Super Metroid: Reserve Tank ~ VARIAtions ~
A Get-Well-Soon Community Album for bLiNd (http://www.ocremix.org/remixer/blind/)
————————————————————
http://reservetank.darkesword.com/

ReMixer bLiNd was pretty sick. We wanted him to feel better, so we did a remix album of his favorite game, Super Metroid. Veterans and newbies alike participated. I think it was a great success.

Please don't post this to digg or slashdot or anything like that. It's not meant to be a big OCR Project release. It's a small project just for the community; also, I don't want to have to pay extra for bandwidth/hosting issues. The quality of the tracks also covers a broad spectrum; like I said, veterans and newbies alike participated, and it shows—though I think everyone here will enjoy the music regardless.

I could still use some help for mirrors. If you can help out with that, please get all of the files and upload them to your webspace and provide me with a URL. It's very easy for StarZander to add a mirror, so the more the better.

Also for the artists who didn't provide a write-up: if you still want to, we can add that in. Just PM me.

Before anyone asks, no, there isn't a torrent, and there are no lossless versions of the tracks.

Enjoy.

I heartily agree with Jade, in this regard. :D

Listening to some of the music right now while I download the rest. Its astonishing, really. It may not be an official OC ReMix album, but its right up there with the good ones. W00t!

I agree with the notion against digging this album, etc.

However, I think it would be really neat if, in maybe a year's time, someone spilled the beans. And then the whole internet shits bricks. "They did what??" And it would spark the same excitement that we're feeling today.

Heh, that's precisely what I thought, and was about to make a comment to that effect, but ... the main purpose of this album was for bLiNd to get better w/it, correct? So... I dunno.

It doesn't have zyko's track, which is partly my fault, because the tracklist I posted didn't have zyko's track. :(

1) Thank you, DarkeSword, for hosting. But wouldn't it have been wiser to create a torrent and/or a zipped version of all of the songs together to save bandwidth?

2) I'm skipping to random tracks, and from what I've heard... this is better than Relics of the Chozo. There, I said it.

Well - I don't know if I'd say that. I still think RotC has a lot of charm and is really cohesive with prot's edits (and it did have some REALLY good tracks on it). A lot of it's a matter of taste since RotC went for a very different, more atmospheric kind of style.

But I really did enjoy a number of these! BGC's track, Jose's track, zykO's track, and bLiNd's bonus track are my personal favorites. Considering how short the notice was, this project wound up being pretty impressive! You've got to keep in mind how quickly and efficiently this was done when you're listening to it (despite the release date). I'm glad I could finally get some new metroid material to listen to!

Yay! Thanks for hosting this. The website looks nice and slick.

I'm also quite surprised that you use that as cover art instead of Wingless' (but I'm not complaining) :3

Wow, given the time limit, many of the tracks on here sound better than a lot of songs you hear on standard projects. I'm very impressed by all of this, but I guess when the cause is worth it, it's much easier to put together something this great in such little time. Bravo!

It's great to hear you're doing as well as you are, Blind - my dad is suffering from the same thing and I can only hope he recovers as fast as you did. Best of luck to you!

I gotta say, The Wingless' track is probably my favorite on here. I thought he was bragging earlier about having 2 tracks on the album, though - am I creating false memories, or what? I wish there were 2 Wingless tracks on the album!

And, of course, it's great to hear more from Blind himself, too - stellar as always!

I have to admit, I am rather biased - I can't stand Children of the Monkey Machine's "music", since it sounds more like background static than anything remotely resembling a medley. And Protricity's hand in everything meant that there was less variety on the whole (though, admittedly, I <3 Bound Together, which throws "genre" out the window and is basically the polar opposite idea).

So yes, I'm loving the variety here. Energy Recharge and In Your Prime are my favorites thus far, as I'm listening in order.

Ok, all these posts are funny from my point of view since I'm working on a paper about the lack of "climax or release" in two novels... it's a bit more complex than that, but lets just put it this way, all the posts in this thread now have a weird double meaning.

Well, dang. I was just about to suggest using DownThemAll! (http://www.downthemall.net/) But since multiple copies of each MP3 are linked, it would want to download all those duplicates too.

Still, rather than dealing with 30 separate "Save As..." dialogs, you can still use something like DownThemAll! to select each link & save them all to the same location at once.

at that point you may as well hold ALT and left click all of them (which is what I did)

A zip file might in the end serve to save some bandwidth. An MP3 is already compressed but I imagine there's potential for a little more compression, + if a person just takes a listen to each of them without actually downloading them... and then decides later to download them... er well I think I'm getting overly anal about bandwidth lol.

Heh. Thanks for the zip mirror. :)

My point about digg and slashdot is less about bandwidth and more that I don't want non-OCR people listening to the tracks by the newbies that contributed to the project and basically just saying "there are a lot of shitty tracks on this album ocr sux." They're not shitty tracks, but there are some on this album that you can tell the artist is still new to the craft. The point of this project was never to create a super-awesome-end-all-Super-Metroid-remix-bonanza. It's a well-wishing album from our community where the sentiment counts more than anything else. I don't want to take that away from everyone who tried their best by subjecting them to the criticisms of assholes who simply would not get the point.

Thank you so much! Actually.. I have my own website that has all my tracks.
old and new alike.

With vgmix "down", I don't really post much stuff - and Recently my onboard sound card has literally like exploded or something, i get terrible hissing noises on one ear randomly while trying to mix and its just very difficult, but i think ill be getting a new soundcard for christmas :)

http://kwix.shackspace.com <-- website

Also, Unknown Origin is part of my first album which is available completely for free on my website. A lot of it is original work - and its the first time i've attempted anything like that.

I would really like to submit more to OCR, But i always feel that my stuff will not be accepted, so i tend to not really bother with it, but for what its worth, it makes me really happy to see someone digging on one of my newer tracks.

Hey, I'm new to the forums but I've been listening to OCR for years now, and I have to say I'm absolutely thrilled with this new album. One week and every track on there is down right awesome, and being a diehard Metroid fan and audiophile I can be rather choosy about the remixes I listen to.

So yeah, I signed up to let you guys know that your work is amazing, and the fact that you made this album for bLiNd when he was sick makes it even better. Seriously, keep up the good work. Happy Holidays!

So...

What did you guys think of my mix? :|

I'm just finding out about this album after checking out the latest posted remixes by chance.

But damn, your Heat Vision mix is some great stuff. Funky, catchy, love the piano in there.

And DrumUltima's Lonely Petals is probably one of the best renditions of "Red Soil, Swampy Area" part of Brinstar that I've ever heard. I can't get enough remixes of that song, and I almost wish that the section you got to hear it in was longer.

I'm not much of an audiophile like many of yall, so I can't really tell you what much except of what I like. But I really enjoyed the majority of this album. :)

P.S. Good to hear the reason for the album is okay!

Definitely recommended, even though there's more "Brinstar Red Soil Swampy Area" mixes on this album than I'd ever thought could exist, this is a great album. I have to give a shout out to "Edenal" for delivering the goods piano style, not that "Heat Vision" wasn't great as well (particularly thought it was an interesting intro track since it's a non traditional song to mix, but one of my favorites sources from the game, for sure).
