So I'm looking at two possible directions for Farewell Song, two different styles of folk ballad. I'll let Rozo make the call on which one I try first.

My original plan was to make it a slow and moody appalachian ballad, modelled closely after Ashokan Farewell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGqBggXvtDE)

However, I've also been toying with the idea of making it a quicker, more irish-influenced ballad, something like Morning Fog in the Village (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-WVcpHpUBw)

I'm getting work done on the mixes I've promised to do for other projects, so I should have time to have a look at my tracks for this project, both of which are at the threshold of completion having forgotten what to do when they're at the front of the queue. :D Once they're all done, I can start claiming tracks and turn the sd3 project into another Relics of the Chozo where half the tracks are done by the same dude. Don't turn me into Protricity, guys. ;) Get mixin'!

Anyway, so Bahamut can add it to the projects thread: if you have something to offer the project, like art, skills in arranging and/or mixing, suggestions for active and interested people for us to shanghai onto the project, good relations with staff of Seiken Densetsu fansites (we got seikens.com covered) or Hiroki Kikuta fansites (preferably with musicians/arrangers/remixers)... anything we could use, let me know.

Alright, I'll bite. Long Goodbye is giving me some slight inspiration and I feel like I've significantly improved my piano skills to the point where I might be able to make something passable, so I'll mess around with it for a bit to see what I can do.

EDIT AGAIN: I just finished a 3 minute recording to show you kiiiiinda what I'm going for. I'll have that PM'd to you soon. I recorded it with my digital camera so the quality is crappy and the entire thing was improvised (I hope to have a MIDI keyboard by the time crunch time hits for the project, so I'll have better recording quality and be able to fix the missed notes) but I wanted to get it up ASAP to show you I'm serious about this :-) You've been very inviting to me with the project and I want to reciprocate that by hauling ass to get this done for you :-P

Once finals week is over I'll be able to put some significant time into writing. I've decided to turn my piece from a solo piano mix to a multi-instrumental piece with a flute and violin, so I'm gonna sit down with some friends and try and get a solid arrangement done :-P I might not have anything tangible to show for a little bit, but rest assured I'm working at it :-)

Also, if anyone plays piano or violin (I think I've got a flute player lined up but if we can't figure out a good recording setup I might need one of them too :-p ) and would be willing to volunteer their services once I get an arrangement up, let me know!

Hi there Rozovian, well, The Dual Dragons are kind of selfish in our ReMake methods, we'll just take a track we like and make it how we would like to hear it, and then send you it, if you like it you can put it on the project, if not we'll post it on our site. So it's a win win situation :D
Anyways, we'll think about what track to choose tomorrow or something.

Some people are just sitting on their almost complete tracks, doing nothing about them. Won't you feel better when you're finished with the track and have handed it in? Yes you will. Finish them and send to me. Always great to see a new pm or two, with a wip update, a wav link, a track claim... You know, certain remixers* are gonna end up with a disc of their own on the album otherwise. ;)

I am not writing from my own computer right now, but I wanted to let you and the others know that I'm still alive. The last time we talked I suddenly disappeared, following an almost month long internet outage caused by problems with my modem and my ISP was clueless. They didn't know how to help me so I had to wait for their technical support to try tacköing this problem. They gave me half a year phone+internet for free now, and upgraded my bandwith for free too to compensate for this. Then, a short time after the internet worked again, I fell ill and needed to rest a bit, and am still recovering from it.

And on top of that, a few days ago, when I just recovered enough so I could be online again, my computer's fan broke and I needed to give it to repair, where it is now and will stay for another week or two. Luckily it is still on warranty and I get the repair for free. I also backed up all the data from its hard drive just in case. I didn't lose anything, but can't access most of my data right now.

He told me to let everyone know what was up. I'll probably link to this post on at least one other post, and I already told Halc. I was just glad to hear he hadn't died. :-o

Probably because he hired usa to do mastering or something for his album. They've got the most professional relatioship, thus the first one he'd respond about. Since Brandon's also on the project, usa could tell him and us at the same time.

First post restored and shortened. One month until next wip date, and a lot of the tracks could be done by then if we get off our collective lazy and/or busy asses and finish our wips. Which I think we should do so I know which remixers I can trust and which ones just like sitting on sources and wips and not actually finishing them.

Also, updated the list on the first post. Tooka track down, put two more up. I know, it looks as if we're progressing in the wrong direction (which technically is regressing), but it's just a couple of my own tracks that I can finish if nobody else completes their remixes of the tracks first.

That said, ppl, finish your tracks. Still lots of tracks sitting on the threshold and should just lean forward a little. My tracklist looks silly with so many tracks in an _almost_ finished state.

Nah, I was just curious, thanks for taking the time to answer. =) And I can understand liking the bassline. I've been a bass fanatic myself for awhile now. It's the reason I started learning electric bass (I used to only just play piano).

I can make music, I'm just not very good at arranging (adding my own twist). In other words, can do covers but not remixes. Also not yet used to working with VST and such, as I've spent most of my music-related time on either midi or playing real instruments. I'm only just recently trying to get into realistic samples and that sort of stuff.

I'm thinking of eventually trying to collaborate with someone on the forum for a non-project mix so that I can try to learn from them. Kinda like an apprentice. While I'd love to participate in a project someday, that day won't come for some time.

All right, I've heard from some of the ppl I've contacted, and will patiently await your incoming tracks. There's a couple of names I haven't yet contacted because I suck.

We're approaching the time when i should make my list of ppl to contact longer to include the ppl who didn't make the list last time because they then had a recent enough wip in. In other words, get your wips in asap. if it's done soon, I won't have to start a progress-report-oriented project contributor harassment campaign.

All right, for those who need to know and have missed it in the occasional other mentions I've made of it, my computer is down. Recent sd3 updates, recent coordination notes, my list of ppl to contact, all that stuff is now in the hands of tech support. I won't be caring about this project at all until I get the computer back, with or without that data.

I got some wips and some progress reports, but I won't deal with any of it until I get my gear back in shape. Would be nice to have a lot of project stuff to log and evaluate when I get stuff back, so gimme your tracks, your progress reports, your money. Two of those, at least. ;)

Life stuff, stress stuff, and other stuff getting in my way, I probably won't send anyone any feedback until Sunday night or so.

Also, we're in the process of restructuring the project (thanks to Kyle, Bahamut, and others pointing out what I'm doing wrong), so there will be changes soon. More about that later. No reason not to work on your tracks and actually finishing them. We're much farther along than you think, just not as far as we'd like. You can change that. ;)

For those of you without finished tracks but wondering about your wips - SEND ME NEW ONES!* I had a hard drive crash a month or so ago. Still trying to put stuff together. My wip folder was lost. :( My wav folder is safe. My own tracks have lost audio files but the midi and instrument data is all there. :D

This. For me, the biggest barrier to working on a song is the step it takes to open the file when I'm not "in the mood" to work on it. Sometimes I end up going "meh" and closing it again, but most of the time I get at least a little more work in.

It would be "Valon ja pimeyden lauluja" instead of "Valon ja pimeyden laulut" - the latter is "The Songs of Light and Darkness" while the former equals "Songs of Light and Darkness" without the definite article. "Lauluja" also sounds prettier. Furthermore, "Valon ja pimeyden laulut", while not grammatically wrong, sounds clumsy as a title.. something like "Kaikki valon ja pimeyden laulut", which translates to "All the Songs of Light and Darkness" sounds better (while of course changing the meaning).
