Hi I remember a long time ago there was a celtic music thread with some good suggestions of what albums to check out. Can we do that again? :)

I know one good one is Lifescapes - Relaxing Celtic.

Depends of if you are wanting like Irish Traditional Music (ITM), or something more contemporary. For trad, The Chieftains (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=114513402) are always a great choice. Sligo Rags (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=79855900) likes to mix ITM with American Bluegrass, so you have elements from both sides of the Pond.

If you're looking for something more contemporary, I'd suggest groups like MacTalla Mo'r (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=83357233), Needfire (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=46427240), Loreena McKennitt (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=167884862), The Elders (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=41318357), Runrig (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=209232096) or Altan (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=62920014).

Want Celtic Punk? Flogging Molly (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2987566) is okay, but I preferred Amadan (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=6995867).

If you want traditional Celtic, then go for Capercaillie (http://www.capercaillie.co.uk/).

If you want a fusion of Celtic, electronic and African, then go for Afro Celt Sound System (http://realworldrecords.com/afrocelts/).

Iona (http://www.iona.uk.com/index.html) (my all-time favorite band), Clannad (for more traditional stuff), Wolfstone (80's style power rock mixed with Celtic), Paddyrasta (http://www.paddyrasta.com) (Celtic/Reggae :P ), and all the stuff already mentioned...

Everything by Lunasa, particularly their self-titled first album. Beautiful. My home-girl who turned me on to them is on her honeymoon, otherwise I would get some more suggestions from her real quick. Stay posted.

Wolfstone

Oh, man, looked these guys up after you mentioned them, and they're great! Looks like I'm gonna have to buy all their CDs...

FUCK YEAH! Didn't know anyone else here enjoyed GBS or Canadian Folk Rock, GT. For more Canadian Celtic/Folk goodness, I'd suggest Glengarry Bhoys.

Also, check out Xenogears: Creid (http://www.rpgamer.com/games/xeno/xg/musicreviews/xgcstmusicrev1.html)...Xenogears + Celtic Music = Teh Awesome.

Ah, I remember someone going on a rant at how inconsiderate the band was to call themselves Great Big C, as (to them) the Big C meant cancer.
