Wouldn't call this funk, but I will call it freakin' fantastic.
I kinda wish the notes stayed more true to the original, but the intrepretations are good.
Excellent sample qualities, and this Blues Brothers-esque piece just sounds fabulous.
Sounds like the "Runaway Five" got a hold of Mario.
Is it me, or does Super Mario Bros. 3 inspire the strangest mixes?
I already reviewed this in WIP. To be brief, this is AmIEvil.
'Nuff said.

8O HOLEY SHIT MAN!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS :D , that's one kick ass song, the hole thing :o , I don't think I'll listen to anything else for a long LONG time.
I really can't get enough of the extremely sweet sax solo in the middle 8)

All I can say is wow. By far the most acoustic sounding production done electronically I've heard on this site. Great job...this one is a keeper.
I'm VERY curious on what samples you used. Sounds like you used the Memphis Horns library, but I might be way off. I've got to know what killer samples those were. INCREDIBLE! Great job using them too!

I'd just like to say that this is one of those songs that's become an instant favorite of mine. One of those mp3's that just sits in Winamp by itself, eternally looping.

Oh, I'm certainly glad this one got through the Judges so fast. I listened to this when AmIEvil put it up on the forums for public comment, and since I loved it then, I love it now. The rising brass and intro help to build up to the song itself, and when it gets in, there's no stopping it. The saxophone tes this bluesy gem, with brass blares and rolls in the background to add to the effect. An organ comes in at about the :55 mark, giving a little more variety to the piece and keeping it from getting too repetitive - that is, if it could possibly get repetitive. The jazzy riff with the improv sax therein is very snazzy, and during the last forty-five seconds the brass takes backseat to a somewhat eclectic organ solo in the foreground. AmIEvil has always put out quality ReMixes, and jazz mixes are usually some of my favourites, so this lives up to all expectations. "Battle Rocks" has a very realistic, human feel to it and the instrumentation is very well done both in arrangement and the quality of the sound. This one is definitely one that'll be staying on MY playlist for some time to come. Thanks, djpretzel. Thanks AmIEvil. Thanks OCR!

This is really great. It's not my favorite kind of music, but I really like it. The only thing is that it could probably have gone on for twice as long and I wouldn't have known it.
AmIEvil is hands down one of my favorite artists on this site. How do you do it?

Excellent. The bass line kind of reminds me of Virts' old Dr. Mario mix which was/is also excellent, but I like this better. The sound samples are great. Not sure what I can really add to this discussion. Excellent!

This track rocks. Period. I can picture this being in a crime-caper flick like Ocean's Eleven or The Italian Job, in a montage where the criminals are getting organized and everything. Either that, or it's the perfect night-cruisin' track.
Ever since hearing Mustin's awesome Sax skills in Controlled Jazz and The Atomizer, not to mention Cecil's Jinn & Juice, I've had a soft spot for the sax, and this piece is like a bolt outta nowhere. With awesome instruments, a good supporting piano, and a solo in the middle that I adore, this is easily one of my faves.
9/10 for its somewhat too-electronic organ.

However, i liked AmIEvil's FF6 Death On the Snowfield much more

WOW. Easily one of the best remixes on this site. This sounds like music from a deleted scene of The Blues Brothers. At first I was a bit skeptical (as I was when I first saw The Blues Brothers). But after the first time I realized, wow, something amazing just happened here. The second time around I noticed my foot was tapping and my head was bobbing the entire time.
Dig.

This is awesome! I'm not sure what genre I'd call this. It isn't exactly funk, but it DEFINITELY isn't jazz. Or at least I wouldn't call it jazz. Well anyways, while I enjoyed the whole song, I loved the soloing a lot more than the rest of it. Sometimes it seemed almost... corny. But like I said, it's awesome, and very deserving of the first "FUCKIN" I've ever seen Darkesword put before "SOLID". :D

I didnt like this song as much as other AmIEvil works. I think it concentrated way too heavily on style and samplage and not nearly enough on arrangement to do the great original justice. I didnt like the new chords or the static beat. It had some nice improv though which is always good. Way too short though.

I was very impressed with this arrangement! It extraordinarily fills the gap that the Nintendo Entertainment System's sound left it. AmiEvil has definitely exposed the full potential of this piece, making it in the most logical and wonderful style.

04-19-2003, 06:11 PM
Wow. This is nicely done! Though I already figured that this type of remix would be done as Super Mario Bros 3 music sounds jazzy already, I'd say that this remix is a nice extension to the already great SMB3 music. Nice.

It's hard to distinguish music composed on a computer and a live piece these days. I'm going with live piece. There's NO WAY this sound could be replicated with any Gigasamples or soundfonts or crap like that. Then again... if it is, it's THE most realistic computerized composition... ever...
EVAR!
Anyways, regardless of it being live or not, I thoroughly enjoyed this remix. It made me of course, think back to the 70s, and the Blues Brothers. This is a swingin groovy song. Must download.

Maybe you don't play one of these instruments or something, but you can tell it's fake.
Great brass samples, though. In passing, most probably wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't real (until you turned it up).

GOOD GRAVY I LOVE THIS THIS TRACK!!!
i've loved almost ALL of AmIEvil's pieces, but this one takes the f**king cake!!! a real smooth yet pounding beat that you can really dance to. Will make your most depressed feelings shatter like a martini glass to granite. altho i could say it sorta moves away from the original at points, that doesnt mean it cant be SOME SERIOUS TUNAGE!!!
MAJOR THANKS to AmIEvil for making such an awesome track, you dunno how many of my bad days you just turned around

Gahhh! HOLY SHIZ-ITE! I was laughing and crying and cheering all the time when I heard this. Hilarious, wonderfully remixed old school song. Got the funk!
OK OK. The lazy swinging intro that models after the original track is a great touch. Another one is the well-performed drums, and the nicely played sax/trumpet later on about :45 in. And also the sax's groovin' add on at the end is WONDERFUL! Too damn good!

I personally dislike this mix. It takes away some of the quality the actual theme had (and, back then, it was low quality)
I blame the original being so poor for this poor remix...

AmIEviL, I must commend you on this awesome mix. It has become my official theme music. XD I blast it when I'm just crusin' around my campus, and people either think I'm insane, or really dig it. And in fact, a few people even recognized it as your mix. ^^

hot skippy damn the instruments and the play was teh jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT!!
too repetitive and boring, it had no spirit :( i think the problem was it didn't stray far enough from the original song... normally this would be a GOOD thing but the original song is too repetitive and boring so there's the problem :(
just disappointed that it sounded so good but I didn't like it :(

This remix is stupendous! The beginning (in my opinion) is hilarious, and then it gets down to business with a great take on the original song. This remix, at times, kind of reminded me of the "Blues Brothers" theme from their first movie (one of my favorites). Good stuff!
OMG!!!
I imagined a fucking goomba with a sax, dark glasses and a black suit, a koopa playing the battery, outfited the same, and another danged goomba playing organ in the background, outfited the same. all this while mario pulls up in a black lincoln or someting, outfitted the same!!! definately impressive. I always found this piece funny, but this one takes it to the limits of fun, and of koolness. you just cant stop tapping yer foot and bobbing yer head. awesome, and the overall mood of the song is really kool. one of the best remixes in OCR.

09-11-2004, 09:51 AM
Nice. First it doesn't take away from an already groovy bassline, then it adds a very nice melody, and those cheesy bits that I only usually hear on poor pop songs. The electric piano stops the melody from getting boring before the sax solo. The sax is very good. Bad sax = killer. This should be heard without hesitation
