View Full Version : PRC103 - Last one to finish is a rotten Yoshi egg! (Mario Kart Super Circuit)
The People's Remix Competition 103
PRCv4-25
Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) And... what the Hell? We're almost at the end of season 4? I don't even know what to do for PRC104 when it comes to the sweepstakes!!
Anyway, the previous PRC saw some obscure Sierra material via Firehawk, and admist the turnout TheoConfidor pulled through with his first win, lending his hands to a little bit of a rock interpretation.
So for PRC103, he came through with his first choice of source. I know that the titular character in this title had already made an appearance in PRC101, but with Sonic appearing in two PRCs in a row earlier on this season, anything can go!
http://bev.wooff.googlepages.com/prc103.png
Here is my source tune for PRC 103. I picked this tune a long time ago to use as the source tune after my first win. I really like the melody of this piece and the driving bass line gives the piece strong forward motion. I look forward to hearing what everyone will create.

So yes, here we go from paper-thin character designs in a cute yet fun adventure/RPG to a solid GBA succession to one of few noteworthy non-adventure Mario spin-offs. I hope you'd find much from this one :D
GOOD LUCK!

Whoo! Theo makes a compelling choice. I just might have to enter again. >.<
I'm much more likely to enter when I recognize the source.
Edit: I decided to be lazy this time. I just stole an official wallpaper. The result is a better-looking sig. Maybe. Whoot.
Edit 2: Sigh.

Hmm... I have an idea for this song that also could fulfill a need to me to practice with a new sample library. Methinks I'll give it a shot.

Looks like it'll be down for the rest of the month. So, you taking entries directly, rexy?
I never knew that ThaSauce acted as one of the FF7 project mirrors; still this is weird, I never thought I'd see this happening to such a major information site.
In the event that you can't get it through on ThaSauce, a direct link will have to suffice; I'll then do the old fashioned way of getting the entries on Doulifee's web server and receiving votes by means of PM, although taking in the current voting system to account.

So, ThaSauce is still down and yet I actually have an interest in this song this time around. After going to www.vgmusic.com and listening to the source, I'm hoping that I'll have enough time to join this competition. College tests are usually huge stress-causers to me so we'll see if I pull something out of my sleeves or not.

I will most definitely be entering. My remix has gone past the "I might finish this" phase.

Also, I finished mine. I will upload it and all that stuff after I give it a next-day listen. Stuff always sounds different the next day, you know?

If you don't understand the title after reading the story, you must have bypassed childhood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luigi and Daisy are having a picnic in Sky Garden. It's a beautiful day, and everything is going perfectly...but suddenly, without warning, black clouds appear and cover the sky. Daisy cries out in dismay, worrying that it might rain on their strawberry shortcake. After some hesitation, Luigi sets his Poltergust 700000 to reverse and rockets away into the sky. Up, up, up through the dark clouds he flies...until finally, he bursts through to the top, where he discovers the mean person behind the situation. Who else but Huff N. Puff? After a fierce battle gets them nowhere fast, Luigi swoops down from above, switching the Poltergust's settings and sucking up Huff N. Puff. With no means of propulsion left, Luigi tumbles down through the clouds. Luckily, the strawberry shortcake breaks his fall. The dark clouds have left, and Luigi and Daisy enjoy the sunset without their cake. Oh well.
I err, attempted I guess is the best way to put it, to arrange this for drum corps!
However, the short time hurt me, and I had to cut corners to make it in time. Sadly, it shows pretty obviously in my entry, but nonetheless....
The piece is called "Marching Through Sky Garden" because I suck at titles.
Oh, and my appoligies for it being on the quiet side. I was having some weird clipping issues that time did not allow me to fix.
It looks as if ThaSauce is back online. (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC103) Hylian Lemon and Nutritious, please upload your entries to the server ASAP.
So yes, that means that the mixing stage is over. It's time to get to the voting stage. While we wait for Ben and Justin to send their finished works to ThaSauce, you will need to PM me your votes for the time being. Regardless, you will need to pick out three mixes and place them from first to third; ThaSauce requires a reasoning, so I won't be any different. Contestants don't need to place their own works in, as they will automatically get three points for themselves if they vote. The winner of PRC102 (TheoConfidor) gets their vote counted twice. You have until Tuesday, September 25th at 4:59AM EST to cast your vote.
I still don't know what to do for prizes for PRC104 (hopefully not bragging rights), though suggestions would be nice. If the 4th Anniversary event DOES go down as planned, then the winner of PRC103 will choose the source material for PRC105!
So yes, that means that the mixing stage is over. It's time to get to the voting stage.
According to ThaSauce, there's still at least half a day until the mixing deadline. Is that a misprint?
I only did it that way so that we would give Nutritious a chance to host his entry on the servers. Oddly enough, given his scandinavian origins I thought he would have hosted it by now.
Theo, I know that the shirts haven't come through. I have everything ready, but money was an issue for some time. The shirts will come, but it'll have to be after I get into employment and receive my first paycheck, which will at least be before the year is out.
Hey there everyone, Zephyr Here, sorry to barge in here around voting time but I was just wondering how often you have these PRC competitions, I fully admit that I'm much to lazy to look around any where to try to find out. I'd just like to know when the next one will be happening, I'd like to have a go at it. Thanks.
The new source will probably be announced this coming Friday. Each round lasts two weeks (submissions, voting, and allowing the winner a bit of time to choose the next source). Rexy could have something different planned for the next round, since it's the anniversary thing, but who knows. Besides Rexy. But that's how things usually go.
Also: A new contestant. :D
Speaking of web server, you haven't touched your subdomain for months. Do you still use it or shall I delete?
It's still being used for storage, at least until when VGMix3 comes out. At some point in the next month I will go back in there and clean it out, so trust me on that. Even now I'm currently in the progress of transferring all finished Dragon Quest project files to my computer, so I will have them ready to pass over to whomever would have the guts to take over the project.
But anyway, I uploaded Nutritious's entry myself. I can't believe how frustrating that was, but either way, ThaSauce voting is online!
Sorry guys, I don't normally get online on weekends, so I didn't realize it was back up. Thanks for taking care of it, Rexy. Also, the description is perfect. It's like in RPGs when you try to talk to someone that's sleeping, you get that reply (though unintentional, I'm sure :).
Oh, and Scandinavian? Err, you're talking about me right? I'm from the central US :)
D'oh, I swear someone in the PRC/ORC crowd was from North-Eastern Europe o_O() Now that I think of it, I think I got you mixed up with Cyan for some reason. Oh well...
Isn't Emperor/SleepyEmp from there? Or near there?
Well, a part of Russia IS in Eastern Europe, but I was looking more at the Scandinavian regions (Norway, Sweden, Finland etc). I don't know which region in Russia Sleepy Emp is from though.
You are hax0ring ThaSauce in order to view the votes early.
Give me your knowledge and I will not tell everyone in this topic that you are hax0ring.
Also. You reminded me how Tensei-San makes excuses for poor English grammar when he/she sounds better than the average American. This amuses me. We should make a trade to raise America's IQ.
Results tomorrow! Of course, Chickenwarlord won't experience the magical surprise because he is busy monitoring the votes as they come in.
How the Hell is he doing that? I thought ThaSauce has got the votes safely guarded O.o
OR, he's viewed the stats page to see how much participation has taken place for this competition :). Though, for some reason, I'm getting a 404 when trying to view competition stats now.
Whichever happens, we have a THREE WAY TIE and the voting will end in 40 minutes (ignore the ThaSauce timer, it seems to be operating on Pacific time for some reason). Who's going to get in and separate them?
Right, looks as if I had to break it. Oh well, at least we are now ready to advance to the end of it all - the RESULTS.
Total number of votes - 7
Total number of mixes - 4
Highest possible score - 21
Chickenwarlord gets yet another last place wooden spoon with 6 points.
Nutritous drifted his way to third place with 15 points.
Hylian Lemon only just flew ahead to second place with 16 points.
And the winner of PRC103 is DZComposer with 17 points!
Well done Adan on your first attmept at PRC and a first subsequent win. It's not every day we see march corps around here, and you managed to deliver for the sake of pulling through as the victor.
So, the next thing you need to do is to pick a source tune for PRC105 (yes, 104's anniversary edition is going as planned even though I'm not quite prepared for it yet). It can be anything, as long as the song isn't covered on OCR, whether it be a song from a game already covered (e.g. Starfox 64 Zoness) or one from a game not covered yet (e.g. Starfox Command - Krystal's theme). Site projects aren't counted, so tracks like the ending theme for Donkey Kong Country are still fair game.
Hurry up with the source tune - you only have until October 12th. ;)
And so, as we are about to leave another PRC season behind, the anniversary is starting to swing by. Check back tomorrow to see it in action.
