View Full Version : New album by Destiny on sale
http://www.ocremix.org/remixer/destiny/ for those who don't know who she is. Helen hasn't been around this community for a while (supposedly she considered it a stepping stone), but was very highly regarded while she was here for the quality of her Enya-like vocal and instrumental work.
Her first album is a 2-CD endeavor, with a total of 22 tracks. The first disc is called Inside Myself and contains the bulk of the songs on the album, while the second disc is entitled Once Upon a Time, having a fairy tale theme. You can buy it at her CD shop here:
http://www.faefly-records.co.uk/shop.htm (crossfade demos here (http://faefly-records.co.uk/community/index.php?topic=4.0))
Google Checkout only works for orders within the UK at the moment, unfortunately.
The price is a bit hefty at 8.49 GBP (~$17 USD), especially with international shipping if you're in the US, but most people who have heard her work will agree that it's worth it for 2 CDs of Destiny goodness. In addition, each copy will be personally signed by Helen, with an optional message of your choice.
Better hurry if you want a copy though: there are only 100 in print.

Why didn't Destiny announce this herself? Not that we don't adore our little DSHU, but I'm just curious.
...Also, I'll buy it when I get home. Her voice r good.

That's my theory. I found out about this album through another person's post on VGMix.

Probably the same reason why Shael doesn't post info about Captain S, cause she is lazy.
Haha.

I find that theory pretty hard to believe. I think it's more likely she's just a very, very busy little European.
edit: listened to the samples. She sounds FUCKING sublime.

The cd itself is about $17...but I bet shipping is going to be a pain.

Or perhaps because certain *COUGH* members the community would immediately make another attempt to get into her pantalonés, now that Jill is taken.
Which reminds me how saddened I am that a pixie/Destiny collaboration never transpired...
Edit: Shipping is 2.00 GBP outside Europe, so the total will be about $21.

I've been following the progress of this album and a half for a while. I'd say I have over half the songs already downloaded, but not all remastered and stuff - SO excited! "Dream of the Innocent" is the most beautiful song you'll ever hear. I ordered my physical copy, despite the $21 price tag. ^o^
Which reminds me how saddened I am that a pixie/Destiny collaboration never transpired...
Yet! Helen had said on her MySpace that she's looking to collaborate with a female vocalist in a classical crossover style, so I immediately jumped on that. She was all for it, but we'll have to wait a while since we're each a little preoccupied with our albums at the moment.
Though what would be REALLY cool is if we could feature it as a special guest track on my release this spring. Good way to keep promoting "Inside Myself" as well...
You guys should definitely check out the Zine she's starting up through the FaeFly Records page. I think it's gonna be a great resource.

I ordered me one copy too...and I'm surprised of all places, VGMix is the one with the drama thread on this, not OCR 8-O .

I threatened to revoke Dhsu's journalistic license if he didn't blog'er up (http://oc.ormgas.com/links.php?18). Enjoyz. Again, best of luck regarding sales. 100 sounds like a very reasonable goal. I hope you made extras to give away as demos!

Hello!
*blink* I haven't been here for years. I was (pleasantly) surprised to discover that my login still works. :D
Anyway, a couple of little birdies told me about this thread so I sneaked in out of curiosity... :)
Thanks Dhsu for posting about it in the first place!
And thanks to anyone who has ordered - your CDs are on their way right now.
Just wanted to clarify a couple of things.
supposedly she considered it a stepping stone
Eh? Whose supposition was that? xD
It's not even close but OH WELL ^.^
The main reason why I haven't been around OCR (and VGmix) is that I've been more into songwriting the past few years, I just felt like working on originals more than remixes, and my degree has been keeping me really really busy too of course!
And I didn't post about it here because honestly I didn't even think of that :)
That said, I AM working on a remix... :P :P :P ('Evening Star' from SD3, I think) but if it turns out rubbish you will never know about it MARK MY WORDS. hee hee.
Anyway clearly I've run out of stuff to say, so I'll be quiet now!

Great to hear from you Helen.
Happy to hear that your originals are coming along nicely. Hopefully we do get to hear that SD3 song, cause that surely would be a treat.
Don't forget that you have friends and fans here. Don't be a stranger :D

Who got theirs so far? I just listened straight through, and then went back and put a lot of the songs on repeat. So amazing, it nearly brought me to tears! I probably would have cried if I didn't try to hold it back, but my throat was burning. *blush*

If CD baby is a bit cheaper... I'll totally get one. I just can't get myself to pay $21 for a CD when so many good games are coming out. But, I totally want this album, regardless... my poor wallet.

Well, it is the equivalent of two CD's. The first one has 17 full tracks, and the second another 4. I think $21 is an appropriate price, especially considering that includes shipping all the way from England. :<

I just got it.
Got your CD today. Royal Mail FTW.
You really outdid yourself with this. I hadn't even listened to a single song and I was already impressed with just the packaging! the butterfly sticker was a nice touch... then I got to track 18... :D
Also, I'm ripping this to mp3 because the CD is too nice and I don't want to ruin it X_X. Thanks for the letter Helen :D

Haven't had time to listen to it yet though.

First of all, I got the album today (yay!). Second, it's breathtakingly beautiful -- the best CD I've bought in an extremely long time. Finally, if every CD I ordered came with a letter about future plans and a handwritten thank-you note, I wouldn't download a tenth of the music I download now. Good stuff all around...congratulations again if you read this, Helen!

So I forgot to post here, but I got the CD back last Saturday (10 days or so for international mail isn't so bad). There was obviously a lot of effort put into the packaging - you just don't see so much there with most CDs, from the blue tissue paper to the handwritten & signed card. Now for the CD itself...I was surprised that there was two CDs, and at the number of songs. It was also different from what I expected, being largely piano driven. I liked a good number of songs, although I did have one problem - the vocals sounded mixed too far back - on my stereo, they definitely sound a little too faint compared to the instruments. I'm not sure whether this is intentional, but it's my only real complaint. Otherwise, nice work :)!!

Blue tissue paper? I just got a bubble-wrap envelope :( Then again, I also got mine internationally in 4 days, so I'm not complaining.
The mix sounded fine to me, other than a quiet hiss on some of the vocal tracks that was only noticeable when listening at fairly high volumes. Helen's aware of this. I would've liked to hear a version of Waiting For The Snow that focused on acoustic guitar as much as piano, and had a live part, but then it wouldn't have really been a solo project.
Or perhaps because certain *COUGH* members the community would immediately make another attempt to get into her pantalonés, now that Jill is taken.
What a sad truth, having a Vagina on here puts you on a wanted list.
I never really heard of Destiny till now, but definitely considering her CD. The samples were amazing for all the faults she picked out on her CD.

pixietricks also didn't have a problem with the mixing either - my settings on my stereo is -2 dB low, +6 dB mid & high. But it was more noticeably mixed back than most of my music.
Edit: So, I relistened briefly to a few other tracks to check, and I think it's with some of the songs where this is a problem, not necessarily all of them.

I haven't even had a chance to listen to the album yet, and the packaging has already made me glad I purchased it.
Signed CD insert with smiley face: check.
Handwritten note of thanks with confetti and butterfly stickers inside: check.
Wrapped in blue tissue paper and sealed with another gold butterfly sticker: check
Lovely album art to top it all off: check.
I don't think I've ever had an album give such a great impression before I even listened to it. This CD is already a one-of-a-kind experience. Thanks, Helen!

This sparkly album of happy glitter arrived in the postal mail just a couple days ago, and I can hardly stop playing it both in my car to & from work and on my computer at the apt. And that's something, considering it's competing against the recently-acquired discographies of both Enya and Loreena McKennitt (an acquisition far overdue).
Since it's playing now, I just have to say how The Mermaid Part I: The Storm sounds so very cinematic, especially if one were to ignore the synthetic nature of the instruments. Parts of the piece even remind me of the scores to Shore's Lord of the Rings and the game Advent Rising.
But most of all, what strikes me is the inspirational quality of these lyrics and the passionate expression with which they are sung. Even the melancholy within sounds uplifting. And often when a song may begin with darker thoughts, by the finish it has concluded not in the same state in which it began, but with a sense of hope, of self-discovery. This progression also seems oft reflected in the music itself, not content to be static and repetitively infectious, but more of a journey in mood and dynamics.
Lastly, I must admit that when I was ripping the CD, trying to find an appropriate genre for this album rather confounded me. But glancing upon Helen's new site, "faerie pop" does seem quite a fitting description. ^_^

Best CD purchase ever. I love the stickers (managed to save them and they now adorn my monitor) and the confetti- and mine even had a beautiful birthday message! Never before has a CD purchase made me feel quite so warm and fuzzy inside. Great stuff.

Aw, such kind words! ^^;;
It's a tempting idea to consider, and not a completely unfamiliar occupation. But I would readily exchange this alleged ability to mold the English language to my whims for an incredible fluency in the language of music, for the skill to delicately shape voice and tone into sonic emotion.
Although, I certainly hope you talented folks all keep up a stream of amazing review-fodder, whether I would be receiving money for tossing my opinion around or not.

Just bought it off Soundclick. I already have most of these, but I think I owe Helen for how awesome they were in the first place. So hooray Helen for finally smartening up and charging for your awesomeness! (Actually, she wasn't smartening up, she wanted to release a quality product. I appreciate it.) Kudos and keep up the EXCELLENT work.
