargant. Hopefully, though, you won't blow your brains out with a rifle. At least, that wasn't our intention. If you can follow this guide, hopefully you won't have to. If you're ridiculed, be strong, and maybe you'll redeem yourself.

for some reason, that "hello" seemed completely stupid. i think a yo or a sup or at least a hi is better than a good British "Halloo"

You just must have a hide of steel to keep from getting all mad. people who get flamed and get mad are the ones that are just idiots.
before posting in unmod, it's best to lurk and get an idea of Unmod regulars personalities, as they are varied and confusing. for example, sarcasm is used OFTEN and if you cannot detect it, you will be ridiculed.

Hi. I am a grilled fish. Let me tell you a story. When a pack of wild animals is attacking, the baby giraffe will hide under the legs of the mother giraffe. And the mother giraffe kicks the giraffe out from under her and runs away. It is with this beautiful story that I begin my days here.

Hi there...
I've been lurking for a while, and finally decided to make my self known. :)
While I may not be a DJ, I can say that this site has the best frikkin' music around. Keep up the good work!
Lessee...
I'm 15 and hail from western PA. I've been playing games since I was five or so. (Which isn't saying much, compared to some. But it's something.) I wouldn't consider myself a "fanboy" for any particular games/systems, which I s'pose will help around here.

Not being a fanboy will definately be an asset around here at times, welcome to OCR, and may your stay be enjoyable.

Word to the wise: Stay out of unmod for a while unless you have a good sense of humor.
Its best to lurk around for a while and get used to things.

Hey Erin, if you misspelled your username or something, you can go back and change it, assuming the name hasn't been taken already. Just go to your profile, and alter it accordingly.

HELLO ALL!!!!!
I joined today, the 19 day of December, in the 4th year of the 21st century in the second millenium since the birth of Christ, at around noon maybe. I took a look around, posted a bit, then decided to say hi, which I did. My job here is done.

Welcome all. Be sure to read the stickies before you post, otherwise you will lack that essential knowledge, and will most likely be flamed heavily.
