I'm not a big fan of the Super Metroid Soundtrack.

But this is The Wingless. He should do the soundtrack for the next Metroid game.

Wow. You know, I'm usually not impressed by this type of song and whatnot, but dude, that's pretty neat.

I like the whole feeling the thing has, as well as all the changes. The piano in the background fits pretty well, and the entire thing just flows and goes places. I dig that.

I can't think of anything bad to say about it, honestly, but hot damn. If only the other mixes were this good~

Edit: OH yea, I couldn't really get into the whole 'relics of chozo' or whatever it was. It was a nifty project and all you want, but in my opinion the quality of the songs are not even close to this in any aspect, shape or form.

I downloaded this song off of the Wingless's website a week or two ago and I have mixed feelings about it. I loved the Super Metroid soundtrack, but this doesn't resemble the Maridia theme very much at all. It is very good, but I just wish it sounded more like the original. I'll download the alternate version too to see if I like it better or not.

Damnit, you just had to go and make a lower Brinstar mix that sounds EVEN LESS like the original than mine, huh?

This is really great stuff. Everything melts. it's wonderful. dont know what else to say. some of your best work. love the square synth.

this makes me really want to finish that guitar solo for you.

btw, you said this was maridia, but i heard brinstar 2. WUT?

whoa man. I wish i didn't already do my CD now. This mix is awesome man. it even got me thinking of the One Girl in all the World that I fell in love with. Okay, maybe in all the school, but still. I like this. The title fits the music, the sounds are beautiful, and overall, it is just sweet. 10/10

Excellent work. EQ'd a bit strong in some of the upper frequencies, but nothing that ruins it or anything. I also like the alternate version you provided, but I do like the OC version a bit better. Your alternate version downloaded FAST... like 700K+ per second fast. I had it in a few seconds. Not sure where that is hosted, but it dishes out good speed.

Good god man.

This has EASILY made its way into my personal, aesthetic list of Greatest OverClocked Remixes. Not in anyway to degrade the AWESOME works that have been recently done (and they ARE awesome, I've kept almost every single one), but this is above and beyond in ways I can't even describe.

Suffice to say, I have three sub-folders in my OCR folder - "Mellow", "Kinetic", "Atomic" (Yea, I name my folders weird shit. Shut up, it's my computer.), this one goes into the extra special Atomic folder for songs I listen to more frequently than others.

Great great GREAT job. It pains me that I lack the knowledge to describe all the technical details that make this piece so great. But let me put it the best I can - beginning to end, it totally, completely captivates me.

I can see this is going to be one of those that I turn on when I kill all the lights, rocket up the volume, and immerse myself in music.

Very very smooth...one of the few OCR songs that I've found myself listening to over and over and over after first downloading it because my brain just likes the sound and doesn't want to let go...that synth is like a drug for some reason...soooo lovely.

Edit: which is not to say the other songs are crap, I mean listen to over and over on repeat.

Da Wangless is pimpin like no otha.. Great job man, and yes vig is right. this isnt maridia, = brinstar 2. Wingless's piano work is so amazing, very unique sound with that same old instrument. Another example of course is his secret of mana mix. I really dig it, definately a keeper.

I thought I heard the Brinstar theme, but the Wingless sounded pretty sure that it was Maridia. Now that someone else has mentioned it, it's a lot easier to enjoy this.

10-04-2003, 03:27 PM
it is ok.
I was very disapointed to hear how little it sounded like the original metroids. I could hear some of brinstar in there. some.... Why call it a metroid remix if it does not sound like it?

A decent song sure... But it sucks compared to some of the other epic metroid tracks.
sorry! just my opinion.

Reminds me a lot of the style Metroid Prime's music was. Which is a good thing. ^_^

What an amazing song...I mean...wow. This is wonderful.

It is difficult to hear the original, I can tell it's there, and know the song, but that's what I like about this. It's SO extremely different from the original, it's awesome. It's the area right before the Maridia pipe, with the tentacle things that pull you into the water...but is that considered Maridia or Lower Brinstar? Who knows, this mix is still awesome ^-^

Mmm. Tasty. It took me a while to "get" The Wingless' music, but once I had a handle on it, I learned to really appreciate it.

It's no Aesir or The Wishing Well-- my two favorites-- but it's very, very good.

I could never believe the incredible artistry behind the music from "The Wingless." When I heard his Starfox OCremix "Godspeed" my jaw just dropped and I had to listen to it a few dozen times before I believed my ears as to how good that song was, considering I've been a fan of the music from the SNES Starfox game since I first played it.

Now, my two favorite games of all time are MegaMan 2 for NES, and the almighty Metroid 3 for SNES. -Those- are the two games I grew up on.

And btw, I liked most of the songs from Relics of the Chozo. Some didn't feel right though. *shrugs* But great remixed soundtrack nonetheless.

Anyways, "One Girl in all the World" is a fantastic piece. And my bottom line and point is that pretty much anything by "The Wingless" makes me want to follow that old SNES motto. "Play it Loud!"

Cya! ^-^

Truly I piece of true magnificence. I was just making my weekly visit to OCR to see what new songs had come out; I downloaded them all and began listening to them. I was getting somewhat bored with all the songs when I turned on The Wingless' One Girl In All The World, and my jaw dropped and eyes watered. This song is a true work of art and I found myself getting all of his songs after that, everyone as good as the last, but the best one still remains for me One Girl in All the World.

Gamebro granted it was difficult for me to hear the theme of Metroid in the track it was definitely there, and for you to rate this song purely on its title is sheer stupidity. If you can't see passed the name and look into the song itself than I pity you. But then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder or ear of the listener so to speak, and there is a lot eyes on this one and everyone saying how incredible this song is. Remember, never judge a book by its cover.

This piece is simply beautiful, from the roar of the thunder to the change up at 2:34. This song makes me think of the start of a powerful storm to the beginning of a new light just as the sun comes out after its all over. After all is said and done you realize how important that your "one girl in all the world" is to you. I downloaded it from his website a few weeks ago and I've had it on repeat ever since. If you don't got it get it while the gettings good because "The Wingless" does it again.

I like the watery sort of synth. It just has such a nice vibe and flow to it. The arrangement is pretty good too. A couple moments in it left me wondering if it was over. I like the occasional pause, but sometimes lengthy and frequent pauses bug me.

This is a great remix. Pardon me for saying this, but I'm sick and tired of so many goddamn similar remixes for Super Metroid especially, which just take an already dark score and make it DARKER. CotMM comes to mind. This was very interesting, and I could easily recognize the parts from Metroid. It's kind of depressing in its sound, similar to the other Metroid songs, but that's not a bad thing. Metroid music isn't generally uplifting, which is why I propose someone makes a happy hardcore or sugar pop remix of a metroid song, hehehe.

Keep up the good work The Wingless... aside from Teardrinker, I really love your stuff.

Ah... The Wingless again. Another magnificent masterpeice that gets all thumbs up.
It's getting to the point where even for tracks I don't like, if there's a mix done by The Wingless I hunt it out and nab it.

It's tracks like this that inspire me to have a crack but at the same time, I can't make anything of nearly this quality...

Please keep making these!

I think The Wingless is the only other person who hears video game music quite the same way I do. It's his blend of what makes video game music great, with beautiful instrumentation (some of the greatest piano I've heard). His remixes always keep me coming back here, hoping he has new stuff posted. He caught my attention when I first heard "Teardrinker" and it blew me away (it has since become my favorite video game song, remixed or otherwise), and now he is back with another excellent song.

I am kind of a sucker for wordplay, so of course I loved the title. While we all of course know the title is literal, that doesn't seem so definite when you listen and the romantic nature of the song begins to shine through. It becomes a double entendre, both funny and beautiful.

I really can't say anything about the song itself. The Wingless' work gets to a point where all you can say about it is "right on." He nailed it again.

Right on, man. Keep 'em coming.

It's only once in a while that something strikes me enough where I feel obligated to say something. And Wingless's piece is most definately that something.

As I listen through it, it feels like a very balanced blend between something from Secret of Mana and Metroid Prime. And believe me, this is a good thing. I can't quite describe the feeling from the song, but it makes me happy and I feel like this is something I could listen to over and over and not get sick of. :D The song has delightful flowing melodies that keep it from getting boring and I feel that they kind of set it apart from other remixes that I've downloaded.

This is a good one for sure.

I hate to say it, but this song didn't make sense to me o_O You'd have to listen very closely to even tell that it's based off of Super Metroid. This piece would have been great, IMO, with classical instruments rather than techno beeps and bloops. However, I keep finding myself bored as I listen to it.

On the plus side, two of my friends said they liked it but they like techno-ish stuff.

Xuande

This song rocks... it has a balance of Metroid, and what I can only say must be Secret Of Mana... it has the sort of beat of it at the end. All in all, although it is fairly similar throughout, its a good piece, and you don't have to be a techno/trance fan to love it.

Taking the fact I've been listening to this song for quite a while, it might say there alone that it is a personal favorite.

But not just that, this song takes a lot into it. You feel the emotion that Samus Aran has been sort of led to have over the pass while, especially in Prime, and that is a feeling of loneliness. Rain, what a marvelous effect that rain had, and the entire song became the epitome of rain and it's effects on a temperament. Soothing, but you just begin to think when you listen to it. It just mezmerizes and sucks everything in.

The Wingless, I look forward to the rest of your works, especially if they keep up with this song. You did an incredible job.

I still listen to this song so much, and love all the piano, watery synth, etc. The "reverse emotion form" that Wingless used to have posted here is even better. A+ on both.

Very nice ReMix. It definately has that Prime feel in it (Heck, it even got me to start MP over and try to beat it with a game time of less than 24 hours). Yes, it does have some depressing parts, but it also has some upbeat parts to me (think emotional rollercoaster). Overall, I give it a 9/10.

Great mix. One of my favorites, definitely. Its got a similar feel to Zebesian midnight. Heres how I describe them: night time by by the ocean near a rocky area with a natural roof (kind of like a lagoon) and its raining gently. Thats the picture that pops into my head while listening to this sound. Its great!

This song had me entranced, that's all there is to it. I put on before I go to sleep sometimes, and I find the thunder and rain effects utterly relaxing. I like this one a little better than the companion piece "All the world in one girl," but regardless they're both excellent pieces. The wingless does not disappoint me.

One of the finest remixes on the site. The variation is brilliant, and to my favorite metroid theme in the game the mix is all the more elegant. This piece remains one of my favorite songs of all time.

I know I'm really late in posting this, but I've been coming to this site for about a year now and I've never gotten around to leaving a review this masterpiece.

I think this is hands down the best remix on this site. I have absolutely no complaints with this remix at all. I've listened to this song regularly since I first downloaded it back in '04. Its a miracle cure stress and headaches. I just shut out the lights and play this song and I'm put into an immediate state of peace and relaxation. Theres also something about it that gets my creative juices flowing. I guess it just helps me clear my head so I can think straight.

Wingless, you should be writing music for video games. Your songs are so atmospheric and moody that they would go perfectly with something like Metroid or Seiklus. You have an incredible talent and I hope to hear more from you soon. :)

I never played any of the metroids before Metroid Prime, as I grew up on Sonic via the Sega Genesis, but after hearing Teardrinker I wound up tracking down all of The Wingless's titles, something only Star Salzman had made me do up to this point.

I lack any and all knowledge of making remixes or the sounds involved, but I get completely lost in it. The phrase "Time flies when you're having fun" applies in a sense here, it's hard to believe the song is just shy of 5 minutes, as im completely entranced by this song.

I don't know if it's the genre, the quality, the original game track, or a mix of 2 or all 3, and frankly I don't care, but this song has got me looking for music that follows this particular genre, just not sure where to look other than OCRemix

I consider myself priviledged to have come across this song, I imagine it'll be on my favorites playlist for some time.

The arrangement itself is very creative, as a fan of the original song, I like where this was taken. I found this when I first started going to OCR. For a mix made only a few years ago, this brings back a lot of memories for me, which only goes shows how powerful the music is. Awesome stuff here.

I remember seeing that first piece in your DA favorites...I should have favorited it as well, it's gorgeous.

Anyway, this piece isn't just a ReMix, it's a story, and definitely not only keeps the Metroid vibe, but takes it to a whole new level; it seems to be speaking about Samus herself, not just her alien-blasting exploits, but about the person inside the power suit. Truly moving and beautiful.

I love the background rain SFX, it really sets the tone of this mix. I don't know what it is about rain and Metroid, but they just work together. In Smashing Live, they do something similar with Depths of Brinstar, but this is still better than what they did. It's just so solemn, contemplative, sober, yet it doesn't take itself so dramatically. There is an incredibly vivid sense of place going on at times. This is a great mix.

The most beautiful/emotional music I have ever heard and I whole heartedly mean that. I cant decipher what emotion is brought out in the last 40 seconds, but I can tell it was exactly what meant to come out. I hope you continue to make awesome music like this.

1:43 is the most overtly recognizable part of Brinstar 2. Closer listening yields these source quotes:

- 0:25+ (watery synth) = first three rising notes
- 1:01+ (piano) = lone lead following the rising notes
- 2:43 (whistly synth) = finishing section
- 3:18+ (piano) = ditto, but more liberal riffage

Every player brims with vitality, especially the string swells (glowing), the supporting synths (chirpy, tappy, bubbly, soapy, etc.), and of course the twilight-y ivories. The pauses/silences are a bit distracting in that I feel I have to play the part of the metronome to bridge the gap to the next section smoothly.

Overall, a nicely cleansing mix.

I don't feel like this one's been sufficiently reviewed enough considering the absolute level of sonic perfection this track reached. This one's amassed more plays on iTunes than any other OCRemix just because it's perfect for so many occasions. It's obviously got the soundscape for chilling out and falling asleep to, and the rainy sound effects make it perfect for long walks/drives... I feel a lot more connected and content with the world while I'm listening to this.

Truth be told I don't really feel that much of the source in here, but that's hardly an issue when the end product is this good. Songs in this genre are unfortunately hard to come by, which makes me really sad that The Wingless isn't as prolific as he once was because he completely nailed this genre.

If ANY song is good enough to attain the rank of "my favorite SONG ever" (not just remix... favorite SONG) this one is. I absolutely love it to death, I'll probably never stop listening to it.

Usually, I don't post on songs, but I have to register just for this one.
Honestly, wow...
I think I have fallen for this song.
It really has a strange vibe, kinda mysterious, kinda sad and lonely, kinda scary, somehow unreal which makes me shiver...
Great great job.
(I prefer this one to the other one "All the world in one girl, which is also great, but more "conventionnal" in my opinion).
Anyway, all my thanks to "The Wingless".

Really hypnotic and interesting, I love the melody and the non-traditional choices made, like the delayed bass. It's a very different style than I would normally do, but it's pretty inspiring all the same. Something to think about. :-)

I loved the twinkling piano and synth counterpoint, and the beats were interesting without demanding too much attention. Good stuff.
