Absolutely stunning work here, Dan. I had no idea orchestrals could be blended so perfectly with techno. This one definitely goes in my "Favorites" playlist!

The opening almost reminds me of a song from Princess Mononoke...I can't remember the exact title, though. "Couple in the Forest?" Something like that. ^^;; The gradual build-up of instruments...it made it sound very professional.

This mix took a great song and made it even better - parts are soaring, heroic and majestic, while others remind you of sneaking around Hyrule Castle and slaying the soldiers in order to reach Princess Zelda...it very much captures the soul of the game, in my opinion. ^^

Keep up the wonderful work!

You know, I was going to put that...but no, you beat me. Commendable. Anyway, this is a truly great mix. Incredible work, keeps up my interest. It's unique, my favorite Zelda mix so far.

As soon as all the mixes for tonight are posted, i'm making a CD of the songs for all my friends...and sleeping. Been a hell of a day.

Holy Crappity Cow. 8O This is JUST what I've been looking for. I loved the Hyrule Castle music...and the orchestral at 3:30 and 3:45 blew me away. Freakin incredible.

The second I realized what I was listening to, I had to rush to create an account. This remix represents why LttP is my favorite game of all time. I can't find a single flaw in it. Brilliant the whole way through. My favorite remix by MILES. Bravo, Dan.

whoa... probably the best remix i've heard in a long long time. i can't find any faults, nor do i want to. Just christ, the mix between orchestra and techno, and how perfectly everythings blended.

This remix is just smooth, and yet another remixer's who's talent i must suck from their brain. @.@;; wow...

This mix is simply amazing, feels like something that would come from a movie soundtrack (Zelda movie = gasm). Very polished and high quality, this is the best Zelda remix I've heard in a long, long time. I love songs that build and evolve over time, Dan made this song so diverse it nearly plays out a plot in my mind!

0-1 Minutes - Link spies the entrance to a dungeoun, looks suspicious, but if he wants to free that sage...
1-2 Minutes - He's got to go in, with his master sword flying several weaker enemies are sliced in half/blown up/shot full of arrows.
2-3 Minutes - Stalfos rush! One skelton attacks from dead ahead, but Link's Hylian shield blocks the blow, but while straining to keep the weight of this enemy's blade back... at 2:15 a second Stalfos charges from his unguarded left! Backflip into a sword-triwl! The sneak attacking stalfos is dealt with, and with a few more sword slashes so is the original...
3-4 Minutes - On an adrenaline high, Link explores the next room of the dungeon, just walking around happily until... (you can easily make this part out if you listen) Link falls off a ledge at 3:20! But grasps the side just in time, peering down into the abyss he spies something down below... another ledge with the boss key!
4-5 Minutes - A quick leap down, and a decorated treasure chest opened, Link dashes to the boss room, running his sword through lesser enemies, slaying a Moblin before finally coming to that gold lock... at 4:45 you can just make out a door close scene with a sneaky boss like Gohma in OoT crawling around on the walls, just waiting...
5-6 Minutes - The boss shows himself, and Link attacks him several times around the legs... nothing, a sword -twirl to the chest and he's laughing in Link's face. The boss backhands Link back into the dirt, and stomps on him while he's down, at 5:50 the music is so high strung I can almost make out the familar warning beep when you're running on one heart.
6-6:45 Minutes - Link reaches into his pocket and pulls out a red potion, quickly takes a gulp of it, and dashes out of the way just in time to miss a sword blow that would've cleaved him in half... and its then the boss's weakness is revealed! While the sword is stuck in the ground his eye starts glowing green, he pulls out his bow and arrow and fires a shot off! The boss is pissed now, but so enraged he misses Link again, and another arrow flies into his eye, and another as Link runs circles around him threading one arrow after another into his bowstring until the boss falls to one knee, panting heavily... and is soon finished off by a master sword decapitation.
6:45-End - Link gains his medallion, freeing the sage of this dungeon, and makes his way out, just another day in the life of the Hero of Time.

This remix is some of the best work I've heard in ages. It's the kind of remix that makes me ashamed of the stuff I make, because this is simply an outstanding remix. Is this what can be classified as an eargasm?
Great work, DiscoDan! Hoping to hear more from you in not too long.

Completely amazing...
This is definately what I've been waiting for in a remix all of my life spent here on www.ocremix.org.
At first I thought it was on of them boring, slow, not-exciting, remixes, until that great beat came in! Excelent, a great orchestrated/techno remix of the ever-catchy dark world theme. My prayers have been answered!!!
Thank you for making this wonderful piece of work, hope theres more where that came from!

Wow, I never even saw the castle song as remxing material, and now Disco Dan has taken it and made it so awesome it hurts. Those unbelievably dramatic string bursts are by far the best part. But without the things in-between, the giant swells wouldn't really be giant swells now would they? Put simply, this is an amazing piece of music. Fucking nice work.

Hmmm... the description says the remix is 7'22" long, but mine goes for 11:10. Is it the same for everyone else?

Yeah, same here. This isn't the first mix that I've had a problem with. "Purple Heart" (Rush'n Attack) had the same problem. The mix does go on for 11:10, but only if you hit the 'Seek' bar on the player. Otherwise it just goes until 7:22, then it just resets back to the beginning. There's some sort of value in the properties of the file that is causing the problem. We should E-Mail DJP and ask him to fix the file on his end. Or ask Disco Dan himself to fix the thing and send it back to DJP to put up.

(By the way, for any mix on this site, if you see on the download button that it says "unavailable" for the track length and "0kbps" for the bit rate, it probably has this problem.)

EDIT: I managed to fix the problem myself. I just used All Editor, selected the song (it displays correctly in the program), and saved the selection to a new file. Problem solved. Still, DJP should put up a fixed version.

i like the dark world rendition a lot. i find it hard though having to listen to someone leaving out the minor/major key changes in the light world theme...reminds me of myself trying to figure out the melody some years ago when i wasnt into chords at all ;) of course i know that its intentional, im just not able to like it :P

I believe this is a remix of Hyrule Castle and not the Darkworld Theme. At first I was like hmmm a nice orchestral rendition of hyrule castle. Then when those drums came in I knew it was going to kick my ass. I love how the mix builds up and then just bursts. Awesome remix.

Wow! This is an awesome remix of one of my favorite songs of Zelda 3. I love the thrill Disco Dan added in the remix. The part when you enter the castle with the master sword in hand to face the wizard was easily one of my greatest moments.. especially because of this song wich added a lot of intensity to the experience! Thumbs up to this awesome remix.

This ReMix has to be one of the, if not the best on the site. If your a fan of the old school zelda then you NEED to download this remix. The perfect blend of sounds and sensations that came along with the game are included ten fold in this mix. To make a long story short; There be somethin' wrong wit yer head if ye do not download this mix.

This is a very nice mix, I enjoy it a lot. I think the drums 'n bass could come down during some parts, though. I mean, geeze, the loop goes on forever and it doesn't dip in volume at all, even during the parts when the orchestra is playing soft. Great mix, though. It kicks McVaffe's new Zelda mix's ass! ;)

I came to this board to add to the praise actually, since I haven't heard from DD in awhile and this remix was very well done and kicks ass. But I will go on to say that comments like the last line, while rather rare, are what made me shy away from the community and remixing in general to some extent. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, but simply reiterate that some quick comments do a lot more harm than good.

But back to the point... Awesome remix. DD continues to make great stuff, it's good to have him back around.

In my opinion, both remixes are fantastic in their separate ways. Why must we always draw contrasts and compare two completely different mixes? Personally, I prefer McVaffe's piece, but again, that's my opinion.

In my opinion, both remixes are fantastic in their separate ways. Why must we always draw contrasts and compare two completely different mixes? Personally, I prefer McVaffe's piece, but again, that's my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly. They are two distinctly different remixes, by two different remixers with two different styles, and just because they are from the same game does not mean they have to compete. DD and McV (I smell a sitcom...) are both great remixers. Actually, I don't think "great" does them justice. They respectively maintain a firm foothold in my 5 favorite songs. I remember being blown away by Braving Tal Tal Heights, and I remember several mixes by McVaffe making my jaw drop. So, they're both great. Can't we agree to that? Godly as they may seem, there are people behind these names, that put a hell of a lot of effort into doing this. Between the two of them, they have 57 remixes. I think that demands some respect.

Anyhow, with the rant aside, I'll move on to my review. I've read all the way through this thread, and listened to the song 5 times now... and I'm not feeling anything. I can hear the blending, and I can hear the seamless transistions, but the song just isn't working for me. I can't really place what it is, though. Maybe the style just doesn't resonate well with me, but I have to shrug with this one. I guess it's just me, though, since it seems like most of the rest of the community is already erecting a shrine to Majeure.

I'll also just put out there that I personally prefer McVaffe's "The Darkness and the Light." I listened to it once, and kind of phased out, and said, wait a minute, let me listen to that again. So I did. And then I liked it. So I listened to it 19 more times. Probably one of my all-time OCR favorites already. But it's all about personal appeal. It doesn't "Kick DD's mix's ass." This is a community, not a colleseum.

So, in review:
Disco Dan= Excellent
McVaffe= Excellent

Triforce Majeure= Good song
The Darkness and the Light= Doesn't matter, since it's not a contest

That is all.

This is an excellent mix. The orchestral stuff is top-notch, that beautifully goopy synth lead... When it dips out for a while I knew it'd return with some amount of oomph but holy shit when those emphatic strings come back in at 4:14, I shivered. Powerful stuff.

Great work, Disco Dan. I don't much feel like writing up a laundry list of its merits, so I'll just skip to the end and say that this is a great take on a great theme. I still can't believe we got this and McVaffe's new piece of awesomeness on the same day! This has got to be the all-time best update for Zelda fans.

For some reason this song registers as being 15:28 long on my winamp list. (I know DJP stated in his revie wof it how long it was... But I could still hope)

This greatly sadden me when it turned out, it wasn't anywhere near that long. I love this song.

I'm afraid this mix is a bit too rich for my little brain.
The orchestral parts are f******g excellent! Perfect sounds (especially the strings)
But my favorite part is that daftpunk-like flanged (or whatever) synth @2:15 & @6:00.

The double bass with the drums reminds me of "Art of Noise".
Thanks again, D.D.

Well, unfortunately I never had the privelage of being able to play this game, so I can't really judge how well this remix fits in with the original--but I'll be darned if this incredible mix doesn't make me want to play the game. The orchestral bit just rocks and picks up at several key places, then drops right off again with a continuous beat. It's incredibly well-crafted, overall. Unlike the Halo remixes, I don't have anything to compare this with, but if the music in the original game is even REMOTELY as cool as this is, that fact alone would justify buying it. Very cool piece.

Unfortunate, and certainly understandable. Both songs are stellar in their own respects, and I don't see why such a crude remark needed to be made, even if it was in jest.

...Well, I was going to say...if we get nine fantastic remixes every time we have a design change - by all means, go ahead and remake the site whenever you feel like it, DJP! As long as I can still download the mixes, I'm fine.

Hot! Extremely satisfying to Zelda fans! And Zelda is my favorite game series.. ever. There is no denying it, you have justified the Zelda spirit tenfold. These Zelda updates have not only made me register, but have made me extremely irritated that the new Zelda game isn't coming out until next year! I have deep longing for my favorite Hyrulian. Eh, my only Hyrulian come to think of it. Hahah, getting sidetracked. Absolutely fabulous! You're my idol, ;-). You get the score infinity/infinity.

I was laying on my bed the other day, just doing some homework, when this song started playing. I just sat there, and i seriously almost started crying. This is possible the greatest remix i've ever heard. Right at the 2:00 mark when it starts in with that synth, and then around 2:19 that next part comes in, then :29!!! I didn't think music could sound soo perfect. Disco Dan has taken a theme from the game that, i must say, wasn't my favorite, and turned it into something amazing, beautiful, incredible. My sincere thanks to you for creating such an amazing remix. Hope to hear more from you soon! Great Job again Disco Dan!

This is INCREDIBLE.

I love the power and emotion of this piece, it takes me back to when Zelda 3 was the latest Zelda game to be released - I loved it SO much, I was totally obsessed by it's majesty.

Goodness me...

I've always loved the combination of modern music (I stray from using the term "techno", as not all electronic music is necessarily "techno") with orchestral instruments, but as I've said before, it's not easy to pull off without making it sound like someone just threw a beat over an orchestral piece.

Well, obviously this is an example of the modern/orchestral mix done right. Everything about this song hits where it should hit. "Epic" is a good way to describe it. "Incredible" is even better. My only complaint is that at times the rhythm that plays through most of the song is a little too loud and overtakes the rest of the music, but I figure this was done on purpose to allude to the orchestral explosion at 4:14. That point would've been a good spot to end the song, but no, Disco Dan goes on to prove his mastery of this track by adding another 3 minutes and 8 seconds of total awesomeness.

Impassioned Havoc

Upon giving this mix a second chance, I'm going to rescind my previous comment about this piece, and give it a thumbs up. The beat is a little hard on my ears, and muffles the rest of the track a bit, but otherwise, this is a really well done mix. Clear vision and clean execution. Also, the blending of genres is almost seamless. Well done.

I've enjoyed the fruits of Disco Dan's other work but this takes the cake. I'd always liked the original Hyrule Castle theme but this adds a cool new spin.. begins cautiously and builds nicely to a lively energetic pace that in my mind goes well with me imagining Link creeping through the castle with Zelda avoiding the guards, then the big crescendo at 4:14, wah! Compliments to Disco Dan, keep up the good work mate.

Oops, my bad, the comp was messed up. It's only a little over 7 mins. Still really long though. I agree with The Tempest, the beginning sounds more like TWW's Hyrule Castle. Or like a forest in TWW. Then after the first minute it becomes the awesome Hyrule Castle remix I'd always hoped for. Wish I could remix this well. :)

Excellent. Disco Dan takes a stealthy theme and transforms it into a piece with great urgency and high drama. With each chord, I can see Link slashing through another enemy in Hyrule Castle, braving dangers new to his not-yet-adventurer's soul. :D Just CHOCK-FULL of awesome goodness.

Anyway, I've always loved the mixture of Techno and Orchestral. This song definately rivals some of Star Salzman and Scott Peeples mixing. Both of which I'm huge fans of. It's great to see that people are still creating more of the mix I like. techno and orchestral together. Techestral? =/

Disco Dan...you have no idea how many whole-hearted Zelda fans completely love you right now. Triforce Majeure, while not the best Zelda ReMix, is definitely on the Top 5 list after the first listen. And that says a lot. My one gripe, which isn't even that bad, is that the song could have ended at about 7:46. But because of the extra few minutes, it's not really playlist material. I mean, I put it on my favorite's list regarldess, just because it's that damn good, but big 11:10 songs usually don't get along well with the other kids..er, mixes, and like to steal all the attention. However, even though it does keep going, I like the way it does just build suspense and has the climactic orchestra hits yet again, just for the people saying, "Just one more time, please!?". If it weren't for the length, it'd be a 10/10. But since you did manage to make the song rise yet again and then die down the same way, just minutes later, I'll give you a 9/10. Friggin brilliant.

Maybe you need to amend it to 10/10, I think the timing is just screwed (in my playlist window it says 15:45) but the actual track length I'm sure is only 7:19 (unless this varies or something strange).

I love how the drums are so painfully repetitive, but it's still awesome. It's like it needs to repeat that much. That's a good thing, if you were wondering.

Excellent ReMix.

Edit: The reason some of you (including me) are getting the song to be 11 minutes long is that it's iencoded in VBR (Varying Bit Rate). That messes with some media players.

Man, this remix blew my mind when I heard it. I had just rediscovered OC Remix and this was one of the first songs I listened to. It convinced me to get an account and start reveiwing. The ochestratal parts of this song are so awesome. Evertone has to download it just to hear its awesomeness.

There's just one thing I want to say. I just recently re-beat LoZ: The Wind Waker and this song was in that game right after you beat the final boss. Is this song also in Zelda 3 or was it just a mistake. I'm just curious. This song is so great that it doesn't even really matter anyway.

Many people have described this arrangment as, 'Epic'; and I can't disagree. It is definitely that. This mix starts out good and ends great.

As for persons who were comparying this arrangment to Mcvaffe's at the first or middle of this thread...well I really did enjoy them equally despite wether or not people think that is possible.

The Darkness and the light had a much different feel to it. It had some incredible piano solos/sections in the which were so incredible I actually had to close my eyes. They are definitely different and they are definitely both incredible.

Disco Dan, how do you do it?

yup, it was originally in zelda 3. It was the theme for hyrule castle–they brought it back in WW because you were in hyrule castle for the last part of the game–it was just all underwater and weird.

anyway, this is a great remix. Good samples, a catchy base rhythm and huge orchestra swells... I'm humming it all day after listening to it once.

this song is terriffic, i reccomend it to everyone...

ok that aside for the song's page here's my reply to the previous post. this song is indeed in zelda 3 and the windwaker, the original being Zelda 3. it is a mix of the castle theme. This song is indeed used and heavily modified for windwaker. if you'll notice the theme from the Hyrule (sp?) castle in windwaker, the main theme from the Zelda 3 song is in it. the song's just a LOT diffrent. i haven't had the pleasure of beating WindWaker as i rented it and had to take it back just as i approched the last dungeon. so i'm not sure about the version at the end :D

Hey I felt really compelled to rate this song since its so unique.

Its like some sorta orchestral techno, and its like my new favorite song even though the Megaman series is my favorite series.

I may be paranoid, but at first I thought it was a Megaman song (like that one song in MMX3...) but I'm just paranoid, cuz I heard people killing Peco Pecos and dropping chipped gems while I was outside O_O

It reminds me of progressive rock, I don't know exactly why, that's a feeling I have.
This song would perfectly suit the next Zelda (GameCube), it symbolizes the word "EPIC" !

It skips for me too, but there is nothing wrong with the song. It's just that a bunch of you are idiot and probably have it in a large play list. Try playing the song in a smaller play list and also try closing a few programs. It's a fairly large song too with lots of variation. You might not have a good enough computer to play it on. And all you Mac users. DON'T BOTHER!!! Mac's suck and wont be able to properly run the internet anyway, let alone try and play music. I know! Because I am on a Mac right now.. Stupid public school computers. I'll listen to it at home.

For some reason, when I listen to the song, it says the play-length is only 6-7 minutes, like it should be, but when I actually play it in RealPlayer or WMP, it plays for about 6-7 minutes before fading out... but the timer shows that it lasts for about 11:00 minutes, and if I click on the little bar that shows how far along it is, it'll start playing in the middle of the song and continue until 11:00 minutes are up... weird...

Absolutely Incredible! I've always loved this song, ever since i got it. and one day at my friends, he turned this song on and said it was his favorite, and I hadn't said anything about it to him....So it's obvious how incredibly great this remix is. The Orchestration keeps the exact same feel, in a good way, as the last song, but also adds a new, powerful energy to it. I can't imagine the day I'd ever me as good at remixing a song so perfect as this one.

Yeah, when I'm playing this song on my PDA, it says it's 11 minutes long, but it stops after 6-something (whenever the song really ends). One of the tags must have been entered wrong or something.

I believe a special type of MP3 encoding was used. Notice how the song is over 6 minutes, but it sounds AMAZING despite the fact that it's under 6MB and encoded at less than 100kbps? I don't know for sure what Disco Dan did, but whatever it was, it sounds great, and I'll bet that the algorithm is what's giving certain players some trouble with the song.

That's called an homage (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00814/).

Wrong in both cases; "Force Majeure" is a legal term, in French, for "act of god". In this case, whoever 409 are simply used the exact phrase - not very creative, but fine by me. I didn't know of their track when I suggested the name to Dan, but they hardly have ownership over using it for music, as I'd imagine it's been done before by someone. The translation is something like "Majestic Force" or "Greater Force", so my idea was to simply to make it "Triforce" instead, as the song itself is rather majestic, and certainly great. The legal concept of Force Majeure is described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_majeure.

This is a well-done mix of Hyrule Castle, a song I really liked from back in the day .. The instrumtation is excellent, combining orchestra and techno, but not clashing styles at all. I didn't like how it faded back to just the rythm section around 3:00 and didn't really come back until 4:15. Is that a Casio Keyboard preset beat at 5:00? LOL, That's great, didn't see that coming! I really would have liked the brief Shakuhachi melody from the original to be included here with a similarly unique instrument instead of having that melody in saw waves and synth strings, that part really gave Hyrule Castle character. I really didn't like the fade-out, either.

If the style would stick to 1:45 to 3:00 and 4:15 onward, this would be in my primary playlist.

Good work.

WOW, can someone say intense?! I'm more of a sucker for the slower, softer remixes on OCR, but this one is just too good to ignore. I don't know if it's the perfect blend of hardcore techno, rock, and orchestra, or the fact that even though it clocks in at over seven minutes, it never gets old. Truly an exceptional piece.

^ I agree, intense, and you nevire tire of it, though it's 7 min+ long! I like to call it an orchestral piece with a trance-like twist. First, it fades in and you know right away it's the dungeon theme and then the drums come in and it just builds, completely drawing you in and then that prevailing suspense sends you on a quest at...wherever you interpret it to be. Then it rounds off perfectly fading away, love that!!! Keep it up, Disco Dan!

Great song, I've heard some really amazing renditions of other great songs ( More than enough from One-Winged Angel, believe me ) and yet I've never heard an independently remixed song to be so true to not just the song, but the series from which it came. I can clearly Imagine some parts of the song in ALttP,OoT, and TP (the new one, Twilight Princess) Especially TP, because the song in general has always been dark, and TP really compliments it, I think. A true OCR opus the likes of which we haven't seen since. The level of polish and ingenuity that accompanies the deceptive simplicity of the concept is second to none. This is a mix that is going to stay timeless and as powerful as it was the day it was released, simply because it covers absolutely everything in terms of quality.
In the past, Disco Dan has consistently proven that he has the chops to combine the sensibilities of both orchestral and modern genres, but this is where everything truly aligned and hit the sweet spot. The two styles of music, coupled with the right creative approach, the right expertise and the right source, all combined to spark a rare bit of magic.
One of the big champions of videogame remixing lore. It's as ear-pleasing as it is significant. Perfect.

Hyrule Castle is in my opinion the best track on the the Link to the Past game and I'm proud to say that you can add me to the list of people who have been caught daydreaming and being woken up by the epicness at 2:40. There aren't a whole lot of songs that I can listen to for over seven minutes before I'm pacing back and forth and cheating by fast-forwarding, but this is one of those that make me sit still and smile. Disco Dan (great name BTW) delivers on this one. Sweet work!

Takes the best of both worlds or electronic and orchestral and mixes them with panache. The arrangement isn't rushed, and the beat is hot. Take notes, guys, this is a master at work. Like some of the other top-tier remixes on the site, the only way to make something like this better would be to have it performed live.

Astoundingly good.
