View Full Version : Pixietricks' Solo Album, Origins - New Song 12/23!

Hey guys. I have a bit of exciting news to announce. First and foremost, my first original album is currently underway! That's right - one album, one me, and... an indeterminate number of songs. ^_~ When will be the release, you ask? I'm shooting for this coming spring, 2008. A realistic goal, I believe, but I'll hold off on the specifics until things are closer to completion.
The album itself will feature soaring vocal tracks mixed with a dash of ethnic/electronic flavor. Inspired by such artists as Enya and Loreena McKennitt, I hope to envoke an emotional response through my music while exploring new methods of lyrical communication. If you've downloaded any of my video game remixes, expect music along a similar vein... only better! Special appearances from zircon, and possibly other interested artists from the community, as well.
Now, if you are a particularly zealous fan - or even a mildly curious person - then you're in luck! I have finally set up an official mailing list, which will allow me to send out the occasional update with samples of my current work, release dates, and other tasty tidbits. If you're at all interested, don't hesitate to join! Just head over to the "Contact" page on my website, enter in your email address, and check off the "Join my Mailing List" option before submitting. I doubt I'll email you more than once a month, but you can always remove yourself from the list if you decide you've heard enough of my voice for a while.
Anyway, I'm definitely psyched for this project. I have two tracks completely finished, one almoooost done, another in progress, and several rough sketches. Things are coming along well! I'll post a couple previews on my site and myspace in a bit, but first dibs to those on the mailing list. :>

I probably won't do any vg remixes on the album, mostly for legal reasons because I'm too lazy to go through the permissions process... But never say never. :P

Right on, Pixie! Sounds amazing - super pumped to hear it (in 10 months, lol).
ps: Loreena McKennitt is amazing, fine small-town Manitoba girl! (I grew up in small town Mantitoba as well, but not the same town as Ms. McKennitt, boo.)

As I'm helping to produce/master some of the tracks, I can say all of the ones I've heard so far are great. Even if you don't like some of pixie's remixes, you'll no doubt find something you like here as there are a lot of styles involved. :)

This should be quite interesting, your works have always been very unique and flat out awesome so i'm very curious how your album is going to be. I'm also a big Enya fan which influences it a lot too. Good luck, pixietricks.
Jillian Aversa
07-31-2007, 04:33 AM
Thanks! And yeah, to expand upon what zircon said earlier... I think you'll find the tracks on this album of higher quality than a lot of my remixes here. I've been paying much more attention to detail than I normally would for a vg tune, and with Andy's mastering expertise things should sound pretty polished in the end. :>

I can't manually add you to the list without knowing your name and email address, but it's easy. Just go to this page (http://www.jilliangoldin.com/contact), enter your return address, check off the "Join my Mailing List" box, and click submit. You will then receive an ugly confirmation email that requires you click one last link to activate your subscription. ^_~

For anyone that isn't receiving their confirmation emails:
1. Check your spam filter! The message subject has a bunch of letters and numbers in it, which make it look kind of like junk. It's ugly, but I can't change it unfortunately.
2. If you still don't have it, I will go back and manually add you in. I've been saving the contact emails. Just let me know if you think you've slipped through; I'll post when I actually use the list for the first time. It'll probably be at least a few more days.

This is amazing... As usual with your music, I can't stop listening. I might end up just having these play on repeat for half the day...
... ... ...er... except 'Oops'. Playlist just got up to that one.
Anyway, first thing I thought when I read the descriptions was "Great! I'm not the only one who liked Voyager!" Red July is incredible, especially the bit from 0:22~0:44 (that I'm guessing will be the chorus?). I also really like the theme you're going with in "Hajime", not to mention the percussion. Though, regarding the third sample, I'm not sure; I think I'd have to hear more of it.
Can't wait 'til the next time you want to send out some samples. I'm really looking forward to this. KF

Red July (http://www.soundtempest.net/jill/album/previews/redjuly.mp3)
Hajime (http://www.soundtempest.net/jill/album/previews/hajime.mp3)
Shadows (http://www.soundtempest.net/jill/album/previews/shadows.mp3)

Yes: this coming spring, 2008. ^-^
Breathe and Dive probably sounds a little weird out of context. There is actually a whole introduction leading into that track, which sets the stage for the "forgotten temple" atmosphere.

09-21-2007, 03:24 AM
"Breath and Dive" was written and produced by Jill - all I did was some mixing/mastering and a few string stabs. Same goes for "Hajime" (I didn't do the strings for that though.)
"Winds of Change" used an instrumental I wrote/produced that was only about 2:00 long - Jill loved it and helped me to arrange an extended version with new parts, and then she wrote the melody, harmonies, and lyrics.
Though Jill didn't preview the intro, the way it flows with "Breathe and Dive" is really cool; once you hear 'em side by side in full, I'm sure you will agree. The climax of "Winds of Change" is also REALLY amazing, I've never heard her sing in such a powerful and soulful style. Maybe I'm biased, but I give it two thumbs up!! :)

I was thinking the same thing when I first listened to it... Not just lyrically out-of-context, but the melody sounded kind of funny (background melody, more so than the vocals), like something was missing at the beginning.
'Winds of Change', I think I'm really looking forward to. That and 'Hajime' are the best of the samples thus far. KF

There's nothing "missing" per se, but you're probably reacting to the dissonant movement of the background "ooh" vocals. It's supposed to sound eerie. :-P

Yesssss... Think Ocarina of Time's "Forest Temple (http://www.soundtempest.net/jill/foresttemple.mp3)" theme, which was coincidentally the first song I ever remixed. It's definitely an inspiration for Breathe and Dive in terms of atmosphere.

Though you guys won't hear the full version of it for a bit, "Twilight Chaser" is a really cool track. Much like the belting vocals at the climax of "Winds of Change", Jill really does some fun stuff in TC that makes it unique. I'm glad to have collaborated on it. :)
I'm really liking every second of it. And the full-length version of Hajime is really awesome.
Can't wait for the next update and samples. ...and the release of the album of course. KF
