What I've heard of this stuff I've really liked. Can anyone recommend some names? All I know is Brian Eno right now.

I think some of bLiNd's music covers this, but I'm not sure about titles and albums. I'm usually half asleep when listening to them.

Check out David Arkenstone's music (he's a New Age musician). Also, maybe look into acquiring some music from Tomorrowland and Futureworld in Disney's Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center, respectively. I have purchased some of the music from those parks and the Epcot stuff in particular is really good for what you seem to be looking for.

Ulrich Schnauss. Boards of Canada.
That should get you started.

I was just at tomorrow land a couple weeks ago and I don't think they use that type of music anymore :/. Or, at least I didn't notice it. I was just telling my wife when I was there how much I loved that stuff when I was a kid.

The "Echoes" podcast is an excellent place to start, as it tends to specialize in this kind of music.
I don't really consider Boards of Canada or Arkenstone to be this genre... the former is more electronic/idm and Arkenstone is new age.

Tholen - Sternklang (http://www.cycliclaw.com/20thcycle.html)
Symphonies Of The Planets (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001VWG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)
Not sure if that's what you were looking for, but there you go.

I assume you mean non-OCRemix stuff. I wasn't actually aware he had any and now seems like a good time to give it a shot.

Not quite what I was looking for. Anything with a lot of repetition, fast riffs, or prominent drums is no good. The focus is mainly on filling up the sonic spectrum with broad, atmospheric sounds. I really liked Ulrich Schnauss's sound though.

Closer. And I really like it. Does this mean I have to start liking New Age? I've heard so much bad about it though!

Going by a couple of the samples from the first one, it seems to be somewhat close to what I'm looking for. I didn't and won't steal the second one to listen to it so I'm out of luck there.

Spiritualized -
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
(more spacey than ambient but whatever, it's good)
EDIT: Also, Eluvium, and Stars of the Lid. Both are fantastic for indulging in sound.

Most of Arkenstone's stuff is pretty melodic, not very ambient if you ask me. In fact it all sounds very videogameish.

Heres something I was working on a while ago. The only non-4/4 time signature song I've written (not finished)..

I have David Arkenstone's album "Citizen of the World", which I like quite a bit. I've also borrowed some of his earlier albums from the library, but they all seemed rather lacking in comparison.
As far as new age being bad - I don't think the genre itself is inherently flawed. A lot of bland, uninspired stuff may have squeezed its way into the category to ride the height of its popularity, but that's no reason to discount the gems.
To get back on topic - if you aren't already familiar with it, you might want to grab a copy of the soundtrack to the original Myst game, if you can find it. It's been a staple of my listening collection for years.
Also, since you're worried you might be becoming a new age fan - there's actually some pre-new age stuff that's quite worth checking out. Dig up almost anything you can from a label called ECM Records, in particular from the 70's (although they've had a steady output ever since). Some names to look for would be Jan Garbarek, Eberhard Weber, and Ralph Towner. Very interesting, understated, European-style ambient jazz that sort of pre-emptively outdid the new age movement at its own game.

I'll second what zircon said: the "Echoes" podcast is fantastic. Here's the stuff they have that you don't have to pay for. (http://www.echoes.org/online2.html)
Also, it's not exactly what you're looking for, but you'll probably enjoy pixietricks/Jill's album. It tends to be pretty melodic, but it's also extremely atmospheric.

Not all of these have a space related theme, but you may enjoy them none the less.
