Nice work, hudson! The choral snippets seemed a little loud compared to the rest of the mix, no other serious problems that I noticed. Lots of variety; smooth blend of orchestral and rock stuff... solid mix.

I like this mix, but I'm glad I got a hold of the "Clean" version a while back.

I must say, I like this without the guitar much better. Still a very nice ReMix.

Plus, I'm a sucker for the FFX soundtrack, so this makes me happy. :D

Cool- although perhaps we're pushing the ratio of original to remixed material a little too far. This is borderline "original piece that uses a videogame audio sample" unless I'm missing something.

But nonetheless- an enjoyable listen.

The other one is a member of a very prestigious fanclub. :D

Anyway, I heard this some months ago and I agree with some of Israfel's comments on the mix. His reaction was my first reaction as well. To be brief, I enjoyed this and jared already knows my thoughts on this. Very good work regardless. 8)

Same here. Even though it sounds nice? Could it be one of those background minor themes?

7/10 Pretty good, but the Hymn of Fayth is kind of a gimmick. The rest is made up of not so great samples, and I too cannot dechiper what song this is a remix of. It's still fun to listen too.

Okay. I just beat the game right now, to double check, and checked a few of the cinemas as well.

Considering the Hymm of the Faith is mostly a Gregorian chant, anything added to it would be to embelish on the theme of the chant.

BUT, that being said, yes this tune has a lot of improvisation, but it's definitely a ReMix of the Hymm itself. At least to my ear.

You can hear the MUSIC, not the chanting, going with the beat of the chant. The rock guitar playing those hard riff over and over again is pretty much just like the game... except it's a rock guitar.

It's also similar to the beat and rhyme used in the scene where Yuna does the Dance in Kilika. It's ALSO similar to the rock remix of the tune in the game itself when you fight Yu Yevon. The beat is also similar to the scene in the ending when Yuna's doing the dance on top of the airship and the aeons are disappearing.

Now, disregarding all that, am I the only one that's noticing the solo guitar used in this piece often plays alongside the Hymm itself? To the beat of the Hymm?

So, we've got the Hymm in the piece, the riff guitar and drums that sound like it's part of the piece, the piano which goes along with the beat and the solo guitar...

Am I missing something here?

I really like this remix, especially because I had just been A) Preparing to make a CD of VGM that focuses on a more electric guitar/rock theme, and B) Posting in another thread how much I loved the Hymn of the Fayth and how disappointed I was that no one had made a remix of it. I've enjoyed Hudson's stuff in the past, and this one certainly didn't disappoint me. Excellent.

This remix is great it's hard to say much that's bad about the samples and everything (except for the awkward string accompaniment at the beginning). I guess my beef with it, and my beef with hundreds of mixes of its kind, is when remixers create works so tonally ambiguous and so content void that you could virtually stick any melody inside it and immediately that melody is enhanced with a kick ass accompaniment. This is a great piece, but I would hardly qualify it as a "remix" considering that except for a short guitar accompaniment, all the supportive content is completely unrelated to the hymn of the faith in my opinion. I know I'll be greatly disagreed with by many and that's ok. But, cut out the hymn of the faith sample, and throw in whatever you want...Mario's dungeon theme, final fight's continue melody, even something from tetris maybe, and some would say, "Wow! This is the greatest remix of this game ever!" which I think is just kinda sad. I wanna hear full themes, motifs, developmental material, modulations, just anything that says...here's what I got when I took the hymn of the faith theme and did "this" to it. I think this piece straddles that border a bit on the far side.

Download. Now.

Do it.

This is amazing stuff from Jared Hudson here. The drums are very good (are they live or just well sequenced?) The guitar, especially the solo, is very smooth. The whole piece just ooozes...that....factor thing which makes me want to listen to this. I don't even know what it is about this track I like, it's just amazing.

The hymn itself sounds very out of place in this mix. I really don't see anything musically wrong with it - it just doesn't seem to fit the mood that the rest of the music sets. Otherwise, ths mix is fine.

This does not sound like an Overclocked Remix to me because it is too original. I had a difficult time picking out the original here. This simply sounds like an original work with some traces of choir. Really - I do not know why this is on this site. If this is on this site many other good works like E-Bison's Suikostep and others in Works:Other should be.

I love this ReMix. It's got exactly the mood I can envision a summoner going through when he or she summons a Final Aeon.

That said, I also have some more to add. One of my favorite deleted remixes from this site, "OpenItUp" (a Chrono Cross "Scars of Time" remix), was accused of stealing the original track and looping a drumbeat over it. (Which they did, but that's not the point.)

This does the complete opposite of "OpenItUp"; takes a sample from the original, and puts it into a song before improvising like crazy around it. I think this is brilliant work, top-notch quality, and very original; I love the segue from classical to rock accompaniment around 1'58" or so.

well the reason it seems like an original with added guitar solos and FFX hymn is because, essentially, thats what it is. i'm the original guitarist who worked on this track with jared and saw this piece develop from a writhing sonic fetus :). this was an original track by jared which transformed magnificently into FFX goodness as an excuse for a collaboration between mr. hudson and myself

what can i say? i am awfully bias in reviewing it: it is the sickest tune on this site, right now, hands down. let's just say, it takes a drummer to write drums that good. the strings are used exquisitely and the piano that assists the track down from its peak and through the breakdown is smoooth... very VERY smooth. altho i would have preferred the tone-fiend approach i had in my takes on the song, the guitar was extremely well played and well arranged (for the person who mentioned it, yea, its playin along the hymn rather than the original) - that last solo is GOLDEN. and the production is what we've come to expect of hudson studios.

all in all, an excellent piece regardless of how much vg is in it and how much of it is jh

Wow. I like this. The 'chugging' guitar beat really, really works, and the way the chorus, guitar, and orchestral bits weave together is well done. There's a section, around 3:00, that kinda loses the 'feel' of the piece...'cause the guitar is dropped. Other than that, very nice. The weakest parts are the choral bits...you can tell they've been altered.

This is an excellent song. Slightly on the minimalistic side for certain sections, but still quite strong with the melody. Instruments/samples are top notch. Very cool feel to it; part symphonic, part rock. This seriously could have been put in the game, and would have worked excellent during the battle with...(SPOILER): Jecht (who also happens to be the final Aeon), as both the guitar and orchestra parts go well -- this would have worked SO much better then what they did use, Otherworld (it was better off just in the intro). The 0:00-1:08.5 part could be like a pre-battle cutscene music, and the 1:08.5-4:35 could be the battle music (with it looping as necessary). But enough about that...

Anyways, this is not what I would qualify as a ReMix, as technically the only original part that is referenced (being in essence just a vocal sample) is taken intact. Also, I don't know what people are talking about when they say everything goes along with the Hymn, because Jared himself said that the tempo of the Hymn was modified to go along with his stuff. The only actual part that supports the Hymn is 3:38-3:54. So, I wouldn't say this is a TRUE ReMix, but it's very awesome nonetheless.

Great Job, Jared! :D

so dramatic, i can feel the sweat dripping from the ends of my fingers, this wold've made an excellent final battle theme for FFX.

regardless, i still fail to tell what track this is from, i bet i'll figure it out eventually.

Wow. To be blunt, this is like what One Winged Angel theme was to the simplistic Sephiroth theme in FF7. It's like Jared turned a normal run-of-the-mill theme then turned it into a final-boss theme. It does indeed sound like a professional work.

The usage of the voice samples from FFX could have been used a bit more, but there's ample amount of them to remind us that this is a FFX remix and not an original orchestral work though there's some original tunes mixed in here.

Nothing too jaw dropping, but I'm VERY impressed that Jared even bothered tacking the challenge of remixing a music in FFX, which wasn't exactly melody-heavy (As the little vocal piece shows.. that's one of the most memorable melodies in FFX in my opinion.. that says a lot about memorability of FFX's music.)

Impressive.

I'm normally sick and tired of seeing more FF remixes, but this remix is a welcome addition!

The timewarping on the voice samples sounded a bit odd to me but they do fit nicely. The comments from zykO were right on. The drums, the piano, the guitar, all exquisitely done :D

Nice arrangement, worth a listen even for those poor 56k souls :) As noted before the Hymn of Faith doesn't always seem to coincide with the rest of the arrangement. I think that this is because the greater part of the arrangement is very tense, dramatic, with brooding chords. The Hymn of the Faith, on the other hand, is a song of peace, hope, and mourning. The first half of the Hymn, when it goes up, is good... but the second half, when it goes down, could use some tweaking. EDIT: Now I think on it, the contrast I mention there is fitting for the mixed emotions of the final summoning, but as a musical piece it makes it kinda wonky.

What might be done is to either tweak the pitch of the sample from the game at a single part, perhaps the ending note or the highest note of the Hymn, when the hymn occurs at 1:37, 3:07, 3:48. The ones like at 2:40 are fine, as they kind of lead in to the next repetition. Or perhaps rather than tweaking the actual sample at those points, you could use your own vocal synth/samples that sound very similar, putting them in at the same time to form different chords at key points that fit more with the mood. That would probably be better, actually... I would also suggest varying the volume of the Hymn.

As far as the rest of the arrangement, right on! 1:16 this synth or guitar is wonderfully down-played, but adds a lot of feeling. I suppose I could go into detail saying that this is good and that is good, like the bells at 2:38, or just a bit later at 2:58 the really quite cymbal swishy that is heard a lot in this song. Suffice to say, if I don't make little suggestions, I think it can't be any better :)

I think I might be the only person in this thread to blatantly go as far as to say I don't like this.

First of all, the standard story so far complaint - if this isn't Hymn of the Fayth, then I have no clue what it is, and I only would have been able to tell that it was said Hymn from the sample (which fits strangely well, but gets semi-repetitive after the third time around) taken from the game. This has more feel of an original - granted, it does stick to a basic theme, but that basic theme hasn't even been touched, it's direct from the game.

For the rest of this post, I consider this song to be an original.

The beginning is beautiful. It's the one part of the piece I enjoy. Up until the swoop at 0:44, it's a great piece. I love it. I'd love to see the rest of the piece be orchestral. The guitar somewhat turns me off - maybe because it sounds conspicuously like Metallica's "No Leaf Clover", and it's only two chords that clash with the hymn when it first comes in at 1:30.

The string solo at 1:43 is nice, but it's so *random*! Where does it come from? It branches out of the Hymn, which is so simple, and then just goes ballistically out of control, which the piece never does again. The guitar solo after said string solo fits, but again, those two same guitar chords with an overuse of distortion underneath make a return appearence.

It reclaims my interest again at 2:39. I love the melodic percussion - sounds kind of like a glock with the reverb reduced. Up until 3:13, it's great. No complaints.

Something about the key change at 3:19, along with the piano solo over it throws me off as well. The repetition of the hymn is kind of strange, but the guitar following it enhances it.

3:54 is where it all comes loose for me. If this is going to be a guitar solo, it should not be in the background. The combination of whatever effects besides distortion and the low volume render it hard to hear the excellent guitar work (kudos to the guitarist!), and the hymn playing over the guitar makes it even worse. The slide at the end from the guitar works, but the piano chord at the end leaves a sense of non-closure, as if there's something to follow it.

Overall, good piece, but way too random for my taste. Could be just personal preference, but even with all the arranging done, I'd consider this more of an original than a remix, and without the hymn, I'd consider it much better. Excellent guitar work, though, however undershadowed it is.[/b]

I really like this peice, it is good to hear a great FFX remix. Some people say they cant find out which song it is a remix of, and i partially agree with that. BUT, even though i cant name a particular song that this is a remix of, this does remind me very much of FFX in general. It isnt a particular melody, but a particular feel and style that makes this remix FFX specific. I really like it. keep up the good work

...wow! This song is really cool! I liked FF X so much that I bought the OST and this song basically seems to be an expansion on to the Song of Prayer/Hymn of the Faith(rather than just a remix of it), mixed with some classical and rock to enhance the replay value. Really cool song. Kudos to Jared Hudson, you get a gold star! :)

I dont think the second part of the hymm really fits. The first part where the singing is rising, i think have that repeated as the music is carried on then when it ends use the second piece of the hymm...umm i have no idea how to describe it so use your imagination.

Wow...what else can I say? This piece was totally awesome! I mean, it seems like either a final boss battle, or the perfect setup for the video before the final boss. You know, something like: "The hero stands before one of his fallen comrades, listening to their last words, on the verge of tears. Then right as the impact sounds the person goes limp and is dead. Then it shows freeze frames of his standing and then when the music starts in quietly it's him marching down the hall, a dark glare on his face, while issuing orders for the others to take their paths. Then right before the bass blast you see him conjuring magic. Then it would cut to a scene on the other side of the door, the enemy troops rushing at it, but then right at the bass hit the door blasts open in a ball of flame, taking many of the troops with it. You then see them all cowering back, and then see the Hero's sillouette against the flames, sword in hand, marching towards them slowly, the flames reflecting in his eyes. Then when the hymm starts, the battle begins!

You know, something like that. Needless to say, the peice rocked!

Huh, I too thought I chipped in on this remix. I listened to it exclusively for like three days when it first came out. Terrific arrangement, great beats (with the crunchy guitar), seemless integration of the vocals, guitar work that's both strong and subtle (like the fade-in at 3:33)...top notch.

Beautiful, well done. The beginning has a kind of epic feeling to it, rather like lotr. The adding of tension is nice, unlike some other people I do like the hymn, the contrasting nature. The guitar though nice, surprised me didn't feel like it fit.
Overall, I love it, good work!

Being a music conniseuir, I particuraly loved the way this remix started out slow and built up to the chorus. The flow and tempo was excellent and my first impression after downloading it was that this ReMix was off the hook.

Throwing in the voice and blending it with the music was very nicely done and I loved the way that it seemed almost natural that the voice should be there. I really look foreward to all of Hudson's work in the future.

i still cannot tell what this is a remix of. in terms of originality though, this piece needs no further deification. the vocal hymn nudges the melody over the border of fantasy, creating an almost apparitional atmosphere of sorts. had the hymn of faith not been the central theme of the piece (as i've been led to believe), it sounds more like something extracted from Silent Hill.

I've listened to this remix so many times I know it inside and out. The pacing is excellent..when the guitar solo hits...It's like the angels that are singing the main theme spawned a heavenly bard to play for them.

The mix of original samples from the game is surely a testament to the original composer's greatness, while at the same time combining it with new content...I just can't say how glorious this sounds. Any words I have would fall flat. It just feels like FFX...it captures the imagination and makes me wish Jared and his guitar playing buddy were part of the original soundtrack.

Very cool, the final aeon has finally gotten its own theme, and here it is! Itīs jamming, thrashing, rocking and at some parts beautiful. Als o that the Hymn of the faith was into this was quite the surprise too, thatīs a meloow song that fits with harps and possible flutes or somethinī, but not guitars!? And the other original tracks, I havenīt heard anything from the other reviewers, but if you think of the name to this remix, I believe it must be either the final battle music or the music to the battle with aeon-jecht. Or maybe itīs both, both of them kicks, so the result combining them could surely become this thing. Impossible? Not for Jared Hudson. Great work!

Of all the FFX remixes available, this is by far one of the best I've heard. I like how it has that very epic feel to it and actually has a theme of it's own and does not mimic any of the tracks in the OST (That I can think of anyway), with the exception of the Hyme of the Faythe in the background but that is not dominant enough to make it the theme of the song. Very well done.

Let me start by saying this mix is sic....

The intro is nice, i can see Yuna, Tidus, and my other, Luna walking into a temple as they come face to face with Sin. :40 i can see them getting ready to fight. Slowly Sin comes alive 1:09 the first blow is given. Blow after blow. One after another. Then 1:30 Yuna summons. 1:42 the first Aeon comes down. 1:57, lets say Bahamut, joins in the fight. One shot after another. Back and forth. The fight continues through 2:38. Bahamut is hit with a fatal blow, so Yuna summons another Aeon, Anima, and the fight continues at 3:26, health potions are used, characters are revived, a brutal fight. Then at 3:53 the tide changes and the last blows are given to Sin, one after another he begins to die. Then at 4:34 the final strike is given.

This mix is one of the best ones on here, by far.

I first listened to this remix about a year ago. at the time I didn't really give it much thought, though I used to come to OC Remix every now and then just to listen to it, as I liked the vocals. It was only when i actually started playing FFX -last week- that I realised how relevant it was. as soon as Yuna first mentioned the words 'final summoning' I thought wait a minute... thats the name of a remix so I came back, six months later, still remembering the name (which I rarely do, even on my favourite remixes here). Suffice to say thats a good thing. I adore this, I love how you've given the hymn of Fayth a more powerful and dynamic feel to it as I felt the original version lacked something - this delivered what I'd been missing. A fantastic remix and the ending couldn't have been more perfect. Wonderful.

This song might give Nobuo a run for his money. Awesome work

This song was definitely one of my favorites when I first joined and started searching around for games I knew, and it still is among them. The choir (which really must've been a lot of work) fits well into the context and adds a whole layer of awesome to a source that deserves it.

Oh, and I blame you if this song starts playing my nightmares.

This remix is one of my favorite songs. I don't care much for the intro, the good stuff for me begins about a minute in. It's weird to say, but this song means a lot to me. I've had this song for over 4 years now and it's certainly on my most played list. It's helped me psych up and calm down, it's just a great mix of a great song. Highly recommended, thank you Jared :)

I really kickass version of the song of prayer, this song has it all. I don't really like the tone or placement (seemed a bit far back) of the guitar solo, but the rest is way awesome. Definitely head and shoulders above most of the produced stuff from the era, and it holds up pretty well these days too.

Great work!
