We like/love the game's music. Therefore it is project time!
The plan is to get a good, cohesive album. We don't feel the need to do every track in the game just because it is there. If that's how it ends up, cool, but the focus is on quality rather than quantity.

Normally, I want to strangle people when they talk of remixing Final Fantasy or other Square games, because they get way too much love in comparison to other games, but this is the Final Fantasy game that I just can't deny.

It had the most amazing music, just mind blowing, and I am excited about this.

I do agree we could use moar metahl and teknoz on this; we have some great piano and orchestral arrangements, but it'd be cool to balance things out. I will plead with the DoD posse and see if any of them would be down.

A metal version of Kingdom of Baron would be Epic. The song is begging for chugs and pinch harmonics. Ring of Bomb would also lend itself really well to a downtuned style.

Well the new game does have a few slightly redone tunes in some regard. For instance Theme of Sorrow has a new bitching instrumentation on the DS version. Rydia's Theme and the Theme of Love sound incredible on the DS version.

We're keeping it old school and basing the arrangements off of the original OST. It's just easier to keep things simple and to pay homage to the original that we all are loved so much.

Dude, don't worry. The DS soundtrack simply has upgraded sounds, and a few songs have slightly different instrumentation. That's all. As far as composition, they're almost exactly the same. (Except, of course, the new Theme of Love pop vocal track.)

Really, I don't see how you could possibly base an arrangement off the SNES tunes without also being derivative of the DS versions.

In some of the cases, the synths they used in the DS version are a regression.

Anyways, I updated the little chart with some new WIPs. I spent a huge chunk of my weekend on the Artwork. I am totally behind on it, but I think it'll be worthwhile when it's all done. :-)

My question is... is there still time to join. I can usually get WIPs into a good working form quite quickly. So... there we have it. I'm not gonna start quite yet but I have 25 days, which is more then enough. to get a final WIP.

So I probably should've mentioned this earlier, but I just got a new job in a different state and have thus been kind of busy with the move and the job and so on. More importantly though, I'm again left without access to a piano. I'm definitely in the market for a digital piano, but it'll most likely be some time before I get the funds.

Hey I just recently had to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows due to a bombardment of viruses and spyware, so right now I'm currently working towards getting my recording setup situated

I didn't lose any important files/demos (I hope) so this shouldn't delay anything too much

Now that I know for a fact my Chronotrigger mix has been accepted, I can now close that.

That reduces my number of mixes open from 3 to 2. That would be my FF4 tune and my DKC2 tune; my DKC2 is completely done from MY end (still waiting for someone else to do something on it), so in reality I really only have one open now.

So now I can focus on this one, yay.

they always said that 2 was dumbed down in the states. I love the ol' school feel - but i haven't tried to play the ol' snes version in sometime thanks to the gba and ds version. not sure if it would still hold up to the gba. ds was nice - especially all the added stuff - but i'm still more of a fan of the original where your just a dot on the screen that moves.

Sadly I don't have an snes and I don't plan on getting one. I got into games later in life so my initial exposure to them was the playstation era. Which means that anything before that doesn't hold any sedimental value.

Well, now I am more excited about this project being complete. I am near the end of Final Fantasy IV on the Nintendo DS... and I won't spoil it, but man... it's the best FF remake there is. They added something towards the end that will blow you away and impress you. All of you need to play it and beat it. :)

If anyone's still interested about versions... between the SNES, PS1, and Famicom (the original 'hardtype' one) versions, play the Famicom one - there's an excellent fan translation out there, plus it has the challenge and a few other small bits that were taken out of the SNES version. Look for FF4, not FF2. Just trying so save you all from buying the PS1 version thinking it was the hardtype version (not even close) or an accurate translation (it's better than the SNES's, but the fan translation is best, IMO). I haven't played the other versions... Jade, what's this added bit at the end of the DS version you're talking about? Think it's on YouTube?

DS version is cool. Leveled everyone up to 99, the annihilated Zeromus with Slow and physical attacks (after stealing the Dark Matter of course). Finally got 9999 on Rydia's Mathemagical Minute too. Great version. Also, this looks epic. Great album art (Rydia is hot as usual) and can't wait. Deadline's approachin', people!

Neko and Audix, i've penciled you two gentlemen in for the fight tracks. Consider the end of the month your deadline to have a Very Strong WIP(tm).

I still need to hear back from 2Radical about the status of his Fight 1 track which died out, but things should be ok.

The way things are going, I think we might as well finish all of the tracks. I need to figure out how to accomplish this while still staying within the deadline set, but Tales project needs to have time to shine first anyways, and there is plenty that needs to be done even after all the tracks are sent to me.

As for WIPs, I expect Airship, Cecil becomes a Paladin, and Rydia to be done within a week, and the rest of the existing WIPs have either spoken with me and moved my heart of stone with their sad stories, or have requested assistance in finishing.

This project has been great so far, and I'm very excited to share it with the community. 25 completed tracks in 8 months is totally kickass, so keep up the hard work, everyone, we are doing awesome! :-D
