Welcome to FLMC 10! (http://ocr.flmc.googlepages.com)
(Link to website)

Yes, that's right folks, it's time for another ~fabulous~ round of the Fruity Loops Music Competition!

This month's source is
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3096/flmcxcv2.png

Here is the soundtrack in all of its NESish glory:

http://www.zophar.net/download.php?file=nsf/ff1.zip

If your music player does not yet play chiptune files, OCR's own ChipAmp'll get you up and running. (http://www.chipamp.org/)

If you're lazy and just wanna make a MIDI rip, the MIDI's are in here somewhere. (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/index-af.html) (HOWEVER, if you actually submit a MIDI rip, I will personally hunt you down and eviscerate your reproductive organs. Not to mention it will be immediately disqualified.)

A quick recap of the rules for FLMC:

Music entries for this competition are arranged in FL Studio, using only default synths and samples. No external VSTs or samples (except for the sample pack) are allowed.

This is a competition open to mixers from all walks of life, be you the goddamn DarkeSword or someone with ABSOLUTELY no experience in doing this kind of thing WHATSOEVER.

* No Sytrus, DX10, Wasp, Soundfont Player, etc. (I can't remember if we were changing this so it stays for now)
!@#$%* You are allowed to use the FLMC10 Pack (provided by DDRKirby) (http://ewfrwafdasefsa.awefwa.waef). or here (Sendspace) (http://www.awefwa.wefwef) to download it.*%$#@! COMING SOON
* You may enter as many songs as you want.
* You may collaborate with other entrants.
* You must provide a FLP file (preferably in the form of a zipped project file). The only exception for this is demo participants (who cannot save FLP's).
* Demo version submissions are definitely allowed and fully encouraged.
* NO MIDI RIPS OR YOUR BALLS ARE FORFEIT

You may either post your submissions in the thread, or email them to OCR.FLMC@gmail.com

For anyone that does not yet have any form of Fruity Loops installed but has any inclination to remix some badass Zelda tunes should head over to http://demo.flstudio.com/ to get the demo edition of FL Studio.

And last, the submission deadline is MAY 21st, 2008, 11:59PM EST.

Good luck

Is it a bad thing that the first thing I started doing with the samples was a duck hunt remix?

RocketSniper
04-27-2008, 06:04 AM
Apparently it is, because the thread died as soon as I said so.

I'm at about 50 seconds on my current entry... trying out a color coding system to see if it'll help me find tracks more easily.

So far it's working.

DDRKirby(ISQ)
04-27-2008, 09:33 AM
eh? you mean color-coding your patterns in the playlist? I always did that at the end. As long as you keep them in order and categorized it shouldn't be that hard.

I mean, doesn't matter if everything is colorized, if they're all in a huge jumbled mess.

RocketSniper
04-28-2008, 03:28 AM
Percussion tracks are black, filter tracks are shades of grey, the lead is green or yellow, depending on which instrument is playing it, red's the bass, blue's the uber-high pitched squeaky thing, orange is my filler instrument.

I've got a color coding system =D

DDRKirby(ISQ)
04-29-2008, 01:10 AM
i personally like to have the colors match the tone and frequency of the instrument. So I'll always use a deep blue for my bass patterns.

Then again I only do this at the end, and only for nonmessy projects, and i'll make them all pretty gradients~

Crap. Dead end. I hate starting over...

RocketSniper
05-04-2008, 01:39 PM
Argh! After having had four versions of fruity loops, you would think that I would have learned not to paste channel events while FL was in 'play' mode...

There goes an hour :-x

RocketSniper

Okay, so the i will vocals fit strangely well.

This is not a final entry.

You know what beats a double post? A TRIPLE post.

I don't think I'll be able to come up with something.
But I will vote for this.

Er... Shouldn't this thread be in some other place?

Technically it should have been moved to the competitions forum.... but I guess it gets more views this way?

Technically it should have been moved to the competitions forum.... but I guess it gets more views this way?

This thread gots 1019 views while making this post. Compared to the FLMC9, which has passed voting stage and is open for a few months, I don't think 5600 views is unreachable for the topic here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it won't be reached.

BUT: Here MORE people see this thread and hopefully some more will participate (in remixing and or voting). We know more when voting has ended.

Shit guys, I totally dropped what ball there was on this.

It's been a pretty crazy month (what with the end of the semester and all) and I'd bet it's been crazy for other people too.

What would you guys say to extending the deadline to the end of the month? (That's full two weeks from now)

RocketSniper
05-19-2008, 07:20 AM
I vote yes... I'm still trudging slowly through the music-making process... this song is getting to be more of a pain than the metroid one, simply from lack of direction... :?

DDRKirby(ISQ)
05-24-2008, 09:34 AM
well considering you're the only person who's actually doing anything.

take as long as you wish~

RocketSniper

I'll post the mix later tonight, busy working on two papers at once.

There seriously isn't another person with an entry? Even one that's only partially finished?

RocketSniper
06-01-2008, 06:18 AM
I decided to keep this one pretty short. For once. (http://rocketsniper.googlepages.com/FF1_3.mp3)

Also, here (http://rocketsniper.googlepages.com/ff1_3.zip) is the .zip file.

DDRKirby(ISQ)
06-01-2008, 01:54 PM
your zip file link should point here:
http://rocketsniper.googlepages.com/FF1_3.zip

my friend has a partial entry. but it's partial.

RocketSniper
06-01-2008, 02:38 PM
Fixed. also, even partial entries would be appreciated. I wanna see something out of someone here :|

Well, I hate to say this, but it's been two weeks since the last post.

It's been fun...

If there's still interest in finishing this round, then I'm willing to do an entry. If not, then It's the best to close the thread and, not at last place, congrats RocketSniper.

Flexstyle

Dunno if there's interest for this or not still, but here ya go (http://www.mediafire.com/?ytat2njkzyd). Just a quick lil' two hour job, remixing the title theme. Now that I've got the MIDI file (and learned the song :D), I'm totally doing another remix of this piece sometime!

RocketSniper
07-31-2008, 11:51 PM
Man, I shouldn't have deleted this bookmark. NOW we get interest in the compo.

*faceplant*

In any case, methinks this exploded.

DDRKirby(ISQ)
09-10-2008, 06:17 AM
wait seriously...here I am reading back through old FLMC threads and this one got resurrected?

...rofl.

it's actually like an actual entry too (though i'm not digging the oh-so-heavy compression). that's ridiculous. I mean seriously.

I don't know what happened here, but....

We have two songs (Rocketsniper and Flexstyle). This means we have a contest. I have both songs on my computer, so I can upload them if they're down. Here's the deal:

You have one week to finish a song. You should follow the rules like written in the first post, but you have to

OCTOBER 6th, 2008, 11:59PM EST.

to finish your song. Entries should be posted here.
At tuesday 7 october I start voting and then voting ends on saturday 11 october. If I don't receive any vote, I decide who win this, but I don't see that happen.
The winner will be announced on sunday 12 or monday 13 october.

Let's get to work.

I don't know I'll be able to do a song. Maybe....

After that.... I'm not planning to start FLMC11, since this one almost failed. If someone else want to do that, he can post a reply and then he may decide how/what/who/where the next round will be.

Oh hey, this thing.

I had about 4 different .flp files which went nowhere.

I guess FF1 didn't really work out for me. I may try another entry, but I'm having yet another busy semester.

Bundeslang

After 5 months, I come up with an one hour entry (but not a MIDI-Rip):

Zip File:
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Bundeslang-ChipludeFLMC10.zip

MP3 File:
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Bundeslang-ChipludeFLMC10.mp3

Here are the two songs which are created by Rocketsniper and Flexstyle:
Flexstyle:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ytat2njkzyd

Rocketsniper:
http://rocketsniper.googlepages.com/FF1_3.zip
http://rocketsniper.googlepages.com/FF1_3.mp3

And the FLMC10 Remix Pack provided by DDRKirby(ISQ), for those who wants to submit an entry (before Monday):
http://files.filefront.com/flmc10packrar/;10055859;/fileinfo.html

If any of the links are down (I tested them yesterday and then they worked fine), just reply and I'll upload them to my site (if there's some space left, otherwhise I create some space).

Bundeslang

The Deadline has passed.

We have three songs:
Flexstyle
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Flexstyle_-_An_Intro_to_the_Rest_of_.zip
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Flexstyle_-_An_Intro_to_the_Rest_of_.mp3

RocketSniper:
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/RocketSniper-FF1_3.zip
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/RocketSniper-FF1_3.mp3

Bundeslang:
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Bundeslang-ChipludeFLMC10.zip
http://bambombim.googlepages.com/Bundeslang-ChipludeFLMC10.mp3

Listen to them and then you can vote. The deadline for voting is

OCTOBER 13th, 2008, 2:59PM EST.

You should vote your top 3 to me by Private Message, or mail it to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer PM).

Participants can only vote for other participants, but they receive an added first place if they vote. They should send their top 2 to me.

This means I will bring the results in the morning/afternoon in my timezone at that monday. If I don't receive any votes, the winner is going to be simulated by a computer program (which is a better solution as let me win by default).

After that.... I'm not planning to start FLMC11, since this one almost failed. If someone else want to do that, he can post a reply and then he may decide how/what/who/where the next round will be.

RESULTS
At the third place, Flexstyle with three points

Second, RocketSniper with four point

And the winner is Bundeslang with five points.

I didn't get many votes, only one except myself. I didn't see this coming, but the number of votes (which was logical for this time (5 months after the two others entered) is a reason. Myself I prefered RocketSniper or Flexstyle to win this, but yeah, it's my first win.
I'm not starting a new version of it, if you want to enter a contest, you are highly encouraged to enter the PRC Contest.
PRC131 ends sunday.
