Just a quick reminder that we
NEED TORRENT (www.studio-compyfox.de/torrent) SEEDERS!

I can't seed 24/7 alone all the time. Not to mention with more than 20k/s alltogether.

I hope they're tagged Nervous breakdown pt.1, nervous breakdown pt. 2, etc. We drove him frickin' bonkers. And there are SOOOO many good bumpers that can be made out of episode 50 alone.

Larry, you should have a contest man. Best bumper using bits from show #50 (can use other shows as well) gets some sort of prize. Like an ormgas/OCR/WMRE shirt or something. Or a dollar in the mail or a visit from you or something. That would rock.

I'm seeding the 46/47 torrent, so whoever wants to try to rape my school's bandwidth, go for it. It'll be up all day.

Compyfox
03-01-2005, 07:32 PM
And again... I'm the only seeder (along with D-Lux atm - but who knows for how long).

I told you we need "long time seeders"! But if it's okay for you that I'm the only "seeder" in general and I can only sporadically seed with 3k/s per torrent... fine with me.

But I guess I'll invent some "new rules" regarding "leeching" soon. Or switch the tracker completely to impliment certain "limitations". Or the the most radical way: I just stop seeding. Sorry but it seems like you leave me no other choice.

Why does it work for the OCR torrents, or anime torrents, or game torrents (and so forth if we talk about the torrent system in general) but not for "VG Frequency"?

Why does it work for the OCR torrents, or anime torrents, or game torrents (and so forth if we talk about the torrent system in general) but not for "VG Frequency"?First thing that comes into mind is "lack of demand", but I'll let you be the judge of that, since you know how much demand there is for older shows better than any of us.

If it's any credit, I've finally got a new hard drive with 70GB space free, so I might be able to help you out now.

Kaleb.G
03-01-2005, 08:57 PM
Actually, now that my roomate is moving out, I can probably get the bandwidth I need to help with the seeding. I have a lot of the episodes, but I need help making sure they get properly recognised as complete by the torrents. Anyway, I need eps 36 and 37 myself, so maybe I can have someone upload them one at a time to my FTP and I can pull them from there to start seeding. I'll talk more about this later.

Compyfox
03-02-2005, 12:18 AM
It's not about popularity demand. Indeed not!
I have an eye on the tracker from time to time spreaded over the day. Sometimes there's someone who wants a newer showpack, somtimes there's one who wants an older one, sometimes there's one who wants all packs at once (which isn't that fair either).

I only have a limited amount of bandwidth by myself that I have to share with my family who bitches at every possible moment that I use up the full range even if it's my ISP connection and not theirs. Not to mention that I'm surely not always there to help out. My seeding PC is also my studio PC at the same time. And sometimes I just want to swtich it off or have to work on other material (engineering and mastering for others, own songs, ...), etc.

The most sad thing since I started the tracker:
Okay... I am the master seeder. But 90% of the finished uploads go to my count alone. Yeah, even though I can only offer 20k/s max (which doesn't mean I "have to" do so) and sometimes have all seeds open. Most of the files offered were from me. Seldom from someone who was so kind helping out. It's not on my side but I think it's more the mentality "I have my stuff, why should I help out?!". And this simply can't work this way.

This whole torrent thing started as idea to help out Larry get his shows to the audience as he can only offer the last 1-2 shows on his own webspace and the question always comes up "where can I get an old show?! I missed one". Not to mention that the shows getting longer/bigger as you might already recognised. I sure did my thing and as soon as a new batch comes out it is me again that's the only one who offer a complete set for seeding. And if you can remember - the last times even with 20k/s dedicated for one open file only.

Short said: the torrent is the only possibility to get all old material and even some goodies that're usually not available. For example the aftershows, which we aren't forced to record them - we do this voluntarily!

A solution to this problem must be found. All I can do is share what I have. I always offer new material for you but have no backup support from those who already snagged the material via Larry's page or the torrent to help out seeding. If others (in other words you, the listeners or the fandom) don't do that and always have an excuse with whining/bitching in the subtone then the whole torrent thing isn't worth a thing. At least in my opinion.

Like I said... I did and still do most of the "offering" for you alone. I look for bugs, try to help out why the seeding doesn't work for each individual user. But I can't seed alone anymore! Especially not as soon as the new packs (VGF#44.99-#50, Prior-20 shows, Aftershow pack) will be out. And I know a lot of you are not fond of snagging a 1+GB pack (which the latest show pack will be for sure) with just 3k/s.

Just my two cents.

Xerol Oplan
03-02-2005, 12:26 AM
Like I said, it's a matter of 1) being online and 2) demand on my machine. The parents cut off the internet about 18 hours of the day(on average--some days they might let me get online as early as 4pm). But I've got the 21-25 torrent running whenever I'm on(it's the only one that I've got complete). I've uploaded about 85% of the total amount of the torrent since my last reboot, so people have been downloading it. I can start up any of the other pre-40 torrents on demand as well, but just having the 21-25 torrent open hogs about 100 megs of ram at all times.

I was worried that my skipped Song of the Week would leave a noticable gap in #48, but boy was I wrong. Larry picked some nice, and pretty rare, original and professionally-arranged game music here. I better watch out, or Larry will have no need for SotW anymore. :P

I sure am sorry I missed that show live. That's surely the best one I've heard. Star Ocean and Miki-Chan, great stuff. The Maury sketch was hysterical, though it did thoroughly desecrate the face of Valentine's day. XD

I don't frequent these boards too often, but I am offering my services in seeding the VGF torrents as often as I can. I only have 46-47 fully completed as of now, but I'll leave that window open as often as I can, and, when I get other show sets finished, I'll let those stand for y'all, again; as often as I can. (Hooray for broadband and lots of free time!) Rock. \m/

Any idea about what happened to them? I originally thought that my school had mysteriously blocked the server (a similar thing happened a few months ago with Urban Dictionary... it just stopped working on campus but not for everyone else), but it turned out that it wasn't working for anyone else either.

I've been in #gfchat like three times since the forums have been down but nobody, not even the admins, will give an answer. I don't think they have any answers. The head admin, Bobo, is a fuckoff when it comes to managing his forum. He comes by only maybe once every few months. I believe he's on vacation right now, so nothing can be done until he gets back, as far as I know. I don't know why he doesn't grant server access and other useful information to the other admins there (or at least one of the admins), but that's how shit works, I guess.

But anyway, I'm a bit lucky though. Thanks to Google cache, I was able to retrieve the newest updated SotW rules (which I haven't backed up for at least a month) complete with formatting. I was also able to obtain the nomination queue from WEEK 17, which is a week off, but still not bad. I'm also a bit glad I delayed starting anything for WEEK 19, as now I can just start fresh if I need to.

So SOTW would be held here now? I dunno. It's the reason I still go to GFF.

I certainly hope they fix their problems soon.

Kaleb.G
03-18-2005, 03:40 AM
I want to continue SotW, GFF or no GFF. But I have some problems in deciding this.

One problem is that if I start it here (or somewhere else) and then have GFF come back up the next day, what would I do then? Should I switch back to GFF, or stay where I am now?

Another problem is actually deciding where I want to hold the event. I could do it here; I have long-standing ties to this site, Larry Oji pimps the event on VG Frequency, and some of the participants in SotW even originally came from here, so it would make sense. I could also do it at Slightly Dark (http://www.slightlydark.com/forums/), since they have a lot of the GFF "game music" members over there, but they also have an "Album of the Week" in a sense, and thus my contest would seem a bit imposing and conflicting. Then again, I could just decide I want complete control over the forum it's being held in, and thus hold it at my own forums (once I launch a new version of it on my new host, which will be happening soon).

I'm still giving GFF until Monday, then I'll start making some decisions.

TCK
03-18-2005, 03:50 AM
Perhaps run the event in tandem, so there's backup in case one of the forums is down? Nobody really needs to see other peoples votes, but they could if they wanted to.

I don't know about doing that every week (might be a bit of a hassle... not sure), but running SoTW in tandem across a few forums while GFF is down might let you reach new audiences who'll follow you back once GFF comes back on-line. Just a thought.

Do you guys feel invaded?

As for Bladiator...you guys have so little confidence in your favorite "Mulatto Stallion."

Sure, Larry doesn't have the charm with the ladies or the romantic skills at the piano like Bladiator. Sure he isn't 6'7" with whispy blonde hair and soulfull blue eyes...
And sure, he recently sired little D'Kwandishawn leaving him forever bound to a woman whose name sounds like some dangerous kind of sushi...

Indeed. I took the 2-file torrents down to prepare the VGF#44.99-VGF#49 pack (also with some other goodies). I chose to do this and not smoothly "changing" it to increase the interest in the next torrent batch.

Also due to my not so well condition at the moment it'll also take a bit (not as long as Larry though, 48h max) but it'll surely come out. Thanks for the patience and understanding.

I still can't give a tentative date for releasing the elder files or the aftershows either, sorry.

I have been informed that due to the changes that have taken place at www.ocremix.org that Larry is splitting his show into two separate but done side by side shows. The VG Frequency you know and love will still exsist, but a new smaller show will be done afterwards called EA Frequency. This new show will feature the remixes on this site and the soundtracks from various EA games.

My song sucks, obviously (when I entered it, I had no idea how good most of the entires were going to be for this joke project). Still, it's not as bad as Azar's, so I think Larry was just trying to knock me for making him play all of my Song of the Week stuff. :P

At least it was not my decesion to play that song, I wasnt even serious about it as an entry, I was just having fun with the joke. I did not expect that monthes later somebody would actually still have it. It is a good example of what no effort, no software, and bordem can do to a person. BEWARE!! 8O

Nice to see your still alive KG, specially after hearing that "song"...I'm a monster!

Speaking of phoning in, I really need to do that sometime in the coming month or so. I got the phone number and a good list of instructions on how to go through international calls, but is there anything else that needs to be established beforehand? ;)

Best of luck for ep 56, tho :D

Best of luck for ep 56, tho :DThere shouldn't be any technical problems. Just dial the number with the international prefixes, etc. and it should work like normal. Just be weary of what you're paying, especially if you're using BT.

34. animefreak (Rob STEEEELE!) is here for 50th show congrats and to bask in the wonderful world of gaming, before detailing how he & Mustin picked up the finished CDs for Xenogears Light, rumors of an af, Joe Cam & Shonen Samurai bumper, e-fighting with EdgeCrusher, the hotness of Shael Riley's girlfriend (she's got a nice groin) [http://www.livejournal.com/users/the_af]

Talk about a long session, and I understand why - a rambling pretzel and a lot of drunken antics are good enough for any of us to take on cue. :P Again, good to see that came through, and best of luck for VGF56 tonight.

"Toyota Disco"
original song "Toyota" by Isamu Ohira (Gran Turismo OST)
lyrics written/performed by Larry Oji (Liontamer)
Lyrics be edited by Larry for completeness! (Nice job on these!)

(spoken)
Yeah, you know, I be groovin' with the Toyota,
Toyota.

(sung)
Drivin' in a Toyota,
Oh, that rhymes with Yoda.
Toyota car, I be drivin'.
Toyota car, I be drivin'.

BOOM... cha cha cha,
ZOOM... cha cha cha,
MEW... cha cha cha,
VROOM... cha cha cha.

You press the gears on down,
And the car be movin' around.
You be ridin' dat car;
And you go far.

Yeah, Toyota!
Ooh, matza-mata-Toyota,
Woona-mana-mana-na-Toyota,
Ma-<unintelligible attempt to sound Asian>.

(spoken)
I'm driving in a Toyota,
Toyota... jrb... what's a Toyota car?
Toyota... Celica...
Toyota... da-uhh...
I'm in a Toyota 4x4, and I, f...
Damn, I'm drivin' over the mountains and shit.
Yeah. Yeah!

(sung)
Drivin' a Toyota!
Vroom vroom, I be drivin' a Toyota!
Aaaaaaah, doo doo doo doo doo doo da doo.
I be drivin' Gran Turismo style;
I be drivin' for a mile!

Whoa, whoa whoa whoa.
Whoo-hoo-hoo

Gran Turismo,
You be drivin' that car.
Gran Turismo,
You be a star.

Mmm... chh chh chh,
Oom... chh chh chh,
Boom... chh chh chh,
Oom... chh chh,
Ooh... chh chh chh,
Ohh... chh chh,
Umm... cha cha cha,
Ahh... cha cha.
Ha cha cha cha cha cha cha cha.
Ha ha... <unintelligible guttural and screeching noises>.

Drivin' a car,
... and, then, something...
Let's eat some stuff,
And uh, something...

(spoken)
Let's do a Terra mix in the middle of the song!

(sung?)
<worst rendition of Terra imaginable>

Woo... chh chh,
Ooh... wah wah,
Ooh... vroom vroom,
Ooooooh.

... doo doo doo,
That make me drivin' in dat car,
And I be... doo doo doo doo,
Doo doo wah doo doo...

(spoken)
Oh, I, *ahem*, *ahem*, vroom, vroom vroom vroom, all right, uh,
It's time to take the keys out of the ignition on that one.
Oh my God, <gibberish>.

All right, let's go for the fade out, man,
Let's go for the real classy fade out,
Yeah, I'm tellin' you man, ooh.

(sung)
Yeah, Toyota.
Uhh, Toyota.
Ooh, wasabi.
<unintelligible rodent noises>

Well, I've done some research into the repeated VGF failures over the past months, and I think I've pinned it down to Larry's laptop repair technician:

Hard luck, fivre. It runs too high for dial-up. (Ask Suzu all about it.) If I remember correctly from RealPlayer, it's about 200 kbps or so.Things may of changed since I got broadband, but I had little trouble getting the show when I had dial-up. Sure, it wasn't perfect in sound, but buffering wasn't that apparant.

That seems to be a moot point though right now.

Well... more like this:
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=19

The show runs in a constant downstream of 30k/s (video and audio via DSL). So it's a bit much for dialup. Restreaming with Shoutcast is a bit difficult cause we would need a streaming server for that and we'd have to stream the same time as we get the show. So it's a bit tricky.

The only solution at the moment is getting the show by our archives (torrent / single files that Larry posts from time to time), which unfortunately takes a while on dial up. Or... if you have a friend asking for a copy on CD etc. But I'm trying to find a solution for that, so please be patient on that one (no promises!).

It's kinda a pity that Larry's PC is broken again. Time's running out on his side and he already has some makeup shows in the queue. Let us just hope everything turns out fine (without additional costs for him - insist on your warranty, Larry!!!). So yeah.

EDIT AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Just called Larry and he was really sorry (and of course pissed) that his laptop broke again. He hopes to get it back within the week to get back on the regular schedule. However his finals are also coming up end of April through half of May. So this has a bit higher priority, too (good luck on that from my side, btw).

He also said that he'd do the first makup show around the first week of May earliest but then again there're still the finals. I guess all we can do at the moment is wait. We know that VG Frequency is slowly running out on WMRE and we "fanboys" all want our weekly dosis of videogame music on the air, but Larry is also just a human. So yeah.

Let us show him our support by being patient and understandingful - and not being a bitch. ;)

Oh well, there goes my sloppy english again...

I'm pretty sure Larry will say something about this issue too but lemme just hook you up.

I just called him and he informed me that this weekend won't be a radio show. Not because he doesn't have his laptop yet but more like he has to do his papers and presentations for the finals. He wanted to do one, but he doesn't want to screw up either. So yeah, University has highest priority.

I'm thinking about doing a "Crimson Moon" 'backup show' in his place tomorrow at the same time Larry would usually do VG Frequency. But I'm not sure about that yet. However if I do one - no call ins, no 3+ hour show, and I guess even no aftershow unless I sleep the whole day and put the night through (it's 4am for me if Larry usually starts VGF at 10pm). I'll keep you informed of that, so please have an eye on the "Crimson Moon (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56524)" thread. If I'm not doing a show, I guess I'll just start the shoutcast server and run some backup shows to make the saturday evening at least a little less boring (that's what also Larry recommended me, btw).

Larry also informed me of the planned schedule for his next and final shows. Yeah... VGF is slowly coming to an end at WMRE, please keep that in mind. No shows (neither makeup, nor regular ones) will be till the 29th April. After that he will (lemme quote) "do mad shows" till he graduates.

Keep an eye on those dates:
VGF#58: 30th April (show was moved from 23rd April)
VGF#59: 07th May
VGF#60: 14th May (FINAL SHOW!)

Makeup shows due to Laptop issues:
VGF#52, VGF#53, VGF#57

Again... best wishes for Larry's finals at this place.

Just a question, is it possible that Larry won't be able to make up the back up shows before he leaves uni?

KyleJCrb
04-23-2005, 01:50 AM
So is the future of VG Frequency in question, or will there be future shows, whether it be via Shoutcast, or another station, something like that?

Compyfox

Larry said that he will try to get everything done before he graduates, TCK. However I didn't go in depthon that topic with him. But you know him, if he does shows it can happen that he does more than one in a night, or one every day.

The other thing is an issue to discuss though, Kyle. However Larry and I can't (and personally I don't want to) go into that just yet. Let's just have the next shows, everything after that isn't important at the moment (except getting a job, an apartement, etc). At least in my opinion. ;)

ADDITIONAL INFO
I promised to keep you updated on that. With the permission from Larry I'm preparing a small show right now to keep you company tonight. It'll be CRIMSON MOON #001.5 (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56524) or something like that. Expect an at least two hour long show, however I can't go into it yet whether or not I'm doing an aftershow.

I'd love to have you as guests tonight. VGF will continue next week again.

I remember hearing this a while ago, but for some reason I never had a copy for myself to release. TO recorded the VGF40 aftershow before I managed to lose that episode to Cool Edit crashing. Had to rerecord that episode after swearing a lot, but anyway, this ended up technically being a preshow to me recording things again. Myself and the lovely lady Paige are on the air while I act as an intermediary between her and Bladiator's suave advances.

Also, proving 4 months in the past that it's not that hard to do a funny parody of me, Paige decides to mock me in her special way. For the record, I am NOT whipped. Clocks in a mere 8.9MB/9min46sec (http://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/prohe/Larry%20Oji%20(Liontamer)%20-%20VG%20Frequency%20%2340%20(Aftershow-Preshow).mp3). Search near the end of the chat transcript (http://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/prohe/VG%20Frequency%20%2340%20Chat%20Transcript.log) to follow along with the channel as the wooing unfolded. Thanks very much to TO for coming through with this one, since he HAD to record Karl with a K attempting to put the moves on the ladies. Enjoy.

It takes a bit of creativity to put an audio drama together. While some of the production and voice work could have been a little better in that Dragon Warrior drama, it was still quite creative and fairly funny.

KyleJCrb

The musical sections of it all were actually based on a real entry that XMark was planning on working on for the DoD contest, but he didn't have the time to finish it, so he took what he had and turned it into a radio drama. I thought it was a great effort from him, and I hope he finishes that one off, as well as does more.
