Wow...just lots. Lots of good in here. Great work.

Damn...the piano alone is enough to make this song worth hearing. The smooth jazz part is just so nice :)
Alot of different styles, moods for this, all which transition and work nicely with the song. Despite it's low bitrate, it has high-quality sound.
Great instrument work, great everything! Definitely a favorite.

Ugh, we went through some pains to get the clipping out and the encoding decent. I liked this remix from the first time I heard it. Maybe cause I like jazz, or maybe I just like great playing/arrangement skill.
Anyway, I hope no one minds this:
I'm hosting the longer 9 minute version of this song for a SHORT while for anyone who craves high quality encodes:
EDIT: Whoops, forgot to remove the link... like.. 2 months ago.
winamp 2.81 or greater. Ogg vorbis doesnt work on media player without some hacks, sorry.

For some reason I thought the DL's were cropped at 5 megs.
Anyway I like this :)

Lovely! I just wish it kept that soft mood throughout the whole song. After 4 minutes it ceases to be perfectly adorable for me... that's because I prefer groovy laid back jazzy stuff before progressive.

This is VERY nice. It has a tone to it I love. Nice.
As for the longer version, what format is it running under because none of my players can play it.

Now, I'm normally not a big fan of jazz, but I absolutely love this mix. I truly am very impressed with Vigilante's work here.
Ogg format runs just fine under winamp 3.0.

OC Remix hasn't really held my interest in a long time. I remember the days I heard Mega Man 3's "Needles" and "Aphrodite Oceanus" from Secret of Mana.
I haven't mouthed "Oh shit" in a while, is what I'm saying.

Some pretty excellent stuff here. The arrangement is excellent. THe sound is great. Definitely a good mix and a keeper.

I definetly definetly like the pipe/flute (sorry for my lack of technical knowledge) introduction. Sets up the song very well, and as you bring in the light cymbal, it's the perfect seque into the melody. That transition at the 4 mintue mark, although a strange jump when listened to objectively, makes sense considering the original song. Plus, the guitar work it goes through, awesome.
<-- keepin' it.

Wow, I just love the sound of this, and I wish I had the technical know-how to break it down. Only thing I can say is, what should I expect from a fellow Hendrix fan? ;)
Also:
Ogg format runs just fine under winamp 3.0.
First off, Winamp 3 sucks. Second off (wtf), Winamp 2.8, or 2.9 if you have the beta, plays OGGs just fine.
Thanks for the feedback, and a special thanks to protricity for helping me fix some recording and encoding problems. He has been a big help getting this 7 minute song to 6 megs without it sounding like ass. thanks protricity.
As for the song, when i submitted it, it was 9 minutes long. it was divided into 3 movements and an intro. there was no way i could get it down to 6 megs without the bitrate sinking....really bad. it was a hard thing to do, but i ripped out a minute and a half of the song, so whats left are the second and third movements and a slightly different intro. the version Prot is hosting has the elusive first movement. (its also 9:04 long). djp said that he would veto the song as it was even tho the judges voted yes because the bitrate was too low. i think the second and third movements are far superior to the first anyway, but i encourage you to check out the original version
-Jesse
NOTE: did anyone notice the metroid/scream noise? i created that sound by plucking my guitar strings above the nut close to the machineheads and throwing the whammy bar on. i them reversed the recording and had myself a nice screaming metroid noise.
EDIT: I will respond to individual comments here, because i dont want to make a new post
Mustin: i'm not sure what artistic liberties you speak of during the 'kraid' section. in the lower brinstar obviously i realize that the solos were over a jam section that i pretty much wrote my self (if you could say that, only 2 chords) that was *very* loosely based on the original chords. other than that, the only real liberties i took in kraid were in the melody structure, i.e. how many times a line repeats, and the string voicing of the chords, "comping" if you will. i did change one chord in the third section of the kraid melody that was very very minor sounding, (i cant remember if it was a half diminished, but i wouldnt be suprised.) into a major chord, but i think that the half diminished would not have fit in with the feel of the song. (AmIEviL made a similar chord alteration in "MindoftheMotherBrain) thanks for your comments, Mustin, russell and everyone else.
And to those who complained about the percussion: DEAL WITH IT.
EDIT 2: in response to the judge decisions, Analoq: at 1:39, (assuming you're listening to the 7 minute posted version, not the 9 minute original) that particular passage is all synth, so there are no off-key notes.
Malcos: thanks for your support, but i was taken aback by your suggestion of "cutting down the drawn out ending." to make the song shorter. personally, that drawn out ending is my favorite part of the song. i think i definately made the right decision taking out the first movement and leaving the ending intact.

Whoa. That was freaking cool. :)
Oh, and yes I did hear the screaming noises. It sounded more like whales than metroids, though, no offense. But oh well, that doesn't matter because the song is amazing. ;)
I'm burning this badboy onto my CD with all my favs! :D

04-09-2003, 09:13 PM
Definitely has it's moments.
Some of the percussion was questionable.
The piano and guitar are great.
Everything else is pretty good.
Some of the "artistic liberties" with the chords and notes strike me as odd. I would have just done what was originally written. That really comes out the "worst" for me during "Kraid." Why did you change the notes/chords?
Cool metroid effect.
Beautiful ending.

*Comments are on the full version -- thanks prot*
I like the little grind in the end of the beginning -- adds a lot of character. It has a nice laid-back feel, until we go into the 'action' (last) sequence. Most of it's excellent, with the exception of some chords I didn't agree with in the middle section. The intro and middle sections sound more interesting than the ending section, though that may just be me.
I'm with Mustin; some of those chords don't really sound wrong, just not right. They're not so far gone as to say they're horribly dissonant and wrong, but just feel like they don't belong, even though they do work (to some extent). It may be because I'm not big on jazz, but they still strike a bad note with me.
Overall, from this little bit, I would have rather had *you* do the score for Metroid Prime, as the entire game had music nowhere near the level of Super Metroid (aside from the title screen music). I think you would have done it more justice than what was ingame.

This is amazingly cool stuff from Vigilante, although I don't really like the first section as much (in the full version) - the recorder synths were the only thing I really liked, and the rest of the strings, etc. felt rather muddy. Pretty top notch arranging, though. It's all pretty smooth and relaxing while still having lots of atmosphere and mood. The jazz section starting at about 3:50 is even better, with great piano playing and and even cooler jazz guitar. The percussion feels a little strange to me, though - but I never liked that quiet "crack" sound that's in a lot of softer jazz. It starts to pick up momentum at about 5:39 again, and it this point the percussion feels a little more unusual, plus it seems just to be more something to put in between the past jazz and the Kraid theme.
The Kraid theme is good, yes, but I felt like I was listening to The Wingless' Teardrinker all over again. Of course, the chords actually match with this mix, but, like Mustin and Russell Cox, I feel like changing the chords really modified the mood of the original in an awkward way. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but it didn't feel quite right...
This is an extremely awesome mix, though. If this is any indication of what your future mixes will sound like, Vigilante, you'll probably be one of my favorite OCRemixers. Keep up the good work!

Uhh, those whale things, I assume they're metroids, but sometimes that noise will get really loud and like, hurt my ears. Other than that, this is the best Metroid remix that I've ever heard.
It tops my stuff! I mean the best metroid remixes I have to offer are my medleys (shameless plug, check out "Hidden From the World" and "Metroid Medley" on my website) which are nowhere near this kind of quality, even though I did work on both of them for a few weeks. It's weird, I think both our remixes share some qualities, for example, destroying people's subwoofers and playing the metroid theme for the intro :) Once again, I gotta say this is my favorite Metroid remix, along with HomesickAlien's Metroid Title Remix (it was on VGmix)
A must download for the metroid lovers.

So very, very sweet. This is how a really complete ReMix sounds. Vigilante obviously spent a ton of time on this one. The guitar tones are awesome - I especially liked the humbuck'd guitar at the end.
Sound quality is a bit "papery", as DJP pointed out, but that's the price you pay for such a wonderful (and wonderfully long) tune.
<- gets down on his knees to beg for a high quality (maybe even WAV 8O ) to get posted on someone's FTP soon. :D
Oops, posted before reading Prot's post.

Well, anyway. This mix kicks massive amounts of arse! I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's great. Just, great. Oh, and I personally thought the chords at the jam section were a nice little touch. Just so you don't think everyone thought it was off.

The chords that people are complaining about works. This is what you call a remix. This is more of a movie soundtrack remix just in my opinion. Vigilante gives the kraid theme new life and makes it his own. If not for anything, this is the BEST part of the whole remix because of the way Vigilante flipped the script there.
I was going to say my only complaint was the audio quality of the files, but im going to get that 74 min .wav and thats that.

I wasn't prepared to hear this mix. I really wasn't expecting a variety of instruments nor was I ready for the quick jump to the guitar-laced tribute to a classic track from the original game. The beautiful fade... One word to sum of it up....Damn...!

I very much like this, I thought it was great - from the somewhat Celtic-feel intro (anyone else get that impression?) to the natural seeming slides into different feels... It seems simple, but it isn't, it's very difficult to make something of this scope work, and yet work it does, beautifully. Great job.
I don't have Kazaa, but where is that wav? Must... Get... High-quality version...

Late into minute four and early into the fifth minute... my favorite part... its just so... wow... gives you that errie/beautiful feeling the Metroid soundtracks are trying to convay, very VERY good stuff.
to those sharing on kazaa, please change the filename: add my name, Jesse Taub to the end of the filename so i maintain credit and it doesnt end up as one of those "minibosses/jimi hendrix/blink182 does metroid" tracks floating around kazaa. thanks.

This is an awesome remix. I'd liked to have seen more song themes subtley blended in with it, but you still chose some of the best (and quite possibly most eerie) themes of the series, and made an excellent jazz/fusion/etc. arrangement of it. The Kraid chord changes were strange in comparison to the pretty much strict chording of the rest of the song to the originals. But you know what, I liked it, and it worked well. I wish that remixers would take more liberties with the music (much like I have seen from AE, the wingless, and select others). In this case, I'm glad you put that in there Vigilante. This is what ReMixing is all about, and that is what I look the most forward to in new mixes to come.
Anyways, excellent job Vigilante, you're now an OCReMix legend.

SUPER! I feel stupid for just posting about the other arrangement not having the bridge before listening to yours. It's absolutely wonderful. I won't say anymore.
I never bother to review the remixes, but I gotta say, this one kicks some huge ass. Seems very layered and polished to me, lots of variation so it never gets tedious.. it just flows on and on like a river of audio candy. :D
And FWIW, I like the first part in the full version.. kinda spooky and menacing. Shame it had to be cut for the site, but either way, this is definitely one of my favorite remixes here.

I agree on the first version, if you've made it to this thread, I encourage anyone to check out that OGG file (you can convert it to mp3 using dbpoweramp, the program is free) while it's still up. It's well worth your time to hear the original cut. Of course the version that made it on here is still excellent, but I think the first has more breathing space, and given the subtle ambient nature of the Metroid stuff, it's better for it.
This is also the first remix I've commented on. It isn't that I haven't really liked others, but a 9 minute super thing like this doesn't come along often...

no! don't ever cross encode or advocate it unless it's absolutely necessary (such as cross-encoding for use on an iPod) ... you get all the artifacts of the ogg plus artifacts introduced by mp3 compression. Play the ogg, you can do it!
 Winamp - Versions 2.80 and higher (3 included) play Ogg Vorbis files providing you download (http://classic.winamp.com/download) the Standard or Full installer. The Lite versions of Winamp do not include the Ogg plug-in.
 Windows Media Player - There is a DirectShow filter that will enable you to play Ogg Vorbis files with Windows Media Player HERE (http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm).
 Quicktime - A working QuickTime component for Ogg Vorbis is available HERE (http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/). Works on PCs and on Macs.

Oops. I didn't know about that. But it's too late, I already converted it... I can't notice any problems with the product, though. The main reason I suggested converting was, I don't know how many others do this, but I already have one Overclocked mp3 CD, and am 300 megs into a second one now. I don't believe any mp3/CD players (or mp3 players, for that matter) support this OGG format, but I don't really know. I just know this forum thread was the first I had heard of it.

This is a great remix, i love the open with the teleport sound remixed, that was awesome, then it goes everywhere throughout the whole thing, only one or two themes i've heard done before in other remixes but sounds much cooler in this version, then it goes into some classic metroid at the end. killer, i'll be listening to this one for a while, it'll be on the next CD of remixes i do. I have one question though, my real one says it is a 12 min track but it only plays about 7 mins. how do i change that or where can i get a version that doesn't do that (without downloading a 74mb file that won't fit on my machine anyway)? great remix, keep up the good work

Well, I know how some people feel about conversions, but I'd recommend DLing the wav and converting it to a high quality mp3 file yourself, then deleting the original wav. Or downloading it and burning the wav directly to an audio CD, which would be even better, if you were making such a remix CD. That clears the problem up, and plus you get a better sounding mix of the track.
I can understand not wanting to download it, but unless you literally don't have 74 open megs, it's your best bet.
I like it, but you have to admit it's a strange sound for a Metroid track to have. It took me a couple of plays to get used to it.
I don't know, maybe it's just me but I loved it from the start. Especially the scream effect, that perfectly brought in the classic kind of spooky ambience that Metroid has.
By the time the jazz section and other parts came in, I was too into it to think it may have seemed strange.

fantastic. i really enjoyed it.
perhaps after i've gotten to know it more i'll come back and post some more detailed comments... there were a few short bits that sounded a little strange, but it was the sort of thing that could have just been the song not liking the low bitrate. musically, nothing sounded strange to me at all (i'll grant i don't know the super metroid music very intimately though), and the ending was beautiful.
though i was a little saddened when i discovered it was the ending, cuz according to winamp there were still 3 minutes left. but i got over it, because the ending works very well as an ending. :)
great work!

*This is my first review on OC*
I'll be the first to admit I'm very easy to please, but very hard to impress. I enjoy virtually all the songs on this site, but there are a select few I truly treasure. This would be one of those few. I could comment on every little thing that impresses the hell out of me in this mix, but sadly, I wouldn't know where to begin. All I know is that Vigilante has instantly made his way into my musical heart with this mix. I think Zebesian Midnight will easily cement Vigilante as a top tier mixer on OC, if for no other reason than the simple fact that he took a chance.

Wow. 8O
This is certainly deserving of all the positive comments it has gotten. Excellent guitar playing by Vig, really excellent. The soundscape is littered with instruments of synth and acoustic. Perfect instrument selection. I particularly like the bass and strings in this mix. The jazz sections are pulled off very well. This is very authentic stuff. There's really nothing to complain about here either. Overall, extremely high quality work Vig. I look forward to your next mix.

This is not my sort of music at all.
Why do I like this remix, then? I don't recognize half the themes in this mix, but for some reason every musical style used in this piece seem perfectly suited for Metroid. After four pages of glowing reviews, there's not much more I can say. I suppose it's the balance of 'wierd trancy' with 'smooth jazzy' that makes it so appealing.
How much of this did Vigilante play on live instruments?
Thanks Wingless and Vinren and everybody else.
Dicaeopolis wanted to know how much was live. i guess i'll take the time to go into the mix a little bit.
All the guitars, and the scream noises were live. most of the other sounds are courtesy of roland's fine line of synthesizers.
as soon as i figured out how to play Kraid on my guitar maybe a year ago, i knew i wanted to perform it. i started mixing during the summer of 2002 after buying some cheap recording equiptment, and i decided i would at some point have to do a metroid medly. (Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time.) but i wanted to do it right. i really didnt get the hang of mixing until september or october. I spent all summer on my first mix, Zero's Sacrifice, and i finished my second, liquid metal, in about a week and a half.
maybe november i decided to start working on this little marathon of mine. i decided on lower brinstar and kraid, but i couldnt figure out a good intro. so i figured it might work to throw in the Super Metroid load theme into the beginning, but even that sounded too abrupt. and from that came the sandstorm intro, which evolved into the "lost 2 minutes," the first movement, which consisted of the super metroid intro/story theme.
I'm happy with this mix. i think its my best work so far. i can think of some things that i would like to change, and maybe sometime i will. dont mean to talk about my mix like this, but as for what went right, i'll say that my favorite part of the mix is DEFINATELY, without question, the ending. The last minute is my favorite, especially after 6:43, when everything fades but the piano and guitar.
anyway, i'm very glad that people liked this mix, and i'm flattered by the praise, and i apreciate the constructive criticism. I do have 2 projects in progress, and i have several others planned.
thanks for the comments, and feel free to add any thoughts, impressions, criticisms; whatever you have to add. all reactions are useful for my future works. let me know what i'm doing right, and what i'm doing wrong.

This is awsome, the best, THE VERY BEST! It is so freackin kick-awsome-ass! So, best song on here, my opinion. Im still listening to it btw
Also, i knwo this wasnt an actual review, but i cant concentrate with the song playing.

I don't care who you are or what kind of music you like, Zebesian Midnight is a must-have in any collection.
The ambient sounds near the beginning of the peice are pure gold. And it feeds into some excellent synth and acoustic work. I can almost visualize Samus, in her shiny armor, staring up at a Zebesian moon, letting the fear of metroids, keyhunters, and phantoons slip from her mind for the first time since she can remember...
Oops, I started writing a story.
Actually, what snapped me away from the image I was describing was the jazzy piano and guitar solos. They don't exactly hold to the image, but still suit the mood of the piece nicely.
After those, however, comes a high-tempo segment that almost seems like it comes from a different piece altogether. Up to now, it's been perfect, calm mood music. Now it's mood music that reflects motion. An interesting transition. Very smooth and interesting.
As you can no doubt see from my writing style, I was pretty immersed in this piece. In fact, immersive is the only word I can think of to aptly describe it. There is no way I could recommend any improvements. Well done, Vigilante. Well done.

Wow... Its stuff like this that shows me that the RIAA is completely made of crap. If Vigilante can do this from Super Metroid(While good yes, its not instrumental), it shows you don't need to be a stoned idiot with a contract to make brain-meltingly good music. Kee-rist, stop reading this and download it already!

Can't.....stop....dancing!
I feel like I'm gonna melt onto the floor when I listen to this.
Wow.....I can't even type straight.....I can't believe I've missed this song up until now! IIRC, something in the intro made me stop listening to it when it first got posted. I finally learned of how cool it was when I heard my roommate playing it instead of the background Zerg music for Starcraft.
Mmmm....I've been up all night listening to remixes, but I've got to go to sleep after this one, it's made me too mellow!

So when's the single coming out, and where can I buy it? ;)
Listening to this, I wasn't entirely certain that I wasn't listening to three or four entirely different songs on some crossfader. But no, it all has that underlying style of smooth flow behind rippling strength.
I love the ending, very mysterious, and the various rearrangements of the original Metroid theme. The intro sounds like something you'd find on the orchestral game concert album; reminds me of the OGC4 song. In fact, the entire song sounds like it could have come from one. Certainly long enough, and with its own distinct 'movements'.
But the jazzy piano/bass is my favorite part by far. You say this is synthed? I haven't heard synth that good in... well, in a very long time indeed. I swear, until I saw what you wrote, I was sure it was played by hand, and I'm a pianist and connioussier of such music. Excellent work, I'll be listening for more for certain. ^_^

Same here, is it an epidemic
I would like to again give a big thanks to a fantastic mixer, a "shttyjudgefgt", and my good friend Ari Asulin for not only hosting, but encoding this mix and its 9 minute ogg counterpart. encoding a variable bitrate mp3 isnt easy, as you dont know how big it will end up, and we were kind of working under a strict 6 meg limit with a 7 minute song, so everybody give Prot a hand.

This song is a little long, but it's jazzyness around the middle of the tune, along with vigilante's other tricks up his sleeve will keep this one in your playlist. OORGLE! This song is friggin awesome to study/ do homework to, IMHO. Really really good!!! CHURN OUT MORE, BIZZATCH! :D

An absolutely beautiful piece of music. IMHO, trance / techno remixes of Metroid are done a little too much, so it's nice to get a break from that. And what a break it is!
One of the best aspects of the song is the way the different bits of the song all flow together. From the 2:10 jazzy piano segment (despite its brevity, one of my favorite pieces of the song) to the more intense aspects of the song around 3:57. All flavors mix just right as the final piece is a beauty.
On a bit of a side note, the song reminds me a lot of Stairway to Heaven. The way it starts off calm and collected, slowly building to a harder middle then slowly tappers off into quiet, leaving you in a sort of content lonileness by the end. Any Zeppelin inspirations, Vigilante?

Oh Man!!! I love it to death. over and over it plays in my head. I'm humming the tune and my co-worker is like, "isn't that metriod? you been playin' it or somethin'." I had to hype up your mix man. its jazzy, its ambient, its all that and maple syrup. thats how sweet it is. Of course I just recently put together the metriod remix CD for my self and this is the last track on it. This is because its the longest track, i had to put an intro first, and of course you save the best for last, meaning i have to listen to everything else to get to this unless i just sit there skipping tracks. yep, its that good. man if you haven't heard this, or say you don't like it, somethign is wrong.

Fucking A, man! Vigilante sure got his stuff down with this song alright. The way he manages to blend the different music form the regions is perfect and the instuments are gotten down pact to the point that it draws the listener into a beautiful yet adrenaline-packed state of mind! All I can say in the end is "PLease sir, may I have some more"?!

I have to say two thumbs up to Vigilante on this remix. I have heard alot of them but this one definately showed alot of time was put into it. Out of all the Super metroid remix's, I think this one is my favorite. :) . It absolutely ROCKS!

This song also holds a very personal spot in my heart (Yes... it does exist) as it was released after a very big breakup in my life. I got the song not long after it all happened, and it was on every CD I burned thereafter. For a time, it was pretty much all I was able to listen to.
Slow, yet engaging; calm and serene, yet it sends you on a roller coaster of emotions. The kind of song you could listen to while walking through a rainy night. I think Vigilante knew exactly what he was trying to get out of this mix, and he did just that. I always enjoyed the Metroid theme after Ailsean's "Metaltroid", but this song really has taken it to a whole new level.
I played this song to get some "calm" music going as I did some work, yet I couldn't concentrate, I just had to sit and listen (Especially at about 3:58, where it really picks up the pacing). Yes, this song is that good. Easily one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard in my entire life.

Any chance the 9-minute original will turn up as a bittorrent somewhere? This is one of my favorite songs on ocr and I'd love to hear the full, high-bitrate version.
probably not, but i'll tell you what i AM going to do
i'm going to sooner or later update the entire song, better patches, better recording, smoother edges, and i'm gonna trim the fat so i can include the segment that the OCR version is missing. shooting for early 2005.

^Holy shit yes. As with any Vigilante mix the highlight of the song is the guitar work and I am definitely loving it in this one. I can't wait to hear an improved version. So the song can sound as good as the arrangement and guitar playing is.

The best thing about this song, is that it's long, over 7 minutes long, which gives us more mp3 to love. What can I say? Superb, in every meaning of the word - I don't see this coming off my playlist for a long long time.

This was one of the first remixes I ever downloaded from the site, and it remains one of my favorites.
In my opinion, Super Metriod had some of the best music ever, next to the Final Fantasy games that is. But sadly, most of the mixes don't do them justice. This is one of the few that does.

The guitar line throughout is well thought out and well executed. i was glad there was no attempt at any sort of "cop out" electric lead. the choice of effects on the guitar was great.

wow this is a great mix
its got all of the best songs from super metroid
usually transitions between different songs throw you off but its not like that at all in this song
i was impressed with how vigilante put together brinstar and kraids hideout
i love the changes he made to kraids hideout
he finishes off the song by gradually slowing down and adding some strings to make it all the more beautiful
the song clips a bit but its soft and soothing, one of the best metroid remixes out there, definatly worth the download

This is in the top 5, of my favorice ocremix's list. It's just nice easy listening that I can't get sick of. It really takes the metroid theme in intersting ( and jazzy ) directions. I especialy love the kraids theme reinterpret.
All this being said, does anyone know where, or have the 9 minutes version mentioned on page one? I'd love to hear it. Or even better an original wave ( tho that may be asking a bit much ). To keep the forum clutter free, a PM will suffice.

I cannot express how absolutely much I love this remix. Most songs with a pleasant, relaxing tone don't leave me feeling pleasant or relaxed, but this one never fails to calm me down and make me at least crack half a smile.
When I'm having a hard time sleeping, it helps put me out.
When I'm ticked, it helps me think rationally.
A shrink could prescribe this song and cure a lot more patients a lot faster.

No doubt about it with a little jazz in there this is the most best song i have ever heard out of all my other metroid remixes and adding kraids lair just gets even better i recommond this song to alot of people cause i really think it runs into anybody who listens to it uve done well Vigilante well done superb!!!!!!!!!:-D
imo, the initial flute seems a little off, but that can be forgiven because this mix is epic. This mix is definitely something you want to have coffee over; one can almost even smell the beans roasting.
At least, until it gets sort of frantic. :<
Still, I love how the terrain changes throughout this mix.
In most mixes, new territory is fairly in your face, but the changes here are more subtle, more "look where you've came from" instead of "looking where you're going". Great work.

this is magnificant, althought one particular part was very off or just seem to annoy me, sry if i sound like a bitch, the guitar part at 0:35 with the guitar changing from one speaker to the other seemed to switch at a bad time.

One of the truly 'elite' tracks from OCR. This song is so masterfully crafted that I can play it for my dad or my son and both like it. To achieve such tight unity in a medley is hard, but it is done here.
Seriously a 10 of 10.

Thanks, if that mirror goes down I can host the extended version on Tindeck or something :-) Thanks for sharing Liz!
This is really a masterful track, the extended intro was a nice surprise and transitioned pretty well into the meat of the track. The guitar sounds a lot better than it did in some of Vig's earlier tracks, you can tell there was some real improvement on that front.
Honestly, this is the kind of thing I can just fall asleep to just because of how chill it is... at least, for the first few minutes of it. After it takes a more dramatic tone, I can't say it's really as enjoyable for me but I can't deny the musical prowess behind all parts of this song :-)
I dunno if I would consider this to be Vig's best work, as I still like the instrumental variety of Beneath the Surface better, but in terms of arrangement and just sheer epicness, this one wins out. Absolutely stellar work!

Awesome remix, I can't believe I didn't comment sooner as I've listened to it countless times.

Got it :-), thanks a lot :-)
Man, it sucks that Jesse thinks he is too cool to remix tracks anymore, because this is really good stuff.
It flows really well between sources, and has a languid approach to getting it's ideas out; there's no harried rush here, just some really well done themes spread out over seven and a half minutes. The intensity varies between sections, keeping things surprising, but the transitions remain strong. Pretty excellent stuff. :-)

Definitely a classic track. I remember listening to this on repeat for hours. Looking back on it with a more experienced ear, it is still an excellent track. It's not perfect by any means, with some production/recording issues, but they seem to add to the charm. The arrangement is top notch. We get a sweet fusion of two Metroid themes, which happened to have been my two favorite when this track was released. A time break-down really isn't necessary and would not do justice to the track. This is an aural journey not to be missed by any Metroid fan. It would be a real treat if a higher quality version were to be uploaded given OCR's new file size limits.

So I was listening to some online radio stream earlier tonight, and found a nice one called The Spinning Stream. Apparently it's Famicom Fridays too, so they're playing songs that are from or are remixes of tracks from that system. Good lineup; even some ReMixes in it.
That brings me to this. It played this track. I'd seen it before, but hadn't had the chance to check it out (or the drive to do so). However, upon hearing it I wonder why I never did so.
What is contained within this track is a beautiful atmosphere, one that takes the feeling of an alien world conveyed by the multiple source tracks and merges them into something similar yet altogether different at the same time. After hearing it, I came here and downloaded it right away.
I'm rather pleased that it came up; another excellent track is always good to add to one's musical collection. And Vig's track here is definitely one of those.

I can't wrap my mind around the fact that this is from all the way back to 2003. That makes this around 9 years old. This is incredible. It competes with new mixes. Absolutely beautiful, and epic later on. This was one of the main mixes that got me onto this site. Kudos. Great job!
