The People's Remix Competition 125
PRCv5-21
Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! (www.doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/PRCcommercial.wmv) Last compo's Golden Sun theme saw a very hefty turnout - a grand total of SEVEN entries came to seek domination amidst the Venus Lighthouse. It housed quite a fair amount of trance, and amidst the competition Flexstyle pulled through with his first win with his own genre-adaptation of the source tune.
The only connections between said GBA RPG and the source game for PRC125 is that they're both dependant on 2D sprites and have both existed in some form or other on Nintendo's purple handheld. This is all the more appropriate for this franchise coming as pretty much everything about the titular character is completely disconnected. :D We're looking at the first outing for the most famous videogame icon to spawn from France!

Here's my choice for the source tune for PRC125. It's (this piece of music) in Rayman 1, probably the first serious videogame I ever played. I'm still a big Rayman fan. Anyways, the original (at least the PC version, which was the one I played) had some pretty neat music. Sorry I couldn't find any MIDI files, but hopefully everyone can play this one by ear fairly easily--I tried to pick a somewhat easy tune.
I'm still totally thrilled about winning :D

MIDI (http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/PRC125_bandland.mid) | MP3 (http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/PRC125_bandland.mp3)
First things first - since I'm now undertaking work experience, the deadlines for the mixing and voting stages are later than the usual. Now that that's out of the way... hell yes, Rayman rocks, yadda yada and so on and so forth. ;)
GOOD LUCK!

PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness.
Limitations at ThaSauce require your entry to be 6MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed.
Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC125) by NEXT SATURDAY, July 26th at 11:59 am Eastern US Time.
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix.
Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted.
Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score.
The winner of the previous contest can't take part but their vote will be doubled.Doulifee's PRC Archives! (http://doulifee.com/prc/PrcSong/prc.php) If you need help with hosting your mix, contact myself or Doulifee, and we'll help you out.

If I enter this, I will not vote for it, otherwise I also won't vote because I'm on vacation then. Maybe...

You have MIDIs of Rayman that aren't limited or in short supply? Grab the toilet paper 'cuz you're the shit.
OMG, you stole my idea! I'm in it, man, I'm in it. Edit: Oh, this is the first Rayman... that's cool, I'm still in, unless otherwise declined.

Not a whole lotta activity here, is there?

It doesn't seem that way. I have some free time tonight. I'll see if I can get anything going.

Heh, at the rate this is going you may be able to get your first win, Chicken!
Not necessarily. Remember, I can still extend the competition deadline by a maximum of 48 hours. So if by the deadline tomorrow there is still not much activity, the first 24-hour extension might be the case. And it stimulated many a PRC in the recent past. :p

Not a lot of creativity there last night. Will try something now.

I was interested as soon as I noticed this thread. I remember Rayman very well (although I lost the game a few moves ago). Unfortunately, tonight is the first chunk of time I've really gotten to work on it. (Rexy, if you were to extend the deadline, that'd be sweet.)
So, um, just wanted to post and say that Flex and Chicken and Salluz aren't the only ones interested. But my schedule got randomly chopped up this past week. (And I'm a total noob, so my remix probably won't be much. But practice is good.)
So...just fyi.

Everyone was a total noob at one time.
Check out Crash and Burnout. I guarantee your mix will be better.
In my defense, it was made for OLR
Edit: Due to job woes, I will be unable to sub my mix on time. It looks there will be an extension anyways, and I hope that we get a decent turnout with the extra day or two.

Meh...I'm with Chicken on this...
My planned block of remixing time keeps getting interrupted, and it's not very likely that I'll finish it on time.
Just seconding Chicken's post.
Well, 24 hours of extra time has been added on anyway. Will this stimulate anyone? ;)

EDIT: Nevermind, i get it now...just noobism here...

Still working on my remix...I feel so noobish.
What format does it have to be? What's the kbit limit?
munchi
07-27-2008, 01:46 PM
it must be in mp3 format and I believe you can have up to 5 Megs ie 5000kb. And it's ok. There are two people in this world, noobs that feel noobish and noobs that feel confident. And it takes a while to build up your confidence and then one bad song and strip it all away so don't feel bad...this was supposed to be uplifting advice but I stayed up all night watching Fruits Baskets with my sister and then Idiosyncrisy and then I started to work on my song so I'm a little fried.

Thank you, and I've been working on my remix al night (although I did grab four hours of sleep). So I know what you mean, a little fried.

There's only 50 minutes left, so someone better enter a song so this contest can have three entries.

I'll be entering in the last 15 minutes or so. I'm going to host it on Tindeck.
You can't host it on Tindeck - it must be hosted at ThaSauce. The voting system is programmed that way.

OH.
Thank you Rexy, for clarifying that...
Whichever happens, at the end of it all we still got two entries. This still isn't enough for a voting spree yet, so we're going to have to extend this for a final set of 24 hours. Anyone competing, rushing for an entry and yet feeling as if they failed to do so, now's your chance to polish up your entry before this time tomorrow.

I just went to upload it and my connection was too slow and it didn't take!
:(
EDIT: Ha, guess that works out then...
How big's the file in KB? That could also serve as a contributing factor as to why it didn't get hosted.
If it's below 6000, then you can keep trying. If you're still having issues in a few hours' time, then I would suggest you host the file elsewhere and get someone else to upload the file. I'll change the name records accordingly.

It was 4.95 mb (dunno how many kb) and my connection's really slow now, so I guess I'll just enter it earlier tomorrow. (Actually, since I'm going to summer school, I have to enter it before 7am.)
4.95 translates to 5069KB, so you're in the clear. I really hope you participate in this - newbies are a real breath of fresh air here :)

Actually, I believe the filesize limit is actually 6 megabytes. If you're at 4.X megabytes, you've got plenty of headroom.

Seven minutes after the dead I finish a couple of tweaks to my song, such as an extended intro, extended beat drop, better balancing, and a slightly revised flute part. I put it on here: myspace.com/munchioo3 (http://www.myspace.com/munchioo3) and we can consider this a bonus track. And also a WIP 'cause I think I'm going to try to get this onto the main site.

Voted! Good job everyone!
Hah, I was here for five alright but had to face a cruel interruption of a long chat with mother. But oh well...
The mixing stage is over. The voting stage has begun! To cast your vote, please visit the ThaSauce link (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC125) and listen in to the four entries. Then once done, you scroll down to the voting form at the bottom of the page. Select three entries and rank them from first to third with a reasoning attached. Contestants are encouraged to vote as they will automatically get three points added to their score. The vote for PRC124's winner (Flexstyle) is doubled, so make sure you've done enough to impress him too. You have until Thursday, July 31st at 11:59AM to make your vote. The winner will get to choose the source tune for PRC126!

I have now voted! Good luck, everyone!
Alright, I'm here on time to provide the results! Now, out of the whole batch of you, who made their way ahead to the Blue Mountains? Who took a wrong turn and ended up at Mr Sax's Hullabaloo? And who got stumped by the spiked quavers anyway?
Total number of mixes - 4
Total number of votes - 8
Highest possible score - 24
Chickenwarlord is bequeathed another last place wooden spoon with 9 points.
mousemuffins made a squeaking start into third place with 11 points.
munchi strutted as far as second place with 18 points.
And the winner of PRC125 is Rexy with 22 points!
...
...you what? I have to pick a PRC source tune on my birthday? I thought I escaped that last year! Nonetheless, I'll settle down with a few choices and take a look at some appropriate selections for PRC126. I have a basic idea on the videogame system to go for at least.
With that over, the Great Protoon is back in its place, and Rayman's world is at peace. I'll see you all tomorrow for the next compo.

Hopfully, Rexy, you already know that I love you and your abilities...so forgive me if I skip all the gushing and congratulations and just get to the part where I scream "NO!" really loud.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, now that that's out of my system, GOOD JOB EVERYONE!! I'm also surprised at the number of votes! PRC 124 and 120 had 9 votes and both of those had more entries! To have double the votes vs number of entries, I don't know if that's happened in a long time! So hurrah to us for attracting people!...or something. Ok, I think I just crossed into rambling territory so SEE YOU ALL TOMORROW!!
