Some folks probably already know about this but, Pixel, the author of Cave Story, made a fun little top-down vertical scrolling shmup called Guxt.

Hot damn. This is definitely made of win. I'm not a fan of vshmups but I will definitely give it a shot. Can't wait for the RPG.

Simple but a blast to play. Pixel proves once again proves that sometimes being dead simple can be just as fun as being complex as long as the right parts are there.

Pixel has proven that he can make games. Just because [insert forum goer here] tried to make one on RPGMaker and failed miserably doesn't mean everyone else will.

Guxt is fun while it lasts, which is basically up until you beat the score attack mode once. It really needs more levels. I'd much sooner suggest Tyrian 2000 for a free PC shmup fix.
