This song is repetitive and simplistic. Not too much going on here.

I didn't notice the percussion being too terribly out of sync, but the
lead instrument just does not sound very good. On top of that, there
is no development of the original theme, and past that, it's way too short.

Well first of all this is really short. There aren't many instruments here, but the texture is good nevertheless. The beat(s) are off at times, they have a completely different groove, doesn't work IMO. The fade out ending is inappropriate. This mix doesn't really go anywhere.
