I am fully prepared for the backlash that my track creates when the project is released and people hear it. It has several strikes against it for most average listeners

1. There are vocals
2. Said vocals are death metal growls
3. Song is heavier than your average VG cover (by a mile)

The only thing it has going for it maybe are that the lyrics are very humorous, but still some people will skip it five seconds in once they hear the vocals.

Their loss.

I am SOOO looking forward to this now. I've done a little screamin' / growls for an older band of mine I used to be a part of so it will be nice bit of nostalgia. :nicework:

No no no, vocals are okay when they are METULLLLLL.

It's only when there are RAP vocals that people get angry because OMG RAP IS NOT MUSIC.

As the death metal vocalist I think I can safely share my opinion on rap vocals. There's actually a lot of similarity between death vocals and rap vocals. Death vocals, mainly monotone, with a ferocious changing of pitch between growling and screaming, but not really based too much on melody. Usually based on rhythmic timing.

Rap vocals on the other hand... usually pretty much the same thing, but without the growling or screaming. Monotone, almost like speaking in a rhythmic manner. Though I believe growls can express a lot more emotion than raping. Rap vocals stop being rap vocals when they introduce melody or auto-tune, with the exception of douchebags like Kanye West who put auto-tune on their monotone talking.

I'm obviously biased so I can't say one is better than the other, I'll just say they are fairly equal, at least on the surface. It takes a lot more vocal effort and control to be able to pull off a constant string of growling.

ight i dont agree with you. see theyre two kinds of rap the one you speak of is called bubble gum rap and we all know that shit is trash the other form is hip hop which is more real i would say no garbage or anything. now to break it down for you to me i strongly feel that death metal vox doesnt hold a candle to rap vox...come on now death metal is nothing but screaming in rap/hip hop theres the hook...chorus ..punchlines etc. theres more work in the vox then jus hearing 4 mins of screaming *cough* mars volta. also reguardless auto tune or not rap vox are still rap vox...jus look at lil wayne. also tupac and biggies lyrics changed the game they took time to write theyre lyrics. so rap isnt monotone in certain songs theyre alot of good ear candy and voice inflections.

Ahah, well realize I was also being extremely generous in an attempt to not piss off any rap fans. But I wasn't talking hip hop. I was talking rap. And I clearly said I don't consider melodious auto-tune vocals and choruses to be rap. I don't care if you call it bubble gum tic-tac marzipan kit-kat rap. Rap is rap.

It's obvious another DKC game would really satisfy the fanbase's hunger. Unfortunately, if we ever want it for any hardware, a group of fans would have to do it themselves. Nintendo will never make another DKC game as long as they're under those Bongos' curse!

Brandon Strader
10-31-2009, 05:46 AM
I thought the donkey bongos were pretty successful. Maybe I'm wrong. But they won't make another DKC game just because the bongos are too established or what? I don't get it. You'd think Nintendo would see the games they've had that people loved and make new ones. I mean they did the new side-scrolling multiplayer Mario thing. Why not DKC?

Yeah. What does the $1200 pay for exactly? Will the physical copies be for sale to, I dunno, anyone? How many copies will be made and what will they cost a piece? Who gets the money from the sales - OCR?

In that case, I'd rather pay the lower price and have that money donated to OCR than pay the higher price so that others can buy it for the lower price, since I'll get a copy either way.

Yeah. What does the $1200 pay for exactly? Will the physical copies be for sale to, I dunno, anyone?Unless things have changed since last week, they won't be for sale: According to Bahamut "These are never for selling."

Also: did you get my last PM, Bahamut? If everything's all good I can send my donation tomorrow.

Well, it's not a for sale thing - CD printings for OCR are always promotional, and never for sale. This will be a 2-3 CD album (hopefully 2, but we are cutting it very close on minutes per CD), so I'm guessing costs will be similar to FF4's printing, although we should be able to print more CDs as we're going the digipak route. If I remember right, FF4 only printed 200 copies or so? OA probably can correct me on this though, but the number sounded quite low. I have to check the numbers when we have all of the material ready for printing the CDs.

Remember, getting a physical copy is a gift of thanks - I could just as easily foot this bill myself, as I have the cash, but it's a lot of money for one person to pay for. I will naturally foot the necessary difference, but I'm hoping I don't have to.

All interested people, paypal the $ to wesley.cho@gmail.com . The amount is up to all of you of course as to what you want to donate. Some have donated quite a bit!

Ok, just to get this straight, these CD's are promotional. What does that mean? You give them away for free at various events that OCReMix attends? To ordinary people like myself (were I to attend) or to people "in the biz"? Both? I feel like I've been missing out on something very fundamental and simple here. I'm in no way trying to question what you're doing, I just don't understand how this works, and everyone else seems to.

We do give them out for free at various stuff like at OCR panels at various conventions, or when available offer to give them as a gift when people purchase OCR merchandise in person at said conventions. They are never sold individually for profit, as OCR is a non-profit organization and is about promoting the music.

At least that's better than the Black Eyed Peas' original version. A sad piano drama isn't unheard of on other albums, but on this one, it still wouldn't suffice. Donkey Kong Country revolves more around comedy than drama.

And skrypnyk, the Black Eyed Peas songs before "My Humps" were at least mediocre-to-decent. "My Humps" was (beep)ing terrible.

David Wise left Rare! "I think the business of Rare has changed a great deal, and at the moment there is just not the opportunity to create the soundtracks that Rare were fortunately very famous for."

I'd bet the farm that his participation in this project had at least a little to do with that decision. Think we made him long a bit for the 'good ole days?'

Best of luck to him in his job search (if he's indeed in the midst of one).

GTAHater836

I'll bet this wouldn't have happened if RARE could just get the XBOX series right! Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Live & Reloaded, Perfect Dark Zero! They were all such huge disappointments that I'd have left if I worked alongside David Wise.

Anyways, 4 more tracks! The anticipation is degrasively heavy!

I'm not sure why, but the fact that this thread hasn't had a reply in 6 days really bothered me to the point of me logging in after 2 years of inactivity.

That being said, I'm reeeaaally looking forward to this album. I've heard nothing but good things, especially involving Nicole Adams' take on Hot Head Bop (really, a duet between Diddy and Dixie? That sounds incredible). And of course, I can't WAAAAIT for Dave Wise's remix of Donkey Kong Rescued (when I found out Dave, Robin AND Grant were working it, I was at a loss of words. I kinda still am).

I also haven't heard the preview and don't intend to. As much as I'd LOVE to, I'd rather everything be one big surprise to me.

No, it's because there's still 4 tracks left to be finished and (I'm assuming) the website/physical printing/final release details aren't finalized yet. Last time I checked the release was slated for sometime this month, but if that's the case it looks like the project directors will have to haul ass to get it all ready. By way of comparison, it took almost a month, if memory serves, from the time the music aspect of Humans + Gears was finalized to the point of actually releasing the album to the public. The behind-the-scenes work takes up a lot more time than most of us know.

Sad to see that it isn't being released today, but I understand that there's a lot of work going into it. Could you at least give us another teaser or something today? :D

Hey there,

this is my first time posting, but I've been following this project almost from the very beginning (I must have listened to that project preview over a hundred times by now hahaha!). I just wanted to let you know that I'm looking forward to the final product and that I would gladly donate if I could.

Good luck finishing up and Cheers! :)

The status: all that remains is the website, Jake's mix, and Pretzel's two mixes. All three of these are kind of important, so we'll delay as long as we need to to get them. And no longer than that.

Hey, there have been plenty of other projects that have taken MUCH longer than this one. So STFU

I apologize that we weren't able to get out the album for the year :-( . Things are looking like they should definitely be 100% done next month though - we only have a few holdups left, so the odds are looking very good!

No worries guys, it's gonna be hard but we all can wait (and this is coming from a huge DKC fan) - thanks for putting this project together in the first place! I'm pretty sure it'll be gold :)

No problem Bahamut! I'm a patient man and I can wait, and rushing will lose the quality of the album XD. I think we both understand that, and I really am looking forward to this album.

On a side note, I couldn't help but feel like I expected the delay to occur, although I hoped it wouldn't (Not trying to sound insulting or anything). I probably came from watching each track get complete that led me to that deduction, but I can't fully tell. Of course, I don't assume the track artists working here are lazy to any amount - I'm fully aware that we all have real-lives, and I really don't know what goes on with the recording and how long it can takes. 'Tis all understandable.

After the initial printing or whatnot, you could try amazon.com mp3 downloads... Xerol has one set up and you probably heard about it already, but http://www.createspace.com/

I'm thinking about trying it too

https://www.createspace.com/Products/CD/ <-- make CDs too

If you make the CD at that site, they'll send you a free proof now, and you can self-order up to like 500 copies for $2.97 (PER CD)... though shorter orders like 49 copies cost more, $4.95

If you have trouble finding all the donations you need for a "serious" printing, you could maybe try something like that

Must... not... listen! x_x

Okay, I only listened enough to figure out what song it was, then I closed out so as not to ruin the surprise, but... for anyone curious, it's the updated version of Mining Melancholy that was released on the radio show :-P

I listened to all of it (I have a terrible habit of spoiling myself too much XD). All I'll tell you is that this song is so much better than the previous version; and I actually enjoyed the lyrics despite the fact that I'm not very fond of rap. I could be being bias though XD.

Also, WHOOT, Virt's track is coming! I've really enjoyed some of his works - and it looks like djp

Right, I've been following this project for a long time now, and Donkey Kong Country 2 definitely has my favourite game soundtrack ever. :D But I listened to that preview and....oh good god. WHY? Why destroy Mining Melancholy by rapping over it? It's like drawing a cock on the Mona Lisa!

I'm sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, and I understand and appreciate that a lot of hard work and effort has gone into this project. And I know that not everyone hates rap music. But would it be possible to release a version of the song without lyrics in? And if there's rapping over Stickerbrush Symphony, there will be blood.

As I said several pages ago, the source is very well suited to it. The bulk of it is beat-driven, with brief melodic breaks, which is perfect for rap.

It's like drawing a cock on the Mona Lisa!

That would be pretty awesome.

No. It wouldn't.

If you love it that damn much, why are you so closed minded about what they want to do with their album, especially if you have no musical talent? I'm not gonna respond back so reply if you want, I just saw that really ignorant post and decided to say somethin but keepin in mind this is someone elses' thread so I didn't say anything harsh.

It's still not clear to me if any unfortunate circumstances have arisen in this project's development, but I'll be happy to see it released in January 2010. I thought they'd release BOTH The MissingNo Tracks and MegaMan 9 (beta name Back In Blue) before this.

And If I interpreted one of Teeth's posts correctly, he loved the OST to DKC2, but he didn't want the remix to sound just anyhow.

And to all those talking about the cock on Mona Lisa... did it ever occur to you that in past millennia, it was a symbol of fertility?

ROFL people who hate hip-hop.

You know what? I think Jose did a fucking good job with his writing and flow. I certainly couldn't do any better. In fact, the rest of the song is fantastic as well.

How about this, Teeth? Why don't you teach yourself how to use a music program like FruityLoops or ProTools or some junk and DO YOUR OWN RENDITION? Instead of being close-minded and hurtful, why not try to one-up them instead?

And while you're at it, why not listen to some fantastic hip-hop music instead of the Hot 100, and really learn why it's a beautiful method of expression worth defending.

edit: also, GTAHater836 (rofl), I'm pretty sure they're kidding about there being a giant dick painted on the front of the mona lisa's mouth.

Wow guys, it's just one dude's opinion, don't need to get so up in arms about it.

Excuse me, my intention wasn't to be hurtful - I stated clearly that I could understand that a lot of effort had been put in, and I respected that. I also said that I'm not a musician myself, and there's no way I could do better. Really I just stated my own, personal opinion, which I don't have to change because you don't agree with me, and asked if it would be possible for me to listen to a version without lyrics.

Patrick Burns

Nobody is really upset, Teeth. We all have those awesome ReMixes in our heads we're waiting for someone to make, but wanting and waiting for something doesn't mean you're entitled to it, or are justified in acting indignant when it doesn't turn out how you want it. That's a common reaction for a lot of people, and everyone here is used to reacting to it. Next time, just tell Taucer how much you love it and want a karaoke version of it.

You can't upset any of the guys on the Mining Melancholy mix (hence the sarcastic reactions), but it could just have easily been a newbie trying to build confidence.

Anyway, seems to me like we all understand each other at this point.

So, I've built quite a reputation for ruining music. Now that HD Remix is a complete disaster, I'm ready to do the same for Dave Wise. I've helped to create a real work of art by programming the bassline, the drums, and the percussion, as well as writing nearly the entire chorus. We meant for it to be an instrumental where people can imagine their own lead vocal performance, but then I had to go and rap.

GTAHater836
12-31-2009, 12:32 AM
Three questions and comments, Jose...

1) You're the only ReMixer I know who does rap. Do any other ReMixers rap?

2) It's not your fault I had a problem with the Turbo HD Remix. My gripe is that the mixes were not all new.

3) What did you name your ReMix of Mining Melancholy?

The song was called "Trapped in the Mines" when it was subbed to DoD. The final title is "Trapped in the Minds."
