Got it; we are doing great for everyone sending in their .wavs;

I just need bLiNd's and Fishy's, and I know Fishy wanted to make a few adjustments to his track... >_>

bLiNd actually sent me a link to the wav, but it wouldn't download for some reason. We'll take care of that sometime soon though.

Update:

I'm now working 2 jobs (in the same day, almost every day), and have almost no time to record in the near-future. Also am having no inspiration on my selected tune, so you might want to free it up for now.

I received a few finished tracks from bLiNd over the weekend, so things are moving along well.

I might be taking the next 48 hours or so off to take care of some non-project stuff, so while i'm gone, I want you to all be good and listen to Jay, Justin, and Shaun. There's snacks in the cupboard and sodas in the fridge. :P

ok, back in the saddle!
I've updated the track statuses (statii?)in the first post and have been hard at work on the magfest promo 'video' that will showcase a few of the tracks on the project. What I have right now is basically a black screen, so to make it more exciting, could everyone please post some of their favorite screen shots from the game?
I'm sure there are a ton of sites out there that have them, and there are like 5 versions of the game out, so even preview sites should have some stuff. DS, SNES, GBA, it's all good, but i need some visuals for this thing so people don't fall asleep! ;-)

Post... here? Battle of the pics, eh? :p

Here are two of FF2 (US) that I took some time back. This (http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/kewlguy715/mt_ordeals_interior_fight.jpg) is my favorite, followed closely by this (http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/kewlguy715/mt_ordeals_interior_3.jpg).

I believe I still relate more to Cecil than I relate to any other character of any video game, novel, or movie that I've played, read, or seen, respectively. To me, the scenes at Mt. Ordeals perfectly capture the inner struggle all good men face in their efforts to rise above themselves and be a force for good.

That was straight from the heart. My heart is made of cheese. Sorry.

EDIT: traded pictures for links; pics took up a ton of space.

OA
12-22-2008, 07:53 PM
They met my expectations that I had of him.

...Which means they are some of the best trance tracks i've ever heard. He took some real stylistic risks with Golbez that I thought worked out really well. The 'vocal' breakdown totally confused me at first, but on second listen i loved it.

wes - i got em all - i made it a thing to stretch and do like 25 battles or so a day with the monsters that drop them - it helped make it more bearable - i had them in about a month - it's nice because you get to keep them in your next play through

Thin Crust

I only tried to fight the pink thingys once. They beserked my whole party. Anyway, all you need to do is go into the room in floor... um. The floor with 3 doors and the first one is a save point. Go back a floor and to the northeast a few steps there is a room with nothing in it. Use a siren in there and I guess you encounter them. I guess it's a 100% chance of encountering thim. But I don't know about the drop rate.

where do you get the tails? I found the regular ol' rat tail. Are the rest in the final moon dungeon?

There are 5 different kinds of tails in the game, excepting the rat tail. Certain monsters drop them - Green Dragons drop green tails, Yellow Dragons drop yellow tails, Armored Fiends drop black tails, Flan Princesses drop pink tails, and Red Dragons drop red tails, all of which you can use to exchange for the Adamant Armor (pink tail), or Onion equipment which grows stronger depending on your level. I only was able to get a green tail after about 100 battles with a Green Dragon and a black tail after ~20 battles with Armored Fiends. The Siren item used in certain places is necessary to get into battles with some of these enemies, and the only way to battle them with consistency.

No wonder you gave up. Unless I'm mistaken, the tails dropped by those pink puffs were removed from the game in the North American SNES version. Unless you imported from Japan you never would have gotten them.

...

Ok, if this is true, i'm REALLY glad I gave up after a single encounter with the flan things.

And I'm pretty sure Abadoss is right, there was no siren on snes, so you could probably spend a month or more trying for it.

I'm curious, did they add any sort of epic, optional bosses in the DS version? Seems to be too much trouble to go for some nice gear if you don't have any really difficult fiends to use them against.

Bahamut
01-14-2009, 11:39 PM
The additional tails for the Onion equipment and Sirens were added in the DS version.

The DS version has no extra optional bosses that I know of, but it is a lot harder than the other versions. I ended up being ~ level 90 before fighting Zeromus, and there were two times where he almost killed the whole party in one attack. They also changed the level you learn certain spells, such as Meteor at level 80 instead of level 65. The regular enemies are also a lot more harder, since they want you to use slow or stop a lot in this version (or spells like Blink).

dPaladin
01-15-2009, 12:26 AM

Yeah, the pink tail is in the North American version. Maybe I missed the sirens somewhere... I don't remember them being in there for this version, though. That would have made things a little easier. Trying to get the stupid piddly summons would have gone a little quicker that way... (I try to go for 100% completion when I play a game like that... except for Zelda: Wind Waker and all those stupid figurines... I don't like games that have requirements that you can't go back and get eventually... this is a freakin' long parenthetical tangent...)

It took me about 30 hours. Considering this is only the 2nd portable game I've ever played. I never got into handheld gaming.

Anyway, Last night I pulled out my ff4ds and tried to get the pink tail again. I only tried it once before but they took out my team. I fought them with sirens and got the pink tail on the second try. I'm going to try and get the rest of the tails and start the game over. (for those of you who don't know, you keep the tails when starting a new game after beating it)

EDIT: Just checked and it took me 36 hours to grind up to lvl 78 as well as get everyone's ultimate weapons.

There's two hidden bosses. You have to beat the game once for them to appear, and they only appear on the next playthrough.

One shows up at the paladin shrine after the Giant of Bab-il, and the other is in the Moon face I think. That one is severely difficult though.(Oh yeah, you also need Dark Matter which is stolen from Zeromus)

Ok, I have been browsing this site for about 3 years now, and love the constant flow of fantastic works that come through here, but I just got done listening to your magfest, and I had coldchills running up my back the entire time. FF IV is by far my favorite game, and I have always loved the music, and to take such Nostalgic melodies and bring such an epic feel. It is a dream come true. I was ecstatic when I followed the process of them converting FF IV into a 3D format for DS, and I am even more excited now with the music being remixed by the amazing talent that you all are. I am eternally grateful to you all for putting your skills together and accomplishing this astonishing feat.

Curious about something regarding the Fabul's Men Choir, OA. Are you using the initial voice auditions that some of us sent or have you revamped the concept completely since then? Just wondering 'cause I was one of the people who sent you some samples and hoping that they're still used.

The dudes who are in the Fabul Men's Choir are:

Malcos
BardicKnowledge
Moonlapse
Audio Fidelity
Mulan
Nutritious
Cyril the Wolf
OA
Swordbreaker
Isolinear Moogle
Jabberbox

More sent in their stuff, but they either were incomplete, or said they were going to redo their takes and never did. Kinda sad about that, because a few of them were pretty good, but c'est la vie.

Sad that a couple of them didn't really pursue this. Can't wait to listen to the final product, as this is going to be my first OCR credit ever despite being something minor. So that's something to check off my "to do before dying" list. :P

nah, this was completely my fault...i had a bunch of old sound drivers installed from two windows installations ago (i generally do the repair installation rather than a full install) that were competing constantly and i just couldn't find the last pieces that were freaking the system out. so i wiped and reinstalled on a better hard drive with better read and write times, hence better performance.

fl was all dicked up too because of a 3-gig switch i installed that didn't quite work right, so it was time to just start over. i copied out about 750 gigs onto a new drive and just wiped.

Well, since theres been projects that have fallen through on this site, and I have noticed many of these project threads, including this one, have been going on for quite awhile, I just assumed this was yet another limbo project. I said thirteen completed albums, not projects.

And it is a lot; most professional bands don't produce that many albums (many of which are multi-disc) in six years' time.

Yes, there are tons of people online who decide that they're gonna do a giant fan artbook, or game, or comic, or radio play, whatever, and don't get it off the ground or let it dwindle... but generally projects don't make it to this forum in the first place if they haven't shown adequate planning, organization, and progress (as shown in the Album Project Guidelines). Saying "I'm gonna remix all of FFIV," presenting a track list, asking a few people and then showing no activity is one thing... having completed album art, a ton of finished tracks (with preview), a near-complete to-do list and a still-active thread is another.

I can't wait to check out the preview tracks on 8-Bit Radio when I get home! I'm really psyched for that and the interview.

I hope the bLiNd track that's gonna be played is the one from the MAGFEST preview! :P

True. If any of us find out that another one of us leaked tracks before the release, we will stealthly sneak into your home, rape your babies, and then set you on fire... well, maybe not the raping, but the fire will definitely happen... pretty fire...

I heard something about a mass remaster going down for the tracks to help keep the mix consistent. Is there going to be crossfading (a la Kong in Concert) as well?

prophetik
05-19-2009, 02:01 PM
lol. mine's already crossfaded, i wimped out and did a fade-out at the end of the track. i thought it sounded cool until jay started cracking up the first time he heard it.

i don't know about the crossfading - the only track i had planned for that was maybe anmo and zeromus - since they are meant to be paired - but i can mess - we'll see

oh and brad i love your wimpy fade on long :P hehe

the wait will be over soon! - but still working

I'd totally forgotten this project was going on until I poked around OCR for the first time in months just a little while ago. What a great surprise to see that not only is it happening, but it's almost done! Awesome. Can't wait to hear the finished project!

junly 18th?

I thought I was the only one that considered junly a month. :nicework:

But seriously, I'm so glad this all came together better than I could have ever dreamed, because it makes all us people who took part in it, or even took part in watching it grow through the forums, interviews, and presentations, feel like they were involved in something grand; something beyond just the parts that make it up. I can't wait for the next projects helmed by these talented folks, and involving such good people, to take off.

Oh, and I swear I'll not leak a thing with that preview zip. You can be 110% it wont get out...unless the king of sweden comes through my window. It's cool that I leave my computer in a DMZ with no firewall, antivirus, or portblocking and leave kazaa on 24/7 sharing my C drive, right? :-P

Pretty sure the more glow-y ones signify that the track was just recently finished.

OA
05-20-2009, 11:44 PM
glowy ones mean i haven't received a .wav yet- Cain is having computer issues so that one is excused, and Zeromus is in the final stages of mastering. :-)

i'm starting to encode and tag them all into MP3s, so we'll have something for mixers to check out very soon! :-D

(I do get a minute every now and then on other peoples comp to check up on things)

Just so you know, I think the latest wip is good enough if I'm holding you up, I can scrounge the wav in target disk mode, then if you just fade the outro out it'll do imo (and do that secret intro thing we discussed :p), or you can wait until my exams are over and i have time to take my comp to apple. Up to you.

audio fidelity
05-21-2009, 12:47 AM
make it happen guys - things are moving quickly - but cain it's not really ideal for oa to try to add stuff to a mastered track - he would have to possibly readjust the levels to make sure it didn't clip

Level 99
05-21-2009, 01:24 PM
Well, I know you typed it that way on purpose Brad, because there is an edit button. It is a mystical button that does magical things, and the one who holds the power to use it will rule Mordor...wait, what was I talking about again? Oh, right: Junly.

I was wondering...do we want to have a release party(or parties)? I know it's just a fanciful idea, but just as MAGfest brought some of us together who worked on the project, I think it'd be awesome for people involved who might be close to each other to get together when the thing is released and hold a shindig. I'd totally throw a listening party that night: 3 hours of FF4 remixes + beer + remixers = epic. Or maybe we should all throw individual parties and turn our speakers out the windows so the neighborhood can hear the music (OA, I know at least Zeromus would help put the little one to sleep!) Anyway, I'd want to celebrate it. Or maybe I'm just dreaming big dreams of fun times....

OA

we could do it up shizz style and have an IRC listening party. When people comment on songs.

We'd need Snappleman there though. It's just not a listening party without him.
