Mark Hadley gave me his resignation from the project, so we can clear what little of his contribution was from the roster and open that up.

Additionally, I'm finding I can't help myself and I'm very likely going to re-work the two remixes I have on here. Those tracks are very old and my skill has improved since then. Please do not remove the "completed" status on them as I very likely will not have time to do it (and by that, I mean I may accidentally break my legs while a demon stalks my apartment and a hacker gains control of my bank account - basically things that have already happened), but surely I don't want to go on record in 2012 or 2013 or 2014 or 2015 when this project is finished with something I did in 2008 or 2009 if it can be helped.

Finally, soon we'll also have something of a surprise in store for the project. It's not a huge or hugely beneficial one, but it'll be pretty cool and a nice contribution to the project as well as our remixers - so GET YOUR PROJECT TRACKS IN!

The sooner we finish this up, the sooner we can get on that as well. Remember, me and Rozovian can't finish up this project any quicker without your contributions coming in. This project has all the opportunity in the world as being as big as the Final Fantasy VII project or any of the other massive hits OCR has had, but it's only going to be a hit if you treat it as seriously as that.

I'm not sure just yet what we're going to do. We were going to have them mastered by Usa, one of the original project directors, but now... we can't find him. Anywhere. He hasn't shown up anywhere in months.

So, no, I don't think that will really be necessary, but we'll find out once we get there and try to make it the least hassling we possibly can.

But no, we're not mastering MP3s. We need the top quality files. MP3s are debatable in quality and while you can't HEAR the differences oftentimes, it's still a degraded quality that just isn't suitable for mastering.

Think those brickwall'd fan-posted music videos and lyric videos on Youtube. Yeah. That's what we're hoping to avoid there.

Imagine if we were talking about images instead. A wav would be a high-resolution, full-color image, and an mp3 would be a normal-sized jpeg-compressed file. If we then have to resize and adjust colors on the jpegs, they'll end up with ugly blocks, blurry stretching, odd color blotches, stuff like that. Do a google image search for low quality image jpeg compression, see how those pics look. We don't want the audio to be like that.

So the wavs you get us would ideally be mixed well enough so we don't have to do any adjustments, but if we do, we'd prefer to have more control and not have to do a lot of damage control to try to undo overcompression and other problems.

I'm not gonna ask everyone to get us new, unprocessed wavs, just to leave us some headroom and stuff to work with on your unfinished tracks.

Also, Meteo does not get to name anything. Ever.

I've tried making small tweaks to a mastering chain, mainly the gain for a song, without tweaking anything else, and it completely destroys the song, so you guys may be boned if you try to change mine, but it's good as is, amirite. :-D

No one's editing your work - the point of mastering, beyond reaching the peak of audio quality, is to have each and every track on a project match, as best as possible, in terms of level equalization and volume. We're not going to have some tracks louder or quieter than others or hotter in one EQ than another and forego any tools we can use for a professional output just to appease an "artist".

This is a serious project guided towards communal effort and we will use every available tool for that professional output. If there's a problem with the track, as you say, we'll find a way to fix it and get it where it needs to be. No one's tampering with anyone's artistic dignity or whatever, but by the time it goes to mastering, thats pretty much a moot point.

Agaaa, I know. Master processing with complete compressed mixture is not same as with uncompressed parts of this mixture.

I try to get my stuff to pass and I master it just so there doesn't have to be an hassle involved with my tracks :-o If the songs are passed then I'd be more comfortable if they didn't get tweaked, especially since they are already mastered and mastering a mastered wav is not generally a good idea. :-o

The problem is that not all youtubes have the correct names. There's two archives of the chiptunes, one I got from zophar's domain, another from snesmusic.org. The zophar version has been wrong before, we've confirmed that with the ost, and the rsn has been correct, at least on the tracks we checked (Secret of Mana, Obsession, Rolling Cradle, Fable, "Legend", and a few others. The rsn has Sixto's track listed as Flight.

It definitely plays in the ending - in particular, when you're flying in the Flammie.

Nah, we can just check it with an OST/OSV release... which we just did. The tracks where the spc and rsn agrees are probably correct, and I think we've caught the last of the misidentified tracks. Of course, the links we'll be putting up for the tracks still in red will be double-checked, just in case.

As for invites, it might be best to have correct youtube links to the tracks before a mass invite and recruitment post and all that... one thing at a time.

The tracklist is updated, tho, so as long as you check with the rsn that you remix the right track, start remixing, folks. :D

Hello again all.

Also effective immediately is my reinstatement as Assistant Director for the project - negating and erasing previous resignation statement from Tuesday. I discussed this with Rozovian and this is good to go.

I do owe you an explanation.

Tuesday was a really, really not good day for me and it ended in a health emergency that left me unhinged and not convinced I could continue my duties as the AD. The episode itself was more TMI than I'm comfortable sharing in a serious context, but it involved quite a lot of blood in the bathroom and thats all you should know. Since the summer, my family and my wife's family have been plagued with health scares nearly every week - heart problems, breast cancers, lung something-or-other, toothaches, kidney stones, malaria, and shitload of other problems I cannot afford to fix medically, so this was a straw that broke and I panicked and genuinely thought I could no longer resume my duties to the project.

As of writing today, my panicking was premature and not nearly as bad as I thought it was late Tuesday night in a fit, so I will be able to resume my duties after all.

Sorry to shit on your parade there, Brandon, but it looks like I'm here to stay until completion. If you don't like that, you know what to kiss and where to find it. If you don't like me being "pushy", then don't be an unreasonable, difficult manchild every time I have to get a track update from you. You don't get special treatment just because you want to act like a hotshot.

My job for this project is, has and always will be to GET SHIT DONE and that is my everlasting promise to the project. If you say you're going to do a track and provide a musical piece for it, you are issuing a commitment to the project. If you don't provide updates or communication, my job is to get it from you until you either A. complete it or B. quit and we replace you. One way or another, I will get A or B. That's my job.

Remember, no one has to be "pushy" if you're doing what it was you said you'd do for us in the first place. There is absolutely no reason to not be reasonable. You can talk to either of us for anything regarding the project without any need for drama and unreasonability. If you want to be hard-to-reach and difficult to deal with, I will be pushy. It's as simple as that.

For those of you who were inspired to more action since my unfortunate statement on Tuesday, I'm quite proud to see it. Wish it didn't require me to quit to see it, but let's not worry about that now. Let's use that momentum to get some serious work done on this project.

I apologize to Rozo for continuing on the derailing a bit, but there is a lot of irony in your last two posts that should be addressed - there are multiple instances where your own words can be used to describe your interactions with others. If you're going to accuse so strongly, you'd best be ready to evaluate your own actions, since you have committed many of the same faults you are accusing Brandon of, except you are arrogant enough to not even try to self-evaluate & improve yourself attitude-wise.

Show some humility and grow up. Venting at everyone for the slightest of faults is not going to get you anywhere but a put off response from just about everyone. It is a perfect example of poor management skills.

If the management skills are poor, why does Rozovian allow me to continue? He's my boss and he promoted me in the first place. He also gave the ok to come back. If he agrees, he can demote me back out, but he's the authority on that matter here, not Brandon and not you.

My poor management skills are helping where it matters most right now - getting tracks in and recruiting others. I have to emphasize tracks over people skills because, guess what, this project is years and years old and people are disappearing left and right. Not all of us are happy waiting 5 or more years for their work to be justified.

If you have suggestions for how I could improve as a manager in a reasonable context, I am more than happy to hear them and execute them - I will do anything that is beneficial for the project, but Rozovian and the project itself are my masters, not you. If you have a problem with me as a person, which is most likely what your criticisms are deriving from, take it outside this forum. There is no room for drama as we get this accomplished. I want tracks in, no drama and no bullshit. If that makes me a poor manager, so be it, but take your drama outside.

It's pretty hard to be humble about a shortcoming when one does not know what the specific shortcoming is. "Pushy" does not count because, again, that's my job and it's what I have to do for the project.

Again, self-evaluation with how you respond with an unrequited amount of vitriol to any person who you have the slightest suspicion of trying to do something bad/negative is something you need to do, especially when you're not innocent of those very same actions. It appears you don't consider how your actions affect other people, and that's a fundamental failing which can drive people away.

You are not helpful. I don't even know what you do for this project if anything. Brandon at least contributes some genuinely awesome music and for that I'm willing to give him some benefit for his opinions.

Your entire thing here is based on past vitriol, something I've made an effort to largely stop doing for the past two years. I can't say with any authority I've stopped doing it entirely, but my days of doing that at the drop of a hat have been over for some time.

You should know more than anyone, because you stick your name and nose obsessively on every project that comes to light, that management on an OCR is more than just dealing with people socially. We don't do exclusivity on this track, so having two mixes of it on the project (or three, or more) is perfectly acceptable, as long as the project doesn't become Songs of Hope Isolation Pray. If you wanna finish your wips, feel free, and if they fit the project, we'll take them. (But we do prefer to get unmixed tracks mixed, you know.)

If you know of any, and I do mean ANY, videogame sites or music places where we could successfully submit a press release or anything else pointing potential fans to the remix release, post it here! Seriously, it's a cool idea, and best handled with some subtlety. Posts like "somebody remix this" will probably do better than "dudes, ocremix is making an sd3 remix album".

Or were you talking about messages actually made towards some ARG thing, secret codes and multiple-site stuff? That would be great to design and execute, tho I would rather work on tracks to get a complete album done sooner. And the teaser. Waiting on a little more art atm, gonna start picking tracks for it after that.

Do we really need a slogan? Seems kinda... I don't know how to not say "beneath us", but that and the Youtube suggestions just don't seem to fit the project to me.

Definitely based on what we're learning from the Mega Man X thing, we need to offer something far more straight-forward and mature. No gimmicks and no spamming Youtube videos (trust me, people see through that shit pretty easy) and let's rethink the slogan thing.

Mostly what I've been working toward right now is getting a list together of videogame places online and maybe print where we can submit a press release, post, download link, etc. I asked Larry where they would be submitting it so I don't get redundant, but I want to use every single decent musical and videogame outlet we can find and get a do-to list together for it. Import/ROM/RPG places are going to be key since Seiken Densetsu 3 still isn't nearly as well known as Secret of Mana.

That's where I'm sitting on it right now, any thoughts?

On the Youtube idea, I can't say I like it. Imagine if you posted your game track or remix on Youtube and everyone else who was working on a remix project wanting attention was posting "Hey guys, check out MY remix at..." or "You guys want to listen to a REAL remix? Check out my remix at...". I see it and quite a bit of "viral" marketing on Youtube and Reverbnation and such. It's pretty obnoxious and no one on Youtube responds well to it.

There are better, more dignified ways to market and even viral market this album and I think we should be exploring them instead because, insanely immature drama aside, this is a really dignified project we're putting together.

Don't let that stop you from brainstorming and throwing ideas out here. I don't mind a slogan at all as long as its good and fits, I just don't think we'll need one.

Brandon, and by extension, Wesley, I shouldn't have much against the two of you either. I SHOULD be friends with the two of you and I have tried to do so.

However, I cannot allow myself to take responsibility for your problems with me, for their own individual reasons, and I CANNOT allow it to spill into the project here. Both of you are project directors, I'm pretty sure you would not appreciate me coming into your project and starting drama out of left field to undermine you and make an already difficult volunteer project even more difficult.

What you fail to understand is I do not have a position of power in this project. I'm not the project equivalent of a general or a prince or anything - I'm a servant. I make none of the policies for this project, all I do is make them happen by any means available. This has been a particularly difficult project for the standards set before it, it is not as popular a game as others we are remixing, and because many key people we have needed have flat out disappeared. For those reasons and more, progress is slow and very difficult.

So the newest obstacle was last week and it scared the hell out of me. My Grandma right now is going through breast cancer AGAIN. My wife has a heart condition that is disabling. One of my cousins died from Huntington's Disease. Our family spread out between me and the missus have Malaria, disabling stroke, something on the lungs, diabetes and missing a ***damn leg.

Through this I have continued work for this project for 3 years and more. Now I have my own health crisis to be concerned about and THIS is what I get in response?

"Sounds good to me."
"Your management skills are poor."
"Go back to pooping blood and let the real men, etc."

So maybe I won't be too far out of line when I ask you cut me a little bit of a break, please.

I'm not trying to write a sob story here, but I think the two of you do not understand whats going on here, which has fueled this drama, which is negatively impacting the project. I cannot have that.

Your apology is accepted, Brandon. No one's telling you to leave or not do anything else with the project. You really are a talented workhorse that I envy but this has to stop. This is not about us, it's about the project and we're so close to finish it, it hurts. There is no reason to let personal shit get in the way of completing an awesome, dignified triple album that should be OCR's pride and joy.

That's what I have to say on the matter and it is closed. Let's move on now.

Finally got a hold of Usa and he has signed our consent form. We're also going to put his Faith Total Machine remix back up. I need to find a guitarist to do a lead section and I'm trying to see if my brother can do it, but thats all thats missing there.

I've also helped finish up Karth's Powell remix, so we should have a shitload of new Blue tracks in soon.

Progress checkup in a few days. I wants updates, preferably as wavs. I'm satisfied with my own track's progress this month. Not quite as much with my collab. Time to do something.

Also, there are still available tracks. It'd be awesome to have an electric piano lullaby thing based on the Sleeping tune (#65 on the rsn), maybe with a jazz flavor and some weird chord things that jazz musicians love to do. Or maybe a world-music-infused rock take on Strange Medicine. Or why not a funky, scratchy thing based on Black Soup? Just some idea, just do something fun and in keeping with the project direction with the tracks. Come on ppl, so few tracks left, we're almost done. :D
