Man...How Protricity make some damn good music.

This is the ultimate chill song, and there really is a lot goin on here. Not anything different from the great quality that Protricity puts out, I'm just always in awe whenever I listen to his music.

Good stuff. The first second of the song put me in the same mood as the original did.

HAHAHAHAHAH!!! While listening to the beginning of this song I saw a daffy picture of Clay Aiken and I laughed so hard. It'n not a diss of the song, though. ;) It's actually good.

I remember an older remix of this song by Protricity. It was at vgmix 1 for a short time. I think I liked that version better, but this one is still good. The synth bass is incredibly addictive, as it always is, anywhere. I love neat percussion effects in the second half of the song. I dig all the synths (very smooth analogish sounds - remind me of Omni Trio) and samples in this mix except the gimmicky bird-chirp percussion. It just doesn't do anything for me.

All in all, very nICEuh!

Now, I normally am not the biggest fan of such laid-back songs, despite my extremely laid-back lifestyle, but this remix rocks my face! 8O :D This stuff is amazing! So very peaceful... When I have a headache, I'm gonna listen to this remix. I love the general feel of the song, but I think it's the little things that get me. The "ebb and flow" feel created by the birds and soft percussion is REEEEEEALLY nice. It kinda swells in your head, then floats away gently. It's really indescribable. Well, since I sound like a moron whenever I review great music, I think I'd probably better just give you the two thumbs up and shut up!

Protricity does downtempo...and he does it damn well. Over the past few weeks this has become my favorite of all of Ari's songs. The production is really professional. The song, despite being 6 and a half minutes, never drags or repeats too much, which I think is its strongest virtue. The instruments are selected nicely to give a sort of spring/summer vibe to a song that was originally much more haunting.

This song is close to perfect, but it gets a 9/10 for being less varied melodically in the second half while the heavier drums are playing. From this point on, one of the main melodies in the song (the one starting at 1:25) is never revisited, so the song starts getting a bit more repetetive and never matches the diversity of the first half. Also, I think the heavy drum beat could be a bit lower in the mix or else have a different tone so that it isn't so overpowering.

This song, like all of Prots stuff, gets a 100/100 in my book. It's the perfect remix, that all other remixers should strive for.

HOLY CRAP. I just realized the fact that it has those one enemies (i forgot the name DAMNIT >_<) sound effects, you know those ghost things that fade out then fade in and bug you. It's in the beginning- that light rising sound then it descends again. You might've recognized it already, but dang this song brings back more memories already.

Wow... I was just listening to Protricity's Brambles in the Breeze mix that I recently found stashed away in my OCR music files and then I came on OCR and found another DKC 2 mix! Those are my two favorite songs from that game too. This mix is great, it's even more relaxing than the original :), very nature-esque (if that's a word  )

Friggin' awesome! This was one of my very favorite tracks from DKC2 (and heck, one of my favorite videogame tracks ever). I could've gone for more of the original key changes, but this is spiffy, nonetheless. :) Makes me want to dig up Mechanical Swamp and listen to that one again, too.

I agree with what Pretz was saying in that this was unique territory for Prot to tackle. I loved how the intro had the same electrosynth of the original music from DKC2, and though some people will feel that the bird chirps aren't for them, I thought they added a lots of character and enhanced the general relaxing feel of the mix. Ari did a great job of using his time to subtly lay down the source melody in the beginning and then focus on developing his own progressions alongside the "birdcussion."

I wasn't a big fan of the Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack, to be honest. While my opinion obviously flies in the face of Prot's own enjoyment of the DKC2 music and his desire to mix these tracks, I bring that up, because I feel that "Forest Birdcussion" does a great job of getting rid of the tribal/jungle drums that overpowered the original track ("Forest Interlude"), and bringing in more ambient and soundscape elements to make the music more accessible. Even in the latter half of the track, when Ari brought in a strong addition of percussion, it didn't detract from the other sounds that he had introduced beforehand. The ending featuring shimmering notes, piano, percussion hits and finally the fading bird chirps was absolutely well-done; a great, satisfying closure to the piece.

Hearing how nice this track is makes me wish I bugged Prot for it earlier, rather than just sarcastically making fun of the title! :P Great work, Ari. A true keeper and one that brings a new dimension to the DKC series mixes already available.

Great googley-Moogely! I was just playing DKC2 and wondering why no one had remixed this song yet. Easily my favourite out of the entire soundtrack(except possibly for the K.Rool Duel). I think the creativity in this piece is almost unrivaled, and the beat is astounding to listen to. Although nothing will ever beat the aural and somber atmosphere of the original work, this is really REALLY something to be proud of. Professional on so many levels. OK, I'm rambling now.

Anways, I commend thee, Protricity. Not just for this spectacular mix, but also for making so many remixes of one of the besterest soundtracks in video game history. :D

This is what a forest remix of the Haunted woods stage would sound like on a 3-D DK adventure game. That is if RARE was doing it. (Which is unlikely since they're Microsoft's property now.) Nintendo could learn a thing or two about music if they tried listening to the DKC franchise's music enough. Anyways, I dunno why Protrocity constantly makes remixes of the DKCs but he could be good enough to do music for a game company some day at the rate he's going. 10/10.

hehe, yeah it's funny when you read the posts of some people on the ineternet you'd think that their music must be some of the most amazing stuff since... ever, given their aparent expertise in the subject, and then you listen to it and find out it's a bit crap. Protricity, in contrast, (and I hope you don't get too offended by this :)) comes out with so much bullshit sometimes as to have you believe he's an idiot and then really surprises you with some of the best music at OCR. :P

I think this is my favourite of yours as well. The whole thing flows wonderfully from begining to end, unlike some earlier pieces which seem to be impatient and want to move on to something else. Production is great as well - flawless, even. The only thing that I can say against the piece is that clarinet noise near the begining. Urghh, cheap GM patch #33? Anyway, thankfully it sounds a lot better (even good) when accompanied with the rest of the instruments. Perhaps one of the toms is a bit loose near the 4:30 mark? Ok, now I'm just searching for problems.

I think I could listen to this all day actually; really great stuff. In fact I think this might be my favourite mix here. It's a real joy to listen to. :D

Edit: With subsequent listens I regret my joke about the clarinet patch. It does stand out a bit on its own but fits into the arrangement perfectly and I love the vibrato and pitch bending that's applied. I'm still not entirely keen on the drums from about 4:10 to about 4:20 though (basically where the whole kit is used). It just comes over a little too strong for me and I'd be inclined to either tame it with some EQ or reduce the length of the release of some of the drums, or possibly both.

That's it. Everyone but Proticity should be banned from remixing DKC2 themes...no.no, I'm kidding.

But the truth is, his remixes are so great, they are almost tough to beat. This one being one of them. Just a relaxing and laid-back remix, probably my favorite now. The forest theme is one of my favorite themes in DKC2 (but Bramble and swamp themes beat it!).

Now, I'm just waiting for a Kannon's Klaim remix!!!

I really should go on to say that Protricity loves the DKC2 soundtrack too much, but no. For me, the DKC2 soundtrack really epitomises game music. And Protricity expands on it in ways I couldn't imagine. Business as usual with this one, people.

Admittedly, I'm not too fond on the "birdcussion", but not to the point that it detracts from the mix, and shouldn't be too much of a niggle for anyone. I really like the piano at 2:55, that was one of the nice touches to the mix. People have also mentioned that he manages to keep it interesting for the while, and while he does, he's still missing out on the climax section of the original, which while somewhat disappointing, makes it more phenomenal that he's still made a 6 minute mix out of it. One of the main reasons that Protricity is one of the best mixers on the site - his attention to detail.

I sure hope that Protricity continues to do his thing with DKC2, if only for more mixes like this and his others.

Wow, this is good stuff. I can't help but be impressed by Protricity's use of in-game sound effects to really capture the mood of the origional. I especally liked how he incorporated the sound of the ghost-ropes that would fade in and out thought many forest levels (in the same vein as his "Mechanical Swamp" remix). As a fan of this series (and its music), I think any remix would not be complete without it. The synth calrinet was an interesting choice, as I have always envisioned a saxaphone replacing the synth line of the origional; but Proticity has made it work wonderfuly. Overall, this is a great track, which can easliy stand with the rest of his superior DK2 remixes. However I was dissapointed that he did not choose to include the great little synth solo that occured at the end of the origional.

It took me awhile to download this ReMix and I'm glad I finally did. This is such an awesome mix and my favorite by the man, Protricity. It's worth the whole 6:40. It never gets tiring; it just keeps getting better and better! Amazing work, Protricity!

Well,m this is a pretty awesome mix. Very nice and springy. Although I must say that the chirping wasn't the greatest for me, I liked hearing the 'Ghost Rope' sound more. But, still, a pretty good mix.

This is probably my favorite track from Prot also. It seems as though compared to his other DKC2 mixes there is a greater proficiency in mixing, mastering, and arranging. Also, the samples used are quite good. The new age-ish progression and execution is both relaxing and well done. The 'birdcussion' is quite catchy, and not at all grating or overly repetitive. In fact, the piece as a whole is not repetitive, though you might expect it to be because of the length.

Two thumbs up. Keep up the good work.

This is the best remix ever! It is in the top 1 ;-) You will easily recognise the original song / instruments of dk2, but greatly enhanced! I'm always jumping to this song in my winamp playlist, and i listen it twice because it is so good! It seems like it can be the Nintendo orchestrated version of the original song!

Protricity, you're on the road of perfection! Continue to create such good remixes of Dk2 and of all others DK games!

Sorry for my bad english ;-)

I suppose I'm not an integral part of this community at all... I rarely post anywhere but in ReView anymore. I post about once every so many months, at that. I'm a lurker, you see. I post when I just feel It'd be a crime not to.

That said...

This ReMix commands my attention. The first time I heard it I was blown away. I got the chills. I closed my eyes and just listened... I think I had it on replay about a dozen times. Seems like every time I'd listen to it I'd hear a little something I hadn't before, like the ghost SFX from the rope ghosts - I sadly cannot remember the exact name of the level or area offhand - or the subtle echos of the original synth around 3' or so...

Sometimes I wonder what it is about the Donkey Kong Country games and their music that is so appealing to me. Sometimes I wonder why I still feel like they were the best gaming experience I've ever had. Only a few RPGs can hold a place in my heart as close as them. What was Rare's inspiration? Where did David Wise and the other come from? Did Nintendo realize what they had, or do they even do today?

Anyway, I'm getting off track... I'm a sentimental type... :(
So here's my verdict: this is one of the top ten remixes on this site, hands down. This ReMix has become a personal favorite. After listening to this I found it hard to listen to almost all the other electronica on OCR without feeling a lack in quality... like something that I once heard is no longer there anymore. I don't know if it's fair to say this or not, but I feel like I've seen the highest mark a ReMix can currently reach, and anything in the same genre just seems so contrived in comparason.

I have to stop typing at some point, so I might as well close now before I go on for another six paragraphs. Ari, I don't know if you'll read this or not, but this is my personal thank-you to you for putting so much love into this remix. It's not just that it's a great song, and that I play it so many times on loop at a time people in the general area slowly move away ( :P ), but it's the fact that this ReMix has a certain texture and emotion to it. It not only captures the emotion and texture of the original music, but for me it sublimates into something more. It's hard to put into words...

It has beauty, it has soul, it has life all its own. It is its own microcosm. It has such a powerful mix of nostalgia and art it takes all other things off my mind. When I listen to this, I get this feeling that I am not being lied to. That is the best possible combination of words I can find right now. Not "I feel like I'm hearing the truth." Just that I'm not being lied to.

I don't know what to say. 10/10. Five stars.

Ari, with every one of your mixes I've heard, your skill continues to grow. I take comfort in the knowledge that you still love the whole experience, DK and all. You have real talent. God bless you, man.

~Adam

I'm a big fan of this mix. I loved the song to begin with and this is a delightful little journey through it's melodies and possible variations. There's something captivating about this song, I keep finding myself coming back to it.
Definately a fan of the harder drums @ 3:33... brings it so much flow. The flourishes of percussion like at 4:25 show you know what you're doing, you're not kidding around. Plus the beautiful and pro sounding piano, beautiful synth lines and realistic/appropriate sound effects.
Good job Protricity, another score.

I signed up to post on these forums just to share my opinions on this song. I've not heard a better remixed song on this site and the musical complexity of it blows me away. I've proabbly listened to this song about thirty times now, and every time I listen it only gets better. The quality of this music rivals much professional stuff outside of the video game world. The remix is rich with perfectly scored melodies, and the samples are all right-on. The bird-chirping even adds to the beautiful, ethereal spring feel. The early drums are perfect...I don't know what else to say. The song amazes me as I hear all the things in the background that I haven;t heard before. All the piano runs in the background are nice, and the synth bass is perfect for the occasion. Ok, enough of my rambling...but this is my favorite remix of all.

In keeping with the general concensus, while I'm loving every one of Protricity's DKC mixes, this has got to be my favorite. I recently took a cross country drive, and don't know *how* many times I played it going through the Colorado Rockies. The song just seemed to fit the whole atmosphere-- trees, birds, sunshine. Definitely a relaxed, laid back tune with a floaty, peaceful rhythm you can get lost in.

Protricity is just great with downtempo/chillout. And this remix probably surpasses his Brambles in the Breeze in terms of quality. All the instruments sound in clear as mud. The drum improvisation around 4:40 is worth noting.

Heh, seems Protricity wanted to put vocals in this mix. I can see how they would be... uh... "out of place", but I'm looking forward to a vocal mix by Protricty sometime down the road.

Anyway, yeah, this is a very relaxing, high-quality remix. One of my favorites so far.

I just picked up DKC2 for GBA and I'm reliving my 6 year old days of youth where I could never get past one level. So I finally get past it, do my little victory dance and push "A" to go to the next level and what do I find? I stand up, run over to my friend yelling, "OMG ITS THAT SONG BY PROTRICITY!!! DAMN!" I was very excited. Thank you Prot, for bringing back fond memories of my youth, and...my present as well!

Didn't Protricity cover this track before? He did something called "Enter the Cryptic Wood". I have no biased opinion as to which is better so, I conclude they're both awesome.

"Entering the Cryptic Woods" (circa August 2002) was never released. Interestingly, the light tribal percussive effect that forms the bulk of his Cryptic Woods rendition can be heard in Forest Bircussion faintly echoing in places like 1:22-1:23, 1:45, etc.

The sounds are great. The atmosphere it creates is very relaxing, and the sound is altogether cohesive. Now, I'm a newbie here and I'm still not too sure what's going on with the technical jargon I hear, but whatever happens with the panning and synths and pads and [insert terms here] is beyond me. All that I can say is it sounds great; but I have one minor gripe. The fact that the er... The warpy sound in the beginning. You know. The fact that one of its repititions is cut off irks me big time. For me, it creates something of a void in an otherwise very full, rich, alive piece. I'm always expecting it to go -once- more, but it doesn't. Good work, aside the fact.

To be honest, I just discovered this remix today. One thing that I want to congratulate you on, Protricity, is the fact how you actually took a stab at making an arrangement in 12/8 time signature. That alone is kudos enough, but the fact that you've put forth great quality and kicked us in the face with down-tempo makes this song even better. I would've liked to hear more source melodies used in the second half of the song, but for what it's worth this song is fantastic.

I really enjoy this song, I can't help but find myself whistling along to it in the car no matter how many times Ive heard it. Its so very chill and relaxing but with a good catchy beat. I wish more songs had this level of quality to them. Even the bird chirping which in any other song would be annoying is great here.

Damn, this is one laid back, sexy song. Oh god, i can't beleive i just said that, hahaha:tomatoface:

But seriously, it's a beautiful piece done by Proticity here. Clever using the 'bircussion' through the entire track

I don't want to promote tall-poppyism, but Protricity is the Jesus Christ of videogame mixes. In my opinion of course. He's had his crucifixion, his resurrection in recent years, and most importantly, some truly divine DKC2 mixes. In fact, if Jesus had played Diddy's Kong Quest, I'm not even sure he would have been able to make better mixes than Ari.

Anyway, enough of the comparisons to the Son of God, I'm sure I'm offending a throng of people. Simply, this mix is a gift. It's the highest level of quality. The perfect remix. Of course, it could be because of a bias I have towards my love of DKC2, but I think it trancends that. It's scary good.
By the way, I'm an advocate of the birdcussion. I can't really explain why, but it's one of the most effective, well pulled off musical gimmicks I've ever heard. Freaking hell, I love this mix. And thus, it would be unhealthy for me to continue on like this...

What can I say? This is my favorite rendition of my favorite video game song ever... it's soooo chill, which stays in line with the original feel of the source, but expands on it in a number of ways with a beautiful piano accompaniment, nice synth choices, and of course... BIRDCUSSION!

Seriously, I could rave on and on about this song til I pass out from exhaustion, but instead I'll save you all the trouble and just say it right out - GET THIS SONG! Tunes like this are why I'm such a Protricity fanboy! :-P

I love how you mixed in the sound effects of the ghostly ropes at the beginning of the Track. You can barely hear them, but they're there.

Awesome interpretation, thank you for this masterpiece.

Who is... Jesus?

Carpenter-looking dude who died for people's sins (supposedly). :-P Anywho, I love this mix for it's simpleness and the main event, Birdcussion! This was the first mix I added when I got here and it's so peaceful and relaxing. Good switch of gears, Prot!

Pretty good, I like the massive percussive reverb near the end. It's very relaxing. 8-)

I agree with several people who have posted already on this song. You can't not listen to it. You also can't stop listening to it, or fail to take notice of it when it does play :D

The first time I listened to the song the pauses in the melody nearly drove me crazy, but then I couldn't stop repushing the play button on the song again and again. :D

Awesome work. Pure and simple. :)

This is...idk man. Annoyingly good? It's like a mix of a bad song and Kingdom Hearts to me...which is the good part xD I like the birds in the background and yeah it definitely has that spring feel. Not really sure what to say though...uh...good job? Bad job? It's a mix of in between for me.

You know what...strike that last comment I made. It is annoyingly good in the best way haha. I listened a second time and now I have to download it. It's very chill and can actually somewhat be romantic. It'll clear your head and calm you down and get you motivated all at the same time. So scratch the last comment. I typed too soon. smh.

This is actually probably one of my favorite tracks on the site. It's sort of a redux of the original, which is hard to pull off when you're doing a David Wise piece. Very relaxing, very chill. I enjoy it thoroughly :nicework:

This is a nice mellow track, one that I've always loved. Also love the usage of "birdcussion". XD

Great job on this mix! I like the way its laid back, but at the same time hasn't lost the haunting quality of the source.
