Wow, this only took... way too fucking long. More than six months, I believe.
Make sure you see the video by Dave Kelly.
As for the song, it's one of the best produced songs on this website. By far. Where as most people don't know how to mix their music (epecially when it comes to vocals), this is a nice example of excellent sound quality and understandable vocals.
Crazy shit, but good shit. I love it.

What the hell!? O_o I like the vocals and lyrics. "Don't you know that I used to know karate? I punch you in the peepee or i can just call the cops." The only thing is, and I suppose you were aiming to do this, the music sounds campy. Actually, I suppose it kinda helps the appeal of the mix. Overrall, I'm not too sure we're gonna see too many goofy lyrical remixes here at OCR so, kudos to Dale North!
Oh yeah, and you have to see the video. That dirty old man...

LOL! OMFG that is funny. I would run it through my normal routine breaking apart and repiecing the song pointing out every little nuance but hey this song isn't serious enough for it. It was definetley at the very least a smile cracker for everyone but for me... hahaha. I laughed my ass off. I'm still laughing and trying to type. You will have to forgive my if i misspell anything. I have a feeling I will be listening to this song a little alot more often.

Wow, you're only . . . four months off the mark! Dale submitted this in December. Please don't assume incorrectly, negatively, and publicly.
As for the song, it's one of the best produced songs on this website. By far.
I like the track, or I wouldn't have posted it, but no. You've got stuff that's better, I've got stuff that's better, and Dale's got stuff that's better. And gauging "production" is difficult because someone can intentionally be going for a sound that isn't pristine, plus producing itself can mean strict audio engineering (i.e. mixing & mastering) or a whole suite of modifications and even melodic and harmonic touches, ala Brian Eno, Flood, or a number of other producers that exert more control.
Crazy shit, but good shit. I love it.
We agree :)
DJP pretty much said what I wanted to say to mustin...so I wont get into it.
This song is weird...WHICH IS GOOD! Yea, the recoding is pretty good. Dale should make a none weird song with vocals...something like a slow song? I think Dale would be the man to do it. Just an Idea..Keep up the good work...your one of the remixers I always download without thinking twice.

What the fuck provoked this? I just said that it's one of the best produced songs on this website. So why do you think you need to chime in with some mindless banter about how we all have stuff that's better (and just how?) and give some little spiel about production value or something?
I really don't understand. So check out the 10 mixes that are posted now. There's Dale's, then there's McVaffe's, and everything else does not sound near as good. Just a fact - doesn't mean they're bad songs. Just means they don't have the proper equipment to create a solid sounding mix.
I know I don't have anything that sounds as good as this. That's a fact.

Usually I think mustin's a pretty cool guy. That statement alone shows how I feel about what he said recently. Well...If you know me well it does...
ANYways, I'd probably be inclined to agree with him and say that all the songs on the page in recent memory have been...not what I'd want to listen to. In fact, I'd probably be most inclined to say that I didn't like Dale's new mix, despite the fact that I haven't heard it (Nor any song on this site since February of last year, save those by personal friends...and a lot of them sucked too).
HOWEVER, he DID say that it was one of the best remixes on the site, to which I reply, "do you need a bashin' on the noggin?" There's virtue in subtlety. You can go about making a point, and saying how much you like something, but there probably are a lot of talentless people out there crying into pillows because of you, Mustard. now, If I weren't completely indifferent to the feelings of others, I'd say you were a nasty fellow who needed a pickle shoved somewhere unpleasant. But then who am I to judge? My songs obviously haven't got much attention in recent memory...(and probably won't in future)...
Hmm...this post was supposed to be fueled by rage and indignance....but I don't actually have any personal attachment. I guess for once I feel like standing up for some poor folk who've only got a hacked version of Fruityloops and some default samples. I was one of those people a long time ago....And I STILL only have that same hacked copy of Fruityloops, with those same default samples (though I've got a bit more skill and some soundfonts....) The point is that posting crap on OverClocked Remix will undoubtedly help give the makers of said crap a boost in confidence that will either lead to the production of more of said crap, or lead to the progression and inevitable increase in skill, development of style, etc. that beginning music artists need.
So hush, you silly man. You've been hanging out with overly hostile people too long, selling out too much (oh no, I said it), and forgetting about the whole meaning of this music crap in general. Music is about appreciation. If you don't "appreciate" it, well you can just sit at home, make several thousand mixes like "La samba de Agua" and know you're getting nothing less than the best, while talentless folk frustratedly try to figure out how to produce some noise that someone somewhere might just have an affinity for.

[sits everyone down]
Today, class, we're going to learn how to FUCKING READ.
Please, do me a favour. Read my posts. Don't read in-between the lines because I don't write like that.
Please note - "and everything else does not sound near as good. Just a fact - doesn't mean they're bad songs. Just means they don't have the proper equipment to create a solid sounding mix."
Did I say they were bad songs? Did I say they were uninspired? Did I say that there's no reason these people should be making ReMixes?
Class: "No."
That's right, kids. I just said that they don't sound near as good. Here's your first assignment - take Dale's song and then listen to a song by one of your favourite artists with vocals (non-VGM). They sound pretty simliar. I'm not talking about the notes or the arrangement or the content of the song (how many songs do you listen to about punching in the pee pee?), but I'm talking about the overall sound quality. You can hear how Dale spent time on his mix and his mastering job, just like your favourite artist.
Then, you can grab one of the other remixes. I'm going to use Beatdrop as an example 'cause he's a good sport and I admire him a lot. Put Beatdrop's new Chrono Trigger track up against one of your favourite artists that does instrumental music (non-VGM). It's just not as clean or as bright or as seperated. That's not so much Beatdrop's fault as it is the equipment he uses. This does not mean it's a bad song - it just means that it doesn't sound as good as, say, Aphex Twin, which is what I'm comparing it to. And, I gotta be honest, I like a lot of elements that Beatdrop has in his song more than the Aphex Twin song that I'm listening to now.
So, class, are you beginning to understand?
Class: "Kinda. Meh. I guess."
Well, it's a start.
And DJ_StarChild, you're leaving out a word in your quote.
"he DID say that it was one of the best remixes on the site..."
No, I said it was "it's one of the best produced songs on this website."
I didn't say it was the best (I think that has to be po!'s "City Lights" or Pasq42's "Prelude Refractive" - at least, they're my favs). So don't put words in my mouth or leave them out, 'cause that's just as bad.
So rock on. Please make sure to keep on mis-understanding me. If you think that I'm knocking the people on this site, then you're dead wrong. I started posting my remixes here, just like the majority of the people. I've had the drive, amibition, and talent to take it much farther, and I'm thankful for that. But I gotta pull a J-Lo here and say, "no matter where I go I know where I came from."
Oh, and djpretzel, I forgot to say that I didn't know that Dale had submitted the mix in December. He had implied to me that it had taken much longer than that. My bad. But I still hate you :)

I'll be sure to keep misreading you, mustard. Besides, where would you be without guys like me telling you to stop hanging out with people who have arguments for fun?
The point was that you weren't supposed to make comments like that in the first place unless it's obviously an hyperbole. People take offense (I didn't....and It seems that the few weirdos who actually read this forum didn't either) but yeesh...common sense. You don't go talking about the algae green infected vaginal rash of your spouse at a formal gathering when she's beside you, do you? Women may do it all the time, but unless you're a woman, keep your phrases that could be misunderstood as something offensive, though they may not be, to yourself.
I'll cry next time...I swear....look I'm already tearing up...no wait...I just have to pee.
Oh well....yeah....that's the end of this pointless post. It's strange how my arguments always end with me mentioning a bodily function I need to put into action.

Since you're playing the role of teacher, allow me to play the role of "Goth-boy who plays Doom and wants to kill everyone with his father's shotgun".
Now, here is the dialogue as follows:
Mustin: Ok class, today we're going to discuss musics, specifically why my opinions on music are all that matter, and we'll also cover why I know everything about everything worth knowing.
Little girl: Can I go to the bafroom?
Mustin: omfg shut your fuckin ass up and sit the fuck down before I pull down my pants and assrape your father
Some dude: You don't know shit you fuckin cockgoblin!
Mustin: Ok, go fuck yourself I own you bitch. Go to the principals office now or i'll smoke your meat cigar.

Yeah, let's not soil the fun of the ReMix. It is, after all, a lighthearted piece, and discussing it too seriously takes all the fun out of lines like "I punch you in the peepee" . . . anyone that follows Mustin's op-eds will note at the least a consistency in being heavily biased towards himself and those closest to him. If you can derive any objectivity whatsoever from such a pattern, more power to you. I usually don't point this out, because he ends up tirading and things get ugly fast (see above), but I'm also not gonna sit quiet all the time when I see statements like his original post, which should (and would) embarass most well-adapted artists.

I'm just an innocent bystander here, and I hate to drag out this ugliness farther, but I can't help but draw attention to this:
As for the song, it's one of the best produced songs on this website. By far. Where as most people don't know how to mix their music (epecially when it comes to vocals), this is a nice example of excellent sound quality and understandable vocals.
People "don't know how" to mix their music. Not "don't have the means" or "don't have the equipment". "Don't know how". It's an implicit attack at a remixer's mixing skill, not an objective statement.
Don't read in-between the lines because I don't write like that.
I don't know you Mustin, but I don't buy it. Everyone writes like that, whether they mean to or not. Maybe if you paid more attention to the implications of what you are saying, you wouldn't run into these little misunderstandings. So just for your own future reference, when you say something like "people don't know how to mix their music", you are implying that a remixer is incompetent if he or she does not have superior sound quality on all his or her songs. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but that's what I interpreted from it. Maybe if you would get the bile out of your tone, people wouldn't misinterpret what you said so much.
But, and again I don't know you, but it occurs to me that it's very easy to say something through implication, and then when someone points it out, go, "I didn't say that! Read what I said! Idiot! La!La!La!La!La!" and cover your ears (and your ass). Now I'm not saying that that's what you're doing here. Like I said, I don't know you, and I wouldn't presume to pretend like I did. But still, if I've taught you anything in my post about the art of implication, maybe you'll catch my meaning...

This mix isn't fun or lighthearted. It is racially insensitive and frankly, fairly offending, to me, personally. I have close friends who own Asian restaurants, and they don't like it when people come in asking if it's a "Pharmacy." I know this isn't portrayed in the song, but the sterotype of asian's owning a pharmacy is just plain wrong. Dale, grow up. Mustin, and DJP, I think you two have some bigger problems to discuss...No, NOT the music, how about the racially motivated subliminal messages embedded in this song?

Ok, the game is set in Japan (Well, the American version isn't because it's an Americanized piece of crap, but I digress), and in Japan I think it's safe to assume that most people who own pharmacies would also be Japanese. In the game, the pharmacy owner is a perverted Japanese man. If this actually is a racial stereotype, well the Japanese are basically making fun of themselves and Dale is just going along with it. It's all in good fun. This song rocks btw.

Heard this a long time ago on VGMIX Dale, and had a good laugh. Clever lyrics....the entire thing reminded me o fsomething along the lines of Adam Sandler. And the sound quality is nice and crisp, EQ'd nearly perfectly.
As for all this nonsense and arguing going on over the timing of it, I'd just like to tell a select few people to listen to themselves once in awhile, put away the pretention, and settle down. It's not a competition, it's a hobby, and it's supposed to be fun.

True systemaniac....but what I think mustin meant by being a great recording was by the complex parts. Anyone can do what you just said correct......but why does little Jimmy make his song with SBLive reverb effects, and hollywood guys hook theirs into a $10,000 reverb hardware system? There IS a difference. You're basically talking about the MP3 encoding, not the actual production process. I'm in recording classes right now, and all we're discussing is how to create a rich "hot" sound. Of course, we're using equipment I could never afford right now, but that's the point. Nice hardware gets you a better signal. For example:
A computer mic may work...even with no clipping either, but it has a shitty sound. But if you have a nice $500 condensor mic hooked into a decent preamp, then your signal is much hotter, have less noise, and just all around a smoother, more vibrant sound. This goes with anything.
I don't necessarily agree with mustin for it being the best song on the site, but hey.....it's music. Get used to the politics. I DO understand where he was coming from though about the song being a great recording. It isn't bad, but not pro-level either. Sink about another $15,000 in some kickass hardware, and you should be DAMN close.
Now everyone shutup.
Funny song. :D
DaleNorth

I agree with Jared. It dosent sound that good. Its definately not the best on the site But why would you want something of that content (lol) to sound 'good'.
I do have about $8,000 worth of recording gear, but I typically won't bust out my condenser or even the outboard processing for "punch you in the pee-pee" music.
I am kinda happy how the sound turned out on this one, and pretty good considering I used the cheapest mic we have and went cheap/quick on the processing. I used my cheapest synth too (on purpouse) The effects were outboard Lexicon, but everything else was poopy. I think someone said it sounded cheezy- thats exactly what I was going for.
But on the flip side, If mustin likes it that much- this it IS the best song on the site TO HIM.
I've just got new TC outboard gear and have MOTU interfaces coming soon to replace my M-audio ones I've outgrown (delta1010, 410)- but be assured, anything talking about pee-pee and boobies will probably be done the same way - cheap and fast.
Thanks again for all the compliments (and singing along)- any suggestions on a new comedy bit?

Okay, um... I guess I should play the Devil's advocate. Let me analyze Mustin's original post a bit.
Wow, this only took... way too fucking long. More than six months, I believe.
Bad: Calling DJP slow prolly isn't great. Also, he got a fact wrong - but he admitted his mistake later, so it can be forgiven.
Good: If he thinks it took too long to get posted, he must like the song. If it really had taken 6 months, I'd respect that he feels that's too much time - and since that's how long he thought it took, you can respect his feelings there.
Make sure you see the video by Dave Kelly.
More praise.
As for the song, it's one of the best produced songs on this website. By far. Where as most people don't know how to mix their music (epecially when it comes to vocals), this is a nice example of excellent sound quality and understandable vocals.
Bad: He doesn't think most people know how to mix their music, especially when it comes to vocals. This likely offends people who have mixed music with vocals before, but you know, I have heard several sub-par lyrical pieces on this site. Some great ones too, but...
Good: He doesn't name names, and neither will I -- after all, I wouldn't be able to do ANY mixing whatsoever, good or bad. And when he says he thinks this is one of the best-produced songs on the site, and that it has excellent sound quality and understandable vocals, aren't those compliments to Dale North? Mustin thinks that Dale spent a lot of time working on this, and that he did a fantastic job on it. I guess that offends people who think they've made better songs in the past, but... hey, it's just Mustin's opinion, right? You can disagree... but don't call him names over matters of opinion! That just makes you look dumb.
Crazy shit, but good shit. I love it.
More compliments.
I really don't understand why so many people decided Mustin was lashing out at them. And what's with these "sell-out" comments? Has Mustin somehow managed to make money in the video game or music industry? If so, congratulate him! Don't make nasty, bitter comments about how he's "sold out" until he's got 10 million dollars and there's Mustin brand window cleaner.
I'm sorry if I'm offending anybody. Really. And noone will likely read this since the mix has been up for a while. But if you're steaming, and hopping mad, and sweat is pouring down your face, then please, just take a moment to breathe, and blink, and say to yourself, CALM THE FUCK DOWN, ASSHOLE!

I hadn't used Flash in over a year, and that was 4. I was using 5 which is slightly different. I decided to relearn Flash and used Dale North's Chu Chu remix because it was quick and quirky. Dale North saw it and said "You HAVE to animate this one!" I thought "Why not" since I was still re-learning Flash.
Long story short: my first two animations in over a year were Dale North remixes and I think he is talented.
I may do a "special edition" Pharmacy video with a higher framerate, better graphics, and sing-along option, but that is for another day!
DJPretz: You don't EVER have to put up my Zelda remix. I'm nowhere NEAR as talented as all these artists here. I'll stick to cartoons...

I was falling asleep in the library, trying to find a way to stay awake, when I found the Persona LiveJournal community link to overclocked and this ReMix.
It definitely kept me awake.
People who don't know the games might not get as much of a kick out of it as the ones that do, but it's *damned* funny anyway.
Not only was it amusing and kept me from snoring facedown on my laptop, the mix of the background music was chipper and fun, too.
This was great. It made my day.
I have to go play Persona II, now. Every time I walk into the Pharmacy, I'm going to hear this song. -_-
And I'm singing along too, darn it. *twitch*

This is a great peice. It's funny, the music's catchy, and overall a very good arragnement. The lyrics are smooth, and transition with the song's original melody, not to mention they are flat out hilarious. The samples are really good, and don't sound synthesized. Overall, very well done.

I dislike this remix, although I'm apparently one of few who do. I usually hate joke things in the first place, but getting onto ormgas to find this playing is really irritating, when compared to such great songs lying around the website.
It's annoying and unfunny, and belongs on a site dedicated to humor remixes rather than a site like this.

LMAO! You know, the mix is kinda' funny. But what's funnier is that I turn to here and it's DALE yet AGAIN!! I swear!! The problem with the torrents is that they don't credit the author (cept maybe in the id3 tag that foobar doesn't show). Are all the best mixes by Mr. North?!!!

Just recently downloaded all of mr. North's stuff, and I have to say that this is great! So obscenely crazy, and yet so addicting. Love all your stuff Dale, and look forward to more of it. Much more.

This song just came up on my playlist. I had to suppress laughter.
I always like comedic songs (well, within reason, I mean they have to at least be good to begin with). This one definitely does what it sets out to do... it's not serious or great quality, nor is it really trying to be--it's just a cranky and sketchy drug store owner. And hilarious.
Oh, and... since this is pretty old, the music video links no longer work. No one would still happen to have that floating around, would they? KF

Sounds like a song Adam Sandler would sing.
Crazy stuff. Crazy.
I approve.
