Yo yo, peoples. After eating some delicious sushi like a gaijin American pig-dog and drinking some el33t Goya peach nectar (oh, that shit is GOOD), it's time to run down what we played tonight. I gotta thank Species for tonight's show recording, assuming everything went down alright, since he did have to go to sleep while it was recording.

Thanks to SgtRama for the brand new bumper, which I luckily saw just before I left for the studio. I was able to get that into tonight's show for the INSTANT GRATIFICATION, so thanks again to Doug for the hookup. We certainly have a great amount of bumpers for the show, and I will host them all at some point. We're at 17 bumpers. Maybe the magic number is 20.

Thanks to all the new people who came by to check out the show today on this special weekday edition of the show. A lot of them, including Carbunk1e, were from AnimeRemix, or they were Suzumebachi's friends, and it's good to have fresh faces checking it out. Over the course of the night, we must have had around 35 different people in and out of the chat, so it was really productive, despite the late time. Check out what everyone was yakkin' about with the VG Frequency AIM chat transcript (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20%2311.5%20Chat%20Transcript.htm).

Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and the show, and I hope many of you can turn out for next Saturday's show, which will be the last before Thanksgiving. No show during the holiday. I'm eating turkey. The playlist below isn't quite turkey, but it's certainly satisfying nonetheless:

Dammit. Missed anoterh show! I'll be there this Sunday I will I will I will
You better be, Henry! [mean face] Hahaha. But yeah, try and be there if you can. Considering I've been focusing extra attention on my classes, I haven't been around all week, so I haven't laid out too many things for tomorrow night. I'll be working on getting everything ready, but for now, I'll quickly point out what I'm planning to go with so far.

1. FFmusicDJ will be this week's interview, so check him out on the air addressing a host of topics and also see what Haroon's got cooking, including his latest remix of original music, Delerium f/Sarah McLachlan - "Silence (Hap Club Mix)".
2. Just to play it properly after last week's metaphorical burp, I'll be playing the dope original track once again from The Black Lodge, "Summer '99".
3. Considering OverCoat's disdain for Nobuo Uematsu, he's nonetheless got an interesting take on a Final Fantasy 6 track, and it's not one of the over-remixed ones either. Check out "The People of the Ruined World".
4. Destiny's recent Chrono Cross collab with zyko "Dragon's Prayer: The Blackened Desire" is her first remix available on VGMix2...
5. ...We'll be checking that out, as well as the revised version of Helen's original vocal track "Fly (Your Heart Is Young)".
6. For those of you who enjoyed Shariq calling in last Saturday, DarkeSword will allow us to check out an original Shakesperian theatrical piece that also happens to be his first-ever paid composition (*cough* $5).
7. Courtesy of JigginJonT's request, Pixelated serves up some somber, explicit Zelda 2 prose-style action with "Crying Alone in the Darkness".
8. It's not an easy task to get a remix of yours into the Stuff of Legends on VGMix. Only 2 have managed to get there and STAY there. kLuTz has managed to do just that, and we'll be taking a listen to his new Final Fantasy 1 town theme remix "Simple Joys".

It's all good. Was there ever any doubt? Be sure to check everything out Saturday night, 10 PM - 12 AM EST. The link's in my sig.

I guess as a request, but mayby not for tonights show. I havent found it on a site yet, so i dont know who the remixer is. But I found it on Kazaa, as "End of Time Jazz" from chrono trigger. Its a cool song sdo you should check it out.
Also will the chat room be the same name as before? Remember last week when aol was being gay and i kept getting booted from the room. So if that happend agine tonight i just wanted to make sure I could get myself back in instead of being a hassle to everyone.

Blake
11-22-2003, 11:11 PM
Is it a remix of a chrono trigger song? Cuz I think I've heard that same song off Kazaa before, and it kicks total ass. THe one with the trumpet and the harmon mute right? *goes to download*

Liontamer

I won't play a song unless I have the proper artist, title, album & copyright info for it, because I don't want to ever miscredit anything. It's also station policy to have all that information available. If someone managed to find out the relevant info for it, I could play it.

Courage Of Lions
11-22-2003, 11:49 PM
Yeah, your talkin about the right one. That song rules, and not too many people have heard it.
One day i was on napster (over four years ago) and i typed in "videogame jazz" and got a list. End of time jazz was on it. So was darkworld jazz (by gux) but it said DJ pretzel, and thats how i stumbled upon the oc remix. And sence then i've been loyal to this site. hmmm its gone through about 5 different remodels sence then. I remember a golden background that lasted about two days.
I just added that story because i felt i had to type more.

Yeah i've never found who the artist was, but i'll look.

DarkeSword
11-23-2003, 12:25 AM
The really professional sounding Jazz tracks you find of CT are off the Brink of Time CD by Yasunori Mitsuda. CT never got an orchestral AST; it got a jazz one, and 'remix' you're talking about isn't from this site, but from Square.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in this week, although it felt like a diaster for me, since 1) the internet was the most difficult it had ever been on the station computer and I kept getting booted from AIM and 2) someone messed up the soundboard at the studio earlier in the week and made everything ridiculously difficult, including the levels for the FFmusic Dj interview. Species' archive for this show won't be out for a long time, since the levels were all over the place, but next year sounds like a good timeframe for it. :P

Thanks to Haroon Piracha for a LONG :!:, but very insightful interview on a hell of a lot of topics. The gist of the interview focuses on the fact that Haroon has come a long way from both a singular focus on remixing Final Fantasy and a singular focus on trance music. The tracks I played during Haroon's interview probably didn't even register thanks to problems with the phone. I may do a quick show on Tuesday or Wednesday to showcase those properly. Find out what you can about FFmusic Dj's original game work to listen to the broader extent of his work.

The chat transcript is here (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20%2312%20Chat%20Transcript.htm). Check the root directory for a few of Destiny's 2003 tracks, for those of you who really enjoyed "Fly (Your Heart Is Young)". The playlist is below (and I know StationMP3's been dead). No show next week, cuz it's Thanksgiving here in the States...

Can I make a request if it's not too late?

I know I missed the last couple shows (don't ya love big class assignments that take over your life for days on end?), but I'll be there for the final one. I refuse to miss it.

If there's still room somewhere in the show, could you give this MP3 a spin?

Yeah, that same song is here on OCR too, but the VGMix one is louder, cleaner and a bit more refined EQ wise. If you got the space in the show, cool and thanks.

Tonight's the final show of VG Frequency; lots of bueno stuff is gonna be on the air, so if you haven't checked out the show before, be sure to go out of your way for the last one.

We've got a heaping of some of the more recent OC ReMixes with Ghetto Lee Lewis, Spinning Images, DarkeSword, aluminum & Beatdrop.

VGMix is heavily represented tonight with tons of tracks from zyko, Unknown, bLiNd, Dhsu, The Coop, JigginJonT, Blak Omen, OverCoat, Destiny, Midee & Prozax.

SgtRama hooks us up with a Need For Speed: Underground request: "Kimosabe" by bt.

Rayza & OverCoat provide 2 new bumpers. As we come to the end of the year and look forward to 2004, Rayza offers his reflections on the year 2003.

Along with other fresh new mixes available from DarkeSword & OverCoat, there's a heaping of originals with NoppZ, analoq, Juverna, SuperGreenX & Cool Ethan (f/JigginJonT).

Thanks again to Shadow for the OGG mirror he provided tonight, as well as The Coop for our chat transcript (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20%2313%20Chat%20Transcript.htm). Species recording may be pretty iffy, since RealPlayer was messing up for more than a handful of people for some reason. Not a big deal though. I'm really appreciative that he's been recording the shows. Look for MP3 archives for shows 10-13 when I have time to get them from him. Like I was saying in the chat and on the air, I may be able to do a fill-in show on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday as a free-form wrapup show with random mixes being played and a focus done on call-ins so we can chill around. No promises though, since I don't know if anyone else will be giving up their time, plus it's getting to be time for finals.

For all intents and purposes though, VG Frequency is wrapped up. Thanks a lot for all the feedback and "No, don't be over" comments. [smiley face] I'll be doing a nice lil' sentimental post sometime later, and I'll be letting you know the show's status for next semester as soon as I can, which'll be a couple of weeks. Here's tonight's playlist, and thanks again everyone for tuning in:

I'm doing a special finale wrap-up episode of VG Frequency tonight from 10 PM to 12 AM EST, so I'm looking for as many people to be here as possible, as long as it's not getting in the way of finals or whatever else you have going on. The show will have a couple of fresh tracks and some other stuff, but will hopefully be based on call-ins. If you can call in and shoot the shit on the air for a few minutes, I'll be glad to have you on. The number for WMRE is (404) 727-9673. I'm hoping to have as many people as possible call in for a few minutes. Even if you can't make it tonight, thanks for your support throughout the semester, and again, I'll have some final thoughts about the show to post when I have some free time during finals. Hopefully, I'll see you around tonight.

All right, that's it, its the last show... I'm not letting slow connection speeds get in the way of listening this time.

*updates Real Player*

Hopefully by next semester I'll be able to afford DSL. Then (provided that I don't have to work or something) I'll be listening every week.

Listening on a 56k didn't mess it up much! Well, it still messed up, but it did it for everyone so if you come back I no longer have an excuse not to tune in. And I heard your entire interview DCT... sure I heard it about 3 minutes after you did it because of the lag, but I still heard it.

When/if VG Frequency comes back, I'm there.

Yo, folks! I still don't know anything about the status of the show next semester, but again, I'll let you know as soon as I can. In the meantime, here's the playlist from the final show from a few weeks ago. Of course, I would have put it up sooner, but finals were approaching, and I needed to put all of my focus on that. If everything was smooth sailing, I would have snuck into WMRE and did yet another show on the 13th.

Here's the playlist for the VG Frequency finale, or #13.5 if you want to call it that. Thanks to everyone who called in with their well-wishes for the show and the holiday as well. I don't believe DCT actually cut off, but we'll see when Species has the archive available. I'll be hosting the chat transcript sometime later over the weekend:

I found out a few days ago that I will indeed be coming back next semester. You may have noticed in my sig that the next show will be on January 24th, shortly after WMRE has us DJs go back on the air. I really appreciate everyone's well wishes in hoping that I'd be alright and that the show could come back, so I wanted to briefly let people know why the show was in jeopardy before I get to a few things I'm planning to do for next semester.

For those of you who don't know, I suffer from one of the forms of anxiety disorder, and I have a tough time going to classes much of the time (as well as going out to other places that involve strangers). Most of my classes has attendace components or pop quizzes that factored into 25-30% of my grades, and I almost got lower than a C average, which would have flunked me out of Emory. Luckily, I was able to talk to my professors, and in conjuction with me working hard to fight my anxiety interacting with others over the last 2 months, I was able to pull my shoddy GPA this semester to a 2.0 exactly. To be perfectly honest with you, by all reasoning, I probably wasn't coming back. Frankly, it was busting my ass combined with a LOT of luck that's keeping my around, so I don't intend to let things slip so dramatically again. I actually function a lot better meeting new people when I have someone else that knows them as well, which is pretty much the only way I meet other people, otherwise I keep to myself (which is what I generally do every day). Hosting VG Frequency allowed me to meet a lot of new people, thanks to them taking the first step of breaking the ice with me, so the show's certainly been a worthwhile experience. Besides, I don't experience an abnormal level of performance anxiety performing in front of large crowds or doing a radio show, since that's another form of anxiety. Anyway, that's the briefest summary I can give you (instead of an autobiography) of why the show was in danger of ending, but don't worry about me at this point. I don't wanna make a big deal about it, plus I intend to be a lot more proactive in regards to handling my problems now that I've been jolted into action.

Now that that's cleared up, lemme first thanks every single person who's listened into the show, even though we all hate the RealPlayer webstream. We always have a good crowd chillin in the AIM chat room and they make the show enjoyable for everyone, including myself, even when I'm hectically working on things over the course of the program. I'm also glad that loads of different mixers and fans have been able to interact and get acquainted with each other because of the show.

Thanks a lot to Species for archiving the shows every week, which I honestly never expected as a possibility when I first started the show. Everyone, especially the people who have called in for interviews and myself, has really appreciated being able to have copies of the shows to listen to. I can't provide the shows from #10 to the end of season 1 until I go back to school and its high-speed network, so be patient on getting those archives. The holdup is all on my end, and not Species, who always works hard to master the shows and compensate for any problems the stream may have had.

Thanks to all the interviewees and callers who have participated in the show that way. I'm not afraid to say that having people in the remixing community on the air definitely contributes a lot of legitimacy to the show as being something that people involved with OCR & VGMix should go out of their way to check out. For the people I interviewed, I hope I did a good job of being fairly knowledgeable about your works and providing you with relevant, intelligent questions.

Everyone who's made a bumper also kicks ass, especially OverCoat & Rayza. I can't say I expected 21 bumpers instead of maybe 3, so the turnout over the course of the season was great, plus I didn't get a single shitty one. I'm glad everyone who made one had fun playing around with ideas. Keep 'em coming! If you wanna check out all of the bumpers created so far, go over to my webspace here (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20Bumpers) and snag 'em.

Every time AIM Fs up on me, I'm glad I have guys I can count on like The Coop, OverCoat & others to hook my up with the show's weekly chat transcript, so people can look back on how unbelievably stupid we all were. Looking back on show #6, I know we're all going to hell.

And of course, at the heart of the show is the music, so in addition to being glad about playing regular VGM, thanks to all of the mixers who have provided me with material to spotlight on the show. I never thought I'd have a easy time filling up the two hours of my show every week, but once I hit show #4 I was always pressed for time to fit everything in. Everyone's been great giving me the heads up on new material and providing me with SECRET glimpses into WIPs and releases, and Ignis generously hooked me up with free overnight shipping on a copy of FF: The Black Mages, so we're never at a shortage of stuff to play.

Of course, everything's tentative, but I do have plans for future shows, including IMC & BEER spotlights, spotlights on the Psyscapes & ReVamped soundtracks, the H*R interview with the Brothers Chaps, another all-originals show featuring only original music from the VGM remixing community, as well as a show with only regular music tracks picked by mixers. And of course, we'll be pimpin' out video game music and mixers, along with interviews on a regular basis, so be sure to be along for the ride once we get started again next month on January 24th. I may be able to slip in a preview show sometime between January 20th & 24th to kick off season 2, but of course I'll let you know about that. In the meantime, everyone enjoy their holiday breaks, and we'll start back up in no time.

We're getting pretty close to VG Frequency starting back up again, so I'm feeling good on that front. I'm hoping to put up a section on the VGF webpage devoted to the show's playlists, plus I still have some AIM interviews I'd like to get out there down the line.

The current rundown of the Season 1 playlists is coming pretty soon. I'll just edit the post once I host the document. Then you can go "OMG, I've been played X times!" or "WTF, Larry? Play my stuff more often, bitch!" Once I listen to the archives of shows #10-13.5 later in the month, I can provide call-in and interview details for the later shows, but for now you'll just have to settle for a rundown of tracks on those episodes.

If you're not busy now (i.e. if you have yet to start classes yet) and would like to do a bumper/jingle/station identification for the show before Season 2 gets underway, please do (preferably with 3 seconds of silence at the end). I'm hoping for some new blood on a couple of bumpers. If you're down with an interview sometime down the line, let me know as well. There's always room for you and your communist rantings on the show.

Alright folks. We're fast approaching the return of VGF. I'll be doing a preview show for Season 2 this coming Thursday night from 10 PM to 12 AM EST. There won't be any requests, since I'm saving those for next Saturday, the official "OMG Thingamajig" celebrating the return of of the show. As usual, we'll be hanging out in the "VG Frequency" chat room on AIM, so if you're not familiar with the show, hit me up on Liontamer87 to get into the chat. Be antsy no more, sister. The hour approaches. I've got some tracks lined up in general, but I'm going to spend today gathering a few requests. So if anyone has anything they wanna hear tonight, lemme know where to snag a copy and I'll try and get it on the show. The real good stuff is set for Saturday night, which is crammed with new material, and will probably result in me running behind and cutting a few things.

For any new people, please check out the show, and get the details you need from the VGMix VG Frequency thread (http://www.vgmix.com/topic_view.php?topic_id=864&page=1) so you can participate in the chat room and hang with the peeps. We're on the air tonight at 10.

I'm looking forward to finally getting back on the air. Now I can finally get off of hard drugs. It's good to be back.

Thanks to everyone for the great turnout tonight. AIM was being wierd, but a lot of people managed to be around, and it was good to be back doing the show. I thought tonight was an excellent example of a really diverse playlist that people could enjoy, so I hoped you liked the preview show for Season 2. The webstream was being a bitch for Species, so there won't be an archive of it, but hopefully things may look a little bit better for this Saturday. I wouldn't count on it, but Shoutcast is coming as soon as I can get it going. Meanwhile, Saturday's show is stacked even heavier than tonight's playlist with tons of fresh material from over the winter break, so make sure you're around. Yo everyone, we're pretty damn close to the big debut of Season 2 of VG Frequency. There are a ton of tracks on board, and I'll be hard-pressed to fit them all, but I'll do my best. This winter break has featured a lot of excellent material coming out from OCR, VGMix and remixer homepages. Tune in to check out a lot of high-quality stuff from: AmIEviL, Beatdrop, Blue Envy, Dale North, Daniel Baranowsky, DarkeSword, DCT, Destiny, Dev VJ, Digital Coma, Disco Dan, Freemind, Gecko Yamori, GrayLighting, Kevin Stephens, Mazedude, OverCoat, Palpable, Shadow, Star Salzman, SuperGreenX, Trance-Canada & virt, along with new bumpers from OverCoat & zyko.

Bomb ass mixes. Phat original tracks. An AIM chat room with fans and remixers. A milk chocolate radio host. What more do you want??? "A MP3 stream instead of a RealPlayer stream!" Hey, shutup! Tune in tonight at 10 PM EST and check out the first episode of Season 2 of VG Frequency for yourself. It's gonna "non-lousy", I assure you. Ok, maybe not. But I'm still milk chocolatey.

Thanks a lot to the peeps who dropped by to check out the show. Other than the recording going all loopy, and Species going "Nah, it messed up again", everything went off without a hitch. I'll be playing a little less music next week, so I can leave more breathing room for talking and hanging out with the chat people on the air, but tonight was definitely a great show content-wise, with a lot of different genres. Be sure to check everything out next week and tell some more people to drop by. For those of you who were here tonight, I was glad to have you aboard. We'll have a link to the chat transcript fairly soon. In the meantime, enjoy the rundown of tonight's playlist:

Hey, glad to have you aboard last week, even if it was only for part of it. Rectify your mistake by tuning in tonight for this week's show. It'll benotbetter than the fucking SUPER BOWL! Adhesive Boy will be calling in, and we've got enough free time to field calls, so if you wanna be on the air, feel free to come to the AIM chat room at 10 PM ("VG Frequency") and get the phone # from there.

In 2 weeks we'll be having the Valentine's Day show, BTW, so keep your lovey dovey requests in mind, bros and bro-ettes!

Bugger.

Instead? Why instead? It's perfectly restful, and from what I've heard from some vgmix people, getting drunk immediately before is somewhat of a tradition .

Ooh! For the valentine's special, you totally need to contact the PMM people and see if you can use clips from the unreleased vocal version of the Forever Rachel theme! That would be totally awesome... I say 'clips' because they also apparently never recorded a final version, they only have a recording of a practice session. Hehe, they might not even have that anymore, I tracked it down back when PMM had only been out for a few months. Anyway, it's far too lovey-dovey for playing just about any time that isn't Valentine's Day.

Very phat show tonight, with the most people in the chat room ever with 33 at one time. We had people going in and out, but it was nice to nearly break the room with listeners. Thanks to Species for figuring out a way around RealPlayer's crappiness in order to record tonight's proceedings. I'll get some older episode archives eventually, have no fear bukkake fans.

Thanks a lot to smh, OverCoat & Moose585 for this week's new bumpers, which went over real well with the chat room. Great job, peeps! I really appreciate the effort, so keep 'em coming.

Also props to DarkSword, Danny B & Adhesive Boy for calling in tonight as well as Kaleb Grace for recommending I play some tracks from SaGa Frontier II, which has some excellent tracks. Some older chat transcripts'll be going up soon, soon, soon, so keep an eye out. Also, someone give Succubus's leg a massage; she banged it on her desk, so she's feelin' the pain! Yo yo folks. Just checking in to see if anyone has any requests for this coming Saturday's episode of VGF. We've already got some good stuff on board with new bumpers from BliziHiZaKe & OverCoat, along with requests for funkymuskrat, Electron (Happy Birthday!), OverCoat, JigginJonT, prozax, Beatdrop's latest cut from Final Energy, and TO's winning entry for the People's Remix Competition 8.

Keep an eye out for February's episodes of VG Frequency. On the 14th, we've got the Valentine's Day edition. I'll be looking for requests from YOU, my fair listeners, so keep your suggestions in mind. DCT's already requested "Goodbye at the Airport" by capoeira legend Mazedude, so that's just a quick example of what you'll be hearing. And of course, there'll be tons of lovey dovey songs (VGM, VG remixes & mixer originals) that all have titles with "love" and "heart" and "skank". You know, all the Hallmark buzz words.

Nothing's specifically planned for the 21st, although I'll see if zyko is willing to come on the air for an interview then, since weed's been nice enough to wanna do one. Weed's been doing music for a long time beyond the game remixing scene, and he's gonna be a very interesting guest whenever we have the chance to have him on the air. In any case, it'll be a regular show, but anyone interested in doing an interview, lemme know and I'll be glad to have you on the air.

The 28th will be the big second edition of my All-Originals show, featuring ONLY original, non-game-related songs created by your favorite OC ReMixers & VGMixers, so definitely be sure to be around for some unique cuts right there. I'll be making sure to bug everyone I know to get 1 track per person, and if it's anything like the last show, I'll literally need 4 hours through 2 shows to play everything. Hopefully someone will give up a free timeslot on Leap Year Day this year (Sunday, February 29th), so that I can do an extra show..."THE SHOW THAT NEVER WAS!"

I'm really hoping down the line to have remixers and guys from the community in the Atlanta area (UGA/Georgia Tech) over for a show down the line. I know FateHologram (Justin Zer0/debotron), kLuTz, sephfire & OMG Bagel Fuzzynuts are around, along with Electron who's with me at Emory. Who knows if we can get something like that done, but I'll be seeing what we can do down the line.

That's the plan going through this month my peeps & peep-ettes, so keep Larry Lar in mind and keep tuning in! Lemme know if you have any requests for this Saturday.

If it's obscure or not easily attainable in a game music format, give me a place where I can get it. Like DarkeSword's request, original music by mixers is sweet as well, but don't request anything besides game music, game remixes or mixer originals.

Hello there, folks. Hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day proceedings last night. If you couldn't be out there on some dates and working your mojo, I hope you at least stopped by to check out the video game related festivities over at VG Frequency. This week's episode was cleverly titled "Infected with VD", which is also appropraite given that the Emory network was being extremely awful, so the stream was lousier than usual and I was in and out of AIM every few minutes. Sorry to Species, who couldn't get a recording of the show this week, thanks to Emory's shitty network problem. A whole bunch of people weren't even able to tune in, the connection was so horrendous. If I can, I'll sneak in an extra show during the week to make up for it, provided things are more stable.

Regardless, we had an excellent offering of V-Day-related songs and I'm really proud of the offering we had this week. Of course, there are other songs that could have fit the theme, but we've only got 2 hours, so no complaints. Thanks again to everyone who made requests and everyone who was able to stop by. I was able to hang out and play an hour and a half of extra stuff as well, so thanks to DCT & neminem who hung out a little longer. Thanks to neminem for the chat transcript this week. I'm working on providing the backlog of AIM convos so those should be up soon. Species will also be sending me an old episode later in the week.

Be sure to be around next week, when zyko comes on the air for an interview. I hope the stream becomes more managable next week, because you know weed's gonna be a dope interview. Feel free to ask questions in the chat room or whatnot, as weed's willing to answer all sorts of questions. Without further ado, let's get to the playlist:

I'll be looking to OCR & VGMix to provide me with requests. The first show was a full 4 hours, so we'll see how things turn out for this next one. I'll be doing a seperate thread to ask for requests, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. No need to post right here.

Thanks for everyone who stopped by Friday's impromptu show and hung out, especially Vigilante & DCT for calling in. It was a sweet turnout, and there's nothing more fun then mixing combustible elements like Jared Hudson & Dan Baranowsky. We've got some good stuff coming up for Saturday, but let's get to Friday's playlist first:

Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA)

14. DCT calls in and (despite not being at Mardi Gras) brags about his numerous ladies, as well as addressing his CastleVania 3 WIP "The Gray Lightning", his work remixing DarkeSword's original track "The Alleyway", how he loves the kids, his agreement with "Jamaican Soul" being declined by the OC judges' panel, how he hopes to get posted on OCR with his Sonic 3 mix "Iced Out Nine Twenty Two", bribing the judges in the hopes of getting posted to OC, his upcoming Astyanax collab with GrayLightning "Journey to Remlia", zyko hopefully lightin' it up on the air, and various other topics [http://www.thebigshot.com]
15. The Evil Horde - Megaman 2 "Quick Draw" [OC ReMix #470]
16. Avien - Streets of Rage 2 "Slow Moon Groove" [VGMix1 #1370 / OC ReMix #788]

23. Koji Kondo - "Swimming BGM" [Super Mario Bros. 3 OST]

Don't forget about Saturday's show, i.e. tomorrow. zyko will be on hand for an interview, and (not like I've formally asked or anything), but maybe DarkeSword can briefly call in and give a few words about being appointed to the OC judges' panel, or maybe Beatdrop can call in about his decision to step down from the panel. In any case, weed'll be with the show and taking your questions if you have them.

There's also gonna be tons of other stuff on the show as well, including some of the latest OC mixes, Emporer's winning entry for PRC9, stuff from Star Salzman, Pixelated, Beatdrop, Unknown, Mustin, the "very, very popular" Seifer, Dennis Mott, JigginJonT, SuperGreenX and more, including a few tracks from the Need for Speed series contributed by Dakar (thanks yo). Everything's looking good this week, so be sure to tune into the main show, Saturday night, 10 PM to Midnight EST. The 28th's the All-Originals Show #2; be sure to contribute to the upcoming thread on that.

Yo, folks. Glad to have so many people checking out the show this week, though we unfortunately had no weed at the show! I didn't wanna play zyko's stuff without him being there to comment on it, so I'll be saving it for when weed's available to call in. Maybe we can get something going for sometime during the upcoming week, since zyko's down with that. The "controversy" over the lyrical content of Niggaz 4 Life has become a pretty hot topic over the last couple of days. We'll see what ends up happening, but please keep your eyes open for a possible mid-week show this coming week.

Thanks to DarkeSword & JigginJonT for calling in and providing the mixer entertainment this week, as well as all of the new listeners this week for stopping by. Props to OverCoat & Moose585 for the chat transcript (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20%2318%20Chat%20Transcript.htm) hookups. With Spring Break coming soon and Larry chillin', expect some cool shit to finally see the light of day including comprehensive playlists, AIM interviews & funny VGF chat excerpts up on the VG Frequency webpage.

Next week is the All-Originals show, so if you're a mixer and wanna contribute something, get the layout here (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32659) and submit 1 track of yours for me to pimp. Thanks to Species for recording this week's show. This has actually been the first show, I believe, since Season 2 started that was able to be recorded, since the Real stream blows, but I may be able to obtain the MP3 archive Sunday and get it out there. Now check out the playlist to see what was cookin':

Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA)

10. Masashi Hamauzu - "Thunder Plains" [Final Fantasy X OST]
11. DarkeSword holds it down and gives us the info on how he was notified on becoming an OCR judge, DCT's upcoming remix of his original piece "The Alleyway", his head-to-head race with GrayLightning on getting mixes posted to OCR (Gray cheats with collabs!), how judging has been treating him so far, as well as stuff in the works such a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 orchestral project & writing a score for an original musical based off of one of Grimm's fairy tales, evaluating 2004 as the year of DarkeSword, Ubik & zyko's "Niggaz 4 Life", and ignorant people who don't like the word "nigga" [http://www.darkesword.com]
12. DarkeSword - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Hot Ice" [OC ReMix #1010]
13. Rayza - VG Frequency "Sonic Retard" Bumper
14. Rayza - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Icecap Zone (Frozen Knuckles Mix)" [OC ReMix #474]
15. JigginJonT brags about pretending to be zyko when he called Larry off the air, and talks about winning a battle of the bands contest the previous night with his band that has no name (a.k.a. "Those Guys", a.k.a. "JigginJonT's Jiggin T's"), how the $300 prize money won't be used for studio time, and fends off Larry's wild accusations of using the prize money to purchase a jiggy Escalade or jiggy lowrider [http://pixelated.myrmid.com/users/jigginjont]

Go ahead and pick up shows #16 & #18. Like I said before, #17 is a no-go, and the stream problems have F-ed up 13.99, 14, & 15, I believe. Species'll hook me up with older stuff down the line, as long as the recording was ok. I know Wingy still wants #10 for the bukakke jokes.

Thanks again for the NFS tracks, Dakar. Yeah, definitely keep letting me check out further tracks from the Need for Speed series. Name pimpage shall continue!

I'll be buggin' you soon, Beat. Keep the Final Energy goodness coming, bro!

And everyone, you BETTER be pimpin' the All-Originals thread (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32659) for the special event next week. Don't leave me hanging. I know a lot of you have great material to submit, so be sure to pimp that out!

I know Wingy still wants #10 for the bukakke jokes.

Boo Cocky, the little known ghost from Super Mario Bros. 3, was a subject of great controversy when it was originally showcased in Japan. Like his phantasmal cousins the Boo Didley's, Boo Cocky floats around castles and other, pardon the term, haunts of ruin. Notoriusly shy, Boo Cocky will hide his face and blush a uncannily rosy glow, despite an utter lack of a circulatory system. But, unlike his more G-rated cousins, when the character's back is turned, Boo Cocky unleashes a deceptively potent (and dare I say, traumatic) attack.

Boo Cocky rears up behind the unsuspecting character, an unleashes gallon after gallon of supernatural semen all over the character. The character, in what can only be described as semen-shell-shock, can only stay still in a sort of gooey paralysis. Once one Boo Cocky is finished, more follow, often adding a muffin or "ookie cookie" to the mix for their own inscrutable purposes. Hence the Nomme de Guerre: Boo Cocky.

Well be right back with Video Game Secrets... on the History Channel.

Heheh, lots of good stuff from everyone who posted. I'm suprised Nintendo of Japan never came up with a Boo Cocky ghost for Mario, though knowing the Japans, they probably made a concept sketch and it's an in-joke in their company. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if Wingy and his penchant for bukakke somehow gained employment at Nintendo of Japan. Shit, his mind packed his bags a long time ago! He's a full perved-out Japan!

Mythril suspects that Ailsean is analogous to goatse. Never quite thought of it that way. You know...the whole ass stretching thing. And not thinking about goatse was definitely on purpose. Please use the :nicework: for the internet superstar comparisons in the future!

No prob on the archives, Justin. Thank Species for getting these out with the quickness. zyko didn't show up last week, but weed'll be coming on the air relatively soon, yo. We were talking on AIM about a whole shitload of stuff, and he's absolutely right that he can talk at length about pretty much any subject regarding remixing, music, and the community here, so look forward to a lot of good stuff from weed.

Ha; I'm glad you noticed I played your PRC9 winning track, Emporer. It was my pleasure to listen to it and play it. Keep holdin' it down in Russia. [/Russian pride] Good luck tweaking "Tears of the Lurker" and submitting it to OCR. The track went over pretty well last Saturday, so it has a genuine shot of making it with even further work. Good job yo.

For tonight's show, we're featuring ONLY original (i.e. non-remix) work from remixers, so check out the submission thread (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32659) to see some of the tracks that are going to be featured tonight. I'm gonna be hard-pressed to fit all of the tracks that I have in the space of tonight's show, but if all goes as planned, SGX'll be calling quickly to get out some original pimpage for his upcoming original album project, and DCT'll dropping in for a second as well. Like last year, we've got a great set of original works from OC's finest as well as hot tracks from several up-and-coming developing artists in the community. You'd be stupid to not check things out tonight. DON'T BE STUPID! :P

If you're interested in the proceedings, be sure to be around from 10PM to 12AM EST tonight, and don't forget about IMing me at "Liontamer87" or joining the AIM chat room directly at "VG Frequency". Tonight's all about originality.

Ah, but technically, he DID miss much, Dhsu! For you see, though we did not have the All-Originals show as planned, VGF somehow turned out pretty interesting without much music. Thanks a hell of a lot to DarkeSword, Jared Hudson, SuperGreenX, Succubus & zircon for BAILING MY ASS OUT by calling into the show and providing some much-appreciated interview time, as well as everyone else who provided requests to play over the night. (Except for "Suteki da ne"! :x) I'm sorry I really couldn't get to everyone's requests, but a slapped-together request show might be fun at some point when I do it ON PURPOSE!

Important thanks to my usual suspects, Species for the MP3 archive as well as OverCoat for the chat transcript, both available now at https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji. As you see in the playlist info, the All-Originals show was postponed, since the cord connecting laptop to the radio station soundboard was broken earlier by the incredibly stupid DJs before me. Therefore, I can't stress this enough: stay alert for me doing a mid-week show to cover the All-Originals material; otherwise, we'll do all of that for the next show! Enjoy your playlist, and let's never speak of this again!

Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA)
"VG Frequency" - Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 10 PM - 12:07 AM

0. Simply put, the idiotic hosts of the show before VG Frequency, Bumknuckle & Whoreslice, managed to sever the cord needed to connect Larry's laptop to the radio station soundboard, rendering the All-Originals show planned for this week as a bust, so please enjoy the following impromptu proceedings
1. DarkeSword calls in to find out what's wrong with the planned show and whores his site, sees how Larry's doin', reveals that JigginJonT bought an Escalade, discusses Jeremy Soule's new Final Fantasy 6 mix, inquires about the problems with "Dream Pipe" now showing up on the OCR main page, provides major pimpage on a mix currently in the OC judges' panel (The Bronx Rican's Sonic Adventure 2 mix, "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C."), criticizes Larry's lack of video game playing, plugs the first Totally Awesome DarkeSword Collaboration Remix Challenge and its objectives, grasps to explain how the All-Originals show was postponed, strokes Succubus's intellectual ego, flaunts his Spring Break, and pimps The Bronx Rican again [http://www.darkesword.com]
2. Jared Hudson wants a ShoutCast stream (don't we all?), rags on the show after VG Frequency ("Please Kill Us Now!"), mentions a potential gig through Digital World FX composing music for a classic cars documentary on the Speed channel as well as Abram McCalment's new equipment, laments the difficulties of ragtime composition, confirms the surly-personable paradox of internet personalities, discusses n00b behavior, piracy and artistic development in the game mixing & professional music communities, goes over his troubles with his application to Berklee, feels the need to beatbox, and uses metaphors to make everything better [http://www.hudsonstudios.net]
3. Star Salzman w/Protricity - Megaman X1 "Dreams Come True" [http://www.starblast.org & http://www.public.asu.edu/~arasulin]
4. Paige requests "Suteki de na", and Larry stupidly plays her request
5. Rikki - "Suteki da ne" (a.k.a. 'Isn't It Beautiful?') [Final Fantasy X: Suteki da ne]
6. Paige complains about Larry cutting Rikki off mid-song, while Larry complains over the physiological side effects of listening to "Suteki da ne"
7. The Bronx Rican - Sonic Adventure 2 "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C." [http://www.bronxrican.com]
8. SuperGreenX makes an appearence to advertise his upcoming original album "Synesthetic", explain the promotional differences between his own website compared to MP3.com, talk about fans of his music from the Flash Flash Revolution community, promote his weekly Wednesday night radio show (8-10 PM) on Flash Flash Revolution Radio, and give insight on his musical influences [http://www.supergreenx.com]
9. Disposer & Thumper - Great Greed "The Greatest Greed" [VGMix2 #42 / OC ReMix #1126]
10. Succubus let's everyone know that she's been enjoying the show, and she's feeling the frigid Winterpeg weather while dissing American snow; she's also practicing her New York accent, lets us know about her graduate studies and thesis work involving atmospheric science & meteorology, observes the male pursuit of intellectual women, lets us know about LooneyCall (the Canuck approach to 10-10-220), and highlights the Dakar vs. Succubus debate on what's the better Need for Speed soundtrack [http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~umfisico]
11. Crispin Hands - "Cerebral Plumbing" [Need for Speed II Special Edition OSV]
12. zircon makes his presense felt for SoundTempest.net, gives us the low on how the site's new format for original game music submissions emerged, points out the potential growth for SoundTempest as analogous to OverClocked ReMix's beginnings, mentions attention already coming to SoundTempest from the game development community, makes comparisons of the site and its contributors to Tommy Tallarico's Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.), and speaks about his artistic progression from his first Phantasy Star 4 remix "Motavian Battlefield" to his current one "Final Emprise", as well as the pronounciation of Xelebes, comparisons of community feedback for one's music from VGMix & OC ReMix, and tackling more remixing material from the Phantasy Star series [http://www.zirconstudios.com]
13. Ziwtra - Xenogears "Skyline" [OC ReMix #1038]
14. DarkeSword - "It's Dark Outside" [ReVamped OST]
15. ENCORE: The Bronx Rican - Sonic Adventure 2 "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C." [http://www.bronxrican.com]

Actually...that wasn't Suteki da Ne from FFX. That was some completely different Japanese song, probably with the same name. I still thought it was decent, though. :/

I asked you guys to keep on the lookout for when I'd reschedule the All-Originals show, and Thursday night is that night. So be sure to make it to VG Frequency's 2nd Annual All-Originals Show, this Thursday from 10 PM to Midnight EST. The shows before and after me apparently feature ladies, so if you wanna test the stream and whatnot, feel free to do it at those times.

I may or may not be on this Saturday, as I'll be on Spring Break. When I know what my plans are, I'll let everyone know.

We've got the All-Originals show tonight from 10PM-12AM as well as me doing ANOTHER show from Friday 10PM-12AM, so if you're around, be around where it counts, you bastard.

I may not be doing a Saturday show, so Friday'll be the weekly show unless I post up saying I'll be doing the regular Saturday time. In any case, tune in on Friday as we have a little catching up to do on the latest tracks from the game mixing scene. I'll be featuring the top 3 tracks from last week's People's Remix Competition 10 (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32630) (from Scott Peeples, Mythril Nazgul & TO), and plucking a few tracks from Japanese and European arrangement sites for the hell of it. So over the next few weeks, there may be more Game Over, Grospixels, S.S.H. & R:K:O stuff, for example, to diversify what's on the show. For an example of a Japanese track, check out Lix's CT mix of Sealed Door released a month ago, which I'm hosting for the moment at my webspace (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji) along with Species' archive of episode #19 featuring interviews with DarkeSword, Jared Hudson, SuperGreenX, Succubus & zircon, so don't forget to score that before that's gone.

And if anyone's interested in helping me with live bumper recordings on Friday night after midnight, lemme know, because I'll be tooling around after the Friday night show trying to record promos to VG Frequency thanks to CoolEditPro. I'll also try and finally get something cool over to KyleJCrb for Nitro Game Injection since I owe him a promo from way back.

The All-Originals show is tonight from 10 PM to Midnight on the east coast, so be there to check out all the stuff, and don't forget about Friday night 10 PM to 12 AM as well, when we get back to the regular format. Hope everyone is having a good Spring Break coming up.

We're almost ready for another shot of VG Frequency warmin' you up for Spring Break. Classes are over, and it's time to chill and not do a damn thing. So if you're not leaving for the Bahamas yet, relax with a little internationally flavored VG Frequency. We've got a great sampling of tracks tonight with OCR, VGMix, R:K:O/R64, Live House S.S.H, GrosPixels, as well as the top tracks from the People Remix competition 10. Not bad for a show where I put together the playlist 2 hours beforehand. Hope to see you there.

I wanna give a big thanks to everyone who provided tracks to play for last Thursday's 2nd Annual VG Frequency All-Originals show. Then of course, there was VG Frequency the next day, and all was good. Thanks to everyone who turned out for the special show, which was nearly 3 hours. I'm not even sure where the time went on that, but it was a great show. Thanks to DarkeSword, DCT & zircon for calling in. I'll be providing more thorough details from their call-ins once I get Species' show archive and provide that to everyone. The show ran just a little long, so something like the last 1 or 2 minutes got cut off from Species archive and was lost to the ages! That's alright though: thanks to Species for maxing out his hard drive space just to record the show. Everyone really liked the material for this one, which was a good mix of original game music, the PRC10 remixes, and tracks covering the American, European & Japanese arrangement scenes, so the archive will pimp a lot of good stuff out when it's released.

There were quite a few requests for me to provide people with various tracks that were played or referenced yesterday. Off the top of my head I can think of Digital Coma's "I Make Music", S.S.H's "Holy Orders (Be Just Or Be Dead)" rock mix (a Japanese mix), Lightwarmth's rejected FF9 sequenced piano submission "Messenger in the Key of Black", Lix's CT remix "Sealed Door (Ice Resolute Mix)" (another Japanese mix), as well as the instrumental version of The Bronx Rican's recently posted OC mix "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C."

I'll be trying to provide those tracks as soon as I can for you, especially those Japanese tracks that don't have English tags, so if you see anything you're interested in, lemme know. Enjoy the playlist:

Man I'm bummed I missed the show. Thank Nex for that :P I was playing Halo with him and some other peoples at his house so I couldnt use his computer. Ah well, Halo was fun. By the way, I am one of the worst players at that game since I have played it only about 4 times. But, despite my lack of experience (and being killed every 2 seconds), I enjoy the game a lot. I'll try my hardest to tune in to the next show.

I would have enjoyed the show more if RealAlt hadn't fucked my computer like a 2-bit whore  I won't be trying that program again. It actually made the original Real Player unusable, AND it somehow messed AIM up. It's an abomination... much like that track Paige tricked Larry into playing.

I owe analoq one playing of "demonik elektronik", since I forgot. [shakes head]. Yes, kill me, I played River City Rammstein but somehow forgot to play demonik elektronik, so we'll be having it for the next episode. Vigilante is a penis. Thanks to zyko for calling in this week, which was tight since Waleed and myself set it up about 10 minutes before I left to go to the studio. The cell quality was iffy on the headset, but there was a good reason for that if you stuck around for the stuff after the regular show. With that said, we also had a sick VG Frequency afterparty featuring zyko scaring the young but zealous BliziHiZaKe with his own drunken, high freestyling skills; weed later called in to call Protricity a bitch (even though he's joking, YES!) and make his cat scream, as well as mention what was going on in the middle of his interview (that wily weed blew a fuse). OverCoat managed to have me play God knows what, and even managed to ruin zyko's favorite Beatles song, with hilarious results. Over the next 2 hours, we had tons of random mixes, originals and WIPs with stuff from Dan Baranowsky, OverCoat, zyko, DCT, BliziHiZaKe, Moose585, Hemophiliac, Digital Coma, Saunders and 12 and 1/2 minutes of the bumpers of VG Frequency. Larry went absolutely stir crazy from 2:30 to 2:45 and yelled at GrayLightning without the aid of caffeine over not 1, not 2, but 3 f'ing requests for "Fowl Jive", as well as BliziHiZaKe about fully playing his CounterStrike remix. Bubb Rubb (Whoo Woo!) & Cabbageboy (Donkey Kong!) closed out 2 extra hours of what everyone would call radio stupidity. Anyone that tells you differently, they're lying through their ass. Did I miss anything? Yes, I probably did, but we'll have an AIM chat transcript soon that clocks in at nearly 1MB.

Thanks to EVERYONE who tuned into Larry's binge session of shows for VG Frequency. I'm definitely glad to try my best to entertain the peeps, and doing 3 shows in 3 days with over 2 hours of extra airtime after EACH show is certainly one way of going about it. Give Species some time to get the archives out, cuz he did a lot of work recording 'em on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Also, like I was saying, the WMRE webstream may go down over next week, so there may not be a show next Saturday. Just keep an eye out. But, you know, I think we've all had our fill for the past few days. And with that, I'm out for this week. 20 weekly episodes. Shit. That's a lot of radio...

Yo everyone, I've gotten around to hosting the AIM chat transcripts from this past week (19.5, 19.75 & 20), so check em out at https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji. Show MP3s'll be out eventually. Thanks as usual to Species for the archives and OverCoat for the transcripts. I've also got 2 VGF promos up that you can check out. The "Cool Spot" (#0) promo was just my first stab at recording whatever crap came out of my mouth and then editing it with music thanks to Cool Edit Pro. I won't be using it ever, but it's there. The "Snow Promotion" (#1) promo came out really well, IMO, and I'll be sure to use that when I can. I'll also be trying later in the week to make promos for KyleJCrb of Nitro Game Injection and ravon over at our OC radio station Ormgas!

Meanwhile, if you've haven't heard of the fan game, Beats of Rage, it's Streets of Rage redone with characters and sprites from the King of Fighters series. I haven't played it just yet, but it certainly looks great, and I'll be checking it out. It seems the demand on the game is high, and many of the mirrors are being overburdened so I'm hosting the 53.7 MB ZIP of the PC version of Beats of Rage at my webspace; again - https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji. I'll keep the ZIP up until Species hooks me up with some show archives, but be sure to check Beats of Rage out, and hit up the thread here about it (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=33372) with some game feedback.

Happy birthday to me, BTW! I turn 22 in less than 3 hours.

Aight folks, it's that time again. Tonight's show of VG Frequency will of course feature some of the lastest tracks from around these parts. On VGMix, the Crazy Crackaz All-Starz lit it up with their River City Ransom mix, "River City Rap", and mellogear & zyko continue the influx of rap tracks in the community with "Samus vs. the Monster, FRENCH!" The intrepid men (and no women) of SoundTempest have been keeping themselves busy with regular editions of CompoST, the original game music hour-long compo, and we'll be playing tracks from contests 2 through 5 to give you the lowdown on that. We've got the latest 4 OC ReMixes from Noir, Mark Vera, bLiNd & Protricity.

And on that note, tonight's guest interview is the very soft-spoken Protricity, who'll be talking about a whole host of things including his newst Donkey Kong Country 2 mix, "Forest Birdcussion". We'll also be playing two tracks from DCT, who we all wish the best for on his somewhat lenghty road to recovery. We'll have the chill instrumental version of his Sonic 3 mix "Iced Out Nine Twenty Two" as well as his remix of DarkSword's "The Moonlight Ballroom (1st Movement)" featuring 50 Cent, "In Da Club (Dark Sword Mix)." Tune in, peeps, as it should be another quality show. Be sure not to miss the goings on tonight by IMing me on AIM or joining the VGF chat room yourself at "VG Frequency".

I finally get to go to sleep soon. While I get my ZzZs, head on over to https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji and snag the lastest AIM chat transcript courtesy of OverCoat. I'll be temporarily hosting the 107MB high quality, 96kbps-stereo version of VGF #21 over there as well until Binnie gets a hold of it and helps me out by mirroring it. Thanks a lot to Coma for helping me out there. I'm assuming by the time I wake up, it'll be mirrored, and at that point I'll host the 36MB lower quality, 32kbps-mono version, which actually sounds fairly good nonetheless, especially if you're used to listening to the archives Species helps me with when he's recording the show from our cruddy RealPlayer stream.

Species will still be my backup for show recordings, especially since you KNOW I'll F one of them at some point down the line. :-) Besides, I won't always necessarily have the time or access to just chill in the studio and encode my show right after I'm done, especially on substitution/mid-week shows. Also, take note, when you hear VGF through the RealPlayer stream or Species' recordings, I have to compensate for the deficiencies in the stream system by diminishing the bass and upping the treble to equalize the sound. So, when I record directly from the soundboard instead, those stream deficiencies are a non-factor and thus you get very low bass and dominant treble. The tracks all sound great nonetheless, so please, no complaints in those regards. Besides, with the information in the ID3 tag, you have all the info you need to pick up a track that your enjoyed for yourself.

Thanks a lot to Prot for calling in and giving a quality insightful interview on a shitload of topics. I know Coma and DarkeSword were saying that they prefer when interviews are more informal and off-the-cuff, but I feel that everyone should have at least one interview that's a more focused and informative. Once you get 1 interview out of the way, then, as DarkeSword can attest to because he calls so often, it's a lot easier to shoot the shit and not be as tied down to some sort of structure. I think VGF #19 from two weeks ago, where we had five impromptu interviews, was a great example of that. So if and when Ari calls again, yeah, it'll be a lot looser interview. Pr0t covered everything I wanted to tackle and then some, so I'm glad he stopped by.

Thanks to our mystery callers too, cuz I have no idea who they were of course. Also, again, I'd like to thank all of the new listeners and visitors to the AIM chat room, including LastUnicron, Black Hand, Zeality, k-wix & djpretzel, as well as the people who hung out in the chat room after the regular show was over for the afterparty featuring voting on the tracks from CompoST 6, as well stuff from Unknown, MC & Bloomer, WIPs from Sadorf & Hemophiliac and random OC mixes. I'm always glad more and more people are checking out the show and enjoying the layout, so I hope you guys keep coming back when you can. Now, let's get to the playlist, so I can go to bed:

Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA)
"VG Frequency" - Saturday, March 13, 2004 / 10:05 PM - 12:35 AM

1. Jared Hudson - VG Frequency "Break Loose" Bumper

5. analoq - Doom 1 "demonik elektronik" [OC ReMix #1098]

7. Protricity - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Forest Birdcussion" [OC ReMix #1138]
8. Protricity - Super Metroid "Premonition of Fell Purpose" [Relics of the Chozo]
9. Protricity joins in to go over why he remixes Donkey Kong Country 2 so extensively, the inspiration for remixing in different genres, the original plans for "Forest Birdcussion" including vocals from Star Salzman, his increased focus on sound quality for his music vs. the "need" for quality samples, the impetus for tackling Birdcussion in an ambient style, his mission to remix the entire DKC2 soundtrack, the reason for remixing from other games including the need to have an emotional attachment to those games, his overview of the quality, selectivity & voting habits of the OCR judges' panel, the validity of outspoken criticisms of the judges' standards and their mix rejections (Judge-hate!), how there's no good reason to feel overly insulted by impersonal talk on an internet message board, clearing up assumptions and giving the specifics of his dislike of Jeremy Soule's FF6 mix "Squaresoft Variation" including djpretzel's writeup for it, the negative externalities of professional composers submitting material to OCR, the effort involved in creating the Super Metroid collaboration album "Relics of the Chozo" including disappointment in the lack of participation from the mixing community and how he'd like to see the idea of collab projects thrive within OCR, his dislike of commercialization in the remixing scene, whether there was any difficulty in creating well-varied mixes for his large portion of Relics, how the Astyanax mix "Danger in Remlia" feels like his only personally unsatisfying work as a remixer, his satisfaction on how the Relics project ultimately ended up, various computer projects he's done including "Tank Fight" (beat the game on Hard mode, he dares you!), what aspiring mixers can do to get into the game without prior instrumental or music theory experience, what's potentially next for him on the music/remixing front, and his deep-seated personal hatred of zyko ;-) [http://www.public.asu.edu/~arasulin]
10. Protricity & zyko - Super Metroid "Perceived by Cold Intelligence" [Relics of the Chozo]

15. Rayza - VG Frequency "Sonic Retard" Bumper
16. Mark Vera - Wizardry 1 "Medieval Magic" [OC ReMix #855]
17. "Jim Holland" of OC ReMix (amazing how I've never heard of him...ever) decries Protricity with EXTREME PREJUDICE; Who could that have been? WHO could that have been?
18. Noir - Final Fantasy 6 "Battle Theme (Ivory Metal Mix)" [OC ReMix #1135]

23. Unknown - "Disquieting Deathmonger" [CompoST 3]
24. smh - "Impending Doom" [CompoST 4]
25. "David Lloyd" (a.k.a. djnutzel) brings a feminine touch to the show and let's us know that "video games, they're just video games", that he's "really gay", and "by the way, I'm David Lloyd" before Larry punts him off the air
26. Crazy Crakaz All-Starz (joecam, po!, mp, Roggah, DirectorFlik, Æ & Shael Riley) - River City Ransom "River City Rap" [River City Rumble OST (http://www.x-strikestudios.com) / VGMix2 #1082]

Thanks for the requests, bros. This week, I've been trying to focus primarily on playing artists who haven't been featured as often on the show. I've done AE's "Soap and Water" before as well as Beej's "Fragments of Gold," but I will definitely be doing Alexander Prievert's "Broken Mirror Reflection" as well as "LightSpeed" by Sir Nuts with Mae. I was actually gonna play Overheating tonight, but luckily I checked the thread out and saw your request Nuts, so thanks for the support, and I'll be playing Overheating next week. Fiz, if you wanna hit me up with another request you'd like, hit me up on AIM, and I'll see what else you may be looking for. If you know of anything by Beej that's good too, lemme know.

Aight everyone, we're almost ready for another episode of VG Frequency, and we've got some good stuff on board. The latest tracks from OC by Bloomer, Dan Baranowsky & Will Buck will be pimped out, as well as new VGMix releases from Kevin Stephens, goat (!), Icy Guy & GrayLightning. Carbunk1e recently brought AnimeRemix (http://www.animeremix.org) back into the game and we'll be having his latest track there covering X TV. We've also got the winning tracks of SoundTempest.net (http://www.soundtempest.net)'s CompoST 6 (analoq & Moose585) and CompoST 7 (Rellik & smh) on hand, as well as the top entries in reelmojo's People's Remix Competition 11 (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=33302&start=135) (ArseAssassin, DarkeSword, TO, muchi & Emporer) tackling Kirby's Block Ball.

Hmm...what else is there? Well, for fans of CastleVania 4, LastUnicron's got a fresh remix just released a few days ago that you'll really be feeling. For those of you only familiar with his Alisia Dragoon remix "Halls of Abandonment", Unicron works this mix in a completely different style you'll wanna check out.
JigginJonT's got a remastered version of the fan-favorite F-Zero mix "Silent Progression" in the judges' panel we'll be checking out, while Alexander Prievert, k-wix & Israfel keep things classic with some older OC tracks.
Always be sure to lurk around the WIP and WIP:O forums here to find out about interesting works, old and new, going on within the community. On the game remix front, we'll also be having stuff from Dr. Fruitcake, Norrin Radd, freshmaker and Shael Riley, while on the originals side, Destiny, djcubez, Ork Estral, Abram McCalment & Jared Hudson all bring their diverse styles to the table.

I always love making the playlists for these shows, since I think these represent good cross-sections of the community we're all a part of. If you watch my sig throughout today, you'll notice me playing tonight's tracks while I figure out what tonight's playlist order is. With all of that said, you better be there with me and the VG Frequency regulars tonight from 10PM-12AM EST. The AIM chat room can be reached by opening AIM and copying the link in my signature into you web browser, or just IM me. You also have less than a day or so left to snag last week's 107MB episode featuring Protricity over at https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji, so don't be left out of that one either. Hope to see you around tonight. And to DCT, our thoughts continue to be with you. Get better bro.

Thanks for everyone who tuned in, as well as DarkeSword and (not) the bastards who called in later. Also props to Pretz for posting up the coincidentally posting the latest 3 mixes during my show, which provided further material for the show (one day he's gonna stare at his glowing computer lights and not snap out of it), as well as Digital Coma for calling in post-show/post-recording with a spirited live rendition of the OC ReMix classic, "Fowl Jive", because that's clearly what we all wanted to hear.

Thanks for the requests, Ignis, Fiz & Dhsu. I'll be sure to get to 'em next week. Now for anyone interested, go over to my webspace at https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji and pick up the latest episode of VG Frequency. This one clocks in at nearly 3 hours and 123MB. Holy crizzap! You buy! You buy!

Mad props to Red Omen for the pimpin' pic commemorating the banishment of that whore, Jim Holland. He's just gotta get the last name right, but it's the thought that counts. (Hit the showers, Holland!!!) I can't actually display the image (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/Oji%20Hollins.gif) thanks to my https web address, but it's hilarious!

Any comments on the show archive are appreciated. Take it easy, everyone.

Definitely a great show last week! Keep encoding with whatever method you've been using, it sounds great (better than the stream I get). I had planned on calling in, but with Holland, "John Dough", and Darkesword already having done so, I decided against it. I'll do that this week I guess :D

Saturday's show was slightly fucked up. Wierd stuff happening all over the place like the death threat early on. Holland just served to remind me how much I needed the toilet.

EDIT: I can't download the file Larry, it says service unknown. Is that the https or something else?

EDIT #2: Okey Dokey, changed to a download manager that supports https and I'm getting a file not found. Your ball Larry.

I've got no idea why the download wasn't working, since the file's been hosted since Monday night. https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji brings you to the webspace, while https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/Larry%20Oji%20(Liontamer)%20-%20VG%20Frequency%20%2322%20(High%20Quality).mp3 is a direct link to the 123MB mp3. Waddap, everybody. VG Frequency #23 (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/Larry%20Oji%20(Liontamer)%20-%20VG%20Frequency%20%2323%20(High%20Quality).mp3) is available for your downloading pleasure over at my webspace (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji), clocking in at 117MB. Thanks to everyone who tuned in and contributed, as well as Mr. Mystery Indian caller (Kris), Wingless, bLiNd & DCT for calling in, as well as OverCoat for the usual AIM chat transcript hookup. I know bLiNd's call-in is kind of low, so feel free to use headphones on that. If I have time to chill in the studio and raise the levels on that a little bit, I may do that, but it's a tedious process as Species can attest to. If I do have the time to tweaks those levels and re-release the show MP3, I'll let you know.

It's been just over a year since I started getting attention from the community-at-large for my radio show, so to celebrate, we not only have this week's chat transcript (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/VG%20Frequency%20%2323%20Chat%20Transcript.htm), but for a limited time you can check out my first ever AIM conversation with OverCoat (https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/Insert%20Name%20Here%203-22-03%20-%20SeattleOverCoat.htm) back on March 22nd, 2003. SOC was my first listener from the community back when my show had the terribly plain title of "(Insert Name Here)", and he's been with me and the show through and through. Thanks a lot for your support from the beginning, Scott!

Glad to have DCT back at 'em as well! Everyone glad to see you around again. If you wanna get more info on the goings on in DCT's life in the past month, you really should check out the show and hear what he had to say. We're all looking forward to you're gonna be working on, continuing to bring mor ehip-hop flavor to the community. Stay ambitious, bro!

There's also a 40MB lower quality MP3 available by request; if anyone is interested in that, let me know. Here's your playlist folks. See you next week!

25. DCT is back in a big way and wastes no time in running down the events of the month of March (you don't want DCT's month of March); The Big Shot covers the love and concern he received from a huge amount of people in the video game remixing community, as well as the OCR rejection of his Sonic 3 mix "Iced Out Nine Twenty Two, zyko's retirement from the game remixing scene, progress with the developing VG music boy band "The 8-Bit Boys", the trauma, pessimism and financial expenses inherent in the aftermath of his attack, OneUp Studios, music production & the thought of a OneUp rap remix album, the pros & cons of the mainstreaming of video game music, his new PayPal account, the Oppressed Minority All-Starz, and gaining a renewed focus on the enjoyment of music creation; Welcome back, DCT! Having the same trouble NJ Sykora had last week with the mp3 not downloading. According to my download manager, "The date in the certificate is invalid or has expired", so make of it what you will. It's also happening with ALL the files in your loji folder.

So I'm on AIM a little after 4 PM waiting for an upload to go through and I decide to check Larry's info for some reason. It pops up with the red font... "he's on the radio?" I ask myself, puzzled. Sure enough, I click the link and there's some serious VG mixes getting airtime. Then I check out the VG Frequency chatroom and no one's there... so it's not VG Frequency, it's just Larry getting some airtime and playing VG mixes.
