View Full Version : PRC104: It's "time" for the Fourth Anniversary! (CT)
The People's Remix Competition 104
PRCv4-26
Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) And this is it peeps, we are at the fourth anniversary! Man, I wonder what reelmojo would think if he saw this compo lasting so long.
So yes, having had an entire season under my belt, I can see that PRC faced so many changes in the past year, firstly with the compo preservations (since PRC84 anyway) and the transition to new competition forums, secondly with a transition to using an applet at ThaSauce created by analoq, and thirdly with seeing so many new and old faces plowing on at the compo and providing some polished efforts over the past 12 months.
And especially since we're looking at ThaSauce here, they will need an instant way of saying thanks for what they did to help give PRC a bit of a boost start back in May. And so, whoever wins PRC will get their mix an arbiter's pass to Remix: ThaSauce. It may not be much, but at least it's better than bragging rights :p
There were no specifics on source tune provider though; Sir Nuts told me on MSN to go for the most remixed game, and the people on IRC last night clarified which game it was. You saw it coming, lol.

Chrono Trigger - Robo Gang Johnny

Well, this is pretty amazing; in spite of it never getting released in PAL territories, it's the most popular game on OCR, so I find that an interesting accomplishment to begin with. And so, let's see if we can make good homage out of this one. Time to get the party poppers out...
GOOD LUCK!

Sounds great, I love this game, I'll see if I can get an entry in on time seeing as I'll be gone this weekend when I'd normally work on something. Haha, my first entry in on the anniversary, that's interesting (why is the anniversary 104 anyways?). I hope to be competing here. See ya around.

I dunno, I might enter. We do have two weekends for this round...so, who knows.
(why is the anniversary 104 anyways?)
There are 26 PRCs a year (52 weeks divided by the two week duration for each contest). This has been going on for four years now; 26 x 4 = 104. Et viola. ;)

That danged Earth and its annoying patterns of rotation.
I tried to come up with a good idea for an entry and ended up with the Simpsons theme stuck in my head and tiny bugs in my mouth. I was riding my bike. Yes, I had my mouth open. I do this sort of inaudible whistling/beatboxing when I'm trying to come up with ideas. I'm retarded.
Edit: I started my entry because I'm weak.

Amazing how many people come running when Chrono Trigger is mentioned.
Well, it'll make for a great round, eh? Besides the fact that we already know who's going to win, of course. ;)
I guess another judge could always surprise us with an entry.

Dang! Even though I like CT, This is a source tune I don't like very much...
We'll have to see if creativity magically appears in my brain..

Hmm, I am highly interested in making a song for this and since I have two weeks I'm sure I can whip up something unique. :)

October 9, hmm?
I'm calling mine something along the lines of "Green memories of battle with magus", if that gives you any idea of the content. Maybe I'll add "in schala's palace" to the end later.

This is gay. Why did you all have to pick a Chrono tune for mixing exactly when I have no time to partake? Weak...
Just kidding! But not really...
Anyways, will be looking forward to the entries! Good luck guys!

Am I right in thinking that the deadline is about 10am GMT tomorrow? Cheers.
EDIT: "Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by THE TUESDAY AFTER THE NEXT - October 9th at 4:59 am Eastern US Time."
Am I going crazy or is it the 9th October tomorrow? I'm gonna upload my entry now then... although not a single entry has been uploaded so far - cutting it a bit fine isn't it? I'm pretty confused to say the least lol. Surely I can't be the only one to have a finished entry ready for submission. :/
EDIT2: Y'know what, I'm just gonna assume the deadline is a week Tuesday and that the date is wrong.
Bligh that was stressful lol.

I'll work on my song tonight and submit it too. It'll be my most unique arrangement ever. :D

People tend to submit stuff pretty close to the deadline. Don't count on the date being wrong; we've already had longer than usual to remix this.

EDIT: I got to upload my song just fine. I had to name the file as "(artist)_-_(song title).mp3"... something of which I couldn't find but somehow came across as I looked at the filename of my song and noticed that my actual file didn't have that filename, so I changed it. Now it works like a charm. ^_^

So, I felt like finishing up my entry and submitting it. Now we have three entries! :)
Alex, Ben is right. We have already had about 11 days to remix this. You're not going paranoid, the competition could actually end in half an hour, though do I expect to have to wait for you as well?
Alex Smith
10-09-2007, 01:20 PM
I'm really sorry to have held you up Rexy. I've now submitted my entry.
Thanks for waiting for me. :)
I think one of the things that made doubt the deadline was today was ThatSauce. I'm sure it said I had hours/days left for the compo on there, but oh well.
I'm looking forward to hearing the other entries!
ThaSauce is generally okay, though if anything it operates at Pacific time (8 hours behind us). We appreciate your prompt chipping of your entry, so expect the polls to open in 40 minutes from now.
Also, I still need a PRC105 source tune from DZComposer, though I'm sure that'll come in due time O_o
Okay, so I was a little side-tracked. It turns out that my brother passed his driving test today, so it seems as if a last-minute meal out was in order. O.o Anyway...
So yes, that means that the mixing stage is over. It's time to get to the voting stage. Visit the Competition Link at ThaSauce (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC104) and fill out the form on the bottom of the page - pick out three mixes and place them from first to third, with a reasoning on your choice. Contestants don't need to place their own works in, as they will automatically get three points for themselves if they vote. You have until Friday, October 12th at 3:30PM EST to cast your vote. The winner gets the promise of a free arbiter's pass to Remix: ThaSauce!

It means that it'll be posted as a featured song on R:TS automatically, not just in the PRC archives.

www.soundtempest.net/robogang.mp3
What kind of organ did you use? I like it a lot more than the B3 I used in this ~40 second WIP (http://www.box.net/shared/gnflyikn1g) I was hoping to finish before the deadline. I didn't spend so much time on drum programming - I thought the drums were sounding kind of nice at the start of the piece, but after that I just looped them.
Okay, NOW we can cease the competition. Are you all ready for the results and so forth?
Total number of mixes - 4
Total number of votes - 6
Highest possible score - 18
Nario received an unanimous last place decision with 5 points.
Chickenwarlord upgraded from wooden to metal spoon for third place with 10 points.
TheoConfidor got his just desserts for criticising R:TS (just kidding) and achived second place with 12 points.
And the winner by another unanimous decision is Alex Smith with 18 points!
Nice job, Alex; I'm assuming this is your first PRC win, and a really well timed one at that. As soon as Garian and co hear about the result, they will promptly place it to the R:TS track listings. As I said it may not be much, but I hope it will be of a big aid to you.
The delayed start for the voting means that PRC105 will be delayed as well by 24 hours, but not to worry. When it does come around, I am really sure that everyone will be appreciative of the trials of PRC's fifth season, wherever they could go.

Nope, I clearly stated 3:30PM EST. Oddly enough, ThaSauce's PST time system is going to take some while to get used to >.>

And I'm pretty sure my piece was a little low-quality for such a competition but I wanted to try something unique. :P

I had to read through this page a few times... at first I was truly speechless. :O
I haven't seen the voters' comments yet, but I'd just like to say thank you so much to all the talented competitors and all the voters.
I'd also like to say a quick thanks to Rexy for putting so much time and energy into every single PRC. And also to ThaSauce for awarding this fantastic prize - I'm honoured.
EDIT: Read the comment - unanimous first place votes? Wow, thanks very much. Sorry if my trombone playing sounded a bit out of tune. Basically I've been trying to work on intonation at college and my teacher has been saying I'm playing too sharp on certain notes. Trouble is, I over-compensated on this recording and may have ended up too flat in places. :D So after being taught there's 7 positions on the trombone... well that's not really true at all lol.

Congratulations everyone!
TheoConfidor got his just desserts for criticising R:TS (just kidding) and achived second place with 12 points.
That was definitely not the way I meant it. I was actually dissing my own piece, since I don't consider it a serious remix. It's not horrible, but I would hate to have my first posting on R:TS be such a low-production quality, light-arrangement piece.
It was just meant to be fun. :)

Oops. I missed voting for this one by A WEEK. I guess I should have been following it better. I've never missed voting before, at least not since the first year of PRC.
