So what's this, a Kirby's Superstar remake? Or is it actually a new game?

Kiyosuki
10-11-2007, 02:56 AM
No one's sure yet but I do hope its a port with extras. Super Star -is- Kirby. Everything else in that series before and after was just a sideorder.

Really, the series has never been able to top SuperStar in my opinion.

Its appearing to be an enhanced remake of Super Star as shown by these pics:

Superstar is absolutely amazing. I agree that is pretty much is the pinnacle of the Kirby series. I used to play two player all the time with my friends, do the boss rush mode (coliseum? arena? can't remember) etc. So good.

How does one even remotely involved in video games not own a DS?

The Amazing Mirror did a pretty good job of following up on Superstar's gameplay -- there were many abilities with more than one move per power.

Squeak Squad was also a solid game...but I do agree that Superstar is the pinnacle. Here's to a remake!

The Damned
10-11-2007, 05:35 PM
According to Jeux France, it is indeed a remake, not a sequel. Shame... they could have made a sequel and given up more instead of touched-up old.

Well, it's still a good game, so...

SuperStar had more than one move for its powers. There were dashing moves and jump moves at a minumum for each ability. Some powers had up to eight attacks, like wrestling and ninja. Or am I on the wrong page here?

Superstar definitely had the best movesets -- I was just pointing out that it's not the only Kirby game to do so. Squeak Squad had 2 moves per power, which is a step in the right direction. With that said, SS is still the best of the series...one of those games I'm glad to say I played on an actual SNES back in the day.

Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe. This is actually a remake of the 1996 Super Famicom title, the site reports, with new stages and three new mini games. The game doesn't even use the stylus for its controls. Based on comments from the development staff, it seems like you'll earn new mini games as you clear previous ones.

from IGN's hands on with games at the conference.

I might be with Dhsu on this one - DL3 was just way too awesome. Now all that aside, this does still look great. I'd almost consider it if the L-button on my DS wasn't blown...I really should call Nintendo's repair line thing because I don't feel like trying to open it myself. But pretty much that limits me to just Phantom Hourglass out of all these new games.... :?

No, I'm not serious. Sorry for being a tease, but it's my back-up, and I may be giving it to someone else later. Besides, the Lite is better in every way. Longer battery life, better color, better screens, better light, better buttons, better everything. The only problem is when you have a GBA cart in it. It sticks out. If you don't play GBA games, then it's not a problem.

Maybe if you had a wishlist for christmas, and there was a way for people here to throw a few bucks in, like on amazon or something... then maybe you could get one.

But, as has already been established, Superstar was the best.

This thread makes me happy, because I always thought I was one of the few people who appreciated Superstar's greatness!
Talk about awesome game play, especially the co-op! Using the boomerang/sword thing was too awesome with your 3 hit combo and uppercut move (that made it's way into smash bros). Some of the level design was pretty deep as well, remember that treasure hunt level (there was always 1 I couldn't find) and of course the epic meta-knight scenario!!!
I played this game for hours, several times through with my brother. Big win for this thread.

Kirby Superstar is my favorite videogame. Ever.

A handheld remake worries me. Particularly the downscaling from the 512 x 448 pixel SNES game to the 256 x 192 pixel DS screen. On the other hand, the AWESOME cutscenes look very promising. I will definitely purchase the game regardless. Maybe it's best I keep my stardards from skyrocketing.

I liked Dreamland 3 more than KSS for a while... but then DL3 lost replay value with age (despite its wonderful aesthetic). KSS gets better with every playthough.

Kirby's Dreamcourse is really hard and fun and awesome I love it.

I have the original Hoshi no Kaabi courtesy of Japan.

Dreamland 2 is the only game to cause me to feel genuinely depressed. I can't play those cloud levels anymore. (good game overall)

Kirby's Blockball needs more love. That game had good music. (http://kirby.classicgaming.gamespy.com/multimedia/sounds/)

Oh, man am I glad to hear this!
Kirby Super Star was easily one of my top 3 for SNES.
What I loved about it is why I think it did so much better than all the other Kirby's out their.
Multiple moves for one ability.
I loved how I could pull off 5 different moves with EACH ability (except for wheel, that had like 4).
But yea, I will throw money at this, THROW I SAY!!!

Thread Revival ftw...

I am so freakin' psyched about this game it's not even funny. This is probably my favorite game of all time, next to Super Mario RPG, and I still play it all the time.

The one thing I am looking forward to is the soundtrack being redone. The Revenge of Meta Knight Ending theme is my favorite song of all time.

I hope it gets remixed by someone here.. :<

I don't have one either. Too expensive. I'd rather keep to my Gameboy Color or GBA, honestly, and I actually never even play them anymore. There's not much I'd want for the DS either - maybe Contra 4 or the Phoenix Wrigth games. I have thought about getting one though, maybe when I finish all these other games I've been playing.

Everything I've read says that the only new things are better graphics and anime cutscenes. Not worth the year long wait, if you ask me.

extra modes:
-Helper to Hero: Arena mode where you play as a helper
-Revenge of the king: True remake of Dreamland 1.
-Meta Knightmare Ultra: Play as metaknight through the normal game (spring breeze, dynablade, great cave offensive, milkyway wishes)
-True Arena: Fight bosses from Revenge of the King as well as a few extra bosses

edit: and NO. they are not ANIME cutscenes. They are 3d cutscenes that are beautiful.

The most magical moment of Kirby Super Star was easily Milky Way Wishes (I'm sure you all agree :) It had the best tracks on it and had the most memorable moments. The music for the The End animation was really awesome too. Also liked the Flying into Nova theme and the Marx Battle theme.

I notice slight alterations in the music on the DS version, probarbly because of the DS sound chip being some what different from the SNES sound chip.

Kirby Ultra Super Deluxe announced!!!This could be an interesting remake. I'll keep an eye on the reviews. :-)

Just finished it 100%, with all 60 treasures in GCO. Great remake, with enough subtle changes to keep things fun. The extra modes are a lot of fun as well.

Don't bother. So far, they're selling the game short. (Except 1up.com gave it an A-)

had no idea the game was out already, I will definitely be trading in my copy of Squeak Squad(which was quite disappointing) and picking it up ASAP.

It's a remake. Remakes always score bad. You can't appreciate a remake, really, unless you experienced the original game when it came out. Plus some magazines are just plain cynical anyway (i.e. Electronic Gaming Monthly)

Woah, a post where Atmuh and I agree! That's a rare sight!

Goes to show just how good of a game KSS really is...

I just meant some games don't stand the test of time really well is all. I personally don't think KSS is one of those games, but then again I played the original game when it came out (I was 8 years old maybe?) so maybe my opinion wouldn't matter on something right that.

KSS still holds the test of time well. It's a fun game to play no matter how long it's been since it came out. Anyway I love this game. Music and sounds are a bit off cause of the DS but enjoyable. Only weird things are small cosmetic changes they did. Like for example Wham Bam Rock's sprite is completely different (guess to get rid of the black face-like form he had before). And wtf happened to Capsule J?! ; ; Capsule J2 is no where near as cool...

On Tuesday I worked 6am-1pm and I made sure not to leave work until I got my hands on a copy. I kept going to the warehouse and asking the guys who do the receiving if they got it yet.

I finally asked if I could go through the boxes that they did receive and the first box I opened had like 40 copies.

I almost teared up. lol

I happily skipped home after that. j/k (Or am I?) :<
