ORIGINAL POST:
So, Bahamut and I are running a DKC2 project.
A few months ago, we invited a number of remixers to participate, giving our favorite remixers first dibs. Yes, we're elitist twits. Deal with it. (though admittedly there are probably a few people that should have been on the original list of invitees who we forgot. Sorry)
ANYWAY, the first deadline was yesterday, and the project is now comming out of secrecy, and any unclaimed tracks are open. If you want to claim a track, send me a WIP, and if I like it, I'll give you the claim.
CLARIFICATION ABOUT HOW TO AUDITION: If you want to claim a track, send me a WIP OF THE TRACK YOU WANT TO MIX. If I like it, and that track hasn't already been claimed (or if whoever claimed it missed the last deadline and hasn't sent me an update yet), the track is yours.
Be forewarned: we're gonna be assholes about the due dates. If you miss a due date, your track is again open and goes to the first person to send me a WIP I like. If you miss a due date, but then manage to get me an updated WIP before somebody else does, you get your claim back, but if somebody else beats you to it, tough shit.

Right, I get it. You're trying to tap into PRC's immense fanbase by advertising right when Rexy pulls out a DKC2 theme. Real smooth.
By the way, act now and you can be a part of the world-famous People's Remix Competition, now featuring Donkey Kong Country 2! Just click the image below and let fate whisk you away to unimaginable heights!
Also: Good luck with this.
I'm a little confused, mainly because you didn't post any WIP date. What you're saying is that the tracks that are in grey and have not been claimed are now open to the general public? If so, by when should we submit a WIP to you to see if we have the track?
Also, I noticed that the song "Klubba's Reveille" was not one of those listed. Was that intentional to cut down on the length or just a typo, because I would like to give that song a shot if I could. If not, I think I'll work on "Disco Train"
Finally, is there any limitations in terms of genre. Are solo piano mixes acceptable?

ya I've already PMed you, but I might have done it the wrong way; by "Send me a wip", do you mean "Send me a wip you've made specifically for the track you want to claim for this project" or do you mean "Send me any old wip you have lying around so I can tell if you're good enough to join"? I did it the latter way, so I might have screwed up. :/

First due date, for those I invited to get first dibs on the project, was yesterday. Next due date hasn't been decided yet.

No limitations. You just have to send me a WIP that I like.
You've piqued my interest Taucer. Let's see if I can barrel roll.

This seems more like an announcement than a request. All the major tracks most people would want are already taken. Why didn't you just personally request people for all of them?
EDIT: I suppose it would be a bit odd to PM somebody and beg them to do like a bonus room theme. I guess I can see that.
Any word on Klubba's Reveille?

I'm up to my elbows in DKC projects already, but I've been dying to create something for a ReMix project. I'll put my effort into Cranky's Conga and see what I can come up with.

Geoffrey Taucer
03-03-2008, 01:18 PM
Standalone tracks.
And those who are on the project will be able to hear any WIPs that get posted on the project forum. Several people have just sent their stuff straight to me, though, so you still won't hear everything.

My interest in this rogue project has been FIRMLY cemented. Honestly... it's Mazedude. This man is prolific.
Also, this project is coming together alarmingly fast. I mean, I knew everyone on OCR (just about) wanted a DKC2 project, but honestly I was never sure it would ever happen. AND ESPECIALLY with all the bajillions of site projects that we have already!
This makes me happy.
I think my sig is kinda full, otherwise the banner for this would go in there, definitely.

That's kinda funny, because everyone wanted Flight of the Zinger, but virt snatched it really quickly. If you REALLY need convincing of virt's quality, just know that he's the one who wrote Contra 4's soundtrack, amongst countless others (check out http://virt.vgmix.com (http://virt.vgmix.com/) ).
I'm going to say this though - so far from what I've heard of the project, I'm pretty satisfied in general, with some I'm really looking forward to seeing completed versions of some of these rough sketches/wips. I won't let unsatisfactory songs go by without a fight!

That's kind of surprising though that you say 'everyone' wanted to do that song. Maybe the people who didn't get to do it for the project can still do it outside of it when they have time/effort. I'd love to hear their take on it.

Well, we intend on giving ample time for the deadlines - our first deadline was 5 months after we kickstarted the project, and we haven't thought of when our next deadline should be yet. However, we are pretty stringent as to what is good enough to be on the project - the invites had the first dibs in the first place, and some great tracks opened up due to lack of wips or in someone else's case, lack of time. There are still a few other established names who are interested as well, although I'm sure they may be dismayed that some tracks they might've been sitting for got snatched up really quickly.

I don't know yet, I'm open to any suggestions really. I've tried quite a few different approaches but nothing really seems to work (unless I stay really close to the source). It's hard for me because of the shuffle rhythm and the lack of a real lead melody (it's mostly fast, alternating melodic ideas, much like in a classical piece).

I must correct myself here - the tracklisting is a little out of date, since I cannot edit posts in the Workspace forums.
Here are the adjustments that aren't made yet or extra clarifications on status of tracks:
Bayou Boogie, Forest Interlude, and Flight of the Zinger in the orange phase, with potentially Jib Jig (I'd like to hear one more update with definitiveness on its status before putting it on orange).
Danny B has been MIA since claiming Boss Bossanova - I hope he didn't forget about the project or anything else unexpected happen. I'm not sure what's up with norg either, but we'll see.
Nicole & Blake have time extensions for their tracks for various reasons. I may be inclined to give Tensei & pu_freak a time extension if need be as well, although I hope he could pump out a nice track by the time allotted (that goes with anyone really).
Nekofrog has been making good progress with his track, and I'm pushing him harder to make a full track than the others. For a death metal track, and the final bosstrack no less, I'm making sure it goes all out with Neko's current ability - it's the track I'm currently looking forward to one of the most so far.
djpretzel & virt get to be on their own schedules for obvious reasons.
Lost World Anthem is claimed by bustatunez, with a potential collab with DrumUltimA.
I'm fully confident in the remixers on the project. Even the short wips have indicated great direction with the source material IMO.

This is gonna end up like Black Wing Metamorphosis with a zillion remixers contributing.
Hm... I'm gonna have to adapt the piece to include marimba. Trumpet could easily fit in. marimba would need some changes, but I can do that. As for busta, I'm most interested in the djembe.
Gotta get the track approved by Tauce and Baha first. I just gotta write it longer before that.

Hi this a near finshed Klomps "Bluegrass" romp. I was wondering is there anyone willing to master this.
Also do you think any of the levels of any instruments should be changed,
what instruments and at what time in the track so I know where to change the levels.
This track is at minus -3 DB ,
I have left room for it to be mastered by someone.
the MP3 Was compressed to 192Kb.
it is 3.21Mb
The structure for this remix is :
Klomp verse - 0.00 - 0.16s
break 1 - 0.16s - 0.52s
Klomp verse - 0.52s - 1.02s
Klomp Chorus - 1.02s - 1.20s
break 2 - 1.20s - 1.59s
Klomp verse -1.59s - 2.09s
ending- 2.09s - 2.20s
The file is here
http://www.mediafire.com/?vwd5uzdwxvw
There will be 2 files one is a rough version and the other is titled:
Klomps romp -3DB for mastering

Either way, good luck guys!

That would be me and bahamut. We haven't settled on a title or anything yet.
Do you have a portfolio we can take a look at?

I don't have a portfolio on hand but I can put one of my ideas on paper and let you take a look. I'll probably focus on the kremlings since that what you guys are suggesting the name of the album to be related to them. Let me know the basics of you want on the cover and what needs to be the cover or back cover...such as the names of the pieces on the album which is probably a ways away of finalizing.

if you guys still need a name idea, maybe Kremlings in Concert would work via the previous album of Kong in Concert. It would help tie them together i guess...

CursedByFire, there is an edit button. And I think that we should have the title be Kong in Concert II, with a secondary title possibly to follow. Heck, Kong in Concert II sounds good on its own, imo. And it ties it to the previous album even better than Kremlings in Concert, because it shows that it's a sequel of sorts. *wonders if there will ever be a DKC3 project* If you wanted to go that route, why now choose K. Rool in Concert.

I didn't mean "we" like that, I meant it generally. And there have been many possible titles.
Crocodile Concerto
Kremkrock Cacophony
Crocodile Concord
Symphony of Conquest
Zinger Symphonic (just throwing it out there still)
Conquest's End
Kremling Accord
Krocodile Swamp Songs
Just to list off the ones already said. And then there's the possibility of inserting Kong in Concert II before it. Thought I'd put 'em all in one post for quick access instead of looking through two pages.
Oh, and K. Rool in Concert

That is a good one, I like it. The Kongs are wrathful against K Rool for kidnapping DK. But the fact that it's a pun, I don't know. Not my decision anyways.

I really like the idea of starting off the title with "Kong in Concert II", as that clearly shows the connection between this project and the DKC one that came before it. If this becomes a trilogy, it will be very apparent to newcomers and those who have yet to check out the projects that these projects are in fact related.
As for an idea, how about Kong in Concert II: The Konquest Koncord.
Either this or KiC2: The Kong Quest Koncord.
With the first option, I like how the word Konquest kind of sounds like you're saying Kong Quest, even though you're not. But, since this is DKC2, it makes sense since the game was Diddy's Kong Quest. As for Koncord, using Koncerto would just be redundant, I feel, given that you start the title with Kong in Concert. By definition, concord means "harmony or agreement of interests or feelings; accord". This part works because just like Diddy and Dixie, all the other kongs want them to succeed in rescuing DK from K. Rool, as do we. And by remixing all of the songs that help chronicle and immortalize their epic quest, we are showing that agreement of interests and feelings.
Well, I don't know who decides what title will stick, but here's my idea anyway. :)

Just a request, please stop with the name ideas in this thread - we have our own favored ideas for the name, and will not go public with it until the project is out.
If you're interested in doing artwork, send a PM to Geoffrey Taucer or myself with links to the pictures or other sample artwork
This title is awesome, simply because I finished watching the grapes of wrath yesterday.
:) actually it's the title of one of my tracks
just throwing it out there for lulz
as an aside, and i know bahamut has already made it clear that they have titles in the oven, titles that do too much with the "K" dynamic are going to cheapen the project's credibility.
honestly.
Alliteration is cool but it isn't that cool :)

This is only a sample. Nothing final about this lol. Made it in about an hour. Any suggestions?
Thought I would use the brambles cuz its probably the most memorable in the game, especially from the level where you're racing screech. It was one of the
levels that ticked you off lol. If you want the link http://cid-995f65834d8064f5.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!995F65834D8064F5!113/?startingImageIndex=0&commentsExpand=0&addCommentExpand=0&addCommentFocus=0&pauseSlideshow=0
The title is no way final. I just chose that name just to fit it and see how it would look. That is by no means my decision, just took something and put it on there. I can change it to whatever Bahamut and Taucer want.
I'm also working on another one with a cartoonish look to it. And I'll probably do a third one with the kremlings.

That looks cool. And the Brambles is a good choice, considering that track is the only DKC2 music in Brawl. And those stages are memorable, especially the race one. Have to go off-course to get the DK coin. And catch-up. Not to mention you're surrounded on all sides by DEATH! All in all, a great cover. I like the font choice too. How the text is all shaky; could reference Rambi running/charging or the secret ending (if you've seen that, you'll know what I'm talking about). Obviously, the title isn't finalized, but I like the font choice nonetheless.

I like the artwork, CursedByFire. If I could make one suggestion, could you add the sky and clouds as the background of the bramble artwork, like in the game? I am by no means an artist and am simply trying to give constructive criticism (then again, this is only a draft)
I too cannot wait for this project to be released.

Just curious, what's in the "Medley" song? I don't have that song on my soundtrack, unless it's the victory themes for Diddy and Dixie.

It's not a song from the actual OST, but it is to be a medley of various songs from the OST. Whether we decide to include this is wholly dependent on whether norg ends up completing this.
Mirby

Medleys can be good. Voices of the Lifestream had The Golden Ivories of Gaia, which was a pretty nice medley. So I think a medley for this would work awesomely. The music flows quite well, imo, and the songs should flow into eachother quite smoothly.
Also, Crocodile Cacophony and Snakey Chantey (the Rattle Battle stage BGM) better be extremely epic. I want to have an epicity overload here, people!

Just listened to the sample, and i must say, it's very tantelizing. Crocodile Cacaphony sounds like its deftinely looking up to my expectations, and I recognized Virt's work right off the bat. I'm really digging how these tracks are following the original beat while going through different avenues of sound; even if they are just samples and are still in progress. Good job as always guys.
I've been keeping track of what's being posted on this thread, as I'm a fan of DKC 2 music, and I look VERY forward towards the release of this album. It sounds like this'll be a Christmas release, or at least a new years ones.

Well, a lot of times I do tend to expect techno snaffu, as that's one of my favored genres of music, but I'm also quite flexible (Drawing the line with a few, such as country and rap). Some tracks that aren't entirely close to techno or rock, or ones that take a path that i don't expect, often make me go O.o.
But usually after listening to the tracks a couple of times, I kind of start warming up to the whole tune, enjoying the break from techno. And i must say, I'm definitely looking forward to being surprised; in a good way, of course.

You're not alone Ski, and if you've played DKC3 for the GBA, you know the music is completely different from the SNES version. Most of them are pretty cool, but the snowy level is hilariously bad.
I wonder why no one here did a DKC1 album project before this...
