What did you think? Post your opinion of this ReMix.
Really creative. i like it. Has a great feel.
i think there is crowding in the midrange frequencies and as a result some of the sounds kind of blend toghether. and i'm not a fan of the drums that come in around 230. but other than that, its a very solid and interesting mix.

I didn't like this one that much for a few reasons. Firstly, I'm a big fan of "get to the point" mixes, and having to wait 1:40 to hear a recognizable melody didn't go well with me. It gets a bit repetitive afterwards too, in that the notes seem to be confined to a small range. On the positive side, the arpeggio in the background would sound nice if it weren't there for the almost the entire length of the song. I think that's what made me consider this repetitive. The samples also sound very nice. All in all, a decent mix, but not one I'm going to add to my collection.

This is great...it keeps making me think of that secondary melody in Anxious Hearts from Final Fantasy 7. This would go awesomely with that!
I was thinking about that bastardization thing. It's like this is all The Wingless's work and there's only a few notes present in the original melody. This is perhaps the only song I've ever thought that besides the Soul Blazer mix by Israfel. Maybe some new forte is turning around in my mind telling me that all good songs come with a good hearing of the original throughout, though I normally don't mind if this happens or not. Ah well - a new song is never bad, especially if it's like this.
I happen to like the last quarter with the alteration of the melody.

I recognized the song around the 1 minute mark. I think its a cool mix. I enjoy the soothing sound it has. It reminds me of DJ PRetzels SunkenSuite which I think is amazing and I think more piano versions of songs should be made because I usually listen to this stuff while I'm doing homework

I really have to agree with Metasquares on this one... It was just too different from the original song for me to enjoy it. It had nice potential, though, I really loved how natural it sounded.

really... i could pick up the song in this mix pretty easily. infact im gonna restart it now cause i like it so much =) ok i heard a hint @ :24... then again at :30. but enough of that...
i enjoyed this soooo much. im a huge fan of the_wingless and this does not disappoint! it just sounds so goooood, so smooooth =) the extra percussion line is nice. the slight syncopation on the main melody sounds so great. i love this interpretation. sure to be a keeper and much more.

Will The Wingless ever make his noncontroversial, universally-beloved piece?

I don't really know if I like this at all. It sounds plain and uninspired (also extremely predictable). This is one of those songs that when you hear it in the game, it just clicks that this can be remixed very easily. I very much prefer the original, the original melody just sounds better than this one. On a positive note, at least it aint a techno or trance mix.
I enjoy this. I'm not familiar with the original tune, but this quite an enjoyable piece to listen to. Relaxing and pleasant. Yay. Thumbs up.

sweeeett.... i never thought i'd have any songs from mario64 because the soundtrack wasn't much. but i currently have 4 remixes of this one song, and every one of them is great. This one is just awesome, its like a slightly less complicated version of his other two piano related mixes (aphrodite oceanus and Aesir), but, well, mario. Wingless rocks.

After reading "grey ninja"'s post above, I had to also make a contribution. Y'see I've been attending this forum for about a year now and never have I ever posted. This is the song that got me to do it. I feel the piece is one of the most eloquent, majestic, and beautiful remixes I've ever heard on the site. It's right up there with Terra in Black, IMO. I cannot begin to express the amount of gratitude I have for Wingless for writing this piece. If you have the smallest tidbit of an emotional soul in your body, you will download this piece. I am a pianist myself and listening to this brought tears to my eyes. (Then again, so did hearing Zelda orchestrated for the first time) Sit back, relax, and download this wonderful remix.

Wow. endblink likes a Mario tune?
Apperantly, yes. The only problem with The Wingless, it seems, is that he simply can't remix fast enough for my tastes. This guy is incredible.
A truly distinctive style with an amazing ear, I love what this guy does. Great piano work, excellent backbeats and those weird reverbed strings at the begining? Best part. Hands down.
I, for one, love the improving. I love the fact the the 'known tune' only comes in at the 1:30 mark. Makes for a longer, more enjoyable mix, with a nice surprise. Plus, improv and variation are good things.
Classic stuff, especially if you're a fan of The Wingless' stuff. Highly recommmended.

I am not one to demand that a remix sound like the original, and that is one of the reasons I love The Wingless' remixes so much: he allows himself to be open and creative with the piece, not just the instrumentation and tempo, but right down to rewriting the melody if that's how he wants it. The Wingless' "Teardrinker" is the first song I downloaded from here that I can say truly blew me away, and it was because he allowed his talent to show through in the remix. Now with "Peralsong" we have the same wonderful approach and it has once again led to another great remix (another underwater themed song as well. Coincidence?!)
With that said, this is a great remix without a doubt. It definitely brings something new and wonderful to a song we know and love. However, if you are into more 'exciting' remixes, then this wont' be your cup of tea. It's slow, delicate, and beautiful, just like the original. But, for those of us that can appreciate the sublte delicacies of a more pensive piece such as this, they don't get much better than this. Great job, the Wingless! (Now do some more Mega Man 2 for us! =)

I must say, this remix is quite unique for sounding quite serene for once! Instead of those ridiculous jungle remixes, this one sounds relaxing. I liked how the music doesn't stray too far from the original music, and this is a yet another great Mario 64 mix! Somewhat repetitive, but I don't mind because it has a GREAT piano instrumental throughout! Solid work!
My favorite OverClocked is, and likely will always be SunkenSuite by djpretzel, but this is definitely a nice variation on the song. While SunkenSuite is pretty straightforward, and something you'd expect to hear in the next gen Mario game, PearlSong is simply a remixer having fun, and it paying off. I love it when people don't feel they have to stick with the one idea of the song. I like when people play around a bit with the melody, and make it their own. The only complaint is that the drums broke the smoothness of the song, and became more of a distraction. I know drums in a slow piece like that can be pulled off though, as they were in SunkenSuite. The_Wingless is one of the best here at OverClocked, and in my ratings (I rate 'em all on my iTunes, and sort by composer), he's the overall best, with one 3-star, one 4-star, and three 5-star songs. I have no problem waiting for any of his masterpieces.

This song is so beautiful. Makes me want to play mario 64 once again just for that water stage. Does anyone know where i can hear the original other than digging out my 64 to save the trouble? Anyway Great mix I love it.

I don't know who David Lanz is, but I do know that the beginning and through the middle sounded like a Vince Guaraldi piece (the guy who rote all of the music for Chalie Brown and the Peanuts cartoons). Very nice and relaxing. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful. When I'm not listening to OCR's Dancing Madly First and Second Form, I've got this plugged in. Excellent for unwinding, contemplating, curlin' up with a good book, and, for me, studying.

Just beautiful, like others have said. Took a tune that was already inspiring and just made it something incredible. Strong contender for best mix on the site imho.
Slow, professional, and plain beautiful.

When I first downloaded this one, I didn't pay attention to the author. About halfway through the song, I thought to myself, "Wow.. this is beautiful. I have to see who made this and listen to his other stuff." Of course, I was a little disappointed when I found out it was a Wingless tune -- I was hoping there was another kick butt remixer out there that I hadn't discovered yet!
Anyway, this is a superb mix, and my favorite variation on the site, beating out McVaffe's & DJP's renditions, which is pretty impressive.
I give it a first class recommendation.

Wow, that's and amazeing song, so gentle and peiceful. I put it on repeat, and fell asleep to it's beauty. And then, i woke up to it, and felt like it was a brand new day, with all the cheer in the world. Wonderful. splendid.

Excellent remix, couldn't choose between pretzel's or this one even at gunpoint (throw McVaffe's in there too, but far different stylistically). Don't really understand the comments on lack of the original tune in here, sounded to me like nearly every note here was either straight off the OST or directly inspired by it...
Wow. Definitely one of my 3 fave OCRemixes. Everything is masterfully crafted, from the dynamic, flowing piano to the rolling timpani hits (which add a lot of emotion to the mix), and the soft yet powerful bassline. And I like the drums; they remind me of the original song's percussion and they add some 'beat' to the song while maintaining its soft, elegant mood.
To be honest, I didn't truly enjoy this song until I actually sat down and listened carefully. Then I noticed how everything flows together and how the piano lines are sort of blended and mixed around and what not. Now sometimes I'll listen to it four or five times in a row. It's that freaking good.
I have also tried to remix this song, but the result wasn't quite this good. In fact, it doesn't even come close. However, I have been inspired to do my damndest on improving it, and to work harder on all of my future projects. Thank you The Wingless, you're my hero.

The end section of the song is probably my favorite part...when it's just the solo piano playing the melody. It's also pretty cool how he mixed in the Underground theme.
I can't believe this song went over a year and a half without a review.
Still one of my favorites.

This is another one of my favorites songs on OCR. The original in the water stages of the game really set the atmosphere and remains one of my favorite (need to stop using that word) OSTs of any game.
I really like how he takes his time in building up the theme on this song. If you remember Dire, Dire Docks in the game, the song would only flesh out once you reached certain areas of the stage. I think The Wingless has done an excellent job of keeping that same slow-building feel. The piano is well integrated with the rest of song - it seems to just barely rise above the rest of the soundscape until about 2:13 when it takes a more dominant role in the song. Minimal drums also keep the same feel as the original. Great work.

This is also the only complaint I can make about The Wingless. Every one of his remixes I can honestly say I fall almost instantly in love with. I'm always happy when a Wingless song comes up on my playlist.
In particular with this remix, I very much enjoyed the slow but sure way this remix developed, starting out with a melody that slowly turns into the melody from Super Mario 64, and I very much love the piano work in this remix. Definitely a 10/10.

I don't think people have appreciated just what the Wingless accomplished here. He's given this song a brand new personality through a completely original and nuanced chord structure along with some excellent writing. He's infused it with a level of complexity and maturity of sound we rarely see in video game music and made it contemporary and relevant (after all, isn't that what this site, above all else, aims to do?). It's subtle yet dramatic, and very clever. This song has been mixed over and over, and nothing else I've seen posted or in the WIP forum has come close to its originality. One of my faves.

i completely agree, this has got to be one of the most complex piano arrangement mix i have ever heard. i've first heard this mix back in 2004 and i still listen to it till this very day. starting the mix with the water drop was brillant it gives you that sense of calm and peace. the slow build up into the main theme was phat stuff. nothing short of a masterpiece i have to say. highly recommended
on a sidenote when will we see your next mix????? =OOOO

Only 4 pages of reviews? Are you kidding me? This is a really beautiful, monumental piece that I think deserves better than that. No offense to the other two artists that have remixed the theme, but I feel that this conveys so much more emotion, personality, and sadness than the others do.
I really fell in love with this one from the first moment I heard it... great source, perfect interpretation... this one deserves more recognition than it's gotten.
Ahhh... classic Wingless, so calm, so mellow, so relaxing. I love this mix so much. Everything about this mix seems just a little ethereal, everything bathed in some hazy white light.
Listening to this makes me feel like I'm floating downstream, all my cares and woes washed out and floating off ahead of me, even though the atmosphere feels more attuned for a heavenly realm instead of one aquatic.
this one deserves more recognition than it's gotten.
Amen to that. This truly is a wonderful piece that more should know about.
A really nice take on a great source, this is calm and tranquil take on a calm and tranquil song. The structure really is expanded here, however, and though certain sections are pretty liberal, the feel and backing parts are pretty seamless, and there are plenty of great moments. I really like the kettle drum rolls, as they add just enough motion to keep the track from plodding, until the light-as-air percussion comes in. Really good stuff; I miss Wingless's mixes, but i'm glad that he got a lot of great mixes out.

If there was such a thing as an underwater lazy river, this would be the music. :D It's so peaceful.
I have been listening to game/midi music for years and my mom really doesn't like it. This remix actually brought about the for first time ever, my mom coming in and commenting on how beautiful the song was. (She had done it for other songs, but never game music)
She said that she recognized the source music, and didn't realize how good those songs were until she heard one redone with real sounding instruments. :D
So, props to Wingless. :D

The Wingless started off strong in 2003 with this track which shows definite maturation over his older (while still enjoyable) tracks. It has more control both in terms of arrangement and production, but it still holds that classic Wingless feel with its subtle dissonances. We have the pianos, bells, drum-kit, and, of course, we get our key modulation at 2:10. A must-have for any Wingless or "Dire, Dire Docks" fan.
