Wow, great remix. I love the way it jumps from a simple loading sequence to an all out bang at 1:15, and when it changes from this upbeat tune to the softer second half, it lets you cool down for a bit.
Like all of his work, The Wingless has yet to dissapoint.

I mean, wow! 8O This is one clocked out tune.
I love the start up process that you created for this song.
Even though it say that it is from the game, I've never heard it in either of the two games. And I can tell that you made it because some of what is says is complety pointless but sounds kick ass! Thank you for finally delevering a remix of one of my most favorite, classic tunes... 8)

"Rock on"

The first part is the Corneria (1st level) song from the SNES Starfox. The second part sounds like the "victory" after each level.

Anyway, this tune kicks major ass!

mix #996 . Sounds kinda cool

Anyways, here's the pre-launch sequence to the song, for you dorks who really want to know. (Man I'm bored!)

Internal power to enable
External power to disable
Primary weapons to enable
Secondary weapons to enable and prime
Astrogation systems to enable
Life support to enable
Deflector shields to enable and prime
Targetting systems to enable
Alpha interface to enable
Beta interface to prime

Edit: To Vortex: the second song is from the "blueprint" section of the game. After you win, the game will show you the model and stats of all the bosses you faced in that particular route. The repeating bassline and some synths are from that "blueprint" section.

This is an excellent remix. The launch sequence separates this mix from all the others. It's definately the part you wanted to make stand out the most from the mix. It helps create the effect of blasting off in a mission. Good stuff right here.

I'm a little dubious as to the quality of the samples, but it's all very, very pleasing. Worth it for the opening sequence alone, which makes me want to boot up Elite or something, fire up my ship, and go on a pirate-busting rampage.

Launch clearance! VTOL jets to full! Retract gear! JUMP!

I enjoyed this song the whole way through, especially starting at 1'30. I agree with some comments above, it made me want to jump in a ship and blast off. (albeit my ship is in the game X-Tension) :)

Man, this one is all around good stuff. Not that any of THE winglesses stuff isn't. But this one just breaths starfox. I agree with DJP about this one being a picturesque soundtrack song. It really does sound like something you would find on the Starfox64 OST, if there was one. One thing that I especially like is how well the entire track was smoothed out. Sorry, i dont know the technical terminology, i'm probably talking about mastering, and dont know it. ANywho! Not only was the meat of this song very well done, but the wax/shine/polish job was just as well done, giving it that pretty NewRMX smell :D

i give it 9/10 NiceWorkGuys

F***in nice. I needed a towel after I heard this mix. This is quality stuff right here. I actually liked the second half better, mainly because I actually know the song. :) But the whole song really just kicks ass. I don't know what to say...
This is just really damn good.
:nicework: Kudos to The Wingless.

awsome intro, the rest of it was very midi/synth for me.....

06-14-2003, 11:07 AM
Im afraid im going to be different, and say that I didnt quite enjoy the intro as much as everyone else.

It certainly set the scene, but I was after some music instantly, ya know? I liked the familiar beeps making out the corneria tune at the beginning though. quite delightful! However, I think it just went on for too long.

It almost lost me, until the point where the beat comes in. bruaght me well back :)
Its different, and i love it. Love all of the fading of the tune, to create more of an impact at certain points. It works really well.

The latter of the track is a good break too. At first I was expecting to hear lots fo weird noises for another minute or so... but thankfully, theres familiar StarFox tunes in there. (not entirely sure where from, but i recognised them)

Well doen for recreating the tunes so well. Almost brings a tear to my eyes *sniff*

8.5/10 (0.5 bonus point for recreating them so well!)

Alright, I've heard the mix now and the beep + strings intro is a lot of fun. Who did the voices? Are those game samples, or is that you, John?

Also, + a hojillion points for the use of church bells. One of my favorite staples of Wingless mixes.

The use of strings over techno is beautiful. It always has been. Goes back at least as far as Sonic 3 IceCapped (harp + flute over beats). The eclectic use of instruments and combining "conventional" instruments with purely synthetic ones is a distinctive bit of OC Remix heritage, and Wingless continues it flawlessly. Definately "soundtrack style" as DJP put it.

(The strings do sound a wee bit MIDIish)

Maybe I'll review the second part another day.

awesome track, i love the bells in the first half on the track. The engine sounds and voices in the intor were an awesome way to bring in the melody.

DANG I LOVE THOSE BELLS!!

Nobbynob Littlun
06-14-2003, 06:49 PM
This definitely has the feel of the Starfox soundtrack to it. The only thing from a typical Starfox song that's missing is a military-style snare. The strings are very aggressive, just as they are in Pharoah Land :) Between these two songs, I'd say you would probably like the music in Skyblazer for the SNES. Check out the Falls of Torment music to hear some neat bells which, although not in your music, I could hear in there anyway.

06-14-2003, 08:03 PM
Ok, I'll really be different then and say I didn't like the mix at all. I'm glad there are people who enjoy it, as I know you must have put a lot of work into it. But StarFox tunes were really thin and weak on the game, and I don't think this mix did anything to improve that. Keep mixing though! :)

06-14-2003, 08:04 PM
Now I liked this remix. It had a touch of class with the strings and the bells stuff and the obligatory sound bytes of the ship for the starfox soundtract was cool. Overall it was probaably one of the better remixes I've heard

Nice Job :nicework:

YES, finally, a Corneria remix. The music from that first stage of Starfox has long been one of my favorite game tracks. This is damn good, although I really want to see what someone could do with a rock/electronic version of the same song. This one has a permanant place on my playlist nonetheless.

This remix was good, but I felt like the buildup could have been compressed to a shorter length. Some parts skirted the edge of being somewhat cheesey. Specifically I am referring to the echoey pad thing during the last part of the mix. It wasn't so much the patch as it was the simplistic harmonic progression. In other words, the "vertical" aspect of the notes on the staff was not as engaging as I would have liked. This surprised me because the The Wingless can put together some harmonically dense and interesting things such as Teardrinker (http://remix.overclocked.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00786), which is his kick-ass interpretation of the Bubble Man stage from Mega Man II.

Still, I enjoyed one of my old school favorites from those days when the most important thing in my life was trying to feel a girl's boob for 10 seconds in a dark movie theater. I'll give this mix my stamp of approval, but I know the Wingless can do better.

The wingless never ceases to amaze me with his creativity and his great ideas. I love the track, especially when it breaks down to the boss credits music. Nice choice of sounds for the style done, and those vocal clips in the beginning at a nice touch. Where did you find those?! hehe. Great job man.

I like this. I only really like the first half, however, there are parts of the second half that really catch me, the bass in the second half seems to turn me off. Everything about the first half is awesome. I just don't know why everyone is saying that the two halves blend in together so well!! I hardly call coming to complete silence for a couple of seconds, then starting the next half, blending in. Apart from that, great stuff!

06-15-2003, 04:51 PM
does sound a bit midiish, but i like the second part more than the first, the intro sounds straight out of metalgear solid or something. its pretty good anyways, i just like the style of the second part better.

The term is "GM", for General Midi (in reference to the sample quality, most likely), not "midiish", which could mean a whole lot of things.

I enjoyed the Intro and the first couple of minutes.

I usually read the reviews while I listen to the mix the first time through, so by the time I got to the second half of the song, based on the reviews, I was expecting to be disappointed. I wasn't.

I think the second half was the best part of the song, it was tasteful, didn't get old. The sampling wasn't bad...for some of the instruments, electronic music sounds don't get much better than that without going to beg your local symphony orchestra to record for you.

This one is going on my favorite mixes list!

I liked the mix as a whole, but it's got one problem (as far as I'm concerned).

The whole intro, while long, was great. It's a good intro, and the long buildup works. You can't listen to it several times in a row (that would make it annoying, I suppose), but whenever it pops up in my playlists, it's great to listen to.

The whole elctronica begining doesn't make a whole song in itself, and so adding the victory theme for the second half was a good move. But there's one thing about it that really bugs me. The fade-out. The buildup was nice, very much like some kind of movie preview or something. The fade-out simply doesn't fit in as a decent counter part to the begining.

The begining 2:26 minutes of this song was my favorite part. This song is definitly something that I like. Good Job The Wingless. :D

Ditto. I don't to much care for the first part, that's just a matter of personal taste. But like Tybalt said, from 2:26 on through I absolutely loved it. Damn good work!!! 8)

damn, that was good... I gotta say my favorite part was the beginning (who doesn't love the Corneria theme?). The Orchestra strings and bells were beautiful. Being a Corneria-junky that i am I probably would have enjoyed more of the initial theme but... Hell... this is one damn good solid mix. If any future StarFox game coming out doesn't have music that equals the level of quality that this mix has I'm gonna have a sack of shit on fire at Nintendo and Namco's doorstep......

Nice work Wingless. This mix is incredible... ^_^ This is starfox as it should have been. So dramatic too.... i could just see some form of suspensful story telling going on with this one.... if only the Starfox games had a real story....

Excellent medley. The variety here is excellent. The electronica opening is cool (especially since the pilot's voice isn't Fox's voice from StarFox Adventures... gad, that voice got on my nerves).

The part after 1:15 sounds like Mannheim Steamroller, if you're familiar with them. And the electronic arpeggios at the beginning sound like Creatures of Levania from their Fresh Aire V album.

I'm stunned by your versatility, Wingless. This isn't at all like your other mixes, the ambient piano sorta ones. Your style was quite evident at places like 4:39 with those thick chords.

You = awesome. Submit more.

Excellent work Wingless!
This remix of this classic tune brings back those memories of flying those Arwings into those unfriendly skies.(with some kickbutt techno playing)
If the next StarFox game was to feature any kind of music..it would definitely have to be techno. 8)

Dude, I love the intro.....reminds me a hell of a lot like the little intro to Corneria, when it says, in big, bold, flashing letters, "SCRAMBLE" with uninterpretable voices in the BG.....you remixed the corneria theme nicely....second half was a nice little relaxing thing, but there's very little trace of any SF music there....not from what I remember anyway....

EDIT: Screw it. After further listening I found nothing wrong with this mix whatsoever; in fact I loved every part of i.

Best. Intro. Ever. Damn, I love the way this remix begins. The buildup with the voices and bells is just awesome. Gives me the shivers. The rest of the song is great, too -- hey, it's Wingless after all -- but nothing beats that opening.

I give it a second class recommendation.

I really, really liked this one. The intro was especially great. It really feels like you're in an Arwing, getting ready to scramble out into a battle. Great job with the feel there.

The first half is also nice, brings me back to the first time I played Starfox 64...the first game I played on the N64 actually. The main melody is good. and the bells/pings/whatever you call them going on top of that is great.

The fade out does kill the feel some...there could have been a better way to make that transition, but it still works. The second half is nice, though I like the more up-tempo first half. Overall...a very, very nice remix.

I love this mix, but what's going on at 1:15 (and 3 times after)? It sounds like there's voice, but it's impossible to understand. It's been driving me nuts, and I'm amazed that none of the previous 45 posts have mentioned it.
Other than that, this is definitely a great remix in my book.

FALCIO
08-19-2003, 10:21 AM
Ok, I'm late but here's my humble opinion...
Really a great remix, the intro is fantastic as everyone says, the checklist voices need to be turned up a bit...also before the chacklist begins I can hear a plane fliyng-by, that had to be a little louder too.
The best part is the plane's engines noise just before the music starts...and the rest is real good.

Now...
...Will someone listen to us?

I don't think there's anything I could say that hasn't already been said, but I must say, this is one of my all-time favorite mixes. EVER. The synth work is great, the stylish piano breaths life into what would just be a long wind-down, and the samples at the begining give this mix a feeling of something... more. As a whole, this mix sounds full and beautiful; nothing ever seems contrived or out of place... it revs you up, calms you down, and then sails you away before you hit bottom.

10/10

Wow. Just wow.

Ive listened to this mix about 1000 times now, I just cant get enough of it. The first part of the song is just pure bliss for my ears. The 2nd part is nice, but I dont like it as much as the first. If this would be a pure corneria mix, I would probably listen to it every day until I die.

Still, this is the best mix on the site.

OH MY GOD! This is great! I love the beginning. It sounds just like mission control with the vocals and little electronic beeps. Wow, and it gets better when you get that 'liftoff' feeling. The second half makes me feel like i'm just gliding along in my R-Wing with Fox and the crew. It's great. Almost like a free kinda feeling. I definetly favor the first half of this song with all the techno and hip beats. I also love the fadeaway ending too. This is great! Did I already say that? Yea, I did! Must mean I like it alot! Wow! I agree that this song is uber fricken awesome. It roxx my soxx! But one little thing I noticed, the hi synth during the intro, while the voices are going on: I was listening via headphones, and when the doubling occurs for said hi synth, it's in stereo so that one comes in one headphone, but the echo comes in the other. However, the echo isn't any quiter than the source, so it throws you off as far as rythm. I also noticed this when I was listening to it in my car. It just feels off while listening to it through certain mediums. Not a big problem, just a minor note I thought I'd point out.

Wow...I somehow missed this one when it first came out...I came looking for a Corneria remix, as I had a sudden craving for that song. I was not dissapointed :P Very, very nice, and the coverage on the Star Fox ending theme was also excellent.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here. Not only is Godspeed my favorite Remix on the site, but it just might very well be my favorite overall song.

Even thought its been mentioned more than anything else, the intro is awesome. Beyond awesome. Those who've played the original SNES Star Fox will remember the opening "Scramble" scene at once.

And then at 1:15, it'll sound like you just shot out of the Corneria base, and then... wow. You blast out of the base, then the music kicks up for a while until it changes tunes at 2:26.

This change makes Godspeed sound like two songs in one (and it is) and that is another reason why I love it. Why go for just one tune from the game when you can have two?

Wingless, thank you for creating this incredible song. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Not only did it feel like your going to fly out into battle. But in the middle of the song it felt it you just left the atmosphere and for the first time saw outer space in real life. The entire piece is perfect and mellowing. I would comment that it is also part of my top 10 list for Ocremix songs.

Another one of my favorites.

The begining of the song correlates well with the beginin of Starfox, when the craft begins to launch. Using the voices was an excellent idea. I also love how at 1:15 or so the music just jumps out and becomes very fast paced and loud, just like when you launch out on the first part. I really envisioned myself flying the ship around and doing barrel rolls.

I didn't praticularly enjoy the slowdown at about 2:25 but the piano afterwards was very nice.

Great remix. one of my favorites as I said, but I do believe I would've enjoyed it more if it had stayed with it's first vision from 1:15-2:26 maintaining the speed and instruments.

Great song. Weird intro, but it leads to the really upbeat fist half in a cool way. Then it becomes a very relaxing song at the second half. A risky spin indeed as Djpretzel said in his review. Great song afterall, good job Wingless!

This song nearly brought tears to my eyes with pure nostalgia and joy. An excellent use of the source material, and the intro is PERFECT - recognisable by any StarFox fan. Then the engines spin up, and the song gets underway.

There are a couple of different feelings during the song, all good. Download now, and enjoy!

A good track with a great flow to it. I didn't really care much for the intro but it does add a spacy feel to it so thats a plus. My fav. part is at 1:15 when the music from corneria kicks in. THIS IS HOW THE LEVEL SHOULD BE REMIXED. It's an absolutely perfect remix of that level's music. It's so intense and I like the bass beat too. My biggest qualm is that the mix looses its steam around 2:33 and the track seems to just drone on. The piano work is excellent but I think I preffer Space Cowboys by bLiNd. All in all it's a great track with excellent production. Could you expect anything less from The Wingless? I think not.

This piece is brilliant. Not a particularly easy track to remix, the first part, "Flying Over Corneria." I love the sci-fi voice cuts here. Enable all systems. Set weapons to prime. Indeed.

The second piece remains my favorite part. A drifting quality has been added in alongside the pop style of the mix, and together the two work wonders reminiscent of One Girl in All the World, or was it All the World in a Girl? I can never keep the two seperated... hold up.

It's the All the World in One Girl, also by the WIngless. I hear a lot of that piece in here, and it works really nicely, adding an almost sad quality to the piece.

Anyways, good work WIngless, one of your best. Keep this up and I'm sure your wings will return.

pHaT b33tz!

I enjoy spam.

Can the wingless djp?

hawt song.
Strings=awkward, but not as glaring as your earlier work.
piano in second part should be louder.
beepy crap at the beginning is a great intro, but it shoulda been brought down just a little bit volume-wise after a little.
I just got a nasty urge to add a randomly selected dj shadow drumloop to the song and email it to you.
not gonna happen.

Freakin Sweet! This being one of my favourite songs from an SNES game, this ReMix does it justice, great justice! The opening part with the start up sequence is pretty cool as it builds up into the main part of the song. Nice!

GREAT REMIX! I loved it the second I heard it. I've always loved the wingless' tunes, and I think he's working on a remix request for me at the moment. He did a perfect build-up, and he's a fricken genius....just visit his site (http://www.thewingless.com)

I love this piece through and through, and could listen to it over and over again, even though I like to max out every icrement of volume I have. It's literally orgasm for my ears... The opening checklist is probably the best lead-in I have ever heard, and once it got to 1:16... And then once it started up again at 1:44... People think I'm comatose during those 42 seconds of pure mind-bending orgasm, and I mean that in a good way!

I really love this remix! The first time I heard the original Corneria song I thought that was one of the coolest songs ever so I went looking for a remix here and found this, and I must say, it's truly just what I was searching for! The opening sequence with the voices is awesome. Makes me feel like I'm watching an Arwing about to take off. I was a tad disappointed that the second half didn't have quite as much energy as the beginning, but it's quite beautiful. This is a really awesome remix of a really awesome song. Two thumbs up! :D

I don't wanna keep chewing on an old bone, but I'd like to ask 2 things.

1. Since I read this thread semi-thoroughly and even though Wingless was very kind to post what the pre-launch sequence had said, I'm still confused about it. What source did the pre-launch sequence come from? Was it transplanted from the N64 game(since it had understandable voice clips and not meaningless mumbles like the first game had), or created from scratch just for this song? Side note: the first game did indeed have one clip that you could understand at the "scramble" screen as I recall. I can't remember what it said though....

2. Is it possible to get that pre-launch sequence just by itself? I feel it might make an excelent addition to my rig's windows startup sequence.

Either way, it's a very good intro to an outstanding remix. I won't go into any further detail than that, because I'd just be repeating what everyone else has been saying..... at least those on the positive side of this song.

I'll just drop my personal tastes right here, since I don't post much. The following can be safely ignored, and free you of any potental drain bamage.

[start semi-ignorant ranting]

And a P.S. to all those who despise fadeouts: There are times that come when a fadeout is the only way to properly end a song, especially if the end of the song slowly winds down like this song does. This especially is true when you come across songs that can, or were made, to loop on forever without ever pausing or breaking, as seen with videogame music. Or where it's slow and would rather trail off. I personaly favor fadeouts to sudden stops... but ONLY if the sudden stop would not work. I really get miffed when a song ends and leaves you thinking; "Huh? That's it? What's up with the cliffhanger?" But some people just seem to like those too.... but at least sometimes there is some consolation of the "residual reverb".

[end semi-ignorant ranting]

I really like this song for the fact that it remixes the Starfox credit theme :)
It is however a great song all around, very unique.

The extended buildup and the following explosion make the song. Chills at 1:15. Every time. The rest is gravy.

In the parallel universe where I am not colorblind, this remix plays in my mind every time I, in training, fire up my Talon. The pre-combat tension, along with the hectic, blood-pumping, ephemeral nature of the dogfight itself, is captured perfectly, to my ears at least. Sure, I wish the Corneria portion was longer, but what you did here Wingless fits perfectly with how I would envision aerial combat. Then the comparative serenity and reflectiveness in the aftermath... yes. If only you could make a cut-and-dry distinction between good and evil forces and fight on the side of good. But nevermind the impossibility; this piece takes me there.

All I got to say about this track is if someone gets the idea to film a Star Fox flick, it better be good. And if this song is not in the trailer or the opening credits, i'm throwing my popcorn already. great work on this, it's my absolute favorite song from my absolute favorite series :D

A shout out to The wingless:
For a long time you've been one of my favorite ReMixers on this site. You have always been at the top of your game, my friend. Hearing this was just what I needed today. Completely moving. Completely epic. I can't wait to fire up my catalog of your other tracks that I have on my computer and can't wait to see another post of yours soon.

Nice intro that is pretentious and grandiose enough to live up to the legacy of The Wingless. ;-)

Overall an excellent theme selection, and a really well-done approach to it. The samples don't hold up amazingly, but the arrangement is still really good and creative.

The Wingless definitely branched out musically in the beginning of this track, but by the second half, we get some classic Wingless vibe. The first half is much more electronic with a fittingly sci-fi opening complete with a script. Musically he creates some tension that resolves into the second section at 2:36. Here he moves from the Corneria BGM into the main theme. At 3:33 we get the first distinctive Wingless key modulation of the track. The outro sounds very spacey and appropriate to the theme.
