I think anti-depressants work best in music form... but maybe that's just me.

Wow, the song actually sounds like it's having fun. It's just so happy-go-lucky.

The flute sounds a bit out of place to me though, I never really pictured the flute being used in this context, and it just didn't click right away.

But it's good enough to overcome that easily. I'll definitely listen to it again. :)

I think this is a pretty sweet song. It never gets boring, and you just bob your head to it. Also I like it how it transitions into new patterns. Just a really good song all together.

I dunno. I think it's a little over-the-top. I mean, I like styles where electronic and classical music blend. It sounds like a wedding musical of the present where the wedding is soft and sweet with classical music, and then the trance music comes in at the reception. This song kind of reminds me of the time in-between.

Really, it's neat, but the rythum of the flute is something I could do without. No offence. The remix is acceptable.

Thank you for creating a song that i can play on repeat for well over an hour.

I dont like the original because i perticularly dont like sonic but i really love upbeat, and since this is from imc how could i resist? lol.

Thanx a lot, and please make a lot more of this style.

*EDIT*EDIT*EDIT*
I cant really think of a way to describe the joy i get from hearing this. I love it!

how can you help but not smile when you listen to this? in any mood, this does it to me.

in a good mood i jump around, in a tired worn-out mood, it still draws the corner of my mouth up in a half-smile.

Nice mix. Definitly makes me smile. HappyHappyHappy. Gotta salute the man Darkesword for havin the guts to use lots of flutes in an electronic song. Its like he's saying, "My favorite color is pink! So what!" Well, not really, but yeah whatever. The classical type stuff done in this is quite well done and is a bit better than the electronic side to the mix. Not that the electronic parts are bad, just mebbe a bit less interesting. Good ending to a good mix. Thumbs up.

My favorite color is violet actually, and thanks. ^_^

I wanted to do something different than the normal synthy techno. I felt that adding natural elements to the song would make it a bit more unique. I've always liked melded styles of old and new.

For the record, this version of "Her Azure Eyes" is not the one I submitted to IMC3. The one I did for IMC3 is a shorter version; it doesn't have the entire B section (with the harp and strings). If you're interested in hearing the "development" of this mix, check it out at the IronMix Server (http://ironmix.rks.no-ip.com), in the Contest 3 folder, or just hit up my website and find "Her Azure Eyes IMC Remix." The version I did for IMC came in second place, right after analoq's own "Sonik Azure," which, IMO, is a wicked remix.

After writing the mix for IMC, I decided that as it was, the mix was too short and a little repetetive, so I changed up the construction a bit, spent some time writing out the whole B section, and split up some patterns for greater versatility in construction.

The entire mix took me about 5 hours to do, split up over the course of two Friday nights. Not bad, I think.

Now that I think about it, the long judging process here in OCR is very helpful in some respects. Over the course of two months, I've improved greatly as a remixer, and going back and listening to something I did weeks ago helps me understand the kind of mistakes I used to make. It really puts your mixing ability in perspective; I listen to this now and I think to myself that there are a few things I would have done differently that would have made this mix sound different from the way it is now.

Overall though, I'm pretty pleased with the result.

i think analoq deserved first place with his song. listen to his song and then listen to the song "breakfast at tiffany's" by "deep blue something" i believe and you will see just how pro that remix sounds.

Though i absolutely love this song, it just doesnt stand up there with analoqs... though i think both mixes are absolutely wonderful.

darke, please please please make more upbeat stuff.

if you do happy hardcore i garuntee youll get a good review from me, and im a HH freak, so if you take on ahppy hardcore, you can ask me for critique.

I think it does stand up there with analoq's, if you don't mind my saying so. It's not better (heavens no!), but it's up there. =\

SyZyGy, if you go back and look at the results for IMC3, you'll see that I ranked analoq's mix above my own in the contest. Personally, I think analoq's mix is very professionally done; but I also think mine is a good alternative that is completely different from analoq's mix, and also maintains a level of quality.

I really liked this piece. It's short, with pretty high-quality samples, and a blast to listen to. I tend to go for more ambient pieces (I downloaded this mix to see how it'd hold up to the older Azure Lake) but this song always gets me smiling. It's rare you find something this light-hearted and catchy that doesn't grate on the nerves. Kudos, and keep up the good work.

Woah... sweet! And I don't necessarily mean that in the colloquial sense. :) I loved this song, man. This is going into my playlist folder to provide an occasional sugary pick-me-up along with Pioneer and Welcome to the Metalic Party.

Oh yeah, DarkeSword, the 60's called. They want their elven glen back. :) Just kidding. The want their moments of optomistic innocence back. Hehe, okay, okay, nobody called. I'm just teasing because I like this song so much. :)

I must be one of the few people who doesnt like this one little bit.

I dont like the way the strings start and stop like that...
The flute, whilst being a good soundfont and no denying, annoys me with the timing it uses...

The synths irritate me...the rubbery one that breaks in near the beginning (Im at college so I cant d/l and give an actual time, here) just...it sounds completley out of place to me.

The whiney violin strings bug me when they go solo...they sound offkey or something (though this is probably just me) and dont really go with anything...when played with everything else theyre okay...probably because theyre pretty much drowned out by everything else.

Overall, I *really* dont like this track...at all...
But other people do...so I guess Im stupid.
I dunno, if you want a 'crazy' sounding happy track then go for it.

Swankity swank! I've had this OC ReMix for a while now, but haven't reviewed it. It's great; it keeps the original intact but makes it even happier and more varied. The ending is my favorite, kinda sounds Zelda-ish in a way, because of the instruments at least.

Personally, this one appealed to me. I thought that the synth backign works surprisingly well with the flute lead. I enjoyed the fluctuations in tempo and the occaisional breaks. Also, it didn't stray from Azure Lake's theme at all. It maintained the theme and remixed it pleasantly.

And, presonally, whenever I hear the Azure Lake theme in the game I whistle along. It's addictive, what can I say? And this song applies to the same rule. I just have to whistle with this one. Defenitely one of my favs.

Ok, just started the song [which is nicely done] over:

00:00 - Nice flute intro.

00:06 - Here come the synths.

00:12 - Here's where the trance comes in.

00:19 - You mixed the electronic trance beat perfectly with the flute. Starts going up from there.

00:34 - The flute still blends semalessly. I have to congratulate you on this.

00:59 - I like how you blended some electronic noises in the background there with the flute doing its own thing with the lower-paced melody.

01:04 - Here come the synths again.

01:12 - Perfectly placed break from the happy-go lucky melody...but it'll come back to haunt me...

01:24 - It's coming back from the break very fast, which is a good thing.

01:38 - You took out the flute there for a little bit and put a synth in its place flawlessly.

01:44 - Here comes the flute again.

01:56 - I like the underwater effect you put here.

02:09 - You aded more ambient electronic sounds with a few appearences from the flute.

02:22 - The flute's back as part of the main melody here.

02:48 - An electronic break from the happiness that's been building up. After that, most of the instruments from the song as a whole come back and build up to 03:26. After that, it's like some underwater percussion instrument leading the closing melody.

Overall, this is probably my favorite mix on OCR, even though I never played any games on any Sega system. Very, very happy. The flute is my favorite instrument in this mix.

Again, nicely done. 99%.

What a great remix. I think the original song is catchy and happy-go-lucky, this song just magnifies that so much. This song pops into my head all the time, even when I'm not thinking of it.

One could almost see an orchestra playing by Azure Lake...on Xanax and with a deejay. Ha, ha!

In all seriousness, this is one of my fave remixes: a lovely, happy, bouncing rendition of one of my fave songs from Sonic III. You don't need Prozac -- just listen to this song, and you'll feel happy!

I don't even care if I'm saying the same things that everybody else already has, this song deserves it. I always liked the Azure Lake BGM, and this remix embodies everything I liked about the original and instills it with much more emotion. I particularly like the filter sweeps on that wet, fat saw that starts at 00:12--fabulous-sounding synthesis. This is wordless, yet it could be a beautiful love song.

It's a good mix. Im not too crazy bout flute by I do like the way his string section sounds in this mix. Its an odd but excellent mix of musical styles. Classical/dance I never woulda guessed. Nice work.

This mix is good for maybe twenty seconds, but it gets really old really quickly. The sounds used are pretty cool, but the arrangement just takes about a five second riff and plays it over and over, and the variations are insufficient to make it interesting.

I'm not familiar with the original, so perhaps it's just because the original only has one riff and is really boring and repetetive as well.

I'm sorry to say that this is not one of DarkeSword's better mixes.

The filtered arp synth seemed to get a little hot a few times, but the rest was pretty good. Nice textures, but they get a little blurred in some spots. I do like the sunny and cheerful mood this one conveys though, and the mix of flute and synth is unique and cool. Drum samples are weak though.

Overall I enjoy the track, but DS has definitely done better. ;-)
