I've been downloading from this site since around 2001/2002 so I'm not really a newb  But I finally decided to try and make some of the music in my head into real songs and I would like to know what would be considered the best software for making songs that range from classical to techno. Money is not an option;)

Welcome to you in the OCR forum but like others may say and tell you take their advice and lurk for awhile. UnMod might not be a place to start if you take things to heart when there is only extreme sarcasm. Listen to Mahaboo and you will do alright when coming in here to post...by the way if you came here to fuck around UnMod is going to be a scary place for you<--flaming...other than that welcome and have fun!

Hello, my name is Shadow Urtheart, I am a fan of the Remixes here, mostly the sonic ones, because I am a big Sonic Fan. Anyway I am an English Student studing at AS level, and one day I hope to be able to make my own games Music and all.
I am studing music, and I find the remixes here interesting, especially the ones I also have copies of the originals too. I have tried my hand at remixes with dismal results, but I guess I hope to learn from the experts here.
Ah well any questions about me PM me.

I've lurked forever on the site, not necessarily the forums, but I figured I'd try to see if I remembered my name and pass, and well... here I am :P

Big Metroid fan. Also a big DDR/ITG player, and i'm in my freshman year at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as a Computer Engineer.

Gah, you sound like me. Well, kind of. I plan on majoring in engineering when I get to college, though it will most likely be chemical engineering.

I haven't played In the Groove yet though, since there aren't any machines within reasonable driving distance, but I play DDR far too much.

Hello, I'm Lobo2me and I'm a remixoholic.

Last night I found this site and I now have 110 MB of remixes, all downloaded with a 56K modem :D

My favourite song is still Sonic 3 - Her Azure Eyes by DarkeSword, with Chrono Trigger - Calamitous Judgement in second place.
Are there more mixes here that are similar to Her Azure Eyes? I prefer the techno sound with a nice melody that I can whistle to :)

Edit:

This is the second of my 3-post series, just wanted it to say something else than the first :)

Can anyone tell me if I can request remixes of certain songs here? I'm dying to hear some more remixes of C64 songs, I have 24000 .sid files myself, and C64 had some of the best melodies I've ever heard... Monty on the run is amazing, especially considering it only has 2 channels of music :D

You must have gotten an error message when posting, which i'm guessing is the result of your triple post.

Check this out if that's what has happened.

There's an entire ReQuests forum dedicated to this, you can request anything there. There's no guarantee it will be picked up though. Make sure to include a link to the original track, so any interested remixers will know what they'll be mixing.

Oh, and I've merged your two original posts and deleted the others(Part of the moderating job).

I'm a tad bit late, but I guess it's best for me to introduce myself here regardless.

Hello to everyone, I've been visiting this site since June of 2004. I found out about this site through DarkeSword's website, which I discovered from RPGamer. I just want to say thank you to all the people that keep this site running; all of the remixers, judges, moderators, and regulars help keep this an interesting and invigorating website. Oh, and of course, djpretzel, whose blood, sweat, and tears are the foundations of this website.

okay, syncophant mode off

My favorite remix is...

Oh snap, I almost made a newbie mistake. Sorry about that.

Hey guys I'm new here! LoloLOolLolol!!1!!1

Just kidding.

Well as I checked through the thread, I realized that I never really introduced myself. I'm 16 and live in Virginia. I've been on OCR since early 2003, but I really don't like message boards, so I never joined. I was pushed into joining, and have since really loved this site. Each area has a distinct feel to it, Unmod being the most rowdy of them all. Anyways, a late hello to all.

You bring up an interesting point. I don't think I did either, uh, but yeah, I think at this point it is unnecessary.

As long as we're on the topic of late intros:

May name is SoloGamer87, as you can see. I've been coming to this site since 2002 I believe. I never really bothered to read the forums until one September say when I got bored in Computer Programming class. I decided to join in December. I've been playing games for as long as I can remeber. Since I spent most of my life playing Nintendo consoles (the only non-Nintendo system I owned back then was the Genesis), I developed a bit of a fanboyism. Fortunately, I have grown out of it and now own all three of the current systems.

To all you n00bs out there, there is no need to fear UnMod. If you've got a sense of humor, then you will definately fit in. If, however you make your first post there, they will greet you with the likes of goatse, begel wang, tubgirl, and many, many more.

I sort of had the same anti-post thing going on, at least at first. Before I joined OCRemix I was basically trolling a message board for a MUD I had played for 3 years. The board itself was pretty slow and posts were scarce (and usually from the same old crowd) so I didn't feel like I had much to input there, except an occasional flame or something.

But here, there are always new topics or something to do, so it keeps me entertained.

Call me Tater or Chips for short if you want to. Even monster will do, just watch out after you call me that particularly latter name. I am known on many other communities by many other names, but one common thing I am universally known for is a lack of sanity and a therewith inconsistant obsession over order rather than chaos.

I remember when I gave up searching for the best game music community on the web, and when I gave up searching for ways to remix music because I knew of none other than Anvil. Earlier, on old friend from GamingW provided me with a link to play in Winamp, but no details about the source of this streaming media. It really T-Oed me because I loved the remixes and wanted to get to their rich source.

Here I am now. I found everything I gave up looking for. I am a writer and an overactive roleplayer. Now I hope to do morw with music than hum it and sing it by remixing, extending my talents so they can feed off of each other as I always dreamed of doing.

Enough with the drama. I'm just happy to be here.

Hey guys. Another n00b here sayin "hi".

Been coming to this site ever since late 2001 but only just now decided to join the forums. I'm really into videogame music and I find it to be the best kind. Never really got into the remixing stuff although I have the technical skills, I'm not musically inclined in the least bit so no point in making people's ears bleed.

As for the handle, I do a lot of 3D modeling stuff so it just sounded right.

So.. when do I get flamed? ;-)

Basically, whenever you do something really dumb ;). Generally, if you read all the stickies and follow their advice, if you don't use aimspeak, nonsarcastic leet, StIcKyCaPs or any of the other annoyances of that sort, and if you don't go around mindlessly insulting people who don't deserve it, there's a pretty good chance you'll never be flamed at all :).

Unless you talk to the wrong people, of course. But then, the rest of the people in the thread will usually come to your aid.

Whats up everyone. First post at these fourms. I'm not new though. I've been happily downloading from OCR for a few years now after seeing it in EGM..I think it was. Wish I woulda found it before then but recently got DSL and now i'm downloading just about everything and loving it. This site is great..and if there was something beyond..this would be that!

I finally got off my butt and signed up for the boards..i'm here enough why not talk to others that are here just as much..if not more.

So as Brak would say..

Hellloo Every Budy!

Hello all...

I suppose I could say that I've been around the site since mid 2004 (and I think I registered sometime around then), but I haven't actually bothered with the forums until earlier this week.

My first stop was in Unmod (Yes, I am that suicidal, and slightly idiotic, as well). When I checked it out, it wasn't all that hellish. I don't believe that I did anything wrong, other than ask for assistance with a very simple question (I guess it was like throwing peanuts at the gorilla in the zoo). Before I could post a second time, there were multiple four letter words shouted in my general direction, and various references to my mother - not that I expected anything different.

Sorry if I wasn't supposed to do any of that, but I hadn't read any rules at the time.
Rules...in UnMod?
Hah, that's rich.
Just don't go in there acting like a total n00b and you'll do fine.

Anyway, welcome to the OCR forums. Enjoy your stay.

Hehe ,i only lurked for like 2 days or was it 1 day ..

Hi. I am a big fan of video game music. I like to listen to it, and I attempt to play it on the piano, and the xylophone/vibrophone/marimba.

I also have a large collection of games, and I frequent "Digital Press", if you know what that is.

You can see the games I own at http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/tiberiansun/games.txt

Hi I'm a noob to the boards, posting wise any how, I've been lurking for about 6 months now. I've been downloading the excellent music this site provides access to for about 2 years now. Thought I might give posting a try since I've still got another 6 months left in Iraq...all I've got is time. Anyway I feel like this is a family away from home so its time for cousin super sapper to come out and say hi.

Well, never too late
Hi, I'm HartZa, finnish guy who plays guitar (not very well, but still!), and I'm interested in VGM, music as a whole thing and after all, extreme sports. Which
mainly are motocross and snowmobiling. Actually,
I'm competing in snowmobile races...
Mostly I'm into the Megaman games, and the musics, of course. Almost 99% of my remixes (or tries of remixes..?) are MM songs, so just bear with me!

...Hopefully I'm accepted in this community :D

I guess I'm not exactly new I've been lurking a really really long time. Sometimes I post things, but that is rare because either it's already been said, or the things I post are generaly ignored. (Darn my low charisma score...) (ignore the bad D&D joke)

I just recently started actively posting so I decided I'd introduce myself now, as I seem to have a bit more to say these days.

Anyway, I draw things and I really like constructive critisism. *coughlookatmyartcough*

I enjoy video games of all kinds, as well as a wide variety of music.

Um, not much else to say, I guess people will figure me out a bit better (maybe) if I hang around and talk more. So yeah, that's it.

[EDIT] Jak, it's best to use proper spelling and punctuation on OCR. Also, when you get a posting error, do not hit submit again. Check the thread you're posting to- more than likely, it went through. Aside from all of that, welcome to the site and good luck with your ReMixes.

Looks like with the exception of SILVERWOLF_87 our welcoming crew has thinned out considerably over the last little while. Regardless, welcome to all you new guys and gals and I hope that your stay here is a good one. On a positive note you all found the right thread to pop in and say “howdy” so that’s always a leap in the right direction. Oh, and as always beware of UnMod it has been known to eat a few brains in its time. Goodness knows I haven’t been able to string together more than two intelligent thoughts in succession since I wandered into that place way back when (Or it may be because I’m a complete an utter moron but let us not talk of that  ). I kid I kid, any question feel free to ask away.

P.S. deathax: it might help if you gave us some insight on that radio station of yours, some of us have clicked on a random link in UnMod one to many times and are a little on the wary side (a.k.a. never seem to learn our lesson the first time). :)

Anyhow, my name derives from Lufia 2: Rise of the sinistrals. I chose it because I love Arek. He is the only sinistral who isnt powerhungry. Instead, he wishes to test humans to see if they are the ones truly who are destined to "rule" earth.

Hi OCR, long time listener/downloader, just registered for the forums today. Thanks DJP for coming up with what a lot of people are considering close to a legit art form with the vg remixes here. My girl took a couple of the remixes to a club here (damned if I can remember which ones) and they ended up being hotly requested for a long time afterwards. Thanks again and congrats on the recent 5 year anniversary of the site!

Hi

I've actually been here for awhile (not that anyone would know), but something happened, so I had to register with a new account (forgot why, it was a while back) so now it looks like I've only been here for about six months.

I have a serious lurking problem, so I don't really post that much (A reflection of my real-life [lack of] social skills, possibly)

and anyWHO... isn't there a thread or two where I could get a sig? I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. ...

One last thing: UnMod is the best, until you actually post and get third-degree burns from the resulting flames - maybe thats why I have such a strong aversion to posting.

Interesting fact: I also lack any real life social skills, but for some reason (which are pretty obvious if you hang around UnMod for a while), I have attained the status of post whore king, so my personality here is almost the opposite of what it is in real life.

Bad experiences with UnMod, eh? Well, if you ever feel like going down there, the UnMod sig-makers thread is here:

Greetings, I'm ZJP (better known as Zach). Been a regular visitor to OCRemix for about 6 months, and have liked it very much. I'm 17 years old, living in Oregon, and my interests include video games, and tv shows, and the job I currently have. I hope to be a positive addition to the forums, and, eventually (when I acquire the proverbial "1337 $|<|11Z") I hope to start adding remixes to the site.

Thank you for having me :)

Also, what if I don't care if Iget flamed in UnMod for being from GameFAQs? Can I still mention it, or is it like... auto-bannination?

Xenophule
03-15-2005, 10:55 AM
As unfair as it is, mentioning that you're from GameFAQs will instantally brand you. Personally, I'd wait until you gain some status (and not use terms like "1337 $|<|11Z") before saying anything; but that's me.

After reading your post again...if you don't really care, don't worry about it.

And hello, Uber Goalie! Welcome, and...umm...tread lightly.

Just wanted to drop by and say hello to all you new comers (and all you pros). You could say I'm a bit of a newbie meself though I've been downloading a while longer then I've been a member. I've managed to pick up a few things since I've joined. The most important thing is to ignore them flamers, they're out to get you newbies so don't give them more fuel by responding to their flames. Also, unless you have a good idea for a thread, you're better off just posting your opinions in existing threads until you get the hang of things rather then just posting any old topic. Anyways, I'm outta here, goodluck and have fun on OCR.

Each break up can get little discouraging, but each time video game music gets me right back up and help me to keep on playing.September of last year I got my ass back to school and brought my first PC in Oct.Sometime in Dec. of 04 I found out about this site and fell in love with it, a place were video game music is loved.Anyway dijretzel I love the lay out of the site and its setup, not to long ago I download music players that plays music from nintendo game etc from links that were here in ocremix site music, formats like NSF and GYM also. Hey hey folks,

I've been listening to OC remixes since early 2002 and have only now decided
to start up on the forums here. Music and videogames are two passions of mine, so I thought why not bounce some thoughts with those who share those same passions. I'll probably be found mostly in the review forum as I have a lot to say about so many remixes.

Hello. My name is Dennek, but you may refer to me as Lord Odonnel. I am a fairly new member here, but have been downloading (over a dialup connection) since august last year. I am a hardcore Starfox fanatic (any questions, please PM me), and also an avid flight simulator ace. I play the French Hon, but apart from that have no musical skills, so don't expect mixes from me, although I will critique them.

Well, let see. Hello everybody! I'm obviously a newly registered member to the forums, but I've frequented this site many times before and have been for a few years now. I just love all the remixes, it's great to hear my favorite songs again but with a new beat. I, myself, am a beginner to remixing, it's incredibly fun and hopefully I'll be able to share them once I figure out what the hell I'm doing, plus I love all forms of artistic expression. I mostly draw and paint, but composing music is something I've always wanted to do as well. Anyways, to stop myself from babbling or sounding super noob-ish any further since I just can't seem to make a proper introduction since you know that first impressions......anyways, hi!

If yours is the last reply to a topic, you can always delete it by clicking the little http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/templates/ocr/images/icon_delete.gif button in the top right. Or just wait for a mod to drop by and remove it ;).

Considering the recent influx of newcomers starting threads to announce their arrival to OCR, I thought perhaps having one thread where newbie’s could come in and introduce themselves rather than cluttering up this forum with random “Hi I’m new” threads would be more efficient.

This may be a dumb idea but I figured I’d give it a shot and maybe new members that are a little afraid to post a new topic will feel more at ease saying hello in a thread dedicated to such things.

So post say hello and little about yourself. Oh and..

http://img89.exs.cx/img89/162/Greetings.gif
:)

For a little more information on the do’s and don’ts see below. Any other questions be sure to let us know!

A few pointers:

- Please don’t make a “What’s your top X OCR mixes” or some such thread please. There was a great write up somewhere as to why such threads are discouraged but I’m too lazy to find it now, if any one has it linkage please.

- Don’t ask for roms, illegal mp3’s and the like. Especially in GenDisc

- Don’t post porn or offending images in GenDisc

-(subliminal) Send me $5

- If you are brave a.k.a. psychotic, disturbed, or just plain foolish enough to visit UnMod please read this (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31144). I kid it’s not so bad, but be forewarned some threads aren’t work or school safe.

- Take the time to look around and become familiar with the place( different personalities and such). Going on a posting spree your first day here rarely gives the desired results.

- Please don’t start a thread on any little topic that crosses your mind, nothing in the rules that says you can’t but some people here take exception so do so at your own risk.

-(subliminal) Send me $5

-If in UnMod and you see a troll or a ridiculous topic your best course of action is to simply ignore it. By responding you are doing nothing more than giving them more fuel in which to post more garbage. Remember, when you bump a useless thread another valuable one may end up being forced off the first page.

-Copycatting: This usually occurs when one person posts a topic and then others seem to think it’s funny to create multiple “copycat” threads. This often leads to a flood of similar (bullshit) threads eating up the first page while other valuable threads get pushed off and sometimes forgotten. This is usually just a phase and dies down quickly but it serves as a major annoyance to many people at the same time. Please for the love of Aphrodite do not partake in such activities and do yourself a favour and simply don’t respond.

Here are a few of the topics here in the Newbie/Tech Help Forum that may answer some of your initial questions:

How to post a picture or signature : courtesy of endblink (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11654)

Attention forum newbies: Posting Tutorial and BBcode: courtesy of Gorveg (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=48506)

GanonVsThanatos reporting in from Philadelphia. I am a Nintendo-faithful gamer who tries to ignore the other popular systems (so as not to attack other gamers' views without reason nor to attack my own wallet, hard drive, or sparse spare time). Welcome to the forums, but I think you might prefer not to be associated with Virt if you're gonna hang out around here; he and OCR have an interesting history, to say the least. The quick synopsis is that he was once an integral part of OCR, until he and DJP had a falling out, and Virt started his own remix site as competition for OCR.

As usual, beware of unmod, blah blah blah, enjoy.

Hello to everyone here.

I've been on a few other internet forums so I have a general good feel of what to expect at places like these, but every place is different and carries a different vibe, so I'm going to arrive here with an innoncent look on everything.

I decided to get into remixing because of the fact that:
1. I like a lot of music, VGM included.
2. I play a lot of video games
3. I've been making some music for personal enjoyment and just plain messing around for a good while, but rarely have these been actual remixes of VGM songs... I thought I would dip a little into that.

Well anyway I'm off to submit my first entry and see how things go from there :)

Before submitting I suggest posting it HERE (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=13). It’s the OCR WIP Forum where you can allow others to listen to your mix and give you feedback on things that may need improving. It’s very helpful for new and old mixers alike.

I've been playing video games since I was a baby. The first game I beat was Super Metroid, I think. I am a Nintendo supporter, not fanboy, but I have more games on my PS2 than GC. I'm 16, and almost out of my sophmore year in High School!!

Hey guys. I've been coming here downloading remixes for almost a year now, and just started lurking the forums around E3. Well, I finally made a name, so HI!

Hmmmm...I'll probably need a sig though...any volunteers?

Weclome, and for all your sig needs, check out Ye Olde Sig Shoppe (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=41441) thread, or if you're feeling a little bold, check out the The unofficial UnMod sig maker's thread. (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35538)

Hey guys, the name is Jordan and I'm a 20 year old software engineer in San Luis Obispo, California, also going to school there (if anyone needs help with some programming assignments I would love nothing more than to help!!). Not much else to say other than I love music (anyone else a Hybrid fan I wonder?). I've worked on and completed a couple of emulators (gameboy color and nes) too, which I wish I had the time to clean up and release :)

At any rate I probably won't talk much but I'll try my best to contribute to these forums =]

Hello Newbies and welcome to OCR. I hope you enjoy your stay here and if you run into any trouble feel free to drop me a PM. :)

P.S. If you stumble into UnMod just do yourself a favour and ignore the idiots. That's not saying everybody is, (at least I hope so, I post there) but we do have our fair share.

I am posting here, for I have time to burn before I go out to do a project on city parks again.

Hello all.

I just found this site whilst stumbling around the web. It looks very interesting and I am going to work my way through some more of it in just a minute.

I am 26, a music student living in England, and a sometime software tester. I stronngly believe that sausages, mash and tomato ketchup make the finest meal. And that the gameboy Tetris theme is still the best piece of computer music ever. Yes, ever.

I am building a site at the moment - www.opensourcemusic.info - and should you fancy getting involved with that, please get in touch.

Greetings! I've been coming to this site for over a year now but only started checking the forums a day or two ago. I'm very bored now so I decided to create this account. :D :D

Hello ladies, gentlemen, and miscellaneous,

I've been here for a while, but not in the form of a member.

That has changed, for better or worse...
