I was fortunate enough to hear this some weeks ago. This is one of my favorite guitar mixes I've heard at OC. Wonderful work Vig. 8)

excellent jazz phrasing, awesome tone and a very well thought out arrangement of the original, i think.
i especially like the way it flows between 1:30 and 2:00 - brilliant trot into the solo which incidentally is craftfully played - reminds me at parts of lee ritenour and at other times like a morose santana... europa-like... i'm not sure how to characterize this tone but it is brilliantly used (despite being a standard acoustic/clean tone combination, it still stands on its own two feet regardless and manages to offer something slightly unexpected but difficult to pinpoint..)
good work, bro

Very nice indeed. I can definetly hear the Metheny influence in the playing and the arrangement. The quasi-latin feel that starts up around 1:15 is just beautiful. I only wish I was a little more familiar with the source material.

I really dig extended improv stuff, so this was right up my alley. Keep up the good work. :nicework:

Finally, a mix worthy of the download time.

Just when I've all but given up on this place, I hear a song that restores my faith in some of the people here.

I tip my imaginary hat to you man. very nice work.

I'll definetly be saving this one.

This is one high quality song. Usually I don't keep songs from games that I haven't played, but this one is a five-star exception.

EDIT: What do you mean, "download times"? I would say that bad download speeds are more indicative of the quality of your ISP, and not OCR's servers.

Very very very nice. This mix is so incredibly smooth, amazing work Vig.

Every once in a while a song shows up here that just stops me in the middle of whatever I'm multitasking...a song that reaches through my conciousness and refuses to just be BGM. I have to agree that this is one of the finest guitar remixes I've heard on the site (and there are some VERY good guitar mixes here).

Keep up the good work, I'll be listening for more.

You know, I've always loved chillout music. And this here fits the bill perfect. God damn this is an awesome remix - the guitar is played fantastically, its got an awesome atmosphere and mood to it and what else can I say? A fantastic guitar remix, great to listen to during a sunset.

There is at times clipping though, but the pure sound quality that caresses my ears and makes out with them with el passioné more than makes up for it.

Awesome, awesome stuff. Congrats, Vigilante!

One Word ReView: Chilllllllll.

it's really nice to hear something different at OCR. I haven't heard Metheny, but i'll be checking him out. this is only the second OCR mix i've ever completely liked so much I had to comment on it, and I haven't even played MGS:2.
excellent work.

Excellent rmx, very atmospheric and moodsetting. I had this on repeat while I was driving today, just cruising and it was so relaxing and everything around me seemed to go in slow motion - it was quite beautiful! I would have liked to hear more of the vocals though; it really works very well!

If you check my Listen-To.com history, I looped this one for quite a long time, and everyone I know who's heard "May Fortune Smile Upon You" has been interested in finding out what this was.
As a bonus, it's excellent background music when you're with your lady. Blends in perfectly. Not much more for me to say other than :incrediblyexcellentwork:, Jesse!

This is great, being a guy that loves techno alot, I'm happy that some still don't make techno/dance/trance(whatever). This is very chill as said before, and the guitar playing is very smooth, I wish I could play like that.. Maybe I will try in the near futur, but for now, I'll stay with my electronica, cause I cant make anything good in acoustic/rock/whateverelse, without being able to play live, or pay a bunch for samples. But, anyways, This is a song I can loop and sit around with my girl and chill. The vocals flowed nicly I thought, it added a lot to it. Alot more immotion and heart, what music is really about. If you can make someone feel happy, sad..etc. You've done a good job, wheather its elecronica or chill guitar stuff.

Well, I'm keeping this one...even though I dont remember where the heck its from.

One of the best acoustic mixes I've heard. Smooth, excellent quality, and a great song to listen to while in the rain. The ending of this really touches you, as you get lost in the atmosphere for a long period of time-then it all mellows out and summons up all the emotion into the guitar. Wow.

Being a fan of Vigilante and his work on both the Zebesian Midnight and his other Metal Gear Solid Remix, I had high hopes for this song. I'm glad to say, those expectations were well met. Great song to listen to while you write a paper for English.

Boy, um, right now I feel sorta awkward. I mean, I love this mix a ton, and I'm not normally the kind who falls for intentionally expressive songs such as this but right now I feel a huge urge to praise this song. At the same time, I also feel like any words I spout will just be totally unnecessary. So um yeah, this song is great.

ive only ever writeen two reviews in my time here at OCR, this song, and Liquid Metal... I can not explain how I feel about this song, just simply amazing... as with Liquid Metal I just sat in silence, both ears open and mind totaly washed... that 1:20 min mark is impossible to describe, I love this song. Vig, you are one hell of a guy, please... please, keep making music

one complaint. ONE HUGE COMPLAINT!

you started speeding up the tempo at the end. ::grins:: i could easilly listen to another couple minutes of the mix having gone up tempo. but theres always the OC remix cap and stuff.

anywhos, very mellow, nice to zone out to. is making my next cd i burn. kudos, two thumbs up.

This is the win - very clean chill music, very human and slightly off-time performance. I dig the added depth and atmosphere of the vocalizations. The change in tempo at the end keeps the song interesting for me.

The first time I heard this I wasn't really too keen on it.

But now, after repeated listenings over a span of a few days I can say it really grew on me. This song is indeed no less than a true masterpiece.

Nice work.

Did Pat Metheny suddenly pop in a mix on OCR? I almost thought he did! My brother and I were listening to this this one and we just looked at each other. We both said the same thing: "Damn..."

Nice acoustic representation of one of my favorite MGS2 songs and this one was deep. So much feeling in it and since I felt so compelled to have that flow in my home, it was looped on my stereo for five hours! I almost want to cry over the goodness...almost.

Really I don't know how to describe this song. If you sit down, alone, and listen to this song it's as if every emotion you experience is there. It's almost like the melody of life, as strange as that may sound. It's an indescribable song, a total masterpiece. I don't want to get bashed by anyone but I've never played MGS2, so I never heard this song until I downloaded this 'remix' but it was the most awesome thing I've ever heard. Personally I listen to a lot of rap music, but even on my rap CD's, I include this track. It's amazing. I think everyone should hear this song, should have this song. It's a great song that totally relaxes you, and engulfs you with a sense of understanding, and gives you a chance to think about the things that really matter, and gives you a chance to take a perspective look at the things that happen in your life. This sounds like a really deep review, but this is a very deep song for me personally. I wish I could shake the hand of the mixer, Jesse Taub. Total masterpiece.

This song really calms me down while inspiring me at the same time. I have heard many songs where the artist lays down vocals and it simply ruins an otherwise great song, but this... this is the epitome of how it should be done. But that's not even the majority of the song, everything is just oozing with flavor and attitude, and I can't get enough of what all has come together here, thanks for this most badass interpretation, Vig.

Simply beautiful. I'm glad someone did a remix of Fortune's theme, it was just asking to be remixed since the first time I heard it. Awesome guitar, very peaceful, great work!

Calming.. I listen to this mostly when I'm heavily stressed about something, and it always hits the spot. A perfect combination of a soothing solo electric guitar backed by an acoustic guitar, creating a perfect background. The length is perfect, and the vibe just lets you drift off to another place for a little while.. Sometimes I just close my eyes while listening to this, and it's enough to get me out of a bad mood after having a less-than-decent day. The speeding up at the ending is a great way to end the mix, and sort of gives you a chance to snap back into reality before the song ends.

Very soothing. Whenever i need to think about something or just slow down, this song is great. It's perfect for reflection and the sound is not oppresive in the least-- it just sits in the background and lets you drink it in. I don't mind how it meanders at all, mostly because while you listen to it that is what your mind is doing. Like DJP said, it kind of wanders, but with focus and direction. Just like a thought pattern. Really nice work, Vigilante.

i felt the ending could've been elaborated on more...not necessarily into a climax, but just half a minute or so more build up. as it is it creates tension that was otherwise absent but the sudden stop is disappointing.
otherwise, not bad. very pat metheny

No less than an OCR masterpiece. I'm amazed every time I hear a Vig track at how he manages to put out tracks of such consistently superlative quality.

Darn it, Vig, come back and do another ReMix. We need more!

Beauty in simplicity. It definitely meanders a bit, but the MGS series melodies tended to do so on their own anyways, so it fits in my mind. Backing vocals helped mix it up, and the length was just about right. Good stuff from 2003, right here.

Good lord. Uber quality. This is perfect summer listening.
The guitar work is pretty masterful; the moods and vibes and feelings that it stirs really encapsulates the listener. I love it. So much emotive playing comes out of nowhere without warning.
Subtle in some ways, sexy in others... but always superb. A more laid back affair than the usual technical powerhouses. But this is no less impressive, both technically and in overall enjoyment factor. I'm suprised at how big a fan I am of this one.

Looking back, I just want to say that this remix has been one that has stayed in my playlist for years, and it never gets old for me. The mood this song creates is perfect for reflecting about anything, and somehow reminds me that there are beautiful things in life even if we can't see them right now.
