Considering the recent influx of newcomers starting threads to announce their arrival to OCR, I thought perhaps having one thread where newbie’s could come in and introduce themselves rather than cluttering up this forum with random “Hi I’m new” threads would be more efficient.
This may be a dumb idea but I figured I’d give it a shot and maybe new members that are a little afraid to post a new topic will feel more at ease saying hello in a thread dedicated to such things.
So post say hello and little about yourself. Oh and..
http://img89.exs.cx/img89/162/Greetings.gif
:)
For a little more information on the do’s and don'ts see below. Any other questions be sure to let us know!
A few pointers:
- Lurking a bit at first never a dead newbie make.
- Don’t ask for roms, illegal mp3’s and the like.
- Don’t post porn or offending images.
-(subliminal) Send me $5
- Take the time to look around and become familiar with the place( different personalities and such). Going on a posting spree your first day here rarely gives the desired results.
-(subliminal) Send me $5

Hi, I'm Mythril Nazgul. I'm a pretty nice guy if you get to know me, and I generally try to help out people if they need it. Here are some more good tips and links for the newbie entering into these forums.
Enter into Political Debate at your own Risk
Whether you are a die hard liberal or a stalwart conservative, the moment you post in a "Politics" thread, prepare to have your opinions bashed, criticized and flamed, sometimes by posts that go on for pages (get used to the name Atomic Dog ;)) Get used to this. Politics threads in General Discussion go on for pages and pages, and the debates can get extremely intense. Remember one thing though; it's just a message board. 9 times out of 10, the arguee is not trying to destroy your opinions personally. Don't take everything too seriously and you will be fine.
Review WIPS
Want a good way to increase your reputation? Review other people's songs on the WIP boards. People are always looking for criticism and not only does it help your credibility, it helps others as well. Try to be nice, and try to do your best to give valuable input to the mixer. Who knows? You might be helping the next ReMix get on the site!
Remain Understandable
Face it, people are going to pay more attention to someone who types with clarity and correct spelling than to someone who speaks garbled and "AIM"ish. Try to spellcheck your posts before posting, and please try to keep your words understandable.
More if I can think of them, but here are some other good links for you to get started:
GENERAL DISCUSSION
A good place to start off. Keep it clean and try to be nice!
Shirts (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=37112)
Want to help the site and sport a snazzy OCR T at the same time? Shirts provide a decent source of revenue for the site (remember, these remixes are FREE) and they look cool too.
Rate That Sig! (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23237)
Got a signature you made and you want to know how people like it? Consider yourself an art critic? If so, step into this thread and rate away!
PRC/IMC/ORC
Every week or so, one of these threads will pop up. They stand for People's Remixing Competition, Iron Mixer Competition and Original Remixing Competition respectivly, and they are user run mixing competitions. If you want to try your hand at mixing or if you want to learn how to get better, enter one of these and take it for a spin. Even if you don't win, you will almost always get constructive criticism and that is never a bad thing.
Smash Bros. Community (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12234)
Smash Brothers Fan? I know I'm not that much of one, but if you are, this thread is for you. There are many regulars who frequent this thread and give information on contests, tips for winning, and all around good ol' fanboyness! If this is up your alley, make yourself known!
VG Frequency (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24500)
This thread is dead for the summer, but it will be refreshed come fall. Basically, VG Frequency is a thread run by Liontamer, who hosts a VG Remix Radio show once a week. The thread is filled with information about the upcoming and previous shows as well as downloads of entire episodes! During the season, you can log onto the VGF chat room and hit it up with all your favorite remixers and posters during the show, and discuss whats being played, as well as a whole slew of random things.
UNMOD
Ok, so you decided to venture into Unmod? Here are a few threads to check out!
Post Pics of Yourself (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35603)
The title says it all! Feel daring? Post a pic of yourself. Just be careful or Arashi will hit on you!
Hi! (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35966)
The First Hi! Thread died in the Unmod Purge, but this one is almost the same. It's basically a chatroom in there. Any topic is welcome! Join in discussion, mess around, and make fun of Evilhead, if you want!
OverClocked Removed (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=33178)
The Corp runs a cool website where you can pick up songs that have been removed from this website for various reasons. You can find updates in this thread. Check out the site! You might be able to pick up Fowl Jive, Cool Cool Schala, or maybe even the holy Bad Tuna!
The Love, Relationship, Sex and Social-Ed thread (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35537)
This thread will probably come in handy for you at some point in your life. Mahaboo, Arashi and others offer help for you in times of need. Got a sex related question? Relationship problems? Come here and ask away!
Photo Caption Contest - V2 (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=34339)
Got a sense of humor? This contest is for you! Try your hand at coming up with captions for various humerous pictures! The winner gets to choose the next pic. Just beware of the Coop and his mind control powers...
Unmod Sig Makers Thread (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35538)
Want a sig? Come in here and request one and one of the sig makers will probably maybe perhaps get to it when they have a chance. No promises, but most of the time people are satisfied with what they get!
Well thats about all for now. Just remember, stay nice, stay cool and above all, just remember, it's only a forum. Don't let your anger control you.
Oh yeah, and don't mention www.gamefaqs.com or you will get flamed.
Hope you enjoy your stay, and hope this helped!

The Coop
06-12-2004, 06:39 AM
Greetings. I'm The Coop. Now before I use the Vulcan Mind Fuck on you and reduce you to a drooling, incoherent vegetable, here's a few things to keep in mind.
I) Get a grasp on sarcasm. It's used a lot around here, and jumping the gun on someone when they're making a sarcastic comment that you think is their actual views and such, leads to a roast pretty quickly.
II) Don't pick a fight. I know when you first show up on a board you wanna start a topic about something you like and just talk about it 'till the sun dies out. By all means, start a thread about it... but think first.
Don't start a thread with an accusatory tone in your post like "Why do you hate FFVIII here?". That's not going to get any kind of discussion going, except possibly one about your mother and any habits she may or may not have. Instead, just post about what you wanna talk about, and give your thoughts on it in a calm fashion. Conversations start off a lot better that way.
Oh... and don't do the "I wanna see what you guys think first" routine, as that's a cop out. If you wanna talk about something, then take part in it from the start.
III) Remember that when things are being discussed, there are opinions mixed in with the facts... and at times, all a post is, is an opinion. It's good to let others know where you stand on a given topic, but don't shove your opinion down the throats of others like it's the only right opinion to have. We're all free thinkers here, and we all see things a bit differently thanks to the personal experiences we've all had in our lives. How we see a subject, is no more right or wrong than how you see it, as our opinions have been formed by what we've seen, heard, read, experienced and done... just like you.
IV) Thunder Force IV is the best 16bit shooter out there. Just accept that ;)
V) Enter into a Religion debate at your own risk. Like Political debates, it's going to be flame filled as opinions are bashed and thrown about. If they start civil, count on them not staying that way. Food for thought.
Hope this helps :)

ReMix ReViews (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=11)-
If you've found a mix you really like, be sure to give it some praise here. Try to explain what you liked about the song, what the mixer did right, ad what you think could be improved. It's always good to give advice along with giving the ReMixer one more reason to show off his ego, so a good review layout would be a lot like this post of mine[/ego]:
Ok, just started the song [which is nicely done] over:
00:00 - Nice flute intro.
00:06 - Here come the synths.
00:12 - Here's where the trance comes in.
00:19 - You mixed the electronic trance beat perfectly with the flute. Starts going up from there.
00:34 - The flute still blends semalessly. I have to congratulate you on this.
00:59 - I like how you blended some electronic noises in the background there with the flute doing its own thing with the lower-paced melody.
01:04 - Here come the synths again.
01:12 - Perfectly placed break from the happy-go lucky melody...but it'll come back to haunt me...
01:24 - It's coming back from the break very fast, which is a good thing.
01:38 - You took out the flute there for a little bit and put a synth in its place flawlessly.
01:44 - Here comes the flute again.
01:56 - I like the underwater effect you put here.
02:09 - You aded more ambient electronic sounds with a few appearences from the flute.
02:22 - The flute's back as part of the main melody here.
02:48 - An electronic break from the happiness that's been building up. After that, most of the instruments from the song as a whole come back and build up to 03:26. After that, it's like some underwater percussion instrument leading the closing melody.
Overall, this is probably my favorite mix on OCR, even though I never played any games on any Sega system. Very, very happy. The flute is my favorite instrument in this mix.
Again, nicely done. 99%.
Admittedly, I could have elaborated more on the second-to-last paragraph, and the criticism of indicidual parts of this short song makes it seem a lot shorter than it is. I no longer use a rating system because you can't simply rank mixes, since they all have their own special thing that makes it original or great.
These forums are a lot like the WIP boards in that they help a remixer become better. Also remember to always be open-minded; even if you don't like the style a mixer used you can still review it if you think it's well-done for the genre. ESPECIALLY review a mix if it's in a genre you absolutely hate, yet you actually like it. That's because the mix is helping to open up your mind, and the mixers are always happy to hear that. ;)

Come into a discussion open minded. Be prepared to quickly change your mood. Whether it be about debate, be informative, or a sarcasm smorgasborg.
If you sense sarcasm but still don't find the humour, stick around a little longer. You'll understand.
It's just like real life.
If you want to engage in serious debate, lurk a bit, see who posts in an intelligent manner and check out who he hangs with. If you are here for shits and giggles, find the more humourous people, the people who always talk with their tongue in their cheek.
If you come here to learn, find people who bring forth knowledge and general know-how.
Doing this lets you be able to remember names of the posters on the board quicker and not feel so overwhelmed.

hey! long time downloader, new member. just want to say thanks to you guys for creating such a cool site and props for keeping it up.
and now,a little about me: i'm a female gamer from texas. well, i say gamer, i don't know about the whole "hard-core gamer vs. casual" label and i actually don't really care. i like a lot of video games, end of story.
my first console was the NES, but my parents sold it (funny sidenote: they also sold all of the NES and super NES games along with it, but not the super NES) so i bought another on ebay (overpriced). i have a dreamcast and a ps2 also, and a broken playstation. the dreamcast i got only to play soul calibur. my sister and i played soulblade daily and waited for the sequel. and waited...and waited...and then i had to get a dreamcast to play it! but it was worth it (i want a sword like ivy's!).
i'm just about finished with my associate's degree in art, and am looking to get a bachelor's degree in video game art and design (no programming for me!)
what else...um.. some favorite games include:
soulblade
ico
ace combat four
rez
the metal gear series
this last one is a bit of a double-edged sword. on the one hand, it's a funny series, but on the other there are many things about metal gear which really bother me. why do all the female characters die/leave/go bad? (p.s. anyone else feel rose is a bad egg?) also, does snake believe in god? why make a male character who looks kind of girly? (i read somewhere that raiden was designed to be a character both male and female gamers could related to. why not just make a female playable character?)
sorry to rant, but it's stuff like that. i guess what i'm trying to say is i'm interested in this series because i'd love to change a few things about it. my codename's always 'pigeon' or 'mammoth' if anyone was wondering.
so in short, i'm another gamer looking to get into the industry. i hope to take part in creating storylines and game characters in games which are good clean fun (no half-dressed floozies. i know guys get sick of hearing it, but why do female game characters have to be naked to kick any butt?) and which people can really enjoy and relate to. making a game out of c.s. lewis' "til we have faces: a myth retold" is an idea i'm toying with, if my career plans work out.
so that's me. to quote the recent nintendo ads, who are you?

Hello orual, and welcome to OCR. If you venture into UnMod it may be wise to leave the whole female thing out for now, we’ve been having a little drama over there the past few days and people are starting to get a little cranky. :)

Greetings. I am Alexander, though most call me Alex. I'm an avid video game player and role playing enthusiest from western Iowa who has been downloading the wonderful music from this site for some time now. I decided it was high time I started making my opinions known and tried to contribute to the growth of my favorite music spot in my own little way. I hope my stay will be long and enjoyable for myself and others, and I hope to lend a helping hand wherever I can. Maybe in the future I will even have the honor of adding some remixes to the site once I learn how to make them. :)

Very true. Even I've been snarling, which is very uncommon for me to do. Mind you, it was unmod and I can do that - outside I have never flamed a noob whatsoever. It wouldn't feel right.

Yeah, Xel. Aside from the strange fetishes, of which there are many, and the time you ran over that guy with your car, you are a generally nice guy.

I think Mythril mistakenly referred to me... Y'see, when I was 6, I was over my little brother in this plastic car I was riding, because I felt like being a jackass.
I gave him a bruise. :(
[Like this specific story, people will make up things that are completely fake sometimes, particularly in UnMod. Sarcasm is generally very convincing down there.]

Hello, I'm neminem, and everything I always say to n00bs in welcome threads already got covered while I was sleeping ;-). But welcome all, and don't be scared of UnMod like I was when I was a n00b here. Then again, I've heard grumblings that it's tamer now than it used to be, but as far as I'm aware, the only difference is you get banned for blatant thread-breaking, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Haha, yeah. That was great. If you say you are a girl in UnMod right now, you will likely not be believed. On the other hand, if you look around at all the threads related to the current running gag and its origins, and make a thread parodying it that also implies you're being serious, and pull it off well... that could give you a big advantage on losing your n00b status ;-). We're big on sarcasm generally.
By the way, you should really look into getting this thread stickied.

...okay, i think i'll avoid unmod. stupid newbie question: what is the current 'running gag' (um..and what is unmod?)
UnMod is short for the UnModerated forum (and GenDisc is of course short for General Discussion). The current gag revolved around a semin00b (one of the actually intelligent ones) talking about how she was a girl while talking about porn, and another, less intelligent n00b said [s]he was too, and started talking about how she liked some kind of stupid pseudo-fetish that's apparently popular to talk about in perman00b culture (http://www.aimgirl.com)... then a couple regulars "let loose" that they were actually girls as well. Random in-jokes like that happen periodically - I remember with fondness the day where about 3 dozen threads got started of the form *is <something you are/are doing>*, and the time everyone was accusing each other of being alternate accounts of this one person (who was that, by the way? I'm forgetting) and all the jokes made about the possible nonexistence of Eccles' girlfriend, and... great times.

...okay, i think i'll avoid unmod.
You don't have to avoid it, but it's probably a good idea to lurk around there and see how things operate in that forum before posting too much in there. I say this because many of the people that pretty much frequent only that forum section are like dogs, in that they tend to be territorial and become threatened when someone they have never seen before enters what they claim to be their space.
I'm xamgis, by the way, for all the newbies. I have come to the conclusion that most people skip over the posts that I make, (except for when I was one of two primary posters in a thread that has long since been deleted) only because someone usually says what I had said, two posts after I said it. No matter. I occasionally have something to contribute in the sig makers thread, but other than that I don't think I really do much else.

Don't be afraid of unmod, embrace its culture of social disfunctioon.
Another quick disclaimer, and this especially applies in unmod:
If you make a thread, prepare for the consequences.
A mod will not come and delete your thread per your request. Changing the title name to "Please Delete" or anything similar to that will not result in a deletion. Most of the time that will only prevent a mod from doing so, as they are heartless bastards whose sole intent is to make you cry. If such an incident occurs in Unmod, not only will the thread not get deleted, but various unmod regulars will taunt you nonstop and keep your thread bumped to the front of the page. Some people have learned this the hard way. Think before you make a thread! Unless are in GD and you break the rules, the thread will not be gone when you wake up the next morning. It will be infested. Just a warning.

I got around this. I was very happy :D. I was testing something, I forget what, and in the process of deleting it when I was done I had my thread posted to so I couldn't finish. Of course, if I'd been smart I would've tested it in some forum that never gets visitors, but I wasn't and didn't. Having noted that both titles of "let this thread die" and "please post here!" last forever, I decided to go with something nobody wants to see. My thread asked for people to send me their playstation cd rips. It got a couple n00bs asking whether that was even possible, and then died.

Greetings to all newbies who read this. I'm draculalucard, Drac for short. I don't really have any advice that hasn't already been said, but I will add something here.
I'm a sig maker therefore I frequent the sig makers thread in UnMod, but unfourtunatly I'm not mainstream anymore. Basically I don't make sigs unless I'm specifically asked to do it, or if inspiration strikes. I no longer make sigs for anyone who asks since they usually come out half-assed. However, we do have a few who are still mainstream so you still have a good chance of getting a sig if you ask nicely. Just try to remember that the more information and/or source images you provide, the better your chances.
Also if you ever need to know anything about CastleVania, PM me and I'll answer your question as best I can.

Ummm, first of it's LJU . Don't confuse him with DJP. He is a frequenter of Unmod with extremely Not Work Safe pictures in his sig (tubgirl/watermelons/naked women/etc) He writes as if he is drunk and his words always seemed garbled...a little too garbled. He begins threads that insult a certain group/culture/person/movie/etc and most of the time his threads get quite popular. He is also extremely witty and funny at times, which leads me to believe it is all an act. And once, once, in the old Post Your Picture thread, he claimed to be a girl, a claim that has yet to be proven.

Anyway, don't be afraid of UnMod. It's weird, stupid, funny, disgusting, controversial, lovable and personal all in one multi colored ball. We're not all lunatics running around with hatchets looking to behead anything. We'll, not before 7pm anyway. After that, all bets are off.
Besides... you can only have so much fun in Gen Dis before posts/threads get deleted. UnMod give a bit more room to be... yourself. The choice is yours of course. But when you want to become a man... or a dribbling vegetable that's been traumatized once too often with images of the obscene and twisted... UnMod'll be waiting.
Waiting...
Waiting...

Here goes nothing.
Well, seeing how as this is a newbie thread, an I'm a newbie, maybe I ought to give you guys a little intro. That is, unless I completely missed the concept of this thread, which may be the case since I haven't seen many newbies in here at all. Anywho, here we go.
My name is Joel, but you people will better know me as millman. I'm seventeen, but will be eighteen in les than two weeks. I've been coming to OC for years now, but sadly haven't done crap to support it. Well, this year after graduation, I got plenty of cash and a new laptop, so when d-loading all of my favorite remixes again, I felt a bit guilty and decided to take part in this kick-ass community. Hehe, I guess you could say I've been with you in spirit for years, but finally took the initiative. Anywho, I'll do what I can with funds, and review as much as I can. Being an audiophile and a remixer myself, I'll do what I can to review and help with upcoming submissions on the site.
About myself? I love games (The entire Legend of Zelda series, in particular, and if anyone wants to discuss the storyline, I'm the guy to talk to) and I love music. Music of all kinds too, from classical to punk to swing to reggae to you name it. And I love the net. I'm not new to forums, by any means, and so you don't have to worry about the newbie-attitude. Other than that, I'm a pretty good guy, so I'm told. I won't judge you, so no need to judge me.
That's about it for now, I guess I'll see you guys around. Hehe, you can all sleep easier knowing one lurcher has decided to give his hand to OC. Well, see ya.
EDIT: Hehe, I forgot to thank you guys for the directions around the site. Knowing your way around is always nice, lol. So...thanks. See ya.

Methinks OCR has more regulars than n00bs, seeing as how most n00bs have 0 posts, and 0*infinity=0. Therefore, the regs will always have more posts than the n00bs. ;)
I have come to the conclusion that most people skip over the posts that I make, (except for when I was one of two primary posters in a thread that has long since been deleted)
Aww... Don't worry, I still love you Sigma. <3

Heh, you're such a dork, Nem.
You're the type of guy, that laughs at jokes like "Pie = 3.24"
Which, is why I love you.
Also, to the newbies (all four of you, that seem to have come here) an interesting fact. Despite the claims that unmod is filled with rabid wolves, ready to rip you appart. The interesting thing is, all the regulars that've posted in here, are regulars of unmod, not gen desc.
Food for thought. We can be really friendly, as long as you're friendly, and intelligent.

How can it be an indeterminate? There's no infinity to indetermine with, since anything*0=0.

Nice... two of my loves in one sentence, math and linguistics :D. First of all, I don't think I've ever seen "indetermine" as a verb before, and I'm not even quite sure what would be meant by it. Secondly, any finite number times 0 is 0. Infinity does weird things like that.
And yes, Gum, I am fully aware of my dorkness, and I'm glad you approve. Though I'm not sure what's funny about misdefining a constant... ;-)

Well this is a nice thread I think. However, I think that many newbies don't even come to this section of the forum, unless they have technical problems or something. I know that the first time I came here was not long before I had 1000 posts. I think most newbs go directly into Gendisc or Unmod once they sign up there accounts.
Anyways, I'll just throw my two cents in about Unmod. It really isn't a bad place as long as you think before you post. Learn to recognize and deal with sarcasm and realize that, regardless of what someone says, the posters will rarely make personal attacks against you. Come in with a normal sense of humor... and leave with a warped sense of humor.

I have been visiting OCR since October 2003 and have finally decided to register. I've enjoyed all of the remixes that I've heard (mainly the Street Fighter ones) and would like to get into the remix scene in the future. I'm also interested in making my own video game(s).
I hope you don't mind me staying awhile. Thanks for any replies. ** bows in respect, again **

Hello everyone. I am Brilliance Redux, the stupid girl (mentioned in the beginning of this thread) that made everyone in UnMod slightly touchy on the topic of females.
-ahem-
Anywho, I can't offer much other advice besides what the other, wiser ones have said. Here's this, though: Never do what I did. ^^
A note about UnMod. You WILL be caught unprepared, now and then, by pornbombs. Pornbombs are a bunch of pictures of various types of, well, porn! These pictures tend to depict oftentimes painful and rather disgusting scenes, so be warned now: do NOT venture into unmod if you will be offended or severely distressed (yay pc-ness!) by these types of images.
And...avoid goatse and tubgirl.
Have fun!

Meh, I don't really think it's Brilliance's fault that she got flamed in UnMod. It's more because people there tend to overreact to women being open about their gender and their love for porn. They're just paranoid there.

Actually I don't think too many people did flame her... she mostly just got caught in the firefight after Sailor J posted a similar thread only less intelligent ;-). She did get a few people questioning her gender, but that's bound to happen in a predominantly male, visually anonymous medium like this one... but flames?

Hey people. I'm new here, and am a long time remixer...although I've only just discovered this site. I've wanted to submit some of my stuff for a long time, but I've had nowhere to give it. It's nice to have a place like this where one can share their musical talent! For a formal introduction...I'm an 18 year old male from a small town outside of calgary, alberta, and I have a passion for both gaming and electronica. I am a hardcore RPG fan, and spend my spare time in console gaming, creating techno/trance/rave pieces, and doing graffiti artwork (if anyone wants to see my work, I have it posted on my site www.geocities.com/stonedragon17). Some of my game favorites may include:

-Final Fantasy VI
-Secret of Mana
-Ogre Battle 64
-Metroid: Prime
-Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
-Mario Kart series
-Legend of Zelda series
-Final Fantasy Tactics/Advance
-Final Fantasy IX
...and various other titles.
I am hoping to do some remixes for these games, so wish me luck! :D

With Winamp, open up a song, then right click and view tags. From there you can edit the tags.

Indeed it is a tech question, and like Mythril said, thats all you have to do to edit it. All the ID3 tags are, are comments. Like those you can add to a word doc, or other such files.

New tip. This one comes via example of our new OCR Roastie, myonlyomen.
Don't make your very first thread about a particularly hot topic. Unless your arguement is well thought out and it's presented in a clear manner, it likely won't end well for you

Try the remixing forum.
Its not a remixing question...I want to know what an ID3v2 tag is, and how it works so I can submit. Is this not the "newbes/tech help" forum?
It is, but your initial question to Xelebes was "are you a remixer?" I took that as meaning it was a remixing question.

I disagree - I would say, your first thread can be about anything at all - just don't present it like myonlyomen did. If he had presented it well, it would've gone fine for him; on the other hand, if he'd displayed that same level of stupidity in just about any other thread, he would have been laughed at just as much ;-). So the moral of this is, don't make a thread espousing large amounts of stupidity while trying to defend your intelligence.
Hey, you guys seem really great. Ive been a fan of game music for a long time but ive just started getting into remixing and still getting equipment and stuff so its gonna take some time. but thanks for makin me feel welcome guys.

You could, but I would suggest waiting until the original thread has been deleted due to inactivity (takes a month of no one posting in a thread for that to happen). Otherwise, you'll be getting a fist full of flames in a very short amount of time for not only going over the same topic again, but for posting a new thread about it while your old thread is still going.

I'm a n00b. I just joined last night.
I never realized that OC Remix had a forum...I should have joined a while ago. I really liked the Jurrasic Park (SNES) remix and the Super Mario World remixes...in fact right now i'm listening to a Super Mario Bros. remix...heh.
I post a lot on the playstation forums and at http://www.dream-systems.com/forum/index.php Dream-Systems...a great community :D .
My name on all forums is KitchenLand, so if you ever see the name, it's either me or some loser who stole the name :P .
As some one pointed out, i like mario yet i go to the playstation forums. Well, i have a playstation, have a few games...i only have a N64, but i have an NES and an SNES with all the mario games (except mario RPG and mario kart). But i'm not a fanboy so it doesn't really matter what systems i have.
Great to be at another forum for a change. :D
im new too but guess il say it anyway. Welcome to OCR :D
Hello, KitchenLand! Interesting name. How did you get it.

Nice title!
I'm really not a grammar nazi - as long as what you've written is as easy to read as "proper" grammar, I'm fine with it. But punctuation was invented for a reason, and that captured it right there.

Not to pick on you, but you're wrong :-P. Anyway, you seem to have a clear grasp of punctuation, which is nice, and you seem to have the ability to write coherently, which is even better... now just use appropriate capitalization and you'll be perfect . I see it quite well. Now continue to post with that level of knowledge of written communication, and before you know it you won't be a n00b or a newbie ;-). Another thing you should note, for situations exactly like the one you just mentioned: there's an edit button and a delete button on all your posts. The delete button can only be used on posts that don't have any other posts after them; the edit button can be used at any time, though it's usually polite to note at the bottom what you've edited.

All right, I know I'm new, and I personally hate it when new people on my forums make such a bold request as this, but whatever... what comes around goes around, I s'pose. Seeing as this is a community of people who like games enough to remix the themes and underscores, I find it a bit odd that there is no subforum for gaming talk and whatnot. Are there any plans at all for beginning one? If not, then I guess this is a suggestion for it. My two cents.

Oh, OCR is all about games, you just have to make the right post and give it a good subject. What kinda games are you into? If you want I can start a thread on any topic you want if you don't want to. Sorry there's no subforum, but if you want the basics, drop by the GenDisc (General) forum and make posts there.
Just because you're a newbie doesn't necessarily mean you have to hang around in the Newbie/Tech Help forum. I was a n00b for less than a day, and this is my second day. You'll fit in fine.
If you haven't taken that mystical trip to UnMod yet, you should do so, just in case. Some advice: the UnMod forum isn't so much a school/work friendly enviornment as say GenDisc. So be cautious, but not afraid.
As for your suggestion, this site is really under the control and supervision of djpretzel, so that's that. Oh, and no custom avatars, as neminem said. Just make the coolest damn sig you can. Avatars aren't that big anyway.

Hello everyone new. (Too lazy to look)
I suggest we let all of the new member in on some of our unwritten rules (that haven't been said yet). These rules have to do with usage of 1337 speak, Favorites threads, topic that recently been done, and other stuff that I probably forgot.

Oh, if you want to make sure your sig pic works, there's a thread in this very forum section for that kind of thing: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11654
And if you want someone to make you a sig, just go here: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35538
Just tell them how you want it done. Provide some art that you would want in it (it makes things easier), and you will probably be provided with a sig pic with your alias and everything! Or if you notice which people are usually the ones that make the sigs, PM one of them with the details of how you want your sig to look.

Hi! I'm new here. I discovered this site accidentally at work this weekend while looking for some good video game music. The fact that now I've registered just goes to show that I've found it. I'm 29 yrs. old, married with a 3 yr. old daughter who I hope will grow up to be a geek like me one day. I've always been interested in reading forums on other sites, but never participated before. I think I've found my niche here. Seems like there's quite a lot of people here who gel with my personality (i.e.: my love for video games and music) You'll probably see my posts coming mostly on the weekends when I'm at work. I work a 13 hour overnight shift with little to do but surf the net once the works is done.
I think the main thing that drew me to the forums here is the fact that the people who contribute, know how to express themselves in complete sentences and do their best to observe the laws of grammer, not that abbreviated garbage that you see all over the place these days (omg 1 have l33t sk1llz!).
If you can't figure out my screen name, I took it from the Harry Potter book "The Goblet of Fire" named after the blast ended skrewts that Hagrid was raising in that book because they just sound cool and I also figured that noone else would have that particular name.
I guess that's enough blabbing for now, you'll see more of me around the boards as time passes. Thanks for having me on board.

Hello there, I have actually been surfing and downloading from this site for quite a long time now, but haven't bothered getting involved with the forum until recently. I have often gone to the "judges decision" forums to see what is said about the music, but that was about all.
A little about me:
Age: 30
Sex: Male
Hair: Short, a boring shade of brown
Eyes: Brown, with a little green thrown in.
Height: 6'4" -and I am short in my family...
Social status: Never married, no kids.
Favorite Books: The Wheel of Time series, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Cartoon History of the Universe, Out of this Furnace by Thomas Bell, Hamlet, Second Treatise of Government, by John Locke.
John Locke (1632-1704):
"The Philosopher of Freedom."
"Good and evil, reward and punishment, are the only motives to a rational creature: these are the spur and reins whereby all mankind are set on work, and guided." (Locke.)
Fav Video Games: Prefer RPG, I love anything by Blizzard Games...
Fav Movies: Boondock Saints, Kill Bill, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Fav TV: I don't watch it much, but I will sit and watch any of the Star Trek series.
What I do: I Work for Dell. I hate it. I wanna go back to school... until I become a teacher, anything I do is just a job, not a career.
Psychological Conditions: I hate being in water deeper than a foot or two. I also don't sleep much. Other than that, nothing at all, I am perfectly fine. PERFECTLY. FINE. Just fine, I tell you... GAAAH!
:dstrbd: <--- I like that little guy.

Hey everyone, I've been visiting this site for almost 2 years now, and well, I thought i should be a part of it. I have listened to many, many remixes over the course of time, about 200+, if not more, and I'm very impressed with what I've heard, so much, that i thought i'd like to honor (or dishonor if you don't like me) this site with something i'm not too shabby at making.
I make flash animations, serious mostly, and am completing a work that has taken months of actual flash work, and years of offtime improving my equipment, art, etc.
OC remix provides me with about 90% of the music i use because of it's melody, nostalgic tunes, and excellent variations. I am making a series to showcase, and I would like to be here to help spread the good name of OC remix as well. I thank all composers and remixers as well... who knows... I can't play an instrument too well, but i write it, and my bro plays... maybe we'll make something someday.
In any case, I'd like to say hello to everyone and hope i can help and participate as much as possible. Thank you.

Hello Everyone,
I thought since this is my first time in the forums I'd just say hi to you all. I'm a 21 year old that's actually been coming to this site for a few years now, and I've been a huge fan since I first laid ears on the place. I've made myself a nice collection of CD's from some of the remixes here. Have to say some of my favorite Remixes come from Final Fantasy 6 though, but thats been my all time favorite final fantasy simply because its that game who's music first inspired me to learn to play piano. since then I've learned to play guitar too, shadows theme was my first guitar song :D
Well I should tell you a little more about me.. Ive been married since I was 19 to a beautiful wife I met over the internet. Im originally from Alberta Canada but moved to New Hampshire USA so my wife could be with her family. I have a 14 month old son who actually is a young fan of many of the songs on this site. I'm a pretty nice guy so don't be afraid to make friends with me, I dont bite.

Hey, I'm not exactly a n00b, but what the hell.
Name's SILVERWOLF_87, Live in Oregon and I'm good with computers. Whether it be programming, digital imaging, building, gaming, repairing, or just tweaking, I've done it all. Hell, I even made a computer case out of legos (check my sig).
I also enjoy making things. Mostly maps for games. I'm working on a really kickass warcraft 3 map right now with a few other people from the clan AFO WC3 division. Stay tuned :)
Anyway, I'm working on a remix of my own, but I probably won't submit it, due to the fact that I lack recording equipment for my piano and don't want to learn any music software. I could always use the cheap microphone that I have laying around somewhere

Ah, you wish for me to bestow upon you the knowledge dealing with what I call, The Scarlet Crusade. It is a map being developed by 3 people. Me, A friend of mine, and the Clan AFO WC3 division leader. I do the triggers, which are fairly complex, my friend does the custom scripts (e.x. having villagers have their own personality. In other words, some villagers walk around randomly, others go and work at the rock quarry, some go to the bar and get into a bar fight, etc...) and the leader is doing the story/terrain/cinematics. We also have another person, who is a professional artist I think, creating the custom picture that will show when the map starts (like vampire hunters did).
Now then, gameplaywise, the map is somewhat similar to DOTA, except a little more complex. There will be PvP combat, but the game doesn't simply revolve around that. You must also complete quests, which will move the story along. The story is still in development, so I can't say much about it. It's also not my area. I just program triggers. To be blunt, it's similar to DotA, but also quite different, and better too
You can learn more by visiting our clan's webpage and looking at the WC3 division forums:
www.clanafo.com
(sometimes the main page doesn't load if you use a different browser than IE, but we're working on it)
EDIT: I wrote up a more detailed description of my map. You may view it Here (http://www.clanafo.com/postp71521.html#71521)

Hi all, I'm Artemis and I come from Ontario! I've been coming to this site for a long while to listen to the music and I finally decided to become a poster on these forums. Though I am only a twelve year old, don't think that my posts won't be well done. :D

Welcome to all the new people. Most of you seem like you'll fit in fine, so go and have some fun in the forums. Oh, and Artemis, you may want to stay away from UnMod for a while, lest your innocent mind be destroyed.

There is nothing vulgar about Unmod, you all seem to be mistaken. Shame on you for filling his mind with such slander. :D

Yay! A 12 year old who doesn't appear to be stupid, given the lack of leet, aol-speak, etc. and the normal distribution of punctuation! Such a rarity, and a much-liked one ;-).
OMG FIRST POST! IM POGO! MY FAV GAME IS CHRONO TRIGGER DO YOU LIEK IT?
I ALSO LIKE COWBOY BEBOP AMND GOLDEN BOY CUX THEIR COOL. MY FAVORITE REMIXERS ARE DJPRETZEL AND PROTRICITY!
I should have looked for a thread like this when i registered.
I don't really specialize in anything... I like to think i have a good ear and am handy with a controller, but i know that there are plenty of people out there who could beat me at most of the games that i play... I have a tendency to only capitalize the letter "i" when it appears at the beginning of a sentence or proper noun. It's not gimmick i have, it just seems to happen naturally... I'm actually pretty sure that i used to leave them all in lowercase.
I really do blindly value Chrono Trigger over any other game in existence, and will probably do so for until i die...
...also, i try to keep my text shut around here, because i usually piss someone off whenever i say something...

hello everybody!
I am new to the site, but for anybody who frequents the electronic video game section of newgrounds.com - i am well known as Chronamut, the legend in that genre. Anywhere u see the name chronamut on any site that is me his name is unique to me. Ive been getting comments on my music since i post so many that i should start sumbitting some to OCremix so i have decided to start doing that. I also want to start getting some constructive feedback on my music instead of the run of the mill "it's good" - because its hard to give the ppl what they want if you dontget any good feedback. Thats about it and expect to see my head popping about soon!

I don't really know too much about mixing...but I find my ear having a powerful attachment to music, so I think I may want to learn the basics to all this.
P.S.: Thanks for the comments, and though it may not be true, I'll try to keep my image looking pretty innocent...Before I go into UnMod...muahahah...hey, what's that I hear? Aww...damned parents ruining all my fun. :? :D [/i]

Your threads get deleted because of these following reasons:
A) The thread ends up where the users outright attack you or the thread.
B) The thread is about a discussion that is not suitable for the forums. Though most of those instances are locked with the moderator giving reasons why.
C) Thread is an accidental double-post. Usually, we'll keep the first thread there.
D) Thread has been mobed to another forum. Look around to the other forums. It might be there.

"NUN-UH FAG! HALO SEXES YOU!!!"
Stuff like that, just over and over.

Yeah, this hello is way too late for me but what the hell. I'm CC Ricers (NOTHING to do with cars), OCR rocks, et cetera, etc.
Actually, I've been coming to this site since late 2002/early 2003. I was just downloading remixes, that's all. I think my first one was some weird thing by DJ Seith. But I joined the forums in the beginning of last winter, put off posting here for a while, and came back in June.

Afternoon, everyone!
Another n00b here, though only by my registry date. I have frequented this site to download music for AGES, but have just never bothered to register on the boards until now.
Anyway, nice to be here!
Hi, good luck finding that person you're looking for.
