Only thing that amazes me, is the fact it took this long for them to release it on the Virtual Console. Oh well, now I'll just hope the classics would some time hit XBLA too (I don't own a Wii).

I hate using the Gamecube controller for NES games. Hate hate hate hate it.
I already have working copies of the last two. No need to buy those.
I don't really like each and every one of the first six. No need to buy them all.
There are more emulation/port issues with that version than I care to count.

Yep, pretty much. I returned mine because of the issues with it.

Why does this seem so counter productive?

I mean I guess this is what Miyamoto and Iwata meant when they said that they haven't forgotten the core gamers.

I liked all of the original Mega Man games (though I never cared as much for 2 *dodges stone*), but the GCN controller never quite worked for the Anniversary Collection. The GCN SNES style controller was perfect for the X collection (you could also set it up to play like the Zero games when played through the GB Player), but the 1-8 collection was uniquely bad compared to the PS2 and XBox versions of the same.

At any rate, I will be downloading Mega Man tomorrow if only to show support for future Mega Man releases on the Virtual Console. Mega Man 2 should be next month, as well as Mega Man 9. I'd love for Inafune to release a Mega Man X9 in the Mega Man X1-3 style at some point if Mega Man 9 goes over as well as it probably will.

Short version? Support such Capcom releases to secure even better future ones.

Never mind the fact that some of the games got seriously butchered, of course. ... Bah. Who am I kidding? Yeah, I got a copy of the Mega Man AC for PS2 (not GC). Despite all the glitchy crap and missing stuff, it's still a keeper, though why anyone would want GC versions of the original or X collections at all is beyond me... (infernal GC controller).

Earthbound has been on that list for almost a year.

It's been on the list for a while, but it was actually rated by the ESRB just a month or two ago. So, while that still doesn't mean it's definitely coming, there's an infinitely better chance of it than there was a year ago.

And yes, Mega Man is definitely a purchase for me tomorrow; the first Virtual Console game I'll have bought since Kirby 64 back in March. Granted I don't like the first Mega Man nearly as much as 2 or 3, but still, the first three games are just awesomeness.

Um... :?

Believe it or not, there are some areas where this happens. Both Taito Legends and Taito Legends 2 for the PC use ROMs that can be played in MAME. We're talking ROMs, right down the proper MAME naming format when you zip up the folders in the TL and TL2 installtions.

Imagist
08-04-2008, 06:11 AM
But he's talking about the Mega Man games. The Mega Man games were never officially licensed as ROMs, outside being emulated for the Anniversary Collection. And if he owns the original games, why is he talking about buying them on the Virtual Console, anyway?

My "Um..." still stands.

My "Um..." still stands.

The prevailing idea amongst the internet is that the ROMs are legal to have if you own the game. If this is not entirely the case, one could plead ignorance and arguably succeed.

Also, if he owns the original games, why buy the VC? Maybe because his NES stopped working like TEN FUCKING YEARS AGO FUCK. I know MINE did.

In that case I wouldn't see the logic behind paying again to play something he already owns, or even considering paying for it. But crap, this is getting into the same trap as the Chrono Trigger DS thread now.

I just wish that I didn't have to wait thru Mega Man 1 first (not a big fan of the original). But 2 is on my list of top 20 games I ever played. As for the GC version of Anniversary Collection, I got it, loved it, and played it until it became inexplicably full of scratches. I blame one of my 3 little sisters...

Just so it's known: I don't condone pirating except in some cases. If people are going to do so, there really isn't too much you can say to stop them. Best to tell them where so they can go and get it over with. I, for one, paid 40 bucks for the original game when it game out, and I bought the anniversary collection when it came out, first for the PS2, and later the XboX version. I have paid for Mega Man 2 three times in my life, so therefore, I believe I should not have to do so again. I technically cannot pirate MM2, as I've given full retail value money for it...three times!

The only other time I can condone pirating is if you are looking for something that otherwise isn't realistically availble. Let's say, oh, you want to watch the old M.A.S.K. cartoon from the 80's. It has not been released on DVD in the USA, and you really want to watch it, cause hey, it's M.A.S.K., and Robot Chicken's raping of Trakker and Miles renewed your interest in it. It's not available here, so downloading someones rips from Germany may be the only option available to you.

I'll admit it's a truly grey area open for debate, and I saying it on OCR, so I've no doubt it will be, but I love Mega Man as much as anyone, thought I'll not pay for MM2 a FOURTH time!

No, the blame rest on Nintendo. As I mentioned, SNK and Hudson had both announced SamSho II (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/samurai-shodown-ii-slices-into-virtual-console-next-week/) and Ys Book I & II (http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:KrgdmClJeZ0J:vc-pce.com/usa/e/title/ys.html+Ys+Book+I+%26+II+virtual+console&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us) (cached because the actual page is now gone) for August 4, neither of which came out.

I also keep trying to slide under things. :|
