I've got a big list of games that deserve more OCR love, and Crystalis is on that list (right behind Suikoden II actually). Anyway, I JUST finished this arrangement of the 30 second Shyron theme. I used a quasi-renaissance string quartet and there's no mp3 of it yet because... well, I just finished it.

Tell me what you think of this arrangement though.

EDIT: MP3 of it, ~3:00 long now: http://dpaladin.googlepages.com/shyron_wip1.mp3
Original (midi): http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/Shyron.mid

It's a bit short at 1:30, though I suppose one way of looking at it is that it's 3 times as long as the original. I think it needs more content though. Any ideas?

I just slapped this together in like half an hour, so I haven't messed with velocities at all. I'm more interested in hearing what people think of the arrangement at the moment, though any production criticisms are welcome since that has always been my weakness.

I'd just like to give you a virtual high-five for the Crystalis love. The piece sounds good, if sparse. Brings back memories.

Crystalis is certainly a vastly untapped resource, and Shyron's always been one of my favorites from the soundtrack.

There's a hit at :27 that just sounds like the velocity was accidentally set too high. Other than that, seeing as how you have such sparse instrumentation, the dynamics could use a little work throughout. You may also want to consider changing up the instrumentation in the first half a bit. For a short while, it very much begins to sound like the source; however, the end becomes hardly recognizable after a while, so no worries there. :)

I really love the direction you're going in. Keep it up, and good luck!
