Excellent mix here.
Dr. Fruitcake sticks to a strong tropical theme here, while keeping the origninal tracks completely intact. Anyone who's ever played a mario game will be easily be able to identify at least some of the themes. The sound quality is high also [from what I could tell, anyway, I'm deaf in the left ear]. The song hardly ever drops off from its energetic pace.

Seriously, I compliment you on your awesome arrangement skillzzz. This is one CREATIVE PIECE OF HOT ASS. It is just awesome, and when I heard that Yoshi's story part I was just groovin. You get 50 brownie points.

I think I saw this one in WIP form at some point, and it wasn't too impressive then. But let's have a look...
*downloads*
hmm... I have a midi of this from vgmusic.com. It's an okay remix, but not the best. I'd probably like this more if some of the soundfonts didn't sounds so much like my computer's GM sounds.
Just my opinion though.
I grabbed this from VGMix the other day, and it blew my socks off. Maybe it was because I was in the Caribbean mindset after playing Tropico all day, but this is one hell of a toe tapper.
Only a couple of minor things that would keep me from giving this 100% in an instant - first off, I felt several of the songs used in the medley could've been given more play time. The Yoshi's Story bits at the end, for instance, would benefit from being a bit longer - I think you'll be hard-pressed to find someone that doesn't like Kondo's beautiful Yoshi theme.
Listening through it again while I write this, the bit from Mario 64's water levels right before you go into Yoshi's Story deserved at least another bar or so too.
On the technical side of things, I have nothing to complain about. No clipping, crackling, or dissonant notes that my ears felt like mentioning to me.
Keep up the good work, man. I'd love to see more of this with something like the Mario 2 theme, or the Mario 64 credits.

Very nice, very nice indeed. I love the transition between the different songs...and the steel drums? Excellent. If I had a rating system of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I'd give it an 8! (Hey, there's ALWAYS room for improvement, but it's still really great!)

NICE WORK!
I suppose all of the featured Koji Kondo's works are absolutely meant to sound THAT way, because we all know his tendency towards bright latin-influenced compositions and arrangements... :)

wow, this is a very upbeat, happy remix.
I really don't think this belongs under just "Super Mario Bros." though. Its got elements from almost all of the Super Mario series, and even the main theme from Yoshi's Story towards the end.
Good arrangement, I like it a lot.

Omg, teh non-suck :D
Flows nicely, no instrument sounds out of place. This actually sounds like it could be used in a stage of Smash Bros. it's so good. Wow. I love this.
Dr. Fruitcake, get to work on making an MP3 out of your Super Smash Bros. Melee melody now :P

01-26-2004, 08:16 PM
I love this piece's sound. The mixing is great, the samples are good, and as someone said before, this was the kind of music that Sunshine really could have benefitted from. When I play new Mario games, I want new music, but I also want old songs redone. I especially like the part from the intro of Super Mario RPG- I've been waiting for something just like that. Great job with the Super Mario World ending theme too...The Yoshi's Story is nice...transition was a little hesitant for my taste, but I liked it.
This music makes me think of what an ending theme for an updated version of Super Mario All Stars would need (once you beat all the games within the game).

This mix is now in my winamp, with the "Repeat" button ON... :D
What an impressive amount of work (and talent)! 8O
Each tune's got his own atmosphere, but the whole thing is perfectly coherent.
As I am working (only 2/3 minutes a day, unfortunately...)
on a steel band style remix, I appreciate,
with its right value, I think, the tropical samples
(steel pad perfect @1'43, excellent marimba in the background @1'57;
but the one @2'44 sounds a little robotic...)
The drums track is very impressive too (listen to this little break @1'00, listen): bravo, bravo.
"One more time", says my winamp!
(once again, sorry for my so poor english... :? )

I really enjoy Dr. Fruitcake's work, and this song especially. I think this is one of his best works yet. If anyone enjoyed this song they should really go to his site. Although you'd probably want to go to the MP3 section. ('Tis where the best songs are.) If ya don't want to go to his profile and then click the link here it is: fcmidi.com And to the MP3 Section: http://www.fcmidi.com/mp3s.php

Whoa. It wasn't until the third or fourth listen that I recognized the Bowser Battle theme.
That said, the Bowser fight music in SMRPG is ripped straight out of SMB3. Since SMB3 is the pior game, I imagine it deserves credit.
The mix itself is par excellance. Whatever the hell that means.

I can easily picture this remix in the background of the next mario game. This is QUALITY work. An excellent tune. One thing bugs me a little though. The sounds are awesome, but in the back of my head there´s a voice saying these sound a bit "midish". I have a thing about soundfonts. I´d never use them myself, cause from what i´ve experienced they often sound like GM. Well, that´s just me maybe...
BUT this is a kickass song and the sounds are great also. I love this. The sounds remind me of the sounds of the original mario bits, and maybe thats why this could be from an official mario game. And that of course is a good thing.

I'm familiar with Dr. Fruitcake's work. And I must say this is one of his best. It's fighting with Boost Tarantino as my new favorite ReMix. My only gripe is that he should've used the level complete music as the ending instead. Other than that, I'd like to see his next ReMix top this one.

Absolutely incredible. I usually despise Uber mixes, but this one feels like it should be the menu music to tne next Mario adventure. Most assuredly, one of the best Mario ReMixes I've heard to date. The transitions are smooth, the instruments are well-chosen and used, and the pacing is extremely balanced so as to give proper homage to each theme presented. The Yoshi ending struck me a little sideways at first, but it's tropical roots definitely tied everything together for the themes this peice had. I'll give it twelve Kuribo's shoes out of fourteen. Why twelve and not five? Because Kuribo's shoes make up for their lack of usefulness and frequency with sheer coolness. That's why. :? Trust me.

I heard this one when he originally put it out on his site, and I must say it's still an awesome mix. Mario + Caribbean = 00ber ReMix.

In case I didn't get the point across with the subject of my post, I do love this mix very heartily. Seamless medley (well, almost) with playful snatches of recognizable themes sprinkled at just the right points. Key changes combined with the ambient sound make for an immersive mix that's playful and fruity, while also remaining a high-talent, polished work.
This is my current fave!

This remix is stunning. This remix is the sole reason I ever came to this site in the first place. I am no stranger to Dr. Fruitcake's work. As a matter of fact, I am listening to "Ridley's Revenge," also by the great Doctor, as I write this! It's a long story, but I actually came to this site from a FRENCH site. That French site had a remix page with about 30-50 great pieces, but this one was my favorite, HANDS-DOWN. At any rate, I loved this song, and noticed the "ocremix" blurb under the listed song. I decided to pay this site a visit, and badda-bing, badda-boom! But I digress.
I am amazed every time I listen to this remix at the flawlessness of it all. It sounds very professional, and it's a perfect medley of some of my favorite video game music. Anyway, Dr. Fruitcake is my hero, and this remix ROCKS. (Now listening to: The Occasional Beat (Strong Bad), by... Dr. Fruitcake! What a strange coincidence. :P )

I'm familiar with that which Dr. Fruitcake has done, and, of course, this is his best. In fact, I'm positive that this is my favorite mix on the whole of the site. I tip my red hat with an "M" on it, Doctor. Aside from my obsession with anything tropical, this peice alone stands alone as simply incredible. When I heard the Super Mario World credits theme, a feeling in my gut started to affect my emotions, and then when I heard the Mario Party 2 Western Land music in a full-fledge steel drum/xylophone/vibraphone combo, I nearly started crying. But that's just how I react to that kind of stuff... The sound quality is some of the best on the site. The transitions from song to song are artful.
I burned this remix and blast it in my car.
i love this remix, it starts right away with a theme (the tropical idea), and sticks with it. The author does not throw in random instruments that dont fit. Also, the Dr. Mario Cameo is awesome. When i listen to this remix i feel like making myself a strawberry daquiri and pouring sand on my feet.
THIS IS THE BEST!!!!

I love this one...it brings me back to my vacation paradise in Hawaii (it was a nice two weeks).... You can also watch in your mind all of mario's history unravel as the song plays through. My rating: awsomely good. :D

I'm new here, but it's absolutely AMAZING what you guys can do with you talents! I'm also a musician (just play for myself out of fun...keyboard) but this song seriously made tears come to my eyes and laughs of joy at parts! It's so melodic in parts, and it just flows together with harmonies I enjoy so much (4:22, 2:30, heck the WHOLE song!)

GOD THIS IS THE GREATEST. It really should be in a Mario game.
Really great. As Dr. Fruitcake said, he did a ReMix of several games like Yoshi's Story, Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG. I like his tropical resources and the arrangement. The instruments are played nicely and keep an enjoyable variation on the transition. Well, I´m feeling a young from an island! :)

Does anyone else notice how similar it sounds to the final lap on tracks from Diddy Kong Racing's Sherbert Island between 1:00-1:35? if I still had the game I could swear some parts sounded ripped straight from the game, with a hint of Super Mario Bros though.

I picture a CG Cinema where bowser is playin volleyball against mario. It's a nice day. Toad and Yoshi are swimmin just out of shore, Princess Toadstool is in a swimsuit on a beach chair under an umbrella, she has sunglasses on and she's sippin on a classy lemonade.
Bowser's turn to serve, he makes a quick professional like serve and mario returns it back but messes up and the volleyball lands on the princess, causing her to spill her lemonade on herself. She gets up and pounds him into the ground til only his head pops up. Mario is dizzy and confused. 3:40 mins now Toad and Yoshi are on a inflatable raft and they get washed ashore and somehow there's a starfish on toad's head. He panics and rams his big head onto yoshi's side which hurts. Yoshi turns around and gets mad and hints "what's the big deal?" toad is teary eyed and asks him to take the starfish off of him since he cant see what's irritating him (he DOES have a big head so he doesn't know and cant see for himself). Yoshi takes an egg and aims it at Toad's head. He gets the starfish off. Toad is sent flying skyhigh (from the egg's explosion) and he gets picked up by Lakitu and this is where the ending of the song is. Toad gets a view of the whole beach and gives Lakitu 2 coins for the ride.
Lol this song makes me imagine all sorts of other stuff as well. Tell me whatcha think of this story.
As for the song, I rate this one 10/10

Hi, I'm new here.
When I heard this song, I just had to register and put my opinion :D. This song is just really AMAZING! The variation of the songs and instruments throughout this song is very, very good. I'm quite an game music fanatic, and this song has different songs in it. But I didn't knew where those songs came from because I never heard of them before (f.e. the part that starts from 1:35, also at 2:30), which are also great. Well yea, it is mentioned exactly which songs are in it, but not at which point, so I decided to search for the music from the games that were mentioned :P
As mentioned before by other ppl, my favorite part is also the Super Mario World Credits at 2:00. It just gives me the chills everytime I listen to it. The melody is soo nice! It's truly amazing 8)
From all the songs I have, which are mostly from Mario and Zelda, this song defenietly sticks above the rest imo. The other song from Dr. Fruitcake, Zelda64 Party in the shop, is also very amazingly done. Dr. Fruitcake's remixes are just very pleasant to listen to. Keep up the good work!
This song = MASTERPIECE. 9,5/10 8)

Wow. I just got this piece and I must say, it is magnificent. Definitely the best Mario remix I have heard yet. I'm loving the style, the happiness it brings, and the nostalgia of old Mario games. I especially liked the short clip from Dr. Mario (I like your Megavitamin Jazz too) and the vibes, trumpets, steel drums, saxes... it's just awesomeness.
9.5/10 (ending could be improved, but otherwise amazing)

It isn't very often one comes across a perfect remix, but I believe this is one. I can think of nothing to add or take away that could possibly improve it. There's so much going on musically; I'm baffled as to how this could happen without giving Dr. Fruitcake at least three strokes, and maybe a heart attack. The inclusion of the Mario RPG opening is nothing short of delicious when put into context. Also, throughout the arrangement, the steel drums are particularly effective, both as backs and melody. Oftentimes, when they're included in a piece, the author makes them roll too often or never. "Mario's Tropical Paradise" strikes a nice balance between the two, putting emphasis on the moving lines without it becoming simply annoying. As a closing thought, I'd like to mention that some of the vibraphone riffs give me chills (in the best way possible), particularly the closing one at 4:44. Excellent. Simply excellent.

An incredible remix, really. In my incredibly tired mind, I find little substance to add to this topic, mainly, this was just an attempt to bring this review topic to the front page, where more people are likely to see it (Main OCR page and board page, both). An amazing mix, seriously, I doubt even with good rest that words would be enough to describe what the song on its own could possibly be... Do yourself a favor and download it, listen to it, then hope it will [bear/allow you to bear] [your child/it's child].

Very peppy, bright, and happy mix. I really like this, especially when the Super Mario RPG title theme comes in - I just love that game, so hearing themes from it always make me happy. AND the ending music from SMW! Such a great tune that's often overlooked, I'm glad you popped it in here. You combined some of my very favorite themes into this one ReMix. I'm not as familiar with the Mario Party music (had to look up the description to see what it was) but it's definitely not out of place here.
This is a great tropical-themed Mario piece. The Yoshi's Story theme even works here, although the piano segment right before that comes in seems a little disjointed from the rest of the piece - it's not bad, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme of the rest of the song. Thankfully you get right back to the fun stuff quickly.
There's a great full sound to this piece and the peppy beat just makes me wanna dance! Much better than the themes used in Mario Sunshine - THIS should've been the Isle Delfino theme! Very reminiscent of the Smash Bros. medley stuff too - excellent and a delight to listen to.

So, funny story (depending on who's telling it and who's listening);
I had just broken up with my girlfriend and wasn't pretty. I'm cleaning my apartment and listening to my music when she shows up to get some stuff she had over. The topic of the break up comes up again and she starts crying. The moment calms down and she stops crying, and then this song plays on my speakers, full volume.
Thank you shuffle and thank you OCRemix. The mundane is always made better with you!

In this cold weather, a tropical paradise sounds good right now. This ReMix is amazing! 7 themes over the course of 6 games and it doesn't feel rushed to just thrown together. Now, that's a mega mix if I ever heard of one. Very good island-like feel to it. Nice!
Super solid, this really hits it's stride and takes it home. The brass and sax sound awesome, and everything clicks. It's definitely on the shorter side, but the performances and style keep it interesting and fun.
The intro is great, and it just gets better from there. Nice subtle use of synths in the otherwise classic funk arrangement style. Sax solo was rocking too.
All around awesome.

I downloaded this back in the "I'm only going to listen to ReMixes from games I know" phase. A great thing about medleys like this is that it lets you know it's OK to listen to music from games you never played, especially when they're made this well. The bits I did recognise, especially the SMW credits theme, just made it extra-special.
A totally fun mix from beginning to end, it feels like it should be put to a promo video for Nintendo, or the credits for Super Smash Mario Beach Volleyball All-Stars (TBC).

Superb, everything fits together so well. The way all the themes are combined is outstanding. A must download.

This is very good. The arrangement of all the tracks is superb. From beginning to end, everything is interesting and non-repetitive. Even for me, someone who doesn't like this genre, this song still landed a high place in my playlist.

This is one hell of a medley with one hell of a tropical flair. And it's awesome too! The arrangement is fantastic, the song choice is wonderful, and the feeling is smooth. Unlike pineapples, which are spiky. :P
